1. Personal statement
Ever since beingintroducedtomedia,ithasalwaysbeenthe subjectIhave beenmostpassionate
about.From televisionshowstoblogposts,mediaissomethingwe are all affectedby,whichiswhat
continuouslymakesme feel involved, makingme wanttofurthermyskillsandbranchout intothe
industryinmyfuture.Spendingmycollegeyearsstudyingthe subject,Ihave onlygrownmore
interestedandkeentolearnmore.Iam keentointime acquire a jobin the industrywhichIenjoy,
and I hope thatupon completingUniversityIwill be inemployment,justasinspiredasIcurrently
am.
In takingMediastudiesatcollege,ithashelpedme grow intoamore confidentandresilientperson.
Duringmy previousyearstudyingthe subject,Iwas taskedtocreate a short documentary,based
uponCulture inthe Digital Age.Thisthenledme tospenda lot of time researchingintothe topic
and howit hasevolvedoverthe years,furtheringmyindependentworkingskillsaswell asallowing
me to learn more about a subjectI am passionate for.CurrentlyIaminthe processof creatinga
secondshortdocumentaryonregional identityandthe historyof live musicinthe NorthEast,
meaningthatI have had to thoroughlyresearchintothe historyof ourregionandwhathappened
overtime,againbeingsomethingItake greatinterestinmeaningthatwitheachdayI grow more
interestedinwhatIam creating.Iknowthat whenattendingthe course,these experienceswould
largelyhelpme aswhenworkingonsomethingIpersonallyenjoy,Iknow thatI will alwaysworkto
my greatestpotential.Furthermore,myITskillshave grownwithme inusingsoftware Ipreviously
hadn't usedincludingPremierProandLogic Pro X,creatingpieceslike shortfilmswhile working with
others,progressingmyteamworkskills,alongwithmypractical skills,whichInow have withme for
life.
Workinginretail,Ihave facedmany scenario'swhere the skillsIhave acquiredduringmycollege
yearshave helpedme indifferentways.Ispendalarge sumof mytime workingonthe checkout
tills,therefore myrole isall abouthelpingcustomersandensuringtheyhadagoodexperiencewith
us,and if not, whatI can do to help - This greatlyhelpingme gainconfidencewitheachday.Whena
problemoccurs,mydecisionmakingskillshave helpedme inseveral situations,aswell asmy
independentworkingskills,asthere are timeswhenI'mable toresolve asituationonmyown,but
sometimesIdoneedtomake the decisiontogethelpif I am unable todo somyself.Followingthis,
spendingtime onthe shopfloormeansmovingstockandmakingsure everythingiswhere itshould
be,immediatelybeinghelpedbymypresentationandorganisationskills,ensuringeverythingis
presentedtoahighstandard forour customers.
As well asat college andinthe workplace,Ihave overtime gainedskillsduringmyplacementata
local business,researchingintothe local communityandproducingblogpostsforcustomerstoread.
My time isspentinteractingwiththe businessownersaswell astheircustomers,alongwithother
employees,improvingmycommunicationskillsaswell ashelpingme gainfurtherconfidence,which
will helpme whenattendingUniversityasithasallowedme tointeractwithothers,all while
researchingintodifferenthistoriesandlearningnew thingswitheachweek.
Withan admirationforfilmanddifferentcultures,Iknow thatbeingapart of thiscourse wouldonly
make my passiontomove furtherintothe industrygrow increasinglyovertime,helpingme towards
my future careerpath.
