Editor's Notes
Hi this is Dave Johnson. In this presentation I'm going to explain Activity 8, My Northcentral University success guide.
The purpose of this activity is for you to assemble your own personal Northcentral success guide, which is the signature assignment for this course. The time required for this activity can range between 11 to 15 hours. You are going to prepare a program resources, which is an annotated list of resources. You're going to create a personal success plan, which will contain a chart of skills, indication of the development of those skills, and goals to improve those skills. And finally, you’re going to create a motivation touchstone to remind you of your goals throughout your time here at North Central.
The graded assignment for this activity is a 4-6 page double-spaced paper containing the program resources and personal success plan, which I'll discuss in a moment. You also will create a motivation touchstone, which I'll also discuss in a moment. The deadline for this is midnight Arizona time on Sunday.
The program resources, which is a component of your 4-6 page paper will serve as a personal catalog of success tools you encountered in this course. You will look back over the seven previous activities and create a list of resources that you felt were important for your success. Now, these resources could include articles, websites, links, skill builders, tutorials, or any other material you gathered through your own searches. This list of resources should include the name of the resource, an explanation of how you plan to use it, and a disclosure where you can access it. You don't have to include every resource that you used in the previous seven activities, but you must include at least one or two key resources from each activity.
The other component of the 4-6 page paper that you going to write is a personal success plan. You are going to fill out a chart that you can download from the course room, and I'm displaying it in the slide here. The chart lists each skill that you’ve learned in this class, and next to each skill you will rate your success on a scale 1 to 3, with 1 as beginner, 2 as familiar, and 3 as master. Now for those skills that you rate yourself a beginner or familiar (a 1 or a 2), you need to write immediate and intermediate goals to improve those skills. Then, you need to note any additional resources or assistance that you may require. This chart can be updated throughout your education at the Northcentral.
Lastly, your assignment will require you to create what we call a motivation touchstone. This is some physical representation of your professional and educational goals that can remain visible to you, will keep you motivated throughout your education at North Central, and will keep your eyes on your ultimate goal of graduating. Now, this physical representation can be a video that you create, or a PowerPoint that you create, an audio file, a collage, a poem, a letter to yourself, or a saying or quote. It's up to you. You create something that will be meaningful to you and that you can post someplace to remind yourself.
Here are some tips to help you complete this assignment. Number one, make sure you spread out the work and give yourself sufficient time. Then, you're going to need to submit two files for grading. One file is your 4 to 6 page paper that will contain the program resources and personal success plan sections. The second file is the motivation touchstone that you create.
Now for the program resources, make sure that you include at least one or two key resources from each activity. For the personal success plan where you have rated yourself a 1 or 2, make sure that you write immediate and intermediate goals to improve those skills. Remember that a goal should include what, how to measure, and by when. Also remember to include any additional resources or assistance that you may need for each skill rated a one or two.
Member that your instructor has four days until Thursday to grade and give you feedback on your foundations work. Well, I look forward to receiving your assignment for Activity 8 and hope that it is meaningful to you and will be meaningful you to you in the future. In fact, I want to thank you for taking this class and hope that it has prepared you well to pursue your education here at Northcentral University and wish you all the success in reaching your goal of receiving a advanced degree.
