2. Have your partner also stop you at any point they HEAR a problem in order to ask a question, clarify a point, or make a suggestion. Write down their questions or suggestions in a different color ink or a pencil on the paper.

3. Switch jobs and repeat.

4. Does the paper meet all of the requirements of the assignment? (If not, specify what the problem is)

5. Does it identify the appropriate audience of the advertisement? Who is the audience? Could they be more specific?

6. Does it include 2-3 examples to support that identification?

7. Does it have the proper formatting?

8. Does the introduction include an effective hook? If not, offer suggestions on a possible way to interest the readers or how to improve his/her existing hook to make it more effective.

9. Ask the author of the paper to identify his/her thesis statement.

10. Is the thesis specific enough?

11. Does it include WHAT, HOW, and WHY?

12. Ask any questions or offer any suggestions for the thesis statement.

13. Next, ask the author of the paper to identify his/her topic sentences.

14. Do they indicate what the main topic of each paragraph is going to be?

15. Do they connect back to the thesis statement?

16. Offer a suggestion for one topic sentence to make it more effective.

17. Do the body paragraphs include specific examples from the advertisement? (List the specific examples for each paragraph.) Are they weighted evenly?

18. Does each example support the thesis statement?

19. How is the paper organized?

20. Does each paragraph only discuss one main point/example?

21. Offer any suggestions for a better way to organize the paper. Say, for instance, would it be more effective to change the order of the examples? Why or why not?

22. Talk about the conclusion.

23. Does it do more than just summarize or restate what’s already been said?

24. Offer any suggestions on how it could be made more interesting and/or more effective at answering the “so what” question.

25. Do you see any major grammatical or spelling errors? Point out one example of each type that you see and offer a suggestion of how he/she might could fix the problem. (Look for errors with commas, spelling, apostrophes, hyphens, semi-colons, subject/verb agreement, pronoun/antecedent agreement, vague pronoun usage, and especially run-on sentences and sentence fragments.)
