25. The Madison-Oneida BOCES School Library System
received a $20,000 grant to support its “Ignite the
Common Core with Library of Congress Primary
Resource Documents” project. The grant is sponsored
in part by the Library of Congress Teaching with
Primary Sources Eastern Region Program,
coordinated by Waynesburg (Pa.) University.
The project will allow teams of school librarians and
teachers to receive training and hands-on experience
in developing lesson plans that incorporate the inquiry
process, the Common Core Learning Standards and
primary sources. Participants will pilot these lessons in
the classroom to determine their effectiveness, and
successful lessons will be shared regionally through
ongoing professional development at BOCES and
through a Moodle learning management system.
In addition, teams of pre-service teachers from
Syracuse University and Utica College will participate
in the project.
Participants will have access to all Library of Congress
primary sources and will also be connected to local
resources housing primary sources.
