2. THE HEART
• Your heart is about the size of your
fist
• It is situated in the middle of your
chest, behind the breastbone.
• Heart is made up of a special type of
muscle called cardiac muscle
• Pacemaker – signals the heart to work
non- stop
3. IN ONE CIRCUIT
• Blood flows from the heart to
the body ( head, trunk, legs
and arms) back to the heart
• Carries nutrients and oxygen
to the cells
• Carbon dioxide and waste
way from the cells
4. SECOND CIRCUIT
• Blood flows from the
heart to the lungs
and back to the heart
• The blood arrives
deoxygenated
5. • For the circulatory system to work
oxygenated and deoxygenated blood be
kept separate
• The 2 circuit meet in the heart
• The heart is divided by a thick wall called
septum
• Half of the heart collects oxygenated blood
from the lungs and pumps around the
body
• The other half collect deoxygenated blood
from the body and pumps it to the lungs
• Each splits into 2 chamber to give us a total
of 4 chambers
