Smith Middle School presented assessment data from 2007-2011 showing: 1) 8th grade historically struggled in math while 6th and 7th grade showed improvement in reading and math over time. 2) Despite 69% proficiency in 8th grade writing, over half of these students were not proficient in reading. 3) Smith Middle School test scores were below the district averages in most subjects and grades except for 8th grade writing. 4) To improve, the presentation recommended catching deficiencies in 6th grade, consistent teamwork and planning across grades, regular assessments, staff development, and after school tutoring.

3. What conclusions can we draw from this
data?
 Historically the 8th grade has struggled in Math
 Despite 8th grade math struggling, 6th and 7th grade have shown great
improvement over the years.
 Although 69% of our 8th grade students are proficient in writing, more
than half of those same students are not proficient in reading.
