Transforming workplace
collaboration is a
business imperative
86%
of leaders cite lack of collaboration or ineffective communication top
reason for workplace failures
65%
of leaders agree that moving from hierarchical to team based
working is critical for their success in 2019, but only 7% say
they are ready
45%
of leaders have or are implementing web-based collaboration
solutions at scale in their companies
Enterprise Search Today
Why Enterprise Search Has Been Traditionally Hard?
Sparse link graph
Compared to web, very little linking across
different documents
Algorithms like PageRank and Static rank don’t
work well due to poor link graph
Documents lack SEO
(Search Engine
Optimization)
Limited incentive to create search engine-
friendly pages with useful titles, tags, etc.
Very little meta data
Tail-ish documents
and queries
A document is generally useful for
handful of people

Delve
• Global Office 365 Search engine.
• People follow others first before searching.
• Users only typically work on a dozen files at a time.
• Can see what colleagues are doing.
• Can create favourites and boards.
• Nothing needs to be configured.
Demo
Metadata
• Think of it like ‘tagging’
• You can have multiple metadata per item
• Can have a global hierarchy which is known as a taxonomy which can be implemented using
services like the Term Store
• Allows filtering and sorting of information in both a managed and ad-hoc way
• In the ‘old world’ the metadata was the folder in which the data lived and the path to that
folder. However, it could only live in a single location unless duplicated
