MYP OBJECTIVES
This project is part of unit 1 and it is aligned with the Middle Years Programme
objetives.
Objective B: Comprehending written and visual text (research)
 Identify basic facts, messages, main ideas and supporting details in source texts.
 Recognise details about an ancient culture kids.
 Use relevant information from source texts, including photographs.
Objective C: Communication in response to oral and /or visual text
 Communicate with a sense of audience and respond appropriately to simple
questions.
 Exchange ideas and phrases to communicate ideas, feelings and
information on a variety of aspects related to ancient cultures.
Objective D: Use of Language
 write using a basic range of vocabulary related to ancient culture kids.
 write using grammatical structures such as past tense, time sequence
connectors.

Team Roles and responsibilities
Student 1 / The information collector: He is in charge of reading and collecting
information, visiting websites to obtain valuable information to include in your
project.
Student 2 / The summarizer: His responsibility is to synthesize ideas and put them
down on paper. He is also in charge of jotting down ideas on this booklet.
Student 3 / Team manager: He is in charge of sorting out time and resources. His
role is to organise the team, check that things are done on time and note down the
online resources used. He will monitor the team´s work by using a checklist.
JOTTER
Once you have selected the target culture, carry out an online research to find
information about it. Extract information from at least two sources. Websites such
as Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers or similar, will not be accepted as sources. Then,
answer the following questions with the information you obtain. Do not forget to jot
down your sources at the end.

VIDEO CAPSULE INSTRUCTIONS
Once you have collected the information you need, you will have to prepare a
video capsule of no more than 3 minutes, where you impersonate a child belonging
to the culture you picked. From his perspective, you will have to explain what is life
like for a person from that culture. Use props to enhance your performance.
You can use the following phrases to start your video:
• Hello everyone! I am __________________________ and I am a child
living in 19th century China...
• I am here today to tell you about my culture and how it is to live in these
times...
• Usually, when people want to get entertained, they go to the .....
• A normal day at school here is like ...
Make sure the three students of your group show up in the video and that you
speak a similar quantity of text (1 min each approximately). You can ask someone
to help you record the clip.
Record the clip from one iPad and save it. Later, your teacher will explain to you
how to share it with the rest of your class using the platfom PADLET.
Brainstorm on what you want to include in your video HERE
Write the script of what you are going to say in the video capsule HERE.
Remember to include the lines of the three members of the group.

  • 2. This project is part of unit 1 and it is aligned with the Middle Years Programme objetives. Objective B: Comprehending written and visual text (research)  Identify basic facts, messages, main ideas and supporting details in source texts.  Recognise details about an ancient culture kids.  Use relevant information from source texts, including photographs. Objective C: Communication in response to oral and /or visual text  Communicate with a sense of audience and respond appropriately to simple questions.  Exchange ideas and phrases to communicate ideas, feelings and information on a variety of aspects related to ancient cultures. Objective D: Use of Language  write using a basic range of vocabulary related to ancient culture kids.  write using grammatical structures such as past tense, time sequence connectors.  use language to suit the context.  use of text type conventions appropriately.

Student 2 / The summarizer: His responsibility is to synthesize ideas and put them down on paper. He is also in charge of jotting down ideas on this booklet. Student 3 / Team manager: He is in charge of sorting out time and resources. His role is to organise the team, check that things are done on time and note down the online resources used. He will monitor the team´s work by using a checklist.

VIDEO CAPSULE INSTRUCTIONS Once you have collected the information you need, you will have to prepare a video capsule of no more than 3 minutes, where you impersonate a child belonging to the culture you picked. From his perspective, you will have to explain what is life like for a person from that culture. Use props to enhance your performance. You can use the following phrases to start your video: • Hello everyone! Make sure the three students of your group show up in the video and that you speak a similar quantity of text (1 min each approximately). You can ask someone to help you record the clip. Record the clip from one iPad and save it. Later, your teacher will explain to you how to share it with the rest of your class using the platfom PADLET.
