2. Teacher:
Good morning, today I am going to show you
how to work out whether there is more, less
or the same number of yellow balls on each
card compared to another card.
Here is the cards that we be working with
today, can you see the balls?
Class:
Yes

3. Teacher:
Jack and Jill were playing a game together.
The game is who has ‘more’ balls, who has
‘less’ balls or do they the ‘same’ amount of
yellow balls.
In the first game Jack has 5 balls given to him.

4. Teacher:
Jill has no balls given to her.

5. Teacher:
Look at the cards on the board, close you
eyes and picture the cards on the board in
your head.
Open your eyes.
Who has ‘more’ balls?

6. Teacher:
Yes Jack has ‘more’ balls.
How did we know this?
We can see with our eyes that there are
‘more’ yellow balls on the blue cardboard.
Or, you may have counted the yellow balls.
Let’s count..
1 yellow ball.

7. Teacher:
2 yellow balls.

8. Teacher:
3 yellow balls.

9. Teacher:
4 yellow balls.

10. Teacher:
5 yellow balls on the blue cardboard.

11. Teacher:
And, Jill has no yellow balls on the cardboard.

12. Teacher:
So who had ‘more’ yellow balls?
So we can see with our eyes and also by
counting that Jack has ‘more’ yellow balls
than Jill.
And, Jill had ‘less’ yellow balls than Jack.

13. Teacher:
Jack now has 3 yellow balls given to him and Jill
has 3 yellow balls given to her.
Look at the cards on the board, close you eyes
and picture the cards on the board in your head.
Open your eyes.
Who has more yellow balls?
Jack and Jill both have the ‘same number’ of
yellow balls.
How did we know this?
Yes, we can see with our eyes that there are the
‘same’ yellow balls on each piece of cardboard.
Or, you may have counted the ‘same’ amount
yellow balls.

14. Teacher:
Let’s count, 1 yellow ball for Jack.

15. Teacher:
2 yellow balls.

16. Teacher:
3 yellow balls for Jack.

17. Teacher:
Jill had the ‘same’ amount of yellow balls,
let’s count.
1 yellow ball.

18. Teacher:
2 yellow balls.

19. Teacher:
3 yellow balls for Jill.

20. Teacher:
So we can see with our eyes and also by
counting that Jack and Jill had the ‘same’
number of yellow balls.
