1. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
(Word Selection)
Elliott Williams
2. Word Selection
Throughout my final piece i used
vocabulary which could be considered
exclusive to urban speakers. An
example being “The art of savagery by
MiZo”, the use of the word savage was
a conscious effort to relate to one of
my target social groups, the
“Hypebeasts”. My research into
Hypebeasts vocabulary allowed me to
see that the word “savage” is regularly
used by the social group.
3. Word Selection
Another example being the
word “unleashed”, a word very
much part of a Hypebeast’s
vocabulary. As a result I
decided to include it into a
cover line on my music
magazines front cover,
4. Word Selection
Thought about word selection
wasn’t limited to the front cover.
On my double page spread, I
used words such as “Whip”,
meaning car or “bar” meaning
lyric, these are words my target
audience are accustomed to
using. To find appropriate words I
used UrbanDictionary.com . I
believe urban language used has
made the magazine more
relatable to my Target audience.
