Project Management For Dummies
Project Management In his book, Project Management for Dummies (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.,
2013) Stanley E. Portny helps others recognize the basics of successful project management. He
provides the necessary information to plan and manage projects as well as providing important
guidelines to develop and use the information. Project management includes dealing with a variety
of people and tips are given to help identify and involve key players. This book navigates the
critical tools needed to support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, organizing and controlling.
The author of this book defines a project as simply a unique specific deliverable that meets a
specific purpose. Each project has three components which affect the others: specific scope,
schedule, and required resources. Specific scope is the desired results or product while the schedule
establishes beginning and ending dates for the project. Required resources are the number of people,
funds or other resources needed to complete the project.
Some projects may last only a few days while others could last for years. The author states that the
first step in managing a successful project is to develop a plan to produce the desired results on
time and within budget. Short projects which are thoroughly and realistically planned are most
likely to succeed. However, larger, more complex projects are more likely to encounter things that
don't work as planned. The greatest chance for success comes when

Writing is key in my classroom, even more so than reading. I do not want my students to read the
textbook word for word, I want them to use it as a guide, and use readable "Math for Dummies"
books if necessary. Writing on the other hand, is the end all be all for my class. They will write in
their notes, they will write on their homework, they will write on their quizzes and tests, etc. To
even show up to my classroom without a pencil is already off to a bad start for the day. To say that
writing is promoted in my classroom is an understatement. Although, there are other methods of
writing that I will incorporate in my classroom not discussed here but in Week 4 Discussion 2.

approach, allowing pure competition will drive down costs, and consequently this will allow more
people to buy affordable health insurance, but not everyone agrees with this notion, the opposition
believes that healthcare is a guarantee and not a responsibility, that is a right as a human being,
therefore the government through the peoples' representation should have a system in which
everybody should have free access to healthcare. To get free access the government has to use tax
money to pay for the program. People on the right views this as a

It was third grade, and I got the opportunity of a lifetime. I was going to get my very own short

happened very vividly. Picture me; a tiny, chubby, four–eyed dork with my "I Love Ponies" t–shirt. I
was sitting in class–– which, to be honest, was really quite boring, because I already knew how to
do all of my multiplication–– when a lady I had never seen before came in asking if she could speak

Write my own book and get it in my school library? That would be the coolest thing ever! Now
when I have to check out a book from the library every day to take home and read, I can just take

ingenious plan to get out of reading boring books my school had, and my lifelong (not very long,
so far) goal, both to be completed with one task. I was living the dream. For the next few weeks, I
stayed after school every day with a few other kids to make our published works happen. The first
few days were spent coming up with an idea for our books, and creating outlines for how we
would take the ideas out of our minds and onto the paper. I decided that I would write about a trip

Making mistakes is natural, and it helps educate those willing to learn from those mistakes. Good
executives make mistakes every week, but what makes them the best is how they learn from
those mistakes. Mr. Konrad is one of those successful executives. He acknowledged the mistakes
he made as a young businessman, which lead to the success of IKEA. Mr. Konrad once stated,
"Only those who sleep make no mistakes" (2011, pg 63). This quote introduced at the beginning
of the chapter helps show no one in the world is capable of being perfect, even if your Mr. Konrad

had made some unsuccessful business agreements which determined the future in the pen
industry. First, of course, comes the unsuccessful process of buying pens from an individual who
produced pens. They had agreed on a set price for the thousands of pens Mr. Konrad had ordered.
The price they agreed on was 2.50 kronor for each pen, kronor is the Swedish national currency.
When the two met, Mr. Konrad explained that the supplier had made a mistake in the production
of the pens (2011, pg 64). The supplier now was asking for 4 kronor. This increase in price was a

Racism For Dummies
How to deal with Racism for Dummies: AP Lit Edition With an ever growing and diversifying
population, race is a term that people have become more accustomed to. Many would say that as a
society, American citizens have taken steps to subdue and reduce racism. Others may say that the
government itself has adopted institutional policies to prevent racism. If such were to be true,
considering that those actions to fight racism have existed for at least a century, why is one not able
to see that those efforts to fight racism may be ineffective? Society for the past decades has built a
manner in which we assume that racism is wrong. Despite those efforts, hundreds of issues
concerning race continue occurring. Rather than taking perspective that racism is wrong, society
should have a more active focus on the population by providing education on how to respond

tangible impact towards racism. For decades, the racism was viewed along a motif that it is
wrongful. It is present in law, literature, arts, and simple morals. Many of those steps that society has
taken focuses upon highlighting the damage that racism causes to both an individual and society,
yet, controversial racial issues occur at an alarming rate. The first recorded major effort to subdue
racism was the 14th amendment, being approximately 150 years. Since then, this direction has
integrated into society in which people are taught that treating people differently according to race is

The purpose of his proposal is to provide inquiry and identify the best way to implement
fundamental plans to individuals who wish to build and run a small business in addition to the lack of

against cyber–attacks.
Figure 1: Map Display of international cyber–attacks. Introduction
In recent years, Cybercrime has increased radically and it is becoming more vital for people to
grant protection on their computers and data just as they do with anything else they deem needs to
be secured. The improved rate for the need of security also applies to conceptual institutes of small
businesses. Small businesses keep record of client, personal, product, and explicit company finance

businesses need an effective solution to defend their computer systems and data from

Uncertainty Reduction Theory Essay
The Uncertainty Reduction Theory states that before and during initial interactions between two
people, one's first instinct is to reduce uncertainty about the other through various methods. For
example, when you see someone you think you would like to know, you try and figure out what they
are like through various methods so you can control the conversation and steer it into a path that the
other person finds interesting. There are a few methods, or strategies, of figuring out what the other
person likes: passive, active, and interactive. In the passive strategy, you try to find out the other
person's interests through observation from afar. This happens without their knowledge, because
you're trying to figure out what they're like...show more content...
This happens most frequently in what is commonly referred to as "small talk." Since I am a rather
shy person, I don't generally use the active nor the interactive strategy of reducing uncertainty.
However, because I do spend most of my time online, the easiest way of finding out more
information about someone is through passive strategy. While most people do think it's a little
creepy to search for someone specifically, even more would agree that it would be creepy to start a
conversation with friends of a person you're searching about online. In real–life encounters, I still
generally use the passive strategy of observing people, mainly because my social skills are
less–than–adequate. From my non–experience, I can infer that each of the interpersonal encounters
have their benefits and drawbacks. The passive strategy does get you information about the person
you're looking for, but if it comes up how you got the information you know, it could severely
impact the potential relationship you could have with that person. The active strategy gives you
information by proxy, and also has the added bonus of getting to know the kind of people your
person socializes with, as well. Unfortunately, as previously stated, faulty information is easy to get
with this method, and it's possible the people you talk with will tell the person you want to know,
causing them to avoid you. And finally, the interactive strategy gives

Essay on The Everglades for Dummies
The best way to get people interested in a novel is to title it Skinny Dip . Even better, one of the
most effective ways to get people involved in Florida 's Everglades is by subtly making it the
setting for a novel full of murder, sex, mayhem, and lots of comedy. Carl Hiaasen's Skinny Dip is an
attractive read from the start. The title and the cover immediately call on the baser of human instinct.
They are catchy and promise readers entertainment. It is a perfect marketing scheme. Even if a
person were to see the novel but neglect to purchase it, there is a big chance that that person will
read the cover preview... "Chaz Perrone...the only marine scientist in the world who doesn't know

The Everglades in Hiaasen's novel is the core of the story. Many critics may argue that the novel
oversimplifies the Everglades situation, and it does. But what person, save an environmentalist, is
going to pick up a novel titled Everglades: a Complete History ? Not too many people want to pick
up the complete Microsoft handbook and read it in its entirety. Instead, they pick up the Microsoft
for Dummies guide and learn the basics. That is essentially what Skinny Dip is all about, the basics
of the Everglades . It exists, it is endangered, and it needs to be saved.
Hiaasen exposes the truth about the Everglades by interweaving it into the story's plot. Earl, the
big fat and hairy bodyguard, becomes the 'tool' essential to understanding the Everglades .
Because of Tool's overwhelming pain caused by a bullet wound, he becomes addicted to fentanyl.
In his quest for the patches of fentanyl, he visits hospices, "where the people are too sickly to
make a fuss". He steals from them, with no care whatsoever for their wellbeing, and regardless,
always goes back for more patches. In the same respect, Florida 's Everglades are like the hospice
patients, continually attacked, vandalized, and then ignored. Ultimately, the environment has no
voice and gives in without a fuss. If the environment were to have a voice and refuse to "part easily

Gun Control For Dummies
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." These powerful words of the 2nd amendment of "The
Constitution of the United States" have in recent times triggered some of the most controversial
discussions regarding gun control. The Second Amendment was added to our Constitution because
our founding fathers believed that the private ownership of guns was necessary for protection of our
liberties. This law is simple, to the point, and non negotiable; the gun control law is illegal under the
constitution and should never be allowed. I personally believe that our guns should not be taken
away from us.
If guns were outlawed, criminals would still...show more content...
And the right to have a gun has nothing to do with the right to murder. It seems today people
have recently abused their right to a gun. This has led to recent heart wrenching tragedies such as
school shootings, armed robberies, and other gun related crimes. These are the tragic stories we
typically hear about, although, you don't hear are the stories about citizens who have saved their
own life along with other fellow citizens lives because they have been in possession of a firearm at
the time they were attacked. Just because someone else abuses the right and inflicts harm when
someone else uses a gun does not mean I should be stripped of my right to self–defense. In one
article alone, there were 49 reported stories of incidences in 2015 were citizens were able to
defend themselves against their attacker because they were armed. There are many valid
arguments for gun control laws, if someone takes an object and uses it to cause harm on another
you could assume we clearly need stricter laws enforced on such objects. But with that argument,
why don't we just outlaw all cars and knifes. Each of these items can be, and are used to kill. With
this logic, pencils are to blame for all misspelled words. Recipes are to blame for all burnt meals.
Pharmacists are to blame for drug over doses. If someone is willing to take another life they will
make sure they find a way to do it. Banning

Part I Setting the Stage with Grant Basics Chapter one helped clarify grant terminology that I may

because I now have a better understanding of what certain grants are looking for and the grant
language that is needed. This chapter also helped me learn how to set up a plan for keeping track
of the grants I am working on and helped set up the process. The second chapter goes over how to

Some of these sites I have previewed and I think they will help me find grants that are available in

individuals. This chapter will probably not benefit my work at the Conservancy but it was
interesting to see the types of individual grants that are available and where to look for them. The
eighth chapter covers international grants and funding. I'm not sure while working for this chapter I
will use this information but once again it was useful to know that there are resources out there to
help with these types of grants if I ever need them.
Part III Playing by the rules of the Grants Game
Chapters nine and ten are chapters that will help me prepare and write what the reviewers of
government grants are looking for. Each of these chapters covered tips that helped me learn what
to look for while looking for grants. This information will help me know which grants are going to
be right or wrong for our organization based on the qualifications. It was interesting to read that
some grants have picky qualifications and long processes before even submitting a request; while
other grants have quick and easy forms to fill out. It also stressed that with grant writing it is
important to follow all rules and read all guidelines. If you miss something that the grant reviewer
wants you can lose your funding request. The eleventh chapter was interesting because

Vegetarianism for Dummies Essay
They say, "You are what you eat" and if making good food choices makes you a healthier and
happier person, why are healthy food trends seemingly misunderstood and becoming a thing of the
past? This semester I will be researching the advantages of choosing to obtain a vegetarian lifestyle
and why some individuals are making arguments that are extremely against the practice. This topic
is appropriate for a semester of sustained research because there are multiple viewpoints on the issue

diets, people who disapprove of the industry's animal treatment, and people who strongly feel that
there are extreme health risks and financial burdens that come...show more content...
(Wiki) The film for me shined light on the dark aspects of American food industries, influenced me
to do further research on the topic, and evidently considerably influenced my perspective of food.
While the vision of animal cruelty painted in the film ultimately made me decide to become a
practicing vegetarian, I would mainly blame my continued lifestyle choice on the benefits that I
experienced when I initially made the transition as well as the harsh realities of the unsanitary
procedures reveled in the film. Overall I would say, vegetarianism has made me a healthier person by
making me constantly aware of what I put into my body (a main reason that I believe the issue is
worth research), it has cured an esophageal health problem that I have been having since birth,
and best of all in an essence the lifestyle choice lifted a huge weight off my shoulders by giving
more energy, better physical health, and overall has made me a more confident person. Because of
this positive experience, I am an extreme advocate for the way of life, and this topic is particularly
compelling to me because I have a difficult time understanding the prejudices that make
vegetarianism a national controversy. In my research, I hope to gain greater insight on the health
deficiencies that align with vegetarianism and eventually crack the myth of strict dieting being
difficult to adhere to (especially for people with lower economic statuses or people on the run).

The Last Samurai Essay
"The Last Samurai" is a film centered around the idea of journeying physically, spiritually,
emotionally and mentally. We witness these journeys not only through observations of a character
going through a personal transformation but a whole culture around him who is likewise in turmoil.
This film allows us to join in on an adventure and journey of the character, the world he enters and
the people he meets.
The story is based on a time just after the Civil War, a time when the modern western world which
had just encroached upon the American West, condemning the Native American, began to engulf
traditional Japan as well. The purpose of this film is to give a voice to these people, to share in their

This idea of a physical journey is easily conveyed through the use of scenery. We get to witness the
extent of the physical journey by viewing the changing environment. This technique is something
that not only highlights the actual physical journey, but the extent of the changes that the protagonist
is going through in relation to his changing situations. This technique is achieved most effectively by
the camera shots used, in particular the use of cinematography and indeed panning.
Throughout the film we are taken on the heroic journey of the powerful character of Captain
Nathan Algren, a person who travels a great distance, literally and figuratively to find himself and
his values. Captain Algren emerges as a truly tormented figure, a man who has lost faith, an
extremely vulnerable figure, not your typical stock movie hero. He is a lost soul searching to find
his way. Edward Zwick allows you to witness this journey through his use of gradual development
throughout the film. As the character discovers, so do you and so on. You are therefore just that bit
closer personally to each of the characters, and their journey.

Basically what Medicaid does is expand covering about 133 percent of the population close to the

Government is subsidizing this by giving the states the money to pay for everyone under the

Acupuncture For Dummies: How, What, And Why?
Acupuncture For Dummies: How, What, and Why?
I'm sure everyone has heard of acupuncture at some point in his or her life. Maybe you have even
tried it to treat a sport or other injury, illness, or sickness. Do you actually know what it is and why
it is used – apart from having needles stuck into you to make you feel better? No? Well, keep
reading if you would like to understand the basics of acupuncture, why it is used, and how it is done.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine, which involves stimulating certain areas
of the body to release built up energy and pressure in order to treat illnesses or relieve pain.
Although it was developed thousands of years ago, it has stood the test of time and competes with
the best of today's modern medicine. Often it is used in conjunction with other treatments to
alleviate the side effects of prescription drugs or to provide more comfort to patients. For example,
it has become part of many cancer treatment programs as it helps reduce the nasty side effects of
chemotherapy. It can also help the patient deal with symptoms caused directly by the cancer, thereby
making their lives more comfortable and in turn speeding up their recovery....show more content...

keeps it healthy. If the flow of Qi is interrupted, then various illnesses and physical problems can

points under the skin, then the body will be able to return to

Writing Essays For Dummies

  • 1. Project Management For Dummies Project Management In his book, Project Management for Dummies (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2013) Stanley E. Portny helps others recognize the basics of successful project management. He provides the necessary information to plan and manage projects as well as providing important guidelines to develop and use the information. Project management includes dealing with a variety of people and tips are given to help identify and involve key players. This book navigates the critical tools needed to support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, organizing and controlling. The author of this book defines a project as simply a unique specific deliverable that meets a specific purpose. Each project has three components which affect the others: specific scope, schedule, and required resources. Specific scope is the desired results or product while the schedule establishes beginning and ending dates for the project. Required resources are the number of people, funds or other resources needed to complete the project. Some projects may last only a few days while others could last for years. The author states that the first step in managing a successful project is to develop a plan to produce the desired results on time and within budget. Short projects which are thoroughly and realistically planned are most likely to succeed. However, larger, more complex projects are more likely to encounter things that don't work as planned. The greatest chance for success comes when Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Writing is key in my classroom, even more so than reading. I do not want my students to read the textbook word for word, I want them to use it as a guide, and use readable "Math for Dummies" books if necessary. Writing on the other hand, is the end all be all for my class. They will write in their notes, they will write on their homework, they will write on their quizzes and tests, etc. To even show up to my classroom without a pencil is already off to a bad start for the day. To say that writing is promoted in my classroom is an understatement. Although, there are other methods of writing that I will incorporate in my classroom not discussed here but in Week 4 Discussion 2. • 3. The video title "Obamacare for dummies" narrated by Keith Hughes provide us with eight critical aspects of the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA), also known as the Obamacare. In beginning Hughes went back to a brief history to name other programs that created with a similar purpose as the ACA. Theodore Roosevelt was the first president to talk about healthcare reform, then in 1948, Harry Truman made it his platform for the elections. In 1960 was the creation of two major reforms, Medicare and Medicaid, which some people called the socialism king of programs. The difference between them was that the Medicaid program guarantee some health insurance for the poor and the Medicare program guarantee health insurance for the elderly. Even with those programs covering the most vulnerable, 48 million Americans in the 21st Century do not have health insurance. The people on the far right will argue that free market capitalism is the best approach, allowing pure competition will drive down costs, and consequently this will allow more people to buy affordable health insurance, but not everyone agrees with this notion, the opposition believes that healthcare is a guarantee and not a responsibility, that is a right as a human being, therefore the government through the peoples' representation should have a system in which everybody should have free access to healthcare. To get free access the government has to use tax money to pay for the program. People on the right views this as a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Eulogy For Dummies It was third grade, and I got the opportunity of a lifetime. I was going to get my very own short story published! I would be the author, the illustrator, and my own idol. I can recall how it all happened very vividly. Picture me; a tiny, chubby, four–eyed dork with my "I Love Ponies" t–shirt. I was sitting in class–– which, to be honest, was really quite boring, because I already knew how to do all of my multiplication–– when a lady I had never seen before came in asking if she could speak with me outside the class for a few minutes. My mind immediately jumped to the worst conclusion; I was in trouble. My thoughts were racing at the speed of light as I tried to figure out what I was in trouble for. I didn't get into any fights with anybody,...show more content... Write my own book and get it in my school library? That would be the coolest thing ever! Now when I have to check out a book from the library every day to take home and read, I can just take mine! Hah! I don't even have to read it, because I'll know what it's about, because I wrote it! An ingenious plan to get out of reading boring books my school had, and my lifelong (not very long, so far) goal, both to be completed with one task. I was living the dream. For the next few weeks, I stayed after school every day with a few other kids to make our published works happen. The first few days were spent coming up with an idea for our books, and creating outlines for how we would take the ideas out of our minds and onto the paper. I decided that I would write about a trip I took to Bosnia, my home country, a few years back. I was going to tell the story of the place I had the most fun in. I started the rough draft for my book, and I knew I had to practice my handwriting. Mrs. Cox thought it would be more authentic and interesting if our books were hand–drawn and hand–written, so I had to make sure that my writing was impeccable (and, preferably, better than every other kid's who was doing this). I didn't spend too much time on my art during the rough draft process; I knew I wasn't an artist, and I wasn't planning on frustrating myself for hours on end because I couldn't get the hand or the foot "just Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Inaccuracies For Dummies Making mistakes is natural, and it helps educate those willing to learn from those mistakes. Good executives make mistakes every week, but what makes them the best is how they learn from those mistakes. Mr. Konrad is one of those successful executives. He acknowledged the mistakes he made as a young businessman, which lead to the success of IKEA. Mr. Konrad once stated, "Only those who sleep make no mistakes" (2011, pg 63). This quote introduced at the beginning of the chapter helps show no one in the world is capable of being perfect, even if your Mr. Konrad who is a very successful businessman. During the beginning years of his business, Mr. Konrad had made some unsuccessful business agreements which determined the future in the pen industry. First, of course, comes the unsuccessful process of buying pens from an individual who produced pens. They had agreed on a set price for the thousands of pens Mr. Konrad had ordered. The price they agreed on was 2.50 kronor for each pen, kronor is the Swedish national currency. When the two met, Mr. Konrad explained that the supplier had made a mistake in the production of the pens (2011, pg 64). The supplier now was asking for 4 kronor. This increase in price was a problem for the advertisement of the pens and the price he...show more content... Mr. Kamprad exhibited the development of community and ethical leadership after this situation. Knowing the effects of raising the price of his advertisement of pens is community based. • 6. Racism For Dummies How to deal with Racism for Dummies: AP Lit Edition With an ever growing and diversifying population, race is a term that people have become more accustomed to. Many would say that as a society, American citizens have taken steps to subdue and reduce racism. Others may say that the government itself has adopted institutional policies to prevent racism. If such were to be true, considering that those actions to fight racism have existed for at least a century, why is one not able to see that those efforts to fight racism may be ineffective? Society for the past decades has built a manner in which we assume that racism is wrong. Despite those efforts, hundreds of issues concerning race continue occurring. Rather than taking perspective that racism is wrong, society should have a more active focus on the population by providing education on how to respond correctly to issues that can concern...show more content... With this ideology, society as a whole can act against racism to a more efficient extent. Instead of just simply simply stating racism is wrong, people will be able to learn to respond properly respond to racism as how Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have; society will have a more tangible impact towards racism. For decades, the racism was viewed along a motif that it is wrongful. It is present in law, literature, arts, and simple morals. Many of those steps that society has taken focuses upon highlighting the damage that racism causes to both an individual and society, yet, controversial racial issues occur at an alarming rate. The first recorded major effort to subdue racism was the 14th amendment, being approximately 150 years. Since then, this direction has integrated into society in which people are taught that treating people differently according to race is wrongful. With that a effort for at least a century and such problems persisting, Thomson Reuter argues," [that] it should be a clear indicator that the current stance against Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I was walking down the street towards a tall, grey building that didn't seem to have any doors. I heard an irritating beeping noise from behind and my head turned. My eyesight blurred and I felt myself fall backwards. When I came to my senses I realized that I had no control over my body. But their vocals caused the chanting to sound more like "Mannequins? Are not real? • 11. Uncertainty Reduction Theory Essay The Uncertainty Reduction Theory states that before and during initial interactions between two people, one's first instinct is to reduce uncertainty about the other through various methods. For example, when you see someone you think you would like to know, you try and figure out what they are like through various methods so you can control the conversation and steer it into a path that the other person finds interesting. There are a few methods, or strategies, of figuring out what the other person likes: passive, active, and interactive. In the passive strategy, you try to find out the other person's interests through observation from afar. This happens without their knowledge, because you're trying to figure out what they're like...show more content... This happens most frequently in what is commonly referred to as "small talk." Since I am a rather shy person, I don't generally use the active nor the interactive strategy of reducing uncertainty. However, because I do spend most of my time online, the easiest way of finding out more information about someone is through passive strategy. While most people do think it's a little creepy to search for someone specifically, even more would agree that it would be creepy to start a conversation with friends of a person you're searching about online. In real–life encounters, I still generally use the passive strategy of observing people, mainly because my social skills are less–than–adequate. From my non–experience, I can infer that each of the interpersonal encounters have their benefits and drawbacks. The passive strategy does get you information about the person you're looking for, but if it comes up how you got the information you know, it could severely impact the potential relationship you could have with that person. The active strategy gives you information by proxy, and also has the added bonus of getting to know the kind of people your person socializes with, as well. Unfortunately, as previously stated, faulty information is easy to get with this method, and it's possible the people you talk with will tell the person you want to know, causing them to avoid you. And finally, the interactive strategy gives Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Even better, one of the most effective ways to get people involved in Florida 's Everglades is by subtly making it the setting for a novel full of murder, sex, mayhem, and lots of comedy. Carl Hiaasen's Skinny Dip is an attractive read from the start. The title and the cover immediately call on the baser of human instinct. They are catchy and promise readers entertainment. It is a perfect marketing scheme. Even if a person were to see the novel but neglect to purchase it, there is a big chance that that person will read the cover preview... The Everglades in Hiaasen's novel is the core of the story. Many critics may argue that the novel oversimplifies the Everglades situation, and it does. But what person, save an environmentalist, is going to pick up a novel titled Everglades: a Complete History ? Not too many people want to pick up the complete Microsoft handbook and read it in its entirety. Instead, they pick up the Microsoft for Dummies guide and learn the basics. That is essentially what Skinny Dip is all about, the basics of the Everglades . It exists, it is endangered, and it needs to be saved. Hiaasen exposes the truth about the Everglades by interweaving it into the story's plot. Earl, the big fat and hairy bodyguard, becomes the 'tool' essential to understanding the Everglades . Because of Tool's overwhelming pain caused by a bullet wound, he becomes addicted to fentanyl. In his quest for the patches of fentanyl, he visits hospices, "where the people are too sickly to make a fuss". He steals from them, with no care whatsoever for their wellbeing, and regardless, always goes back for more patches. In the same respect, Florida 's Everglades are like the hospice patients, continually attacked, vandalized, and then ignored. Ultimately, the environment has no voice and gives in without a fuss. • 13. Gun Control For Dummies "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." These powerful words of the 2nd amendment of "The Constitution of the United States" have in recent times triggered some of the most controversial discussions regarding gun control. The Second Amendment was added to our Constitution because our founding fathers believed that the private ownership of guns was necessary for protection of our liberties. This law is simple, to the point, and non negotiable; the gun control law is illegal under the constitution and should never be allowed. I personally believe that our guns should not be taken away from us. If guns were outlawed, criminals would still...show more content... And the right to have a gun has nothing to do with the right to murder. It seems today people have recently abused their right to a gun. This has led to recent heart wrenching tragedies such as school shootings, armed robberies, and other gun related crimes. These are the tragic stories we typically hear about, although, you don't hear are the stories about citizens who have saved their own life along with other fellow citizens lives because they have been in possession of a firearm at the time they were attacked. Just because someone else abuses the right and inflicts harm when someone else uses a gun does not mean I should be stripped of my right to self–defense. In one article alone, there were 49 reported stories of incidences in 2015 were citizens were able to defend themselves against their attacker because they were armed. There are many valid arguments for gun control laws, if someone takes an object and uses it to cause harm on another you could assume we clearly need stricter laws enforced on such objects. But with that argument, why don't we just outlaw all cars and knifes. Each of these items can be, and are used to kill. With this logic, pencils are to blame for all misspelled words. Recipes are to blame for all burnt meals. Pharmacists are to blame for drug over doses. If someone is willing to take another life they will make sure they find a way to do it. • 14. Part I Setting the Stage with Grant Basics Chapter one helped clarify grant terminology that I may run into while conducting grant research and filling out grant applications. I found this useful because I now have a better understanding of what certain grants are looking for and the grant language that is needed. This chapter also helped me learn how to set up a plan for keeping track of the grants I am working on and helped set up the process. The second chapter goes over how to create and complete funding plans for each grant. It stresses that without a plan it is difficult to have a successful grant process. This chapter has useful suggestions on what to look for within an organization to decide where funding is needed. The third...show more content... Some of these sites I have previewed and I think they will help me find grants that are available in our area that we have not solicited at this time. The seventh chapter covers finding grants for individuals. This chapter will probably not benefit my work at the Conservancy but it was interesting to see the types of individual grants that are available and where to look for them. The eighth chapter covers international grants and funding. I'm not sure while working for this chapter I will use this information but once again it was useful to know that there are resources out there to help with these types of grants if I ever need them. Part III Playing by the rules of the Grants Game Chapters nine and ten are chapters that will help me prepare and write what the reviewers of government grants are looking for. Each of these chapters covered tips that helped me learn what to look for while looking for grants. This information will help me know which grants are going to be right or wrong for our organization based on the qualifications. It was interesting to read that some grants have picky qualifications and long processes before even submitting a request; while other grants have quick and easy forms to fill out. It also stressed that with grant writing it is important to follow all rules and read all guidelines. If you miss something that the grant reviewer wants you can lose your funding request. The eleventh chapter was interesting because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Vegetarianism for Dummies Essay They say, "You are what you eat" and if making good food choices makes you a healthier and happier person, why are healthy food trends seemingly misunderstood and becoming a thing of the past? This semester I will be researching the advantages of choosing to obtain a vegetarian lifestyle and why some individuals are making arguments that are extremely against the practice. This topic is appropriate for a semester of sustained research because there are multiple viewpoints on the issue (including people who have experienced positive health benefits when they cut meat out of their diets, people who disapprove of the industry's animal treatment, and people who strongly feel that there are extreme health risks and financial burdens that come...show more content... (Wiki) The film for me shined light on the dark aspects of American food industries, influenced me to do further research on the topic, and evidently considerably influenced my perspective of food. While the vision of animal cruelty painted in the film ultimately made me decide to become a practicing vegetarian, I would mainly blame my continued lifestyle choice on the benefits that I experienced when I initially made the transition as well as the harsh realities of the unsanitary procedures reveled in the film. Overall I would say, vegetarianism has made me a healthier person by making me constantly aware of what I put into my body (a main reason that I believe the issue is worth research), it has cured an esophageal health problem that I have been having since birth, and best of all in an essence the lifestyle choice lifted a huge weight off my shoulders by giving more energy, better physical health, and overall has made me a more confident person. Because of this positive experience, I am an extreme advocate for the way of life, and this topic is particularly compelling to me because I have a difficult time understanding the prejudices that make vegetarianism a national controversy. In my research, I hope to gain greater insight on the health deficiencies that align with vegetarianism and eventually crack the myth of strict dieting being difficult to adhere to (especially for people with lower economic statuses or people on the run). • 16. The Last Samurai Essay "The Last Samurai" is a film centered around the idea of journeying physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. We witness these journeys not only through observations of a character going through a personal transformation but a whole culture around him who is likewise in turmoil. This film allows us to join in on an adventure and journey of the character, the world he enters and the people he meets. The story is based on a time just after the Civil War, a time when the modern western world which had just encroached upon the American West, condemning the Native American, began to engulf traditional Japan as well. The purpose of this film is to give a voice to these people, to share in their struggles and experiences and be...show more content... This idea of a physical journey is easily conveyed through the use of scenery. We get to witness the extent of the physical journey by viewing the changing environment. This technique is something that not only highlights the actual physical journey, but the extent of the changes that the protagonist is going through in relation to his changing situations. This technique is achieved most effectively by the camera shots used, in particular the use of cinematography and indeed panning. Throughout the film we are taken on the heroic journey of the powerful character of Captain Nathan Algren, a person who travels a great distance, literally and figuratively to find himself and his values. Captain Algren emerges as a truly tormented figure, a man who has lost faith, an extremely vulnerable figure, not your typical stock movie hero. He is a lost soul searching to find his way. Edward Zwick allows you to witness this journey through his use of gradual development throughout the film. As the character discovers, so do you and so on. You are therefore just that bit closer personally to each of the characters, and their journey. It also opened up my eyes on the certain requirements that she needed. The vet agreed to hold Bella another night so I could prepare her new home. I measured my fence and discovered that it was actually two inches shorter than what was recommended. So the next day I installed a privacy fence. I also installed a doggie door so she could come in and out as she needed. I installed a small pool for her to exercise, and some yard tools that she could play in. I called my friend and asked her if she would bring her dogs over and test run my back yard. The dogs had a ball, and the doggy door was put to use. Theodore Roosevelt was the first president to talk about healthcare reform, then in 1948, Harry Truman made it his platform for the elections. Often it is used in conjunction with other treatments to alleviate the side effects of prescription drugs or to provide more comfort to patients.
