3. What is PLC?
A PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER (PLC) is an
industrial computer control system that continuously
monitors the state of input devices and makes
decisions based upon a custom program to control
the state of output devices.
4. Why do we learn PLC?
ā¢ In the recent years PLC plays a vital role in our automation
sector. The production of Various industry like as Textile,
Food & Beverage, Photochemical/chemical etc. are
increasing because of using PLC.
ā¢ PLC also plays a vital role In the power sector, Aerospace
& reduce complexity from various industrial sector.
ā¢ So, it donāt need to say that the use of PLC is now demand
of time.
5. Types of PLC
Compact PLC: It is built by several modules within a
single case. Therefore, the I/O capabilities are
decided by the manufacturer, but not by the user.
Modular PLC: is built with several components that
are plugged into a common rack or bus with
extendable I/O capabilities. It contains power supply
module, CPU and other I/O modules that are
plugged together in the same rack, which are from
same manufacturers or from other manufacturers.
Soft PLC: It s an advanced PLC system that consists
of compact, rack mounted components such as
power supplies, I/O modules and a CPU, which
embeds our powerful Soft PLC Control Software.
6. Brands of PLC
ā¢ PLC is manufactured by some leading manufacturers.
These areā¦.
American:
o Allen Bradley PLC
o Gould Modicon PLC
o Texas Instruments PLC
o General Electric (GE) PLC
European:
o Siemens PLC
o Festo PLC
o Telemechanique PLC
o Klockner & Mouller PLC
Japanese:
o Toshiba PLC
o Mitsubishi PLC
o Omron PLC
o Fanuc PLC
8. Programming language of PLC
ā¢ There are some programming languages to write
program in PLC. These areā¦.
ā¢ Ladder Diagram
ā¢ Instruction List
ā¢ Function Block Diagram
ā¢ Sequential Function Chart
ā¢ Structured Text
ā¢ Etc.
10. Description
ļCPU:
Itās the unit that contains microprocessor.
ļPower supply unit:
Itās needed to converted the main AC voltage to low DC
voltage.
ļInput-output sections:
These are where the processor receives information from
external devices and communicates information to external
devices.
ļMemory unit:
It is where the program is stored that is to be used for control
actions.
ļProgramming devices:
It is used to entered the required program into the memory of
processor.
11. Operation of PLC
PLC operationā¦
Check input status:
First the PLC takes a look at each I/O
to determine if it is on or off.
Execute program:
Next the PLC executes the program
one instruction at a time.
Up date output status:
Finally the PLC updates the outputs.
It updates the outputs based on
witch inputs were on during the first
step.
15. Job opportunity of PLC
ā¢ Job opportunitiesā¦.
o Industrial Automation Engineer
o PLC service Engineer
o PLC programmer
o Building Automation Engineer
o System Maintenance & Trouble Shooting
o Consultancy & Technical Support
o Software modification to PLC, HMI,SCADA
o Project Estimation & Management
o Equipment assembly & installation
o Etc.
16. Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages Disadvantages
1. Increased reliability
2. More flexibility
3. Lower cost
4. Faster response
5. Easier to troubleshoot
6. Remote control capability
7. Communication Capability
1.Initial cost is high.
2. Increases unemployment rate.
3. If the PLC donāt running in your
production time, the production of your
company will be stopped.
17. Conclusion
ā¢ From the above discussion we need to come to the
point that in the various industry, power sector and
also various field the PLC provide a comfortable &
riskless job environment.
ā¢ So, as an EEE engineer this is the right time to
gather knowledge about PLC.
