1. Issue Legal Repercussions Ethical Repercussions Solution
Copyright â
Copyright is a legal right that gives the
owner exclusive rights to how their work is
used.
This has legal repercussions if
someone uses copyrighted work
without permission of the owner.
This could affect my film if I decided
to copyright my work and someone
used any part of it.
Using copyrighted work is ethically
wrong and can incur fines if
copyrighted work is used. It would
affect my film as I have created all
material and it belongs to me, so
using it or distributing it without my
permission would not be right.
As my copyright is granted automatically upon
creation of my work I wonât need to get a
grant. You can mark your work with the
copyright symbol but whether you mark the
work or not doesnât affect protection you
have.
Intellectual property rights-
They allow creators, or owners, of patents,
trademarks or copyrighted works to
benefit from their own work or investment
in a creation.
Protection means an
invention cannot be commercially
made, used, distributed or sold
without the ownerâs
consent. Rights are usually
enforced in courts that hold the
authority to stop rights
infringement. This would stop
people using my intellectual
property rights.
Film wouldnât exist without
intellectual property rights
(copyright as it is film) as people
would just watch illegal films. This
means that intellectual property
rights are very important as it allows
people to benefit from their own
work, as I would, and stop others
copying.
My rights are automatically granted as soon as I
create my original work as it comes under
âWriting and literary works, art, photography,
films, TV, music, web content, sound
recordingsâ
2. Slander/libel â
Slander is a spoken defamatory statement
and libel is a defamatory statement in
writing
Slander/libel can have legal
repercussions of damaging ones
reputation with lasting
consequences. It is not illegal
but the person committing
slander can be sued.
Itâs generally thought a civil
wrong to defame someone and
could possibly affect me and my
film if someone chose to.
I will clearly state that any similarities to
people or situations are merely coincidence
as this is a work of fantasy and not meant
to be taken as any more.
Filming permission â
Permission needed to film in certain places
Some areas may need
permission, either in writing or
spoken word to use their land.
This will affect me as I will need
to get this.
Itâs not right to film on land
where you do not have
permission.
I have filming permission to film in my
house.
Royalties - a sum paid to a patentee for
the use of a patent or to an author or
composer for each copy of a book sold or
for each public performance of a work.
The main concern for royalties
for my film would be in music
and using royalty free music or
having to pay an artist.
Using peopleâs music that has
patented royalties and not
paying the royalties is wrong
and could end up in being sued.
I will use royalty free music from websites
that publish these songs, in return for
credit.
3. Offensive language or behaviour â
Any behaviour or language deemed
violent or offensive.
I do not have any violence,
offensive behaviour or offensive
language in my film so there are
no legal repercussions.
My age rating will be PG, as
there are some upsetting
themes that qualify it not being
a U but no swear words or bad
language.
My age rating prevents younger more
sensitive children watching my film and
becoming upset but should be suitable for
a child aged around eight or older.
Public interest - Anything affecting the
rights, health, or finances of the public at
large.
My film will have no legal
repercussions on public interest.
My film will have no ethical
repercussions on public interest.
Performance rights â different to royalties
in that performance rights are needed to
be payed when a piece of music is being
performed live not a pre-recorded song.
My film will not be pre-recorded
so there are no legal
repercussions.
My film will not be pre-recorded
so there are no ethical
repercussions.
