Mise En Scene
1.
2. In our music video, we will be using certain props to distinguish personalities of
the band members as well as to highlight representations of social groups. We
will be using props such as cigarettes, alcohol, graffiti and musical instruments.
The use of cigarettes will help portray the social group of teenage boys as these
are the main characters in the music video and the prop is associated with the
genre of indie rock. The use of alcohol will help the audience as they can relate
to the band members as well as adding realism to the performance as they will
see them in a ‘natural and realistic’ state. Graffiti will challenge the audience’s
interpretations as it creates a negative persona of the band members however it
is a convention of the indie genre.
Musical instruments are a main prop in
the music video as they are used to
show the band members performing.
This will help construct a setting for the
shots as musical instruments in a studio
relate to a band playing. It also makes
it realistic for the audiences and for a
younger audience they could
perceive it as inspirational.
3. The costume is an important part of mise en scene as it helps
the audience to identify the artists and genre therefore will
be able to know whether it is their style of music. The costume
helps create identity for the band as they will all have their
own style. The costume helps create conventions so that the
audience can clearly see the genre of music that they are
listening to through the music video. The colours of the
costume also help create and link to the genre. The use of
certain materials in costume create specific moods for
example leather. Leather is related to Indie Rock as they are
stereotypical conventions for the band to wear therefore
dressing our band members in leather will help show the
genre.
