3. Indie rock is a genre in which the artists tend to dress
independently and stand out from the ‘norm’. They
usually dress quite laid back to give off a ‘careless’
look. Many bands such as the Arctic Monkeys tend to
mix smart with casual by wearing bow ties and
blazers, however, younger groups tend to dress more
casual in items such as ripped jeans and baggy t-
shirts.
4. Locations
Urban locations –
represent their social lives
as youths. They are seen
to hang around in these
urban areas (skate park
and rooftop) as if they go
there together as friends
to hang out and mess
around. It can also imply
that they are up to no
good and give off the
‘bad boy’ representation
alongside their style of
clothing.
5. Instruments
Indie bands tend to use the
same instruments such as the
stereotypical Gibson E’s and
Fender Telecaster. Instruments
in indie rock music videos
appear to look expensive as
they are usually vintage
coming from the 1960s rock
era. The instruments used are
made to make it look like a
live performance making their
music sound raw.
6. Product placement
In our music video, we plan to
have a shot based around a
coke can which will be focused
on within a extreme close up
shot. This will be kicked by the
lead singer to the other band
members. We decided to
include a coke can as it is a
product usually associated with
the younger generation,
therefore our audience will
recognise it. The idea of the lead
singer kicking the can also
represents the band as not
caring and continuing the ‘bad
boy’ look.
