2. My research into the genre has enabled me to grasp
what would be effective in a punk music video. It has
also given me a chance to develop a greater
understanding of the reasons behind parts of the genre.
One point that is of great importance in any music video
are the props and costume that is contained, as it must
maintain convention and purpose.
The following props and costume have been taken into
consideration of the genre.

3. Heavy chains are seen to be
worn by people who are ‘tough’
and intimidating, which are
what people belonging to the
punk genre are seen to be, so
this is a fitting accessory.
These are a typical style that
the punk genre has adapted,
so it is used as a statement to
others that the individual
wearing them is part of this
style.
Un- branded high- tops. These
are cheap shoes, and as the punk
demographics are typically
working- class, these would be
stylish shoes that they could
afford.
G.B.H are an influential
punk band. The vocalist
will be showing his
influence by wearing this.
This accessory demonstrates
difference, as there are many
different types of these
bracelets that people can
wear and ‘mix ‘n’ match’
them, which makes people
feel unique.

4. This is a typical pattern
used in the punk
genre, so it is another
statement linking to the
genre.
This prop is used by most guitar
players. It will make it look more
like the artists are playing the
song if they use one, as the song
is rather fast- paced, so one
would most likely be used in the
original recording.

This is to make the content more believable and
conventional when the vocalist sings in the music
venue, as they would always be used by vocalists in
venues, as they need to be heard alongside the
music, which is incredibly loud.
This guitar is very conventional of the genre. It
is different in its design, and has an image on it
of an erected middle finger. This demonstrates
lack of respect and youth, which is
conventional to the punk genre.

5. The bassist shall be wearing a T- Shirt with
an alcoholic beverage logo on it. This may
demonstrate the bassist’s appreciation
for youth and recklessness, as the youth
are known to drink excessively for
extreme results. This is conventional of
the genre, as it conveys the ‘lack of
consequence’ attitude.
The bassist will be

jeans, which give the
impression that he
belongs to the
working class, as he
cannot purchase
new ones. They’re
also a tough
material that people
wear for long- term
consumption.
The bassist shall also be
wearing another kind of hightops.

6. This bass is conventional to the genre, as they
are used in every band.
This guitar strap is very different and it connotes the act of violence,
much like in the ‘Distillers’ song- City of Angels. So it is conventional and
relates to another music video within the punk genre.

7. These summer shorts give
the impression that the
drummer is rather laidback and not too
concerned about looking
the part, as it is
conventional for the artists
to be more interested in
the music.
These ripped
jeans suggest
that the
drummer may
not care about
how scruffy he
looks, as it is
conventional for
people within
the punk genre
to dress this way.
The drummer is wearing a
shirt with the band logo on
it. This is an effective way
of the band advertising
themselves and bands
tend to do this.

8. The drummer shall need a pair of drumsticks to play the drums. In this
instance, the drum kit shall also say, ‘Damaged’, which is another way of
advertising the name of the band and creating an identity for them.
