How Leadership And Attitude Go Together
How Leadership and Attitude Go Together
According to Merriam–Webster Dictionary (2014) attitude is a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person's behavior" (pg. 1). Normally, when
someone thinks of communication, it's in the verbal form. But what about communications in the nonverbal form, for example one's mood? Is it a
possibility if a leader comes to work with a negative attitude that it can be damaging to the whole team? It is imperative to make sure that leaders
understand that coming to work in a positive mood is crucial. A negative mood could be damaging to the whole team, one person's mood could change
morale, and there is also critical thinking that goes into understanding why.

2012). Employees will be more willing to give all they've got to the job because they are also satisfied with the environment. Negative attitudes
can have consequences on input and drive of each team member (Volmer, J, 2012). The scholarly article by Volmer, J. addresses the issue of why it
is so crucial to come to work with a positive attitude. If leaders don't, it can have a domino effect of bad outcomes for the organization, one's self,
and followers. This was my first time using the school library to find a scholarly article on my topic. The key words I used were leadership and
communication as well as attitude. I did not find an article right away and realized I needed to be more specific in my search. Just because the article
may contain my key words doesn't mean it's on the subject I wanted. Instead, what I decided to do was to find an article that had leadership and
communication in the subject heading and attitude as the keyword. When looking for a journal article there are characteristics to look for. Most
journal articles are plain, meaning that they are black and white and do not have advertisements for nonrelated produtcts. More importantly, other peers
that are knowledgeable in the same areas have reviewed the article (CSU–Global, n.d). Because there is research that is being conducted it could be
lengthy with all the explanation, tables, and/or graphs (CSU–Global, n.d). Make sure that at the end there is some sort of reference information.

The Glass Wall : The International Border
The Glass Wall : The International Border
Most people might have seen some stories in the news through various media about illegal immigrants and refugees trying to get into several European
countries due to the terror of ISIS. Nowadays the nations throughout the world tend to become much more polarized when it comes to the policy about
the refugees and national border. One nation claims a wider range of engagement policy, emphasizing globalization, and in contrast, another insists to
keep their own interests intact through regionalization. Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, belongs to the former faction, who welcomes
globalization, while Donald Trump, a well–known U.S. presidential candidate, is in the latter camp, who advocates ... Show more content on

It is practically impossible to totally block the flow. The national border in the traditional sense is now arguably obsolete when we consider global
economy and morality of people as global citizens.
Some people, regardless of their will, are born in under economically a very poor condition, or in a place where a civil war is going on. For them, the
regionalization by national borders is like a huge prison or even a death sentence. Still many countries prohibits people escaping from poverty or a
war in their own counrty entering their territories through the borders. No politician suggest a total and immediate dissolution of national borders and
it seems practically impossible to do it any time soon. However, there have been periods in history when national border was practically open for
newcomers. In the 1850s, many people flooded into Australia for Gold, and in the 1900s, people came to the United States from Europe to find new
chances. In these two specific cases, the borders were completely open for everyone. Anyone from anywhere in the world could come, and make a new
home there. At the time, the U.S. and Australian government were trying to attract more settlers to pioneer and develop their vast territories and
wanted more workforce. They could accomplish great economic developments by the immigrants. They show one potentianl benefit of opening the
national border. Now, in many developed countries, graying population is one

Is Google Making Us Stupid?
What was once filled with intricate plots, deep narrative, and creative thinking, is now replaced . . . wait . . . what were we talking about? Let me
Google the answer really quick. Oh, too bad; the article is so long, I don't want to read it all. I'll just skim the text and hopefully we can piece
something together. This scene can be played out in virtually anyone's life nowadays. But, why? Why can one's attention span be so short? Is this
dangerous? Summary Nicholas Carr, Harvard alumni and member of Encyclopedia Britannica's editorial board of advisors, questioned the effects of
search engines on our minds in his article to The Atlantic entitled, "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" claiming that the use of search engines causes a
loss of the ability to deeply read and as therefore causes our minds to lose the ability to process information. He used personal stories to depict the
apparent change in his and others ' minds from having the ability to "read deeply," to habitually skimming over the text in an effort to hastily extract
information. Specifically targeting the leaders of the Google search engine – whom he said believe that, "Ambiguity is not an opening for insight but a
bug to be fixed," – he related several causal reasons as to why the engines affect our minds negatively. He used a study on online research habits from
the University College London to stress the point that people conducting research tend to read "no more than one or two pages of an article or book

develop the skill of thinking critically. Being able to use critical thinking requires knowledge of facts and concepts about the subject matter. I found this
article interesting because I think it is important that students develop critical thinking skills. Most scholarly articles tend to have an abstract that

Developing New And Innovative Programs For Educators
As the world become more and more interconnected, as well as dependent on technology, it has become increasingly clear that educators need to make
sure they teach their students the proper skills to be active participants in the world around them. Seeing the potential pitfalls of students not being able
to meet the skills of tomorrow, some organizations and groups have set about lobby for jus this type of educational reforms.
One of the leaders of developing new and innovative programs for educators is the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, known
better as the ASCD. The ASCD makes the case for students not only be taught to be successful in a complex, interconnected world, but also for the

Interpersonal skills are a life skill that are used every day in our interactions with other people, either individually or in a group. Those that work on
developing their interpersonal skills are not successful in their professional life, but they are also successful in their personal lives as well.
The ASCD is not the only group lobbying for students to be taught with 21st century skills. Another important group would be the National Education
Association. The NEA, similar to the ASCD, has broken down their four main talking points into what they refer as "The Four Cs". They are critical
thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Similar to the ASCD in some respects, the NEA changes it up and directly states the need for
creativity as a desired 21st century skill.
Another group, which so happens to be the one I found the most agreeable with in regards to a proper 21st century skill, is the Partnership for 21st
Century Learning. What I personally found so interesting about P21 was how they broke down their desired 21st century skills into easily digestible
units and spelled exactly the need for teaching these to students. For example, one of the pillars of the P21 guidelines was the idea of Civic Literacy.
As a future Social Studies educators, I think it's incredibly important that all students are instilled with a certain degree of understanding about

A Research Study On Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd )
According to Purdue Owl, a research paper is defined as "the culmination and final product of an involved process of research, critical thinking, source
evaluation, organization, and composition." The preliminary and most important step of writing a research paper is, unsurprisingly, the research itself
as it provides the writer the essential information to create the paper. In the past, collecting information required hours of pulling information from
journals and books that had to be first evaluated for credibility based on the author or organization that published the source. However, the emergence
of the Internet now allows users to easily obtain information from multiple resources at a time with. With an abundance of information... Show more

there is a positive reputation for this website considering that it is one of the most popular health websites on the Web. Although it seems scholarly and

factor when determining the initial credibility of a web resource is that it is written by a credible and well–informed author. The material on ASD was

Nursing is a profession that requires a unique skill set. A few of the traits include compassion, understanding and empathy. Clayton State University has
a goal to produce competent, compassionate, professional nurses with communication and technical skills. Clayton State's School of Nursing has
outlined nine program outcomes or concepts that are part of the Conceptual Curriculum Model. These concepts include caring, communication, critical

A nurse that progresses adequately can transition into a leadership role within their organization. Organizational transition can be viewed on a
broad scale. This type of transition occurs around us in a social, political or economical setting. This can include changes in procedures and
practices (Schumacher & Meleis, 1994, p.121). A true leader can adapt to change and convince others to do so as well. In a medical setting, change
is always occurring. There is constant research and discoveries being made to help improve the quality of life. An organization must be aware of
new findings and implement the necessary policies that will put the patient's best interests first. Again, we can compare organizational transition to
the program outcomes. A nurse must be able to use informatics and interdisciplinary collaboration. A nurse must be able to use the necessary
resources to advance his or her knowledge and communicate well with others to improve oneself. These are the qualities of an effective leader. The
purpose of obtaining these qualities is to reach a common goal; provide the best care for the patient. I believe that having a genuine nurse client
relationship is essential to providing quality care. I use the word genuine because I believe that if a nurse looks at his or her role in the hospital,
nursing home, etc. as just a "job", then they will be unsuccessful in meeting the goals

Analysis Of Mahan's Advocacy For Sea Power Against...
In many scholarly and military circles, the writings of Mahan and Mackinder are often portrayed as two purist theories opposing one another.
Scholars pit Mahan's advocacy for sea power against Mackinder's insights into the benefits of land power and soon the real genius of both is lost. (For
examples, see Dodds and Sidaway 292, 2004 and Colls 238–239, 2002 as cited in Dodds and Sidaway 293, 2004 and Holmes and Yoshihara 25, 2005).
In truth, in almost every respect, Mahan's and Mackinder's views are complementary. While Mahan does emphasize the importance of sea power to
a nation's economic prosperity and security, his passionate insight is a far cry from any assertion against the importance of land power. Conversely,
Mackinder's insights focus quite extensively on the potential for a country to develop a powerful land force on the core of the Eurasian landmass,
but again we see throughout his writing the underlying assumption of the importance of sea power. Both men agreed on so many salient points that it
is far better to read their works as a whole and thereby glean the collective wisdom of their perspectives, than to analyze them separately as two
opposing schools of thought. In this way, one can see that their complementary insights are greater than the sum of their individual works. There are a
few scholars that recognize this unfortunate trend of depicting a false land power vs. sea power debate. Jon Sumida is one who acknowledges that the
Mahan texts are often

Who Is The Secret Of Success?

appropriately. Throughout the movie, Andrew was able to experience a diverse amount of emotions such as love, jealousy, affection, being scared, and
happiness. Above all, Andrew felt devastated and heartbroken as he overheard Little Miss being told by her father that she "cannot invest your
emotions in a machine" (Bicentennial Man, 1999). Unfortunately, Andrew is once more treated as a household appliance and more importantly felt
sad, since it was impossible to be with the only person he loved, which was Little Miss. As a result, Andrew gains this desire to have facial expressions,

Factors related to rater inconsistencies identification and measurement in DMP is necessary to avoid factors underlying variability in decision

Unlike Baker, Barkaoui limits the think aloud protocol as its only quantification of the rating scores, underestimating interference of the think aloud
protocol in the rating process(Barkaoui,2010,57). The difference in the number of participants may restrict the author from applying other
counterbalance methods in this case. Another important issue to point out is the data collection and presentation of the studies. Barkaoui (2010) rater
samples includes natives and non–natives, qualities that may distort the study results as an external factor(p.57). It is in doubt that such differences has
no impact on rating scores collected since other studies have claimed them as a factor that has an impact on raters rating performance. Regarding the
data presentation, Baker (2010) studies further demonstrates more distinctive details and explicit insights in each raters behavior details. It successfully
illustrate the data collected during the write aloud protocols in the findings discussions (Baker,2012,p.237–238). Barkaoui (2012) experimental study

In this essay, Gorovitz points out several logical fallacies in embryonic research opponent essays, including Kass'. For instance, one of his
arguments is that opposing essays usually use slippery slope arguments, stating that starting of artificial insemination would lead us to social
disaster (117). He argues that the slippery slope arguments are not valid in this discussion because they never provide any rational evidences why
we cannot stop after we start down this path. Gorovitz claims that "Collectively we have significant capacity to exercise judgment and control" (118)
so the practice of artificial insemination will not lead us to the disaster. There are few more ill logics in Kass' and other opposing essays that
Gorovitz has pointed out. Ironically, however, logical fallacies he uses to attack his opponents also appear in his essay too.
Another Gorovitz's important argument is the argument against Kass' statement, "The human embryo is not mere meat; it is not just stuff; it is not a
'thing'" (Kass 102). Gorovitz argues that according to Kass' statement, human cadavers which are also not mere meat, not just stuff, not the thing,
should be protected from being used for research purpose too. But since it is acceptable to use human cadavers in research, in medical education, and
in organs transplant, Gorovitz claims that these using of cadavers justify using of embryos as well. In this comparison,

Homeland Security And Homeland Defense
Introduction
Since the September 11, 2001 events, the United States of America gravitated towards a more aggressive approach in its security. The result of the
tragic events was the establishment of homeland security. The White House, the federal government and the Congress joined together to establish it.
On September 20, 2001, President George W. Bush issued an executive order 13228 to establish an Office of HomelandSecurity within the White
House and assigning the Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Ridge as its Director (Bullock, Haddow, & Coppola, 2013, p. 4). Ever since, the United
States (U.S.) Department of Homeland Security diversified and evolved the way it is today. The Homeland Defense was also integrated into
Homeland Security to protect the U.S. soil and its territories. However, what are Homeland Security and Homeland Defense? This paper will address
those question as well as covering their missions/goals, tasks, duties, and responsibilities. In addition, a section of this paper is the assessment of the
critical infrastructure protection programs of the U.S. The assessment will also include the overall capability of the nation's critical infrastructure
protection program to ensure the survivability of its critical infrastructure.
Homeland Security There are numerous definitions of homeland security. The definitions can create confusion on what homeland security really do.

Ans 6. "Prejudice always complicated the truth." The movie 12 Angry Men, by means of several situational examples, reaffirms the fact.
The first case in point is of the boy on trial who is born and brought up in slums. Many of the jury members, especially jurors 10, 7, 4 and 3 are
heavily influenced by the prejudices they hold against children from the slums. In one of the scenes, juror 10, goes into a rage and explains why
people from the slums cannot be trusted and calls them little better than animals who gleefully kill each other off for fun. Juror 4 had earlier pointed
out that slums are breeding grounds for criminals and that these slum children are a threat to our society to which 10 adds that they are "real trash".

Theoretical perspectives:
Some of the theories that explain certain situations in the movie are:
Confirmation Bias – Because of which we tend to be willing to gather facts that support certain conclusions but disregard other facts that support
different conclusions. Individuals who are highly defensive in this manner show significantly greater left prefrontal cortex activity as measured by EEG
than do less defensive individuals.
Selective perception – Due to which we, out of prejudice, actively screen–out information that we do not think is important.
Source credibility bias – Because of which and out of prejudice we reject something if we have a bias against the person, organization, or group to
which the person belongs: We are inclined to accept a statement by someone we like.
Choice–supportive bias – This occurs when we distort our memories of chosen and rejected options to make the chosen options seem more attractive.

Two people walk down the street side by side, each looking down into his hands attentively. Both occasionally sneak glances upwards, so as not to
run into anyone. They walk in silence until it is time for them to go their separate ways; they then mutter hasty goodbyes, and turn to face their

Erikson 's theories were formulated, in part, on the back of his own adolescent experiences; growing up in fascist Germany as the child of a German
father and Jewish mother, he agonized over his own cultural label in the face of the Third Reich. At the age of 37, he voiced his self–affirmation by
renaming himself Erik Homburger Erikson. Literally, he redefined himself as his son; metaphorically, he redesigned himself as the culmination of the
experiences of the first four decades of his life. Torn between his own unsteady conscience and the strident, crippling strains of Nazi propaganda,
Erikson struggled to identify with his own notion of himself. This same dichotomy – the notion of a struggle between the inner self that one conceives,
and the self–thrust upon us by the world – is the very fight that Turkle argues is necessary for the emergence of a purposeful, mature self. Today 's
adolescents, she says, bombarded by the beeps, hums, and whirs of technology, have become co–dependent with the piece of metal of their choosing,
unable to complete even the most basic human functions of prioritization, organization, and independent thought. Instead of enabling, technology
effectively becomes a crutch –– an unwitting maneuver to postpone, conceal, and disingenuously morph. The price of quick–and–easy, Turkle
contends, has been a debilitating mental servitude. Creating technology is in the hands of the people, and

Leadership Theory And Application ( Ol 400 ) Mid Term Exam
Leadership Theory and Application (OL 400) Mid–Term Exam Jesus Cabral Brandman University Is leadership more imperative than management?
First, let's appreciate what a leader and a manager are or do. According to (Daft, 2015), leadership is an influence relationship among leaders and
followers who intend real changes and outcomes that reflect their shared purposes (p. 5). Therefore, a leader enjoys a high degree of influence and
soft skills and appeals largely to the intrinsic needs of their followers, subsequently the extrinsic needs of their followers come as a result of their
work. Some examples of non–business leaders have been great leaders such as General Patton, Malcom X, Deli Lama, Mother Teresa. There have
also been well known bad intentioned leaders. All these leaders have appealed to the needs of their followers through intention, change, shared
purpose and influence. Bad intentioned leaders such as Charles Manson, Hitler, Reverend Jim Jones and David Koresh to name a few have created
change through perceived good intentions and grew their influence over their followers by committing them to a shared purpose, or by vision of
defeating a common enemy / foe. In most cases, the good leader is in the fronts of the battles or process, is responsible and has integrity such as
General Patton and on the opposite of good are leaders lacking integrity or responsibility that succeed with influencing others by being charismatic or a
"friend" etc. since

Psychological Skills Training
Psychological Skills Training
What exactly is Psychological Skills Training and for a coach or instructor, what advantage is gained by its implementation? In other words, why
bother?
Psychological Skills Training (PST) is typically more comprehensive than a few short sessions with a few simple interventions that a coach or instructor
might suggest. PST usually integrates cognitive and relaxation techniques in a more encompassing approach to mental training and as a complement to
physical training. Individualism is a hallmark of most PST programs. (Gill, 2000)

Why are mental skills so important to performance and why are they often neglected by coaches and athletes? Yogi Berra has been quoted as... Show

It is likely that the thinking of specific, detailed technique features that control physical movements would cause performance to worsen. This is
because of the phenomenon known as "cognitive interference" (when one thinks of what they are doing when performing a highly skilled activity in a
non–fatigued state, the thoughts interfere with the efficiency of automated skilled performance). When an athlete is fresh, task–relevant thinking
should be limited to tactical and decision–making content (e.g., anticipation, recognition of relevant cues) and general capacity features such as
smoothness, length, evenness, rhythm, etc. The detailed technique features of physical actions should be left to the automatic neuromuscular patterns
that have been developed through training. However, at the onset of the next performance stage, which is usually signaled by the first hint of fatigue, it
is necessary to begin to concentrate on specific, detailed technique thoughts along with other task–relevant items. This is required to avoid any
accumulated fatigue causing a loss in technique efficiency. The transfer of control to conscious thinking about skilled activities should maintain
performance efficiency and form. As a competition progresses and fatigue increases, task–relevant thinking should gradually include increasing
amounts of specific technique content so that performance efficiency is sustained.

Speciesism and Moral Individualism
In this essay, I will discuss and define both speciesism and moral individualism according to Paola Cavalieri's book, The Animal Question.
Additionally, I will provide my opinion on which is the strongest argument for speciesism and why I still disagree with it.
Speciesism is the belief that humans are inherently superior to all other animals, solely based on their species membership. This widely held belief is
used to justify the blatant discrimination of nonhuman animals, resulting in a lack of moral rights and the exploitation of defenseless beings.
This view, that humans are of special moral status, is constantly attempted to be rationalized in various ways. One such defense is that we are not
morally wrong to prioritize our needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the moral individualism reasoning, exploiting a rat, which is unable to display a reasonable level of intelligence or morality, would not be
considered as cruel as exploiting an ape that is capable of showing some forms of cognitive reasoning. Moral Individualism places "a requirement on
the basis of which what must be taken into account in the assignment of moral status are the organisms' own attributes, and not the classes to which
organisms are ascribed" (75). Although moral individualism seems perfectly reasonable, the changeover from today's common speciesist ideology
proves hard to overcome due to the long longstanding speciesist philosophical condition.
In my opinion, the strongest pro–speciesism argument is the one that attempts to solve the strongest anti–speciesism argument, the argument that
defeats virtually all other speciesist reasoning. Carl Cohen's statement in defense of speciesism, "what humans retain when disabled, animals never had"
(77), offers a reasonable response to moral individualism's favourite case, the argument from marginal cases.
The argument from marginal cases logically explains the hypocrisy we currently have when treating nonhumans as if they deserve no moral
consideration in the slightest. By comparing the current moral rights of cognitively disabled humans and rational nonhumans, this case forces us to
re–evaluate our reasoning behind our present exploitive actions. If the modern idea

Using Technology Into Your Classroom
Creating a WebQuest
In many classrooms today, the use of technology is becoming more popular in the classrooms. Many teachers are incorporating the use of technology
into their lessons and methods of teaching. One way to introduce technology into your classroom is to create a WebQuest.
What is a WebQuest you may ask? Well, a WebQuest is an inquiry
–base lesson format where students take information they are given and create new
information to make meaningful projects that they can present in different ways. In other words, students go on a quest using the web to find answers
to the questions given or complete a task, learning more on the subject while doing so.
Why use a WebQuest
A WebQuest is an interactive way to get students involved in the lesson, promotes higher level thinking, and gets students more familiar with different
aspects of the Internet. So, whether you are an education student new to the topic or an experienced teacher educator looking for new methods
involving technology, learning how to make a WebQuest is a useful tool to have.
A few tips before beginning.
1.Become familiar with resources available online.
2.Find topics that fit within the curriculum and which there are materials online. It makes sense to choose a project that couldn 't be done as well
without web access.
3.Choose a template that fits the subject and classroom. Pre–made templates can be found online, or one can be created in Word, Powerpoint, even
Excel. Keep in mind of what

However, though that may seem positive, I have understood that I have also had many flaws and weaknesses whilst writing my essay, which I had
not kept in mind during its writing process. Firstly, I have a weakness in citing and using references to support the information I had implied within
my work piece. Also, another weakness found is that whilst writing my essay, I tend to go for into my thinking stream and write up long sentences
that in the finalized version of the essay need to be shortened. The biggest flaw however according to the lecturer is "that it had no supporting
references on research to back up any of the arguments you were making – which made it less scientific and seemed more based on your intuition". The
comments received from the tutor where completely expected as I have had difficulties understanding the process of in–text citations and also due to
forgetting to input a reference page towards the end of my essay. In total, my essay writing skills would be much better and a greater mark would
have been awarded if these mistakes where avoided before the final submission of the essay; these flaws where all due to poor organization.
The assessment and feedback of my work was all mentioned throughout my write up process. The negative feedback related to missed out parts of my

India 's Foreign Policy Decision Making
Introduction
Being a land locked country surrounded by India and China, situated along the southern slopes of the Himalayas Nepal feels interference of India in
her domestic politics and in foreign policy making which indicates determinants of her foreign policy are not amply helpful and capabilities of her
foreign policy rather renders Nepal an absurd fear–psychosis position against India keeping her long away from world politics for hundreds of years.
Her geo strategic location makes her vulnerable and dependent on India. Their foreign policy decision making pivots the two next door neighbors
having geo political constraints. Given that there is China–preference in their sentiment, however, Nepal acts like a puppet in India's hands in her
decision making. Nepal is one of the best examples of being restrained by God given geo–demographic, geo–positional, socio–cultural realities. Albeit,
Nepal succeeds in preservation of autonomy, protection of national sovereignty, territoriality, maintenance of rule of laws, preservation of human rights
and equality, building friendship with neighbors, bringing foreign currency to boost up economy and keeping rising position in the central Asia.
Foreign Policy Choices of Nepal
If we focus on the foreign policy choices of Nepal we find geographic interference in her policy making. If geographical realities are domestic
compulsions, Sino–Indian relation is the most significant external outcome in the foreign policy of Nepal. The Tibet

Skills and Requirements of Professional Educators
Introduction:
An educator is an individual whose work is to pass the required information to the students. A professional educator is effective in all they do and is
responsible for the creation of an interactive learning environment. To do this, an educator should understand the requirements needed to satisfy the
goals and objectives of their curriculums as well as the content. As much as the work of an educator is to disseminate the required information to the
students, they also ensure that all the expectations of these students are met and if possible exceeded. An educator uses a variety of teaching strategies
which includes classroom management to ensure that the purpose of education is achieved. In this paper, I will demonstrate ... Show more content on

A professional educator understands that different factors or a combination of some factors influence his students differently depending on their
personalities. For example, a student may be motivated when he is subjected to a challenge while another may be motivated through the competition
by comparing their performance with that of their colleagues. Intrinsic motivation help the students be self motivated thus have the self drive to improve
on their performance.
Above all, an educator understands that students have different skills and abilities and that their growth also varies. To bring all students at par, the
educator employs different strategies of motivation. These strategies include the use of technology, visual aids, critical thinking questions, use of
rewards and making the students know that what they are learning is what happens in the real world. The use of technology like the computer and the
internet give students access to more information at a shorter period than they would have if they were to depend on books and lecture notes. In critical
thinking there is no right or wrong question. Critical thinking allow individuals to express themselves thus eliminating the possibility of them
mastering facts that they have been taught in class.
Conclusion:
An effective educator understands the principles of effective education by taking care of all aspects of the content to be covered, the student and the
educator themselves. The educator should be

I am the instructor of a kindergarten classroom here at Bandini Elementary school.
My students are between the ranges of five and six years of age. The subject in which I will be teaching my students will be music and dance
performance. Previously I have just taught the basic of music and dancing but I have been observing my students and notice that many have a yearning
desire for the different types of music and dance styles that are related no their cultures and the different cultures of the world. I am looking to bring the

"Most of the impact of culture is subconscious: We don 't really know why we want to become a teacher, why we enjoy certain kinds of music, and
where the characteristics come from that we use when we choose a mate. Culture largely influences all of these traits
(Hall, 1976a, 1977). We also know that these cultural contexts are continually changing and that each individual processes membership in various
cultural groups differently (Wardle, F., 2013)."
Music has been placed in the curriculum of many schools but dance has not and I want to change that beginning with my students. Creativity is needed
and in dance and music there is always creativity involved. By having my students perform music and dance from different cultures it will allow them
to work together and be creative. The students will need access to videos, different instruments that are played by different cultures. We will be
providing learning through the art of music and dance. This also allows the students to express themselves in an emotional and physical way.
As my students get more comfortable with performing we would like to take them to different schools to perform. Also making this not just a
classroom project but move it to be an activity for the children for after school and eventually to where other students from other schools can join and
they can put on a performance all together. By bringing in teachers from different schools it helps to teach in different leaning styles

A Term Debate Over The World Essay
A word coined in 1899 by a Swedish professor has come a long way, and has meant different things to different groups of people. (Dueck, C.) I find
it hard to believe that when Rudolf Kjellen came up with the word geopolitics, that he had any idea on how the idea of his new word would be used
over the next century. While the word holds meaning, it is the ideas that keep pushing this word into the forefront. With the era of establishedgeopolitics
, the ideas are more towards dominance, and space. While at the same time both state and individuals are pursuing collective interests. This came out as
a long–term debate over the importance of land and sea power. The offshore interests lead to a development of military technology, intercontinental
missiles, submarines, and the like. Things like this would help push the U.S.A. into a "world police" status as the world moved into WWII. Which kept
it going into conflicts such as Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
As an English geographer, and politician, Halford Mackinder, underestimated the capabilities that investing in sea powers, and marine military
technology would have he and others still had an important in put into the other military importance of land technology, I.E. the steam engine and how
it opened Eurasia. This all goes into the thoughts and actions that make up geopolitics at that time in history. We see the absence of a single global
hegemony, with an elevation to racial importance's, or better a lack thereof.

Is Google Making Us Stupid?

Rhetorical Analysis Essay: "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" Nicholas Carr's article on The Atlantic asks us to question what effect the Internet has on
our brains. At the time this article was written, the Internet was becoming more and more apart of our daily routine as many find themselves using it
for work purposes or simply for leisure. Carr, as a seemingly literary type himself, says, "Computers are changing the normal thinking process" causing
not only him but also many others to struggle reading. Nicholas Carr wrote this article to bring to attention the webs effect on our mind and how it has
turned us into page skimmers and information decoders who can no longer focus on reading a piece in its entirety. In "Is Google Making us Stupid?"
published on to The Atlantic's issue in July/August of 2008, Carr, through emotional, and logical appeals, imagery and structure, successfully crafts his
argument on the drifting concentration due to computers and internet use. In the opening paragraph of his essay Car alludes to a sci–fi movie 2001:
Space Odyssey, using this movie as a metaphor for how the Internet and computers might be shaping our thinking. This is an appeal to the reader's
emotions (pathos). In this scene as Carr describes, Hal the computer begins to malfunction, which almost causes the astronaut Dave Bowman to be led
to his death. Bowman then starts to disconnect the machines circuits,

Creative Media Lecture : A Classroom Environment
One of the main objectives working as Creative Media lecture is to create a classroom environment that is conducive towards learning while still
fostering student creativity. This is balancing act and one which I have been continuously developing since starting in Further Education teaching over
a year and a half ago.
Sir Ken Robinson (2006) argues that our educational systems "stigmatise mistakes" and students have "become frightened of being wrong." He goes
on to argue that our schools are killing creativity as students are less likely to take a chance with an answer out of fear of being wrong and instead
provide a safer answer, therefore killing the creative thought process. This argument is summarised as "if you 're not prepared to be... Show more

Secondly it will discuss how I have gained a deepened understanding of this aspect and finally it will conclude with my own opinions stating my
learning on the topic.
Aspect of teaching to be addressed
Petty (2009, p. 162) discusses that teacher talk takes up 60% of most lessons and that it is a convenient method as little preparation or resources are
required. This traditional teaching method usually measures student success on how well they recall information. The focus is on reproducing one
correct answer and this does little in the way of developing student's ability to question and investigate a topic themselves. However, the Inquiry Based
Learning (IBL) approach is more dynamic than this traditional method as it activity involves the students in their own learning. Rather than students
learning passively from the teacher and remembering facts they instead construct their own understanding and knowledge. Students develop a deeper
understanding and become better critical and creative thinkers. Through personal reflection I began to realise that I was not giving my own students
the opportunity to take ownership of their learning. Therefore it is this aspect of my teaching that I would like to develop to help facilitate a more open
IBL approach. Dewey's (1998) Constructive Theory argues that people construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world through
experiences and then reflect on them.

What is Professional Skepticism?
An attitude that includes a questioning mind and a critical assessment of audit evidence. The auditor should not assume whether they relate to

Without standards, it'd be harder to tell whether a student is making adequate educational progress. While it sounds as if there are numerous standards

The New Geopolitics Of Energy Essay
Carlos Pascual, The New Geopolitics of Energy, Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University, September 2015, 37 pp.
Article Synopsis: "The new Geopolitics of Energy" is an overall synopsis of how energy is linked to geopolitics, and how the United States has
emerged over the past decade as a major hydrocarbon producer and exporter, which has resulted in the changing the nations posture globally. Of note,
Pascual highlights the point that the U.S. has found a new borne power that it can wield geopolitically, and can even further its international
objectives. However, it must wield that control very carefully and with finesse, because if done poorly could have far reaching ramifications.
Managing this power will not be easy and may take some formidable resources, and the U.S. is not well versed in the unique way that OPEC and the
major oil producing nations conduct business. He stresses that energy markets and foreign policy are not static and that the U.S. has to fully understand
the intricacies of both.
The article is broken into three sections. Part one of the paper addresses the fundamentally new foundations for global oil and gas supplies that stem
from the unconventional energy revolution in the United States. This was accomplished by employing new technologies that combine horizontal
drilling with hydraulic fracturing, also known as "fracking" to release oil and gas from the layers of shale and new cost reducing technologies. This

Classroom Contexts And Strategies For Reading And Writing
Reading and writing across the curriculum
Classroom contexts and strategies for reading and writing Creating a classroom atmosphere that promotes literacy will enable English language learners
(ELLs) to use reading and writing in English as a learning tool. The first step in promoting literacy within the classroom context is to teach students
how to process different and increasingly difficult types of texts. Authors/educators Suzanne Peregoy and Owen Boyle suggest the following tacks:
establish a purpose for reading (whether efferent or aesthetic), teach text structure, focus on metacognition, and match students with appropriate reading
materials (2008). These criteria are potentially daunting, but fortunately the authors help us with some great pre–reading, during reading, and
post–reading strategies to make these necessary goals become realities. For pre–reading, the best starting strategy is to be upfront and clear with
students about their purpose for reading: tell them why they're reading the text and what they'll be expected to do with the information afterward.
Otherwise, students are far more likely to read the words without making meaning, and promptly forget what they have just read (Peregoy & Boyle,
2008). Films and field trips are two other fun and useful strategies for building background knowledge prior to reading. The schema and vocabulary
support help to facilitate English learning in a way which promotes content knowledge, as well. During

The Importance Of A More Effective Type Of Teacher...
Danielson's main purpose in writing the article is to explain the need for a more effective type of teacher evaluation system. She wants to describe
the weaknesses of the checklist type of teacher evaluations that has been used as the norm in the past. Danielson describes a more effective form of
teacher evaluation that will be useful for the administrator and also the teacher. Teacher evaluations are very critical in decision making for schools
because this is a way for them to credibly show the school board that they have highly effective teachers and at the same time allow those highly
effective teachers an opportunity to grow and learn in the situation. Danielson suggests that in the past administrators have been more worried about the
decision making process and being able to give evidence that the teachers they have hired are doing an high quality job.
Danielson describes two main reasons why we should evaluate teaching including making sure that you have high quality teaching and for professional
development. She makes the point that these two reasons are not able to be met by the old method of checklist evaluation. For a teacher evaluation to
be effective and useful they need to be able to meet both types of criteria including evaluating high level teaching and professional development.
Danielson explains that when thinking about the criteria of evaluating high level teaching that there are important parts of the process that creates a
valid evaluation process.

According to the Threat Interpretation Model proposed by Todd et al. (2015) recently, the degree of perceived threat of pain has an impact on whether
an individual will demonstrate cognitive bias towards the stimuli. The association between perceived threat and cognitive bias is mediated by sustained
attention. When threat is in medium level, chronic pain patients have difficult disengaging from pain–related stimuli while healthy individuals can
disengage quickly in order to maintain positive mood. However, when the level of threat is either very low or very high, chronic pain patients tend to
avoid pain–related stimuli, as proposed by fear–avoidant models (Todd et al., 2015). In the current study, pre–experiment ratings showed that
ambiguous images were much less arousing than pain–related images. It is possible that lack of threat in ambiguous images precluded observable
interpretation bias in chronic pain patients. Secondly, priori power calculation showed a sample size of 52 was needed to reach a power of 0.8 with
a large effect size. However, only 42 participants were successfully recruited, which reduced the power of the current study. However, previous studies
with similar sample sizes (Pincus et al., 1996) found evidence of cognitive biases in chronic pain patients. On the other hand, we assumed a large effect

Which Comes First Geography Or Politics
John Van Den Anker
Essay Question #2
Geography or Politics: Which Comes First?
On a November 6th meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Abe, the United States President Donald Trump mentioned that he "never knew we had so
many countries" before he became president of the U.S. This humorous display of obliviousness serves as a public continuation of the United States'
proud neglect of geography outside its borders resulting from the lack of geography in public education. U.S. students show mediocre performance in
international math, science, and reading tests; however, videos and articles describing episodes where U.S. citizens demonstrate an astute lack of
geographical knowledge populate global media. This phenomenon accentuates the negative foreign perception of the U.S.' self–centeredness and
ignorance. Contrasting the U.S. approach, Russian educators and policymakers believe that geography is a vital part of education. In 2017, Putin
created a day honoring geography teachers and has stated that geography is the foundation upon which patriotism can be fostered. , Overall, the
Russian educational system produces slightly lower test scores in science and reading than the U.S.; however, in math, scores are significantly better.
Given the educational issues in both countries, the stark contrast between the approach of Trump and Putin to geography shows that the U.S. and Russia
see geography at different levels of importance in the educational systems of their respective

Skepticism About The External World
Skepticism about the external world is one of the most widely discussed arguments in the history of philosophy. Barry Stroud defines skepticism as the
idea that we cannot have knowledge about the external world (Stroud, page 1). This conclusion is the result of Rene Descartes' Dream Argument and
has been a topic of discussion ever since. No matter how we attack the argument, it seems that we inevitably arrive at skepticism. In this paper, I will
argue that the skeptical conclusion is true and why it seems to be compelling as a necessary condition for knowledge. I will describe the Dream
Argument and take a look at Moore's promising response to the conclusion as an inconsistent proof. In the end, Moore's argument for evidence of an
external world will fail to disprove the skeptical conclusion due to its lack of justified belief. Although I am intuitively inclined to deny the skeptical
argument, I cannot logically do so but will argue against full–blown skepticism and explain how mild skepticism is a more approachable route to
knowledge. In our everyday conversation, we do not generally question the validity of small claims that we make during normal interactions. In
Meditation 1, Descartes decides that it is the right time to reevaluate the foundation of knowledge that he will rest his life upon from that point forward.
He puts in question the things that he thinks he knows for certain. He acknowledges that everything he knows has been perceived from the senses or

How Leadership And Attitude Go Together

  • 1. How Leadership And Attitude Go Together How Leadership and Attitude Go Together According to Merriam–Webster Dictionary (2014) attitude is a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person's behavior" (pg. 1). Normally, when someone thinks of communication, it's in the verbal form. But what about communications in the nonverbal form, for example one's mood? Is it a possibility if a leader comes to work with a negative attitude that it can be damaging to the whole team? It is imperative to make sure that leaders understand that coming to work in a positive mood is crucial. A negative mood could be damaging to the whole team, one person's mood could change morale, and there is also critical thinking that goes into understanding why. Leaders and Attitude A leader's mood can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2012). Employees will be more willing to give all they've got to the job because they are also satisfied with the environment. Negative attitudes can have consequences on input and drive of each team member (Volmer, J, 2012). The scholarly article by Volmer, J. addresses the issue of why it is so crucial to come to work with a positive attitude. If leaders don't, it can have a domino effect of bad outcomes for the organization, one's self, and followers. This was my first time using the school library to find a scholarly article on my topic. The key words I used were leadership and communication as well as attitude. I did not find an article right away and realized I needed to be more specific in my search. Just because the article may contain my key words doesn't mean it's on the subject I wanted. Instead, what I decided to do was to find an article that had leadership and communication in the subject heading and attitude as the keyword. When looking for a journal article there are characteristics to look for. Most journal articles are plain, meaning that they are black and white and do not have advertisements for nonrelated produtcts. More importantly, other peers that are knowledgeable in the same areas have reviewed the article (CSU–Global, n.d). Because there is research that is being conducted it could be lengthy with all the explanation, tables, and/or graphs (CSU–Global, n.d). Make sure that at the end there is some sort of reference information. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Glass Wall : The International Border The Glass Wall : The International Border Most people might have seen some stories in the news through various media about illegal immigrants and refugees trying to get into several European countries due to the terror of ISIS. Nowadays the nations throughout the world tend to become much more polarized when it comes to the policy about the refugees and national border. One nation claims a wider range of engagement policy, emphasizing globalization, and in contrast, another insists to keep their own interests intact through regionalization. Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, belongs to the former faction, who welcomes globalization, while Donald Trump, a well–known U.S. presidential candidate, is in the latter camp, who advocates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is practically impossible to totally block the flow. The national border in the traditional sense is now arguably obsolete when we consider global economy and morality of people as global citizens. Some people, regardless of their will, are born in under economically a very poor condition, or in a place where a civil war is going on. For them, the regionalization by national borders is like a huge prison or even a death sentence. Still many countries prohibits people escaping from poverty or a war in their own counrty entering their territories through the borders. No politician suggest a total and immediate dissolution of national borders and it seems practically impossible to do it any time soon. However, there have been periods in history when national border was practically open for newcomers. In the 1850s, many people flooded into Australia for Gold, and in the 1900s, people came to the United States from Europe to find new chances. In these two specific cases, the borders were completely open for everyone. Anyone from anywhere in the world could come, and make a new home there. At the time, the U.S. and Australian government were trying to attract more settlers to pioneer and develop their vast territories and wanted more workforce. They could accomplish great economic developments by the immigrants. They show one potentianl benefit of opening the national border. Now, in many developed countries, graying population is one ... • 3. Is Google Making Us Stupid? What was once filled with intricate plots, deep narrative, and creative thinking, is now replaced . . . wait . . . what were we talking about? Let me Google the answer really quick. Oh, too bad; the article is so long, I don't want to read it all. I'll just skim the text and hopefully we can piece something together. This scene can be played out in virtually anyone's life nowadays. But, why? Why can one's attention span be so short? Is this dangerous? Summary Nicholas Carr, Harvard alumni and member of Encyclopedia Britannica's editorial board of advisors, questioned the effects of search engines on our minds in his article to The Atlantic entitled, "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" claiming that the use of search engines causes a loss of the ability to deeply read and as therefore causes our minds to lose the ability to process information. He used personal stories to depict the apparent change in his and others ' minds from having the ability to "read deeply," to habitually skimming over the text in an effort to hastily extract information. Specifically targeting the leaders of the Google search engine – whom he said believe that, "Ambiguity is not an opening for insight but a bug to be fixed," – he related several causal reasons as to why the engines affect our minds negatively. He used a study on online research habits from the University College London to stress the point that people conducting research tend to read "no more than one or two pages of an article or book ... (1994). Teaching self–direction to enhance children's thinking in physical science. Journal of Educational Research, 88(1), 15. This article focused on the constant debate concerning the conditions in which students develop the skill of thinking critically. Being able to use critical thinking requires knowledge of facts and concepts about the subject matter. I found this article interesting because I think it is important that students develop critical thinking skills. Most scholarly articles tend to have an abstract that summarizes the papers entirety. Due to this this article is considered scholarly. Fang, Z., & Wei, Y. (2010). Improving Middle School Students' Science Literacy through Reading Infusion. Developing New And Innovative Programs For Educators As the world become more and more interconnected, as well as dependent on technology, it has become increasingly clear that educators need to make sure they teach their students the proper skills to be active participants in the world around them. Seeing the potential pitfalls of students not being able to meet the skills of tomorrow, some organizations and groups have set about lobby for jus this type of educational reforms. One of the leaders of developing new and innovative programs for educators is the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, known better as the ASCD. Interpersonal skills are a life skill that are used every day in our interactions with other people, either individually or in a group. Those that work on developing their interpersonal skills are not successful in their professional life, but they are also successful in their personal lives as well. The ASCD is not the only group lobbying for students to be taught with 21st century skills. Another important group would be the National Education Association. The NEA, similar to the ASCD, has broken down their four main talking points into what they refer as "The Four Cs". They are critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Similar to the ASCD in some respects, the NEA changes it up and directly states the need for creativity as a desired 21st century skill. Another group, which so happens to be the one I found the most agreeable with in regards to a proper 21st century skill, is the Partnership for 21st Century Learning. What I personally found so interesting about P21 was how they broke down their desired 21st century skills into easily digestible units and spelled exactly the need for teaching these to students. For example, one of the pillars of the P21 guidelines was the idea of Civic Literacy. As a future Social Studies educators, I think it's incredibly important that all students are instilled with a certain degree of understanding about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Research Study On Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd ) According to Purdue Owl, a research paper is defined as "the culmination and final product of an involved process of research, critical thinking, source evaluation, organization, and composition." The preliminary and most important step of writing a research paper is, unsurprisingly, the research itself as it provides the writer the essential information to create the paper. In the past, collecting information required hours of pulling information from journals and books that had to be first evaluated for credibility based on the author or organization that published the source. However, the emergence of the Internet now allows users to easily obtain information from multiple resources at a time with. With an abundance of information... One important factor when determining the initial credibility of a web resource is that it is written by a credible and well–informed author. The material on ASD was written by the CDC, a federal agency, as well as the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD), a subdivision within the CDC. The domain, ".gov", implies that this website is government–operated. As a government–funded entity, the CDC has top professionals within each group that do extensive research and data collection on multiple medical issues and topics. A nurse that progresses adequately can transition into a leadership role within their organization. Organizational transition can be viewed on a broad scale. This type of transition occurs around us in a social, political or economical setting. This can include changes in procedures and practices (Schumacher & Meleis, 1994, p.121). A true leader can adapt to change and convince others to do so as well. In a medical setting, change is always occurring. There is constant research and discoveries being made to help improve the quality of life. An organization must be aware of new findings and implement the necessary policies that will put the patient's best interests first. Again, we can compare organizational transition to the program outcomes. A nurse must be able to use informatics and interdisciplinary collaboration. A nurse must be able to use the necessary resources to advance his or her knowledge and communicate well with others to improve oneself. These are the qualities of an effective leader. The purpose of obtaining these qualities is to reach a common goal; provide the best care for the patient. I believe that having a genuine nurse client relationship is essential to providing quality care. • 11. (For examples, see Dodds and Sidaway 292, 2004 and Colls 238–239, 2002 as cited in Dodds and Sidaway 293, 2004 and Holmes and Yoshihara 25, 2005). In truth, in almost every respect, Mahan's and Mackinder's views are complementary. While Mahan does emphasize the importance of sea power to a nation's economic prosperity and security, his passionate insight is a far cry from any assertion against the importance of land power. Conversely, Mackinder's insights focus quite extensively on the potential for a country to develop a powerful land force on the core of the Eurasian landmass, but again we see throughout his writing the underlying assumption of the importance of sea power. Both men agreed on so many salient points that it is far better to read their works as a whole and thereby glean the collective wisdom of their perspectives, than to analyze them separately as two opposing schools of thought. In this way, one can see that their complementary insights are greater than the sum of their individual works. There are a few scholars that recognize this unfortunate trend of depicting a false land power vs. sea power debate. Jon Sumida is one who acknowledges that the Mahan texts are often ... Literally, he redefined himself as his son; metaphorically, he redesigned himself as the culmination of the experiences of the first four decades of his life. Torn between his own unsteady conscience and the strident, crippling strains of Nazi propaganda, Erikson struggled to identify with his own notion of himself. This same dichotomy – the notion of a struggle between the inner self that one conceives, and the self–thrust upon us by the world – is the very fight that Turkle argues is necessary for the emergence of a purposeful, mature self. Leadership Theory And Application ( Ol 400 ) Mid Term Exam Leadership Theory and Application (OL 400) Mid–Term Exam Jesus Cabral Brandman University Is leadership more imperative than management? First, let's appreciate what a leader and a manager are or do. According to (Daft, 2015), leadership is an influence relationship among leaders and followers who intend real changes and outcomes that reflect their shared purposes (p. 5). Therefore, a leader enjoys a high degree of influence and soft skills and appeals largely to the intrinsic needs of their followers, subsequently the extrinsic needs of their followers come as a result of their work. Some examples of non–business leaders have been great leaders such as General Patton, Malcom X, Deli Lama, Mother Teresa. There have also been well known bad intentioned leaders. All these leaders have appealed to the needs of their followers through intention, change, shared purpose and influence. Bad intentioned leaders such as Charles Manson, Hitler, Reverend Jim Jones and David Koresh to name a few have created change through perceived good intentions and grew their influence over their followers by committing them to a shared purpose, or by vision of defeating a common enemy / foe. When an athlete is fresh, task–relevant thinking should be limited to tactical and decision–making content (e.g., anticipation, recognition of relevant cues) and general capacity features such as smoothness, length, evenness, rhythm, etc. The detailed technique features of physical actions should be left to the automatic neuromuscular patterns that have been developed through training. However, at the onset of the next performance stage, which is usually signaled by the first hint of fatigue, it is necessary to begin to concentrate on specific, detailed technique thoughts along with other task–relevant items. This is required to avoid any accumulated fatigue causing a loss in technique efficiency. Additionally, I will provide my opinion on which is the strongest argument for speciesism and why I still disagree with it. Speciesism is the belief that humans are inherently superior to all other animals, solely based on their species membership. This widely held belief is used to justify the blatant discrimination of nonhuman animals, resulting in a lack of moral rights and the exploitation of defenseless beings. This view, that humans are of special moral status, is constantly attempted to be rationalized in various ways. One such defense is that we are not morally wrong to prioritize our needs ... Through the moral individualism reasoning, exploiting a rat, which is unable to display a reasonable level of intelligence or morality, would not be considered as cruel as exploiting an ape that is capable of showing some forms of cognitive reasoning. Moral Individualism places "a requirement on the basis of which what must be taken into account in the assignment of moral status are the organisms' own attributes, and not the classes to which organisms are ascribed" (75). Although moral individualism seems perfectly reasonable, the changeover from today's common speciesist ideology proves hard to overcome due to the long longstanding speciesist philosophical condition. In my opinion, the strongest pro–speciesism argument is the one that attempts to solve the strongest anti–speciesism argument, the argument that defeats virtually all other speciesist reasoning. Carl Cohen's statement in defense of speciesism, "what humans retain when disabled, animals never had" (77), offers a reasonable response to moral individualism's favourite case, the argument from marginal cases. The argument from marginal cases logically explains the hypocrisy we currently have when treating nonhumans as if they deserve no moral consideration in the slightest. • 29. A Term Debate Over The World Essay A word coined in 1899 by a Swedish professor has come a long way, and has meant different things to different groups of people. (Dueck, C.) I find it hard to believe that when Rudolf Kjellen came up with the word geopolitics, that he had any idea on how the idea of his new word would be used over the next century. While the word holds meaning, it is the ideas that keep pushing this word into the forefront. With the era of establishedgeopolitics , the ideas are more towards dominance, and space. While at the same time both state and individuals are pursuing collective interests. This came out as a long–term debate over the importance of land and sea power. The offshore interests lead to a development of military technology, intercontinental missiles, submarines, and the like. Things like this would help push the U.S.A. into a "world police" status as the world moved into WWII. Which kept it going into conflicts such as Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. As an English geographer, and politician, Halford Mackinder, underestimated the capabilities that investing in sea powers, and marine military technology would have he and others still had an important in put into the other military importance of land technology, I.E. the steam engine and how it opened Eurasia. This all goes into the thoughts and actions that make up geopolitics at that time in history. We see the absence of a single global hegemony, with an elevation to racial importance's, or better a lack thereof. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Is Google Making Us Stupid? Elizabeth Fitzgerald Professor Elizabeth Rogers English 302 September 13, 2015 Rhetorical Analysis Essay: "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" Nicholas Carr's article on The Atlantic asks us to question what effect the Internet has on our brains. At the time this article was written, the Internet was becoming more and more apart of our daily routine as many find themselves using it for work purposes or simply for leisure. Carr, as a seemingly literary type himself, says, "Computers are changing the normal thinking process" causing not only him but also many others to struggle reading. Nicholas Carr wrote this article to bring to attention the webs effect on our mind and how it has turned us into page skimmers and information decoders who can no longer focus on reading a piece in its entirety. In "Is Google Making us Stupid?" published on to The Atlantic's issue in July/August of 2008, Carr, through emotional, and logical appeals, imagery and structure, successfully crafts his argument on the drifting concentration due to computers and internet use. In the opening paragraph of his essay Car alludes to a sci–fi movie 2001: Space Odyssey, using this movie as a metaphor for how the Internet and computers might be shaping our thinking. This is an appeal to the reader's emotions (pathos). In this scene as Carr describes, Hal the computer begins to malfunction, which almost causes the astronaut Dave Bowman to be led to his death. Bowman then starts to disconnect the machines circuits, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Creative Media Lecture : A Classroom Environment One of the main objectives working as Creative Media lecture is to create a classroom environment that is conducive towards learning while still fostering student creativity. This is balancing act and one which I have been continuously developing since starting in Further Education teaching over a year and a half ago. Sir Ken Robinson (2006) argues that our educational systems "stigmatise mistakes" and students have "become frightened of being wrong." He goes on to argue that our schools are killing creativity as students are less likely to take a chance with an answer out of fear of being wrong and instead provide a safer answer, therefore killing the creative thought process. This argument is summarised as "if you 're not prepared to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly it will discuss how I have gained a deepened understanding of this aspect and finally it will conclude with my own opinions stating my learning on the topic. Aspect of teaching to be addressed Petty (2009, p. 162) discusses that teacher talk takes up 60% of most lessons and that it is a convenient method as little preparation or resources are required. This traditional teaching method usually measures student success on how well they recall information. The focus is on reproducing one correct answer and this does little in the way of developing student's ability to question and investigate a topic themselves. However, the Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) approach is more dynamic than this traditional method as it activity involves the students in their own learning. Rather than students learning passively from the teacher and remembering facts they instead construct their own understanding and knowledge. Students develop a deeper understanding and become better critical and creative thinkers. Through personal reflection I began to realise that I was not giving my own students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning. Therefore it is this aspect of my teaching that I would like to develop to help facilitate a more open IBL approach. Dewey's (1998) Constructive Theory argues that people construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world through experiences and then reflect on them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The New Geopolitics Of Energy Essay Carlos Pascual, The New Geopolitics of Energy, Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University, September 2015, 37 pp. Article Synopsis: "The new Geopolitics of Energy" is an overall synopsis of how energy is linked to geopolitics, and how the United States has emerged over the past decade as a major hydrocarbon producer and exporter, which has resulted in the changing the nations posture globally. Of note, Pascual highlights the point that the U.S. has found a new borne power that it can wield geopolitically, and can even further its international objectives. However, it must wield that control very carefully and with finesse, because if done poorly could have far reaching ramifications. Managing this power will not be easy and may take some formidable resources, and the U.S. is not well versed in the unique way that OPEC and the major oil producing nations conduct business. He stresses that energy markets and foreign policy are not static and that the U.S. has to fully understand the intricacies of both. The article is broken into three sections. Part one of the paper addresses the fundamentally new foundations for global oil and gas supplies that stem from the unconventional energy revolution in the United States. This was accomplished by employing new technologies that combine horizontal drilling with hydraulic fracturing, also known as "fracking" to release oil and gas from the layers of shale and new cost reducing technologies. This increased oil production in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Classroom Contexts And Strategies For Reading And Writing Reading and writing across the curriculum Classroom contexts and strategies for reading and writing Creating a classroom atmosphere that promotes literacy will enable English language learners (ELLs) to use reading and writing in English as a learning tool. The first step in promoting literacy within the classroom context is to teach students how to process different and increasingly difficult types of texts. Authors/educators Suzanne Peregoy and Owen Boyle suggest the following tacks: establish a purpose for reading (whether efferent or aesthetic), teach text structure, focus on metacognition, and match students with appropriate reading materials (2008). These criteria are potentially daunting, but fortunately the authors help us with some great pre–reading, during reading, and post–reading strategies to make these necessary goals become realities. For pre–reading, the best starting strategy is to be upfront and clear with students about their purpose for reading: tell them why they're reading the text and what they'll be expected to do with the information afterward. Otherwise, students are far more likely to read the words without making meaning, and promptly forget what they have just read (Peregoy & Boyle, 2008). Films and field trips are two other fun and useful strategies for building background knowledge prior to reading. The schema and vocabulary support help to facilitate English learning in a way which promotes content knowledge, as well. During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Importance Of A More Effective Type Of Teacher... Danielson's main purpose in writing the article is to explain the need for a more effective type of teacher evaluation system. She wants to describe the weaknesses of the checklist type of teacher evaluations that has been used as the norm in the past. Danielson describes a more effective form of teacher evaluation that will be useful for the administrator and also the teacher. Teacher evaluations are very critical in decision making for schools because this is a way for them to credibly show the school board that they have highly effective teachers and at the same time allow those highly effective teachers an opportunity to grow and learn in the situation. Danielson suggests that in the past administrators have been more worried about the decision making process and being able to give evidence that the teachers they have hired are doing an high quality job. Danielson describes two main reasons why we should evaluate teaching including making sure that you have high quality teaching and for professional development. She makes the point that these two reasons are not able to be met by the old method of checklist evaluation. For a teacher evaluation to be effective and useful they need to be able to meet both types of criteria including evaluating high level teaching and professional development. Danielson explains that when thinking about the criteria of evaluating high level teaching that there are important parts of the process that creates a valid evaluation process. ... • 36. Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain : Interpretation Bias... The current study was designed to explore whether people with chronic musculoskeletal pain show interpretation bias favoring pain–related interpretations of ambiguous real–world images with both possible pain–related and non–pain related interpretations. The results did not support the hypothesis that chronic musculoskeletal pain participants, compared to healthy control participants, would interpret ambiguous real–world images in pain–related ways. No significant effects were found for written responses or endorsement of statements. Interpretation bias has been found in studies using homophone, homonym, and the word–stem completion task. For example, Pincus et al. (1994) found individuals with chronic pain made more pain–related ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Threat Interpretation Model proposed by Todd et al. (2015) recently, the degree of perceived threat of pain has an impact on whether an individual will demonstrate cognitive bias towards the stimuli. The association between perceived threat and cognitive bias is mediated by sustained attention. When threat is in medium level, chronic pain patients have difficult disengaging from pain–related stimuli while healthy individuals can disengage quickly in order to maintain positive mood. However, when the level of threat is either very low or very high, chronic pain patients tend to avoid pain–related stimuli, as proposed by fear–avoidant models (Todd et al., 2015). In the current study, pre–experiment ratings showed that ambiguous images were much less arousing than pain–related images. It is possible that lack of threat in ambiguous images precluded observable interpretation bias in chronic pain patients. Secondly, priori power calculation showed a sample size of 52 was needed to reach a power of 0.8 with a large effect size. However, only 42 participants were successfully recruited, which reduced the power of the current study. However, previous studies with similar sample sizes (Pincus et al., 1996) found evidence of cognitive biases in chronic pain patients. On the other hand, we assumed a large effect size based on ... • 37. Which Comes First Geography Or Politics John Van Den Anker Essay Question #2 Geography or Politics: Which Comes First? On a November 6th meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Abe, the United States President Donald Trump mentioned that he "never knew we had so many countries" before he became president of the U.S. This humorous display of obliviousness serves as a public continuation of the United States' proud neglect of geography outside its borders resulting from the lack of geography in public education. U.S. students show mediocre performance in international math, science, and reading tests; however, videos and articles describing episodes where U.S. citizens demonstrate an astute lack of geographical knowledge populate global media. This phenomenon accentuates the negative foreign perception of the U.S.' self–centeredness and ignorance. Contrasting the U.S. approach, Russian educators and policymakers believe that geography is a vital part of education. In 2017, Putin created a day honoring geography teachers and has stated that geography is the foundation upon which patriotism can be fostered. , Overall, the Russian educational system produces slightly lower test scores in science and reading than the U.S.; however, in math, scores are significantly better. Given the educational issues in both countries, the stark contrast between the approach of Trump and Putin to geography shows that the U.S. and Russia see geography at different levels of importance in the educational systems of their respective ... • 41. Skepticism About The External World Skepticism about the external world is one of the most widely discussed arguments in the history of philosophy. Barry Stroud defines skepticism as the idea that we cannot have knowledge about the external world (Stroud, page 1). This conclusion is the result of Rene Descartes' Dream Argument and has been a topic of discussion ever since. No matter how we attack the argument, it seems that we inevitably arrive at skepticism. In this paper, I will argue that the skeptical conclusion is true and why it seems to be compelling as a necessary condition for knowledge. I will describe the Dream Argument and take a look at Moore's promising response to the conclusion as an inconsistent proof. In the end, Moore's argument for evidence of an external world will fail to disprove the skeptical conclusion due to its lack of justified belief. Although I am intuitively inclined to deny the skeptical argument, I cannot logically do so but will argue against full–blown skepticism and explain how mild skepticism is a more approachable route to knowledge. In our everyday conversation, we do not generally question the validity of small claims that we make during normal interactions. In Meditation 1, Descartes decides that it is the right time to reevaluate the foundation of knowledge that he will rest his life upon from that point forward. He puts in question the things that he thinks he knows for certain. He acknowledges that everything he knows has been perceived from the senses or through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
