1. OTHER TEASER TRAILER
CONVENTIONS.
THE PURPOSE OF A TEASER TRAILER IS TO INFORM AN AUDIENCE OF AN
UPCOMING FILM WHICH IS GOING TO BE RELEASED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
NOT ONLY IS IT TO INFORM THE READER OF ITS NEAR RELEASE, BUT ALSO
ENTICE THE READER IN A WAY WHICH WILL MAKE THEM LOOK OUT FOR
THE FILM AND PERSUADE THEM TO WATCH IT.
2. IDENTS
An ident is a moving or still image which is
recognisable to a particular organisation.
This is shown at the beginning of a teaser
trailer for around 1-3 seconds in order that
the viewer can associate the following film
with any previous films the company has
created.
This image is a screen shot of our ident
which simply fades on and off and has its
own non diegetic soundtrack. We wanted
our ident to be very simplistic as when we
did our research we felt the less complicated
ident's were the more effective and
rememberable.
Our ident does also share some brand
identity with our film as it follows the colour
scheme of blue and white which we have
used frequently in all of our products and
the non-diegetic soundtrack reflects the
nature of our film.
3. Titles and
Fonts
The font chosen for a film title usually depends on the genre of the film and will be associated in some way to
the themes covered in the film. For example the picture below is the title used for a horror film. They have
used two colours, red and black, which are usually associated with danger and darkness; this therefore reflects
the genre of the film.
Below is the title we created for our film. The alternating luminous
colours reflect the 'party' theme which is constant throughout our
trailer, and the alternating lower and upper case letters reflect the
inability to text or write when you have consumed alcohol or other
substances. We also decided to have our title 'shake' in our teaser
trailer to imply disorientation when you are drunk. These features
of our title clarify the themes shown in our film as well as a clear
genre.
4. Institutional
Conventions.
A teaser trailer for a blockbuster film would include:
• High quality clips due to professional cameramen and
technical equipment.
• Companies that create blockbuster films such as '20th
century fox' would have the funding to enable them
opportunities such as using music in a trailer which is
copyrighted for example the soundtracks used in 'Fifty Shades
of Grey'.
• The conventions of a teaser trailer will be clear due to
professional editing such as, quick paced and enticing cuts,
titles and credits used appropriately, colour schemes
associated with the genre of the film etc.
• They would also have the funding to provide high quality
mise en scene in order that the film looks realistic and
modern day.
• You could also expect to see famous actors and actresses
names in the titles.
Although you may see some of these
features in a more independent film, it is
still unlikely that they will have the funding
for the professional equipment and other
appliances available. However this does
not mean they aren't always just as
successful...
5. British Independent.
For my British Independent film I looked at Shaun of the Dead which was one of the British Independent film award
winners of 2004. British Independent films are created on a lower budget in comparison to a blockbuster movie.
Although some British Independent films such as 'Shaun of the Dead' can be as successful as a blockbuster film the
quality of the film will not be as good. For example they would be working with more 'every day' mise en scene, in
Shaun of the Dead for example it's based around average people in a village. Their teaser trailers will be less technical,
not including more advanced things such as high quality picture or they may not have the funding to use copyrighted
music.

6. The setting is usually
consistent throughout
the film, cities or
neighborhoods, homes
or towns. Most often
teen drama's are set in
'every day' locations in
order that the
characters have a
more realistic
interaction with the
viewer. There is
normally no
extravagant setting nor
props which makes
teen drama's exciting
as they are more
relatable to the target
audience.
To follow these
conventions we included
only one location which
was a house, this was
consistent throughout. This
showed that our characters
were average teenagers,
and every day people just
like the target audience for
our film.
7. The typical characters in a
teen drama are of a similar
age to it's target audience
and are middle class, every
day, working citizens in
order that they have a
closer character
connection with the
audience. Normally several
different personalities are
involved to create conflict
through relationships or
groups of characters with
their own developments
and intersects with the
other characters.
We followed these conventions by using a main character which is in the same age bracket
range as our target audience. Our character is presented as an every day citizen with no
specialty about her for example being famous or rich. We also showed relationships
between the characters through the use of the 'getting ready' scene at the beginning which
allowed the audience to explore the two girls friendship and the implied sexual scenes
between the main character and the male character. Other characters are involved in the
trailer and have their own individual personalities and roles.

8. The typical themes and story lines
covered in most teen drama's are
those involved in sex, drugs,
alcohol, partying. More sinister teen
drama's involve gangs and rivalry.
There is normally always some sort
of conflict through relationships as
well weather it be a sexual
relationship or not.
In our teaser trailer and
other products we
conveyed the typical
themes which would
usually be covered in a
teen drama through our
use of props, music,
exploration of character
relationships and
information through
context such as writing.
9. The teen drama's created
today focus on the reality
and brutality of young
teenage life today in more
deprived or middle class
areas.. Therefore props
that make a constant
appearance in these types
of films are objects such as
weapons, illegal drugs,
alcohol. Settings such as
house parties, cars, street
settings etc. are also used
to reflect this.
We have used typical props
such as alcohol bottles,
heels and implied use of
illegal drugs to focus on the
reality and brutality of
young teenage life and we
have also implied a 'house
party' scene to reflect the
same thing.
10. The camera work in a Teen
Drama is usually quite
simplistic as they focus on
real life events and
situations and therefore for
it to be believable are
unable to do anything
abstract, unless this is its
purpose. Lighting is also
simplistic for the same
reason, using settings like
houses and streets and
editing is usually
straightforward to have the
same effect. Sound is
usually diegetic, however
non-diegetic sound effects
may be used.
For our teaser trailer we haven't used any abstract lighting, camerawork or
editing in order that our storyline remains as if it is 'real life' or 'based on a true
story'. Not using any of this also makes it look more professional and believable
for the audience. We have used a non-diegetic soundtrack only to reflect the
themes covered in our film and because we chose to have no dialogue. We have
also used some 'crowd' sound loops to add to the ambiance.
