Design A Novel Strategy Targeting Asd Risk Genes Involved...
There is a critical need to design a novel strategy targeting ASD risk genes involved in the Wnt
pathway. The major gap in current knowledge that we will address in this proposal is to determine
how PV neuron– specific CTNNB1 KO affects animal behaviors and to what extent Wnt agonists
reverse the behavioral deficits. We expect to identify the defect that is involved in PV neurons
specific to CTNNB1 knockout mice. Moreover, we have identified several bioactive compounds
with diverse mechanisms of action that can potentiate the Wnt pathway in human NPCs, including
approved drugs and probes suitable for in vivo use31, 32. Repurposing these drugs for ASD will be
exciting because they act through different mechanisms than current experimental therapies now.
Our cKO mice provide an ideal animal model to examine the extent to which targeting Wnt pathway
can ameliorate the behavioral deficits. If small molecules targeting Wnt pathway in this study can
alleviate behavioral deficits, a whole new "druggable" pathway will further identify more active
molecules/drugs that can be directly applied to the ASD patients. This contribution will be
significant because it is an important step to allow modulation of the Wnt signaling pathway at
interneurons and may lead to development of a pharmacologic approach to correct ASD–related
behavioral defects, thereby improving the lives of ASD patients. What is learned in this study will
be applicable to other ASDs caused by mutations associated with

A Mixture Of Historical And Currents Facts About Israel Essay
Global Business Country Profile (Part 1): Getting to Know Israel

Global Business 310
This paper examines a mixture of historical and currents facts about Israel. Specifically, the country
is placed under the microscope in order to explain history of origin, geographical location, statistical
demographics, government structure, and military structure. Together, these findings based on
detailed research suggests that Israel is a country rich in complex history that predates centuries
before its inception.
Keywords: Israel, Jewish, economy, technology, Middle East
History of Origin
One can say that the modern state of Israel is a direct result of World War II. Following the war, The
British Mandate for Palestine (1920), which directed the administrative control by Britain of the
territory formally under Ottoman Empire rule, ended on May 14, 1948. According to the United
States Central Intelligence Agency (2016), or CIA, the United Nations then proposed a plan that
would divide that same area into Jewish and Arab states after millions of Jews were displaced from
Nazi–Germany. On the same day, inspired by the dream of Jewish sovereignty, Israel was declared a
state in Tel Aviv (State of Israel Proclaimed," 2010). David Ben–Gurion then became the first Prime
Minister of Israel and is widely known as the father and architect of the country. The declaration of
Israel was a move widely rejected by Arab Nations and resulted in massive tensions

Statement Of Purpose In Microbiology
From the very beginning of my student life, I loved biology. When I was in my lower secondary
school, I still remember that day when my science teacher told me the story of microbes and the day
after showed and taught applications of microscope, my interest in microbiology started to take its
shape. I became even intensely interested when he told us that bacteria and virus are invisible to
your naked eyes, however they can cause you disease and some might kill you. After the completion
of my high school as a science major student, my parents wanted me to join medical school and
become a doctor. But I had already encrypted curiosity of microbiology inside my mind. So, I began
my journey into the world of microbiology. I secretly joined microbiology without telling my
parents and told them that I am not shortlisted in MBBS exam.
My interest in microbiology deepened during my bachelors degree while studing Medical
Microbiology at Trichandra college. While in bachelors degree, I learned how to manage time in
stressful conditions besides laying a firm base on the basics of Microbiology and lab practices. I
tutored high school level students as a part–time tutor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Causes And Treatment Of Sepsis
The term "sepsis" has been around since prehistoric times. Hippocrates presented the word sepsis
2400 years ago to represent a condition where an overwhelming infection leads to tissue breakdown
with rotting, foul odour, and disease. The ancient Roman scholar and writer (116 BC–27 BC),
Marcus Terentius Varro mentioned that "small creatures, invisible to the eye, fill the atmosphere, and
breathed through the nose cause dangerous diseases."
In the early 1990s at a conference convened by the American College of Chest Physicians and the
Society of Critical Care Medicine modern definitions of "sepsis" were termed in detail. At that time,
"sepsis" was described as a systemic response to a physiologic insult including infections and other
etiologies that lead to the development of further organ injury, ultimately culminating in multiple
organ dysfunction syndromes.
The word "bacteraemia" is used when bacteria are isolated from the blood whether clinical
symptoms are present or not while the words "sepsis" or "septicaemia" is used for the isolation of
bacteria in blood in combination with clinical symptoms and signs of infections.
Neonatal sepsis, also named "Sepsis neonatorum", represents to a group of physical and laboratory
findings that occur in response to invasive infection within the first 30 days (neonatal) of life.
Criteria for neonatal sepsis should include documentation of infection in a newborn infant (0–
28days) with a serious systemic illness in which noninfectious

Anabolic Steroids Should Be Banned Research Paper
There are many substances that are banned in the world of athletics. Almost no matter what
governing body you look at for a sports association the list of banned substances is the same. The
USADA, the NCAA, and WADA are the three largest organizations that I have found and all of
them bann the same substances. There list include, but are not limited too stimulants, anabolic
agents, beta blockers, diuretics and other masking agents, growth factors, street drugs, and anything
chemically related to items on the list. It also continued into procedures that it considered illegal
which included blood doping, gene doping, local anesthetics, and beta–2 agonists ("2016–17 NCAA

With athletes these aren't really viewed as performance enhancers but are illegal, so are still placed
on the banned substance list. The common effects of almost any street drug is it gives a feeling of
euphoria, and also makes that person feel invincible, which are the side effects that make people like
them. They also cause nausea and vomiting, the failure to recognize injury, and eventually your
body develops a dependence on them. One of the specific street drugs I'm gonna mention is
marijuana. While it's not viewed as a "hard drug" it still has side effects that people can either view
as fun or dangerous. These side effects impair short–term memory, increased heart rate, difficulty
concentrating, and slowed reflexes. It also causes mood swings and impairs comprehensive thinking
("Effects of Performance Enhancers" 2014). These side effects happen very quickly due to how
marijuana is usually introduced to a person system. The reason it acts so quickly is explained on the
National Institute on Drug Abuse website, "When a person smokes marijuana, THC quickly passes
from the lungs into the bloodstream. The blood carries the chemical to the brain and other organs
throughout the body" ("Drug Facts–Marijuana"

My First Impression Of Bafa Bafa After Hearing The Rules
Bafa Bafa Reflection My first impression of Bafa Bafa after hearing the rules was that it would be
an enjoyable class activity. Little did I know, that the activity would go much deeper than just being
a class activity. Bafa Bafa simulates the human interactions in the world as we know it. It teaches a
lesson of diversities and miscommunications between them. It permits everyone and anyone to
experience the notion of being "foreign" or an "outcast". In Bafa Bafa, I was a part of the Alpha
culture. In order to collaborate with my classmates, I had to dim my strong feminist attitude in order
to play along in the patriarch culture. I wasn 't particularly phased by the close proximity and close
contact interactions as these were already engrained in me. I quickly realized that a connection was
forming between the students that were forming the Alpha culture. Whether this was due to close
interactions or passion of playing an act, I do not know, but the feeling of membership was strong
and present. The rules were even well tolerated and respected, as no deviants were actually really
present in the group. I was observing and becoming part of an "in–group" mentality as referred to in
Psychology. I was an Alpha and by God, I will play this game well and right to be a really good
Alpha. My mentality went from being a class member of EDU 150 to being a member of culture
Alpha. I also noticed a change in regards to culture Beta, my other classmates from EDU 150. When

Ethiopia Research Paper
When it comes to things that are needed to sustain life, often times, these things are just part of the
daily routine and have no positive, emotional stimulation. Food, on the other hand, is also required
in order to survive, but for many it is one of the best parts of the day. Even though eating food is one
of the most repetitive things we do as humans, it never gets old and is always exciting. Eating is
almost always something that individuals look forward to and gives them a sense of joy. Each
culture has a different approach on food eating habits and ways in which food is prepared, enjoyed,
and consumed. Often times food practices by humans are determined by values, attitudes, beliefs,
and environmental and religious circumstances; all of which are the products of tradition, culture,
and contacts (Onuorah and Ayo, 2003). These unique variations in food consumption and food
preparation make food habits absolutely fascinating and culturally distinct.
Culture plays a significant role in determining food patterns. An example of this is evident in
Ethiopian food. In the Ethiopian culture, vegetables and very spicy meat dishes are often indicative

In this research paper I will discuss the ethnic groups of Africans in the Caribbean and Jews in
Ethiopia. Jews in Ethiopia call themselves Beta Israel which means `house of Israel.' They are also
known as the Falashas. Falasha means `stranger' or `immigrant' in the classical language of Ethiopia
(the Ge'ez tongue). I will also describe the culture of the African people displaced into the Caribbean
who identify themselves as the Rastafarians and the connections I have made between them and
Judaism. I believe that these connections between Judaism and Rastafarianism are more than just
similarities that can be found between any two Bible– following religions. I choose the Falashas as

While Jews are still waiting for the messiah, Rastas believe that the messiah has already come (and,
unfortunately, gone) in the form of the last Emperor of Ethiopia, His Imperial Majesty, Haile
Selassie I."Today man sees all his hopes and aspirations crumble before him. He is perplexed and
knows not whither he is drifting. But he must realise that the solution of his present difficulties and
guidance for his future action is the Bible. Unless he accepts with clear conscience the Bible and its
great message, he cannot hope for salvation. For myself, I glory in the Bible."– Selassie I
Emperor Haile Selassie is a direct descendant of King Salomon and the Queen of Sheba; not
surprisingly the African people of the Caribbean looked to Selassie as their savior. They were taken
from their motherland, Africa, in times of slavery and sought repatriation. Their situation made
belief in a white god unrealistic. Selassie I was their Savior. It was on the day of November 2, 1930,
when Selassie was crowned Emperor, that he assumed his name meaning"the power of the Holy
Trinity". Since then, he has been called many names including King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and
the Conquering Lion of Judah – all of which are taken from the book of Revelations. Before he was
emperor, he was Ras Tafari, (Rosh Tiferet in Hebrew) which translates to"Crown Prince."A psalm in

A Short Note On Classification Of Β -lactamases
1.6.1 Classification of β–lactamases
Two major schemes for classification of β–lactamases are currently in use. The molecular
classification of β–lactamases is based on the amino acid sequence homology dividing them into
four classes A through D. The enzymes belonging to class A, C and D utilize serine residue for
substrate hydrolysis while class B enzymes (metallo–β–lactamases) utilize divalent zinc ions for β–
lactam hydrolysis [Ambler R. P. et al, 1991]. The functional classification is based on the substrate
and inhibitor profiles of the enzymes [Bush K. et al, 1995; Bush & Jacoby, 2010]. The inhibitors
used in this scheme are Clavulanic acid, tazobactam and EDTA. The β–lactamases can be loosely
identified based on their substrate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However with the advent of each new class of antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, new β–
lactamases emerged that caused resistance to that particular class of drug. It is assumed that the
overuse of new antibiotics in the treatment of patients created a selective pressure eventually
selecting for new variants of β–lactamase.
One of the new classes of antibiotics introduced was the oximino–cephalosporins which owing to
their excellent activity became widely used for the treatment of serious infections due to gram
negative bacteria in the 1980s. Not surprisingly, resistance due to production of β–lactamases
against this expanded spectrum β–lactam antibiotics soon emerged. These β–lactamases were named
as extended–spectrum β–lactamases (ESBLs) because of their increased spectrum of activity
especially against the oximino–cephalosporins. The first ESBL capable of hydrolyzing the newer β–
lactams was SHV–2 found in a strain Klebsiella ozaenae in

The Land of Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and
national identity was formed. Here they achieved independence and created a culture of national and
universal significance. Here they wrote and gave the Bible to the world. Exiled from the Land of
Israel, the Jewish people remained faithful to it in all the countries of their dispersion. The Jewish
Nation had been wandering around deserts, were once slaves in Egypt, but didn't have any land to
their name; in 1948 the Jewish Nation finally had a place to call home, known as Israel to this day.

Israel has a high security system with The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) always ready to serve and

that are anti–Israel. (Israel Defense Force, 2015) The IDF is one of the security mechanisms that
enable the safety for Jews in Israel. The IDF has served in each of the country's major wars.
Founding of the military happened after the establishment of Israel. (Israel Defense Force, 2015)
The IDF creates a sense of unity for the Israeli people. By having the IDF walk the streets armed

The Early Esbls
1.7.2.3 CTX–M β–lactamases
Most of the early ESBLs were mainly ceftazidimases with little or no hydrolytic activity against
cefotaxime. ESBLs often showed variable substrate preference with some enzymes hydrolyzing one
cephalosporin type better than the others. The first enzyme with the capability of cefotaxime
hydrolysis but unable to hydrolyze ceftazidime was reported from an E. coli strain isolated from a
dog that was used as a model to study cephalosporin pharmacokinetics in Japan in 1986. It was
initially named as FEC–1 but later found to be similar to CTX–M–3 on subsequent amino–acid
sequencing. The first clinical isolate with cefotaximase property was identified From an E. coli

The analysis revealed that the CTX–M members of same group exhibited ≥94% identity while
≤90% with members of different groups. The evolutionary distances between groups reveal an early
divergence from a common ancestor.
Few members are shown below:
CTX–M–1 cluster: CTX–M–1, –3, –10, –15, –22, –23
CTX–M–2 cluster: CTX–M–2, –4, –5, –6, –7, –20, –76, –77
CTX–M–8 cluster: CTX–M–8, –40, –63
CTX–M–9 cluster: CTX–M–9, –14, –16, –17, –18, –19
CTX–M–25 cluster: CTX–M–25, –26, –39, –41, –91
The origin of CTX–M type β–lactamases was very different from that of TEM or SHV–type β–
lactamases (Bonnet, 2004).These enzymes show only 40% resemblance to two most common
ESBLs, TEM and SHV. Each CTX–M cluster has been correlated to the chromosomal bla genes
present in different Kluyvera species, that normally form human intestinal normal flora at low
counts. It is also considered as an opportunistic pathogen occasionally associated with infections of
urinary tract and skin in humans [Farmer et al, 1981; Sarriaetal, 2001]. It also exists in the
environment as a free living organism in water, soil, sewage and animal food. Chromosomal bla
gene, kluC, present in Kluyvera cryocrescens (kluC) has been considered the ancestor of the CTX–
M–1cluster (Decousser et al., 2001). The enzymes of CTX–M–2 cluster are believed to origin from

Low Heart Rates Is Preferable When Conducting Coronary Ct...
The maintenance of low heart rates is preferable when conducting coronary CT angiography
(CCTA). Current medical publications recommend a heart rate less than 60 beats/min for optimal
image and radiation dose reduction. Patients undergoing CCTA are usually given beta–blockers if
there are no contraindications one hour before the test to control the heart rate. Another method that
is used in moderating the heart rate of patients undergoing CCTA is ivabradine. Ivabradine is a novel
heart rate–reducing agent that has the potential to be an attractive alternative to currently available
drugs to achieve optimal heart rate control in patients undergoing CCTA (Adile et al., 2012). It is a
specific heart rate–lowering drug that acts by selectively inhibiting the pacemaker current in the
sinoatrial node. Unlike beta–blockers, ivabradine does not affect myocardial contractility, does not
cause changes in blood pressure, and has no effect on respiratory function. This study aims to focus
on the differences between ivabradine and beta blockers in their respective effects for controlling the
heart rate of patients undergoing CCTA.

GENERIC NAME:LABETALOL – ORAL (luh–BET–uh–lol) BRAND NAMES: Normodyne,
Trandate DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Labetalol is a drug that is used for treating high
blood pressure. Nerves from the adrenergic nervous system travel from the spinal cord to arteries
where they release norepinephrine. Norepinephrine attaches to adrenergic receptors on arteries and
causes the arteries to contract, narrowing the arteries, and increasing blood pressure. Labetalol
blocks receptors of the adrenergic nervous system. When labetalol attaches to and blocks the
receptors, arteries expand, resulting in a fall in blood pressure. GENERIC AVAILABLE: Yes

If combined with adrenergic stimulating drugs used for treating asthma, ex. albuterol the adrenergic
blocking effects of labetalol may counteract the effects of the stimulating drugs and reduce their
effectiveness for treating asthmatic attacks. More of the adrenergic drug may be needed. SIDE
EFFECTS: The most common side effects of labetalol are fatigue, dizziness, nausea, headache,
diarrhea, edema (fluid accumulation), and shortness of breath. Postural hypotension (a rapid
decrease in blood pressure when going from the lying or seated position to the standing position that
may cause light–headedness or fainting) occurs rarely. Patients should be observed for this possible
side effect within two to four hours of the first labetalol dose and after any changes in dose. Sexual
dysfunction, abnormal heart rhythm, slow heart rate, liver failure, and allergic reactions may occur.

Complex Macromolecules: A Protein Study
Proteins are complex macromolecules which are essential for life of all organisms. They are
manufactured through the processes of transcription and translation, which take place inside the
cells. More specifically, they are synthesised by ribosomes (Shakhnovich, 2007). Figure 1.1 shows
the overall processes that can occur in making a fully functionally active protein. (Ghelis, 2012).
Functional properties of certain proteins include, but is not limited to: structural composition of the
cytoskeleton in cells, catalysing biochemical reactions and hormones such as insulin to regulate
blood sugar concentration (O'Connor & Adams, 2014). Proteins must therefore have a specific 3–

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common aging disorder affecting millions of people
worldwide (Apostolova & Cummings, 2007) and is caused by the misfolding of proteins, causing
neuronal degeneration (Ramirez–Alvarado, Kelly & Dobson, 2010). Structures known as sinile
plaques, which have inner cores of beta amyloid fibrils, are found in the brains parenchyma and on
the walls of the cerebral blood vessels of people with AD (Vinters, Wang & Secor, 1996). It was
discovered by John Hardy and his research team in 1991 that a hereditary form of Alzheimer's is
caused by a mutation in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) (Taubes, 1996) This protein is a
glycoprotein thought to carry out functions in neuronal survival and synaptic stability (Apostolova
& Cummings, 2007). When mutated, the alpha helix native structure is transformed into a beta sheet
conformation. This results in the insoluble protein accumulating in the brain and extracellular
aggregation of beta amyloid (Forloni et al., 2002), by catalysing other proteins into their abnormal
state – an infective conformation (Ashraf et al, 2014) and aggregate, which is when continued
negative feedback will occur with the generation of more insoluble fibrils (Apostolova &

ACE Inhibitor
The first line choice in patients with heart failure is Angiotensin–Converting Enzyme Inhibitors
(ACE Inhibitors). ACE inhibitors can help slow progression of heart failure and improve symptoms.
ACE inhibitors block the action of a protein (enzyme) that causes blood vessels to narrow. As a
result, blood vessels relax and widen. This lowers blood pressure and makes it easier for the heart to
pump blood. These medicines also help body release water and sodium, which also helps lower
blood pressure. ACE inhibitors relieve heart failure symptoms, such as fluid retention and edema.
They may help reduce liver disease and prevent readmission to the hospital. Examples of ACE
inhibitors are Captopril, Enalapril, Lisinopril, Quinapril, and Ramipril. ... Show more content on

Amidarone extends the action potential refractory period in the heart. Each time electrical signals
are activated by reaching the action potential. They go through a refractory period where they are
decharged and it is much harder to become reactivated again. Amiderone also inhibits the sodium
channel in the heart and slow inward calcium current. Consequently, the conductivity of the
atriventricular is reduced. Amiderone should not be used in a patient with 2nd or 3rd degree heart
block or sick sinus syndrome without a pacemaker. Common side effects of amiderone include
sensitive to sunlight, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, and taste disturbances. Patients who taking
amiderone should be educated about applying sunscreen and minimize exposing to sunlight. Class
IV antiarrhythmic drugs include cardizem and verapamil. The drugs in this class are used to treat
superventricular arrhythmias which include PSVT, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. The primary
action of the drug in class IV is to inhibit or slow down the movement of calcium through calcium
channels. This relaxes the vessels. The relaxed vessels let blood flow more easily through them,
thereby lowering heart rate. The common side effects of class IV drugs include constipation,
bradycardia, heart block, hypotension, dizziness, and peripheral edema.

These mice kept strong memories and performed just as well as normal mice which suggests that the
radiation could have protected their memories. Mice, who were transgenic, began the radiation
treatment at five months old when memories had begun to deteriorate. In such cases, the radiation
seemed to stop further memory loss and in some mice, the radiation may have reversed the memory
loss. According to the health physics society, radiation is an energy that comes from a source and
travels through space which may be able to penetrate various materials. In the past few weeks of our
chemistry class I have learned that atoms whom have an unstable nuclei are radioactive, these atoms
give off excess energy which are radiation rays. Radiation varies from gamma, beta, and alpha rays.
Gamma rays have the shortest wavelengths and highest frequencies. Gamma rays are the most
energetic form of light produced by the hottest regions of the universe and emitted by the nucleus of
radioactive atoms. Because of this, gamma rays are used to penetrate tissue property, such as in the
use of CT scans, and radiation therapy. Alpha particles are also ejected by the nuclei of unstable
atoms; however, they are large and consist of two protons and two neutrons. Although alpha
particles have a high mass, they are the most destructive form of radiation with a low penetrating
force; a single piece of paper can block alpha particles. Beta particles are much

Transportation : A Small Country, Israel 's Primary Mode...
Transportation
A small country, Israel's primary mode of transportation is via automobile, and the country is served
by a modern road network. Congestion has become a particularly bad problem in the Tel Aviv area,
to the point that a government–hired consultancy firm proposed instituting congestion charges for
cars entering the city during the busiest part of the day. This kind of system is similar to that used to
control traffic in London, Singapore, and Stockholm.
Israel Railways, the nation's rail system linking all the major coastal cities, as well as inland cities
such as Jerusalem and Beersheba, is in the process of being upgraded. The planned changes will
better accommodate the system for commuter traffic. High–speed trains, electrification of the
current rail system, and upgrades and expansion of rail stations and adjacent parking areas are some
of the projects either planned or underway. Current projections are for the system to carry 40 million
passengers by 2010, a huge jump, compared with the fewer than 3 million passengers that used the
system in 1990.
Israel's primary air hub is in Ben Gurion International Airport, located near the city of Lod, about 15
km (9 mi) southeast of Tel Aviv. Having operated since 1936, the airport has undergone several
expansions as the amount of air traffic has increased. El–Al, the Israeli former national air carrier,
handles most international flights, while Arkia and Israir run domestic flights to airports in Eilat,

Preventative Methods Of Alzheimer's Disease
Preventative Methods of Alzheimer's disease
Now that the disparity between Alzheimer's disease prevalence in men and women, as well as the
different rates of incidence in different countries has been established, it is now applicable to discuss
what can be done to prevent this disease. There are many ways that researchers believe people can
use to prevent Alzheimer's disease. Studies by researchers have found that cannabinoids could
stimulate the brain cells and slow the progression of the disease. Conversely, some believe that
Alzheimer's is impossible to fight, regardless of the precautions taken. This paper will examine
Alzheimer's disease and also explore in depth on the following topics: the prevalence of Alzheimer's

that success to people?" (Time Magazine)
There is research that suggests altering the lifestyle can lower the risk of developing Alzheimer's
disease. There are also two more ways that people can stay healthy and they are: using cannabinoids
and avoiding benzodiazepines. The former is found in marijuana and the latter in anxiety, epilepsy,
and sleep medications. In the benzodiazepine study, the researchers took hundreds of Canadian
participants that were over the age of 66 and grouped them based on whether they had ever used
benzodiazepines. This research was conducted by de Gage, Moride, Ducruet, Kurth, Verdoux,
Tournier, Pariente, and Begaud in 2014. The study on cannabinoids, a significant component found
in marijuana, was done by Bachmeier, Beaulieu–Abdelahad, Mullan, and Paris in 2013. These
studies play an essential role in illustrating how this disease can be prevented. There may not be a
definitive cure for those who are already deeply afflicted with this disease, even in the future.
However, examining studies on cannabinoids and benzodiazepines may help those who are in the
early stages or have no clinical signs of Alzheimer's. In regards to the benzodiazepine study, the
participants who did not ever use benzodiazepines were placed in the control group (de Gage 2014).
The main finding of this study was the fact that benzodiazepine use is correlated to

Health Benefits Of Support Group Therapy
"A support group is a gathering of people who share a common health concern or interest." (Healthy
Lifestyle: Stress Management, 2015) Support groups are created to help individuals with various
mental, medical, and personal histories understand that they are not alone in what they are going
through, creating an environment of open dialogue and non–judgement. Professional group therapy
can make people feel uncomfortable in sharing the floor with others; in a support group, it is a place
to share advice, troubles, and experiences.
Support groups vary depending on the topic. Some are peer–created, whether by someone affected
by the topic or someone who is interested in it, and some are created by organizations like charity
groups, mental health groups, or for educational purposes.

The History and Culture of Black Jews in America Essay
According to the broadest definition, there are approximately 9 million Jewish adults in America. Of
those, 5.3 million are Jewish because they practice the Jewish religion or who have a Jewish parent
and consider themselves Jewish. Non–hispanic blacks make up 2% of that population. (A Portrait of
Jewish Americans) Blacks constitute such a small percentage of the Jewish population that they are
often considered to be obviously "not Jewish". This was the experience of Rabbi Shlomo ben
Levy.In an article entitled, "Who are we? Where did we come from? How many of us are there?",
Rabbi Levy describes his feelings of marginalization triggered by an advertisement for Levy's

(Kaye/Kantrowitz 1) Meanwhile, it is not uncommon for black Jews, who usually prefer to be called
Hebrews or Israelites, to describe white Jews as the products of conversion or intermarriage and that
Judaism is the true religion of their African ancestors. (Parfitt 84–88) This dynamic shapes the
mutual mistrust that exists between black Jews in America and the overwhelmingly Ashkenazi
majority.
The problem of marginalization began with the waves of Jewish immigrants from Europe who fled
the Russion pogroms and later the Nazis. In their homelands, these people were Jewish, but in
America they had the opportunity to be white. In cementing their status as white, these Amnerican
Jews further alienated the small minority of Jews of African descent and others who do not fit nicely
into the white race group. Despite this, the black Jews of America share a diverse cultural history
that is both African and Jewish.
The Commandment Keepers, are one of the largest and best known black Jewish congregations in
America. (Chireau 25) Their founder, Wentworth Arthur Matthew, is regarded as the first black
American rabbi. Matthew's background is not well documented. From his own accounts he was born
in the West Indies in 1892, the grandson of an Ethiopian Jew, and studied at a number of prestigious
institutions. The congregation he founded remains active and has been an Orthodox Jewish
congregation since it's founding in 1919. (Biography of

The Drug For Treating Bacterial Infections
LITERATURE REVIEW β lactam antibiotics have continued to be the most popular drug for
treating bacterial infections since its discovery in 1928 by Fleming and its introduction as an
antibacterial agent in the early 1950.1 Most commonly used β lactam drugs today stems from the
original discovery and development of natural products from microorganisms like penicillin,
cephalosporin and other β lactam based antibiotics (Figure 1). 1,2 However, soon after its
commercialization and widespread usage, β lactamase secreting penicillin resistant strains of
Staphylococcus aureus were isolated.3 The introduction of methicillin (a β lactamase–insensitive
semi–synthetic penicillin), to curb the resistance problem resulted in the evolution of another
resistant strain known as methicillin–resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).4 Figure 1: Some β
lactam antibiotics
Resistance to β lactams is easy for bacteria as all β lactams shared the same mode of action, which is
the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by forming stable covalent adducts with the active site
serine residues of penicillin binding proteins (PBPs). The PBPS are often divided into two
partitions; the high molecular weight PBPs (HMW–PBPs) and the low–molecular weight PBPs
(LMW–PBPs). The HMW–PBPs are further divided in two classes, A and B, while the LMW–PBPs
are divided in four subclasses based on their tertiary structures. Figure 2 shows the reactions
between natural substrates, β lactams and transition state

Potential Inappropriate Medication (HT)

hypertension is not a disease at usual sense it is a risk factor for many future vascular diseases1,2. In
human body blood pressure is maintained by several factors such as kidney, sympathetic nervous
system, hormonal mechanisms along with the diet taken. These include lipids, magnesium, sodium,

Doctors should cautious about Potential Inappropriate Medication (PIM) and other potential drug
disease interactions (PDDI). In this patients homeostatic mechanisms and functional capacities of
most drugs are reduced on being aged. Decline in renal function and GFR also affect the drug
clearance. It is evident from many other studies about the age related reduction in metabolic
capacity of liver of man5. This significantly influence the pharmacokinetics of a drug. Apart from
kinetics pharmacodynamic changes in the elderly patients are ascribed to changes in the sensitivity
to drugs. Polypharmacy is common in elderly patients is that more than 40% persons aged 65 or
above use more than 5 drugs and 12% use ten or more different medications7. This makes elderly
populations more susceptable to drug interactions. The probability of potential drug interactions for

Heart Failure ( Hf )
Introduction
Heart failure (HF) is a pathological condition that impairs the ability of the heart to keep up with the
metabolic demands of the body, resulting in multi–organ abnormalities and eventually death1, 2.
This can result from conditions that reduce the ability of heart to pump blood which include
decreased contractility of myocardium secondary to reduced coronary perfusion, structural causes
like damaged heart valves, cardiac muscle or pericardial diseases etc.3 The understanding of the
mechanistic details that drive the progression of heart failure is not well understood but molecular
and cellular changes point towards the role of neuro–hormonal activation and ventricular
remodeling as primary determinants.4 The sequential and progressive upregulation of renin–
angiotensin aldosterone system, increased levels of norepinephrine and endothelin–1 play a
significant role in the progression of LV dysfunction. Coronary artery disease (CAD), dDiabetes,
and hHypertension are among the leading causes whereas other factors such as genetic, alcohol
abuse, infectious myocarditis, chemotherapeutic agents etc. also account for significant number of
cases.5, 6 The symptoms of decompensated HF are very non–specific (shortness of breath, fatigue,
weakness, etc.) and need evaluation in the context of the overall clinical picture, which includes
signs like extremity edema, jugular venous distention, S3).5, 7 Tests like BNP, ECG, CXR,

Ventricular Fibrillation And Its Effects On The Heart
Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a life–threatening condition in which the signaling in the ventricles of
the hearts is no longer coordinated. The loss of this coordinated signaling causes rapid, random and
chaotic signaling leading to spasms of the ventricular walls. During VF, blood is not being circulated
to the brains and the rest of the body and is therefore deprived of oxygen. This condition can be
reversed by using a defibrillator, which sends an electric discharge of direct current to the victim (1).
Improper signaling of electrical activity in the heart can also lead to a rapid heart rate. This type of
tachycardia is called ventricular tachycardia (VT) and may lead to VF (Figure 1). Pulseless VT is
also with defibrillation and VF and VT are both considered shockable heart rhythms (2,3).
A large and increasing proportion of patients presents with non–shockable rhythms in out–of–
hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). These non–shockable rhythms are pulseless electrical activity
(PEA) and asystole. During PEA, a normal heart rhythm is observed on the electrocardiogram
(ECG), but without cardiac output. Asystole is a condition without ventricular complexes. The heart
muscles fail to contract due to the lack of cardiac electrical activity. Both PEA and asystole are
treated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without defibrillation, combined with epinephrine
administered intravenously (4). Non–shockable rhythms are associated with high mortality. The
survival rates of PEA

A Research On Anxiety And Phobias
Anxiety and phobias can be induced via mechanisms involving a variety of stimuli. Fear–inducing
stimuli can trigger the formation of fear memories via classical conditioning that can be
reconsolidated if the reminder of the stimuli or the specific fear–associated stimulus itself is present.
Recently, as well as over years of research, efforts have been made to understand the manner in
which the fear memory pathways are consolidated and paved with the goal of learning how to
inhibit or undermine the reconsolidation of such pathways. Knowledge obtained through
experimentation involving a noradrenergic beta–blocker, propranolol HCl, has demonstrated that
this pharmacological antagonist acting against beta–adrenergic receptors present in the amygdala
can disrupt the fear memory pathway. Although this information has been helpful in understanding
the circuitry of fear memories and the role of inhibition in such pathways, it has also led to more
questions pertaining to clinical applications of drugs such as propranolol HCl. In fact, Marieke
Soeter and Merel Kindt sought to understand the role of propranolol HCl in impeding the
reconsolidation of fear memories in a group of spider phobic women in a recent study. Throughout
this analysis, the purpose, research methods, results, conclusions, potential problems, and future
directions of this study will be considered. To begin, production of the study required knowledge of
fear memory and its role in the brain. As with any memory,

Ethiopian and Soviet Immigration and Their Impacts on Israeli Society
Israel is a state complete with a multitude of ethnicities. As Jews began to immigrate to the newly
formed state, they brought with them distinctive cultural values and traditions that shifted Israel
from a more homogenized community into a definite "melting pot". Significant waves of Jews came
from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and even North America. The impact each of these
groups had on Israeli society differed from group to group. Two of the most recent waves of
immigrants to Israel came from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. Both groups changed the
dynamic of Israeli society in ways previous groups had not.
In Israel today there are 125,500 Ethiopian Jews. This constitutes 1.75% of the total population and
makes Israel home to the largest Ethiopian Jewish community. This group lived predominantly in
the North and Northwestern parts of Ethiopia and can trace its origins back to biblical times, when
many Jews migrated to Ethiopia following the exile of Jews in Egypt. According to tradition, in the
4th century CE this group was pressured to convert to Christianity and refused. They became known
by the term "Beta Israel", meaning "house of Israel".
In modern times, they have lived among Christian and Muslim communities in Ethiopia. In the 20th
century, Beta Israel renewed contracts with other Jewish communities. Because of the instability and
violence that

Sepsis is a clinical syndrome that arises from inflammatory response to infection. The response from
the host is associated with immune, hormonal, metabolic, bioenergetic and autonomic nervous
system modification. This is associated with an overall catabolic state, excessive adrenergic
stimulation, high catecholamine levels and myocardial depression. This effects are mainly mediated
via cathecholaminergic action and cytokine production (1). β–blockers modulate both these
pathways. There are several studies that have shown the benefits of β–blockers in sepsis. Animal

In the early stages of this disease Reagan stated; "I have begun the journey that will lead me into the

avenues entertains the idea that these amyloid plaque proteins are the cause of changes in the brain.
"The damage occurs when neurons congregate and form protein masses called amyloids that are
water–soluble in normal brains but undergo structural changes and can't be dissolved in Alzheimer's
patients. The masses disrupt nerve cell functions and begin to cause symptoms such as the loss of
short–term memory. The deterioration of the brain is accompanied by a drop–off in the production
of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which plays a key role in cognitive functioning" (p.444). I do
believe that these amyloid plaques do play a role in the changes observed. These tangles and plaques
are kind of the tell–tale sign that Alzheimer's is present. The missing piece to the puzzle is, What
gets the ball rolling? What causes these changes to occur? I am confident that if we can find the
answers to these questions, that we can find a cure. Next, I would like to focus on the statistical
analysis and treatment of this disease. As of now, there is no cure to Alzheimer's. There are many

Nuclear forces have been around the human race since the beginning of time, though it was not until
recently that people began to understand it. Nuclear decay has helped scientists discover how long

such as cancer. Nuclear forces have also provided an alternative energy source to coal and natural

Nuclear medicine however has made it possible to treat cancer. One of the forms of cancer
treatments that involve radioactive materials is radiation therapy. Radiation therapy utilizes X and
gamma rays to target and kill the cancer cells. "Radiation therapy kills cancer cells by damaging
their DNA. Radiation can either damage the DNA directly or create charged particles in cells that in
turn damage the DNA." ("Radiation Therapy for Cancer") Radiation therapy affects only the
selected area of treatment, whereas other treatments such as chemo therapy affects the entire body.
Radiation therapy can be administered two different ways. The first method of administration is
internally. Radiation is injected directly into the blood stream where it travels to the cancerous area.
The other method of administering radiation therapy is externally. "Many types of external–beam
radiation therapy are delivered using a machine called a linear accelerator (also called a LINAC). A

Throughout the bible, the people of Ethiopia had intermingled and intermarried with the descendants

Causes And Treatment Of Sepsis
REVIEW OF LITRATURE

Race In Eretz-Israel
On November 29th, 1947 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for the
establishmen tof a Jewish State in Israel. This recognition by the General Assembly, combined with
that of the United States and the USSR, paved the way for David Ben– Gurion to anounce the
formation fo the Israeli State on May 14th, 1948. The Israeli State arose out of the zulmination of
the Zionist movement to create the Jewish State arising at a time of the Nazi holocaust, which was
the latest in a historical series of anti– Jewish actions. Israel was explicitly established to be "A
Jewish State in Eretz– Israel" with implict religious and cultural protection for those who were
defined as Jewish. However, as the case study of the Beta Israel community ... Show more content

Ethiopian Jews were not classified as Jews and therefore not allowed entry into the ISrael until
1973, 23 years after the right to return was officially established. Ethiopian Jews, despite being
categorized as Jews, were forced to go through an assimilation or conversion process upon arriving
in Israel to prove their faith in Judaism. The absorption centers that Ethiopians were sent to, claiemd
to be a necessary stepping stone into Israeli society, are sites ofe conomic distress and harsh living
conditions. The living conditions in Israel are not the same for African Jews as for Jews of other
heritages. Ethiopians in Israel are subject to racial slurs, including usage of the N word, 75% of
families live below the poverty line, 2/3 are in need of assistance, and unemployment. Overtly racist
incidents, such as a bus driver refusing to let a Black woman on a bus in 2009, Israeli children
throwing stones at Ethiopian soldiers, and settlers becoming hostile if arrested by Black Israeli
Defense Force soldiers are entirely common. Avi Maspin of the Israel ASsociation for Ethiopian
Jews acknowleges that "racism is a word that I have feared using until now, because I did not
believe that it could exist in Israel in 2007, but the time has come to call a spade a spade. Israeli
society is profoundly infected

Design A Novel Strategy Targeting Asd Risk Genes Involved...

  • 1. Design A Novel Strategy Targeting Asd Risk Genes Involved... There is a critical need to design a novel strategy targeting ASD risk genes involved in the Wnt pathway. The major gap in current knowledge that we will address in this proposal is to determine how PV neuron– specific CTNNB1 KO affects animal behaviors and to what extent Wnt agonists reverse the behavioral deficits. We expect to identify the defect that is involved in PV neurons specific to CTNNB1 knockout mice. Moreover, we have identified several bioactive compounds with diverse mechanisms of action that can potentiate the Wnt pathway in human NPCs, including approved drugs and probes suitable for in vivo use31, 32. Repurposing these drugs for ASD will be exciting because they act through different mechanisms than current experimental therapies now. Our cKO mice provide an ideal animal model to examine the extent to which targeting Wnt pathway can ameliorate the behavioral deficits. If small molecules targeting Wnt pathway in this study can alleviate behavioral deficits, a whole new "druggable" pathway will further identify more active molecules/drugs that can be directly applied to the ASD patients. This contribution will be significant because it is an important step to allow modulation of the Wnt signaling pathway at interneurons and may lead to development of a pharmacologic approach to correct ASD–related behavioral defects, thereby improving the lives of ASD patients. What is learned in this study will be applicable to other ASDs caused by mutations associated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. A Mixture Of Historical And Currents Facts About Israel Essay Global Business Country Profile (Part 1): Getting to Know Israel Autiyonna Johnson February 28, 2016 Global Business 310 This paper examines a mixture of historical and currents facts about Israel. Specifically, the country is placed under the microscope in order to explain history of origin, geographical location, statistical demographics, government structure, and military structure. Together, these findings based on detailed research suggests that Israel is a country rich in complex history that predates centuries before its inception. Keywords: Israel, Jewish, economy, technology, Middle East History of Origin One can say that the modern state of Israel is a direct result of World War II. Following the war, The British Mandate for Palestine (1920), which directed the administrative control by Britain of the territory formally under Ottoman Empire rule, ended on May 14, 1948. According to the United States Central Intelligence Agency (2016), or CIA, the United Nations then proposed a plan that would divide that same area into Jewish and Arab states after millions of Jews were displaced from Nazi–Germany. On the same day, inspired by the dream of Jewish sovereignty, Israel was declared a state in Tel Aviv (State of Israel Proclaimed," 2010). David Ben–Gurion then became the first Prime Minister of Israel and is widely known as the father and architect of the country. The declaration of Israel was a move widely rejected by Arab Nations and resulted in massive tensions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Statement Of Purpose In Microbiology From the very beginning of my student life, I loved biology. When I was in my lower secondary school, I still remember that day when my science teacher told me the story of microbes and the day after showed and taught applications of microscope, my interest in microbiology started to take its shape. I became even intensely interested when he told us that bacteria and virus are invisible to your naked eyes, however they can cause you disease and some might kill you. After the completion of my high school as a science major student, my parents wanted me to join medical school and become a doctor. But I had already encrypted curiosity of microbiology inside my mind. So, I began my journey into the world of microbiology. I secretly joined microbiology without telling my parents and told them that I am not shortlisted in MBBS exam. My interest in microbiology deepened during my bachelors degree while studing Medical Microbiology at Trichandra college. While in bachelors degree, I learned how to manage time in stressful conditions besides laying a firm base on the basics of Microbiology and lab practices. By doing so, billions of dollars and countless lives can be saved around the globe. • 7. The Causes And Treatment Of Sepsis The term "sepsis" has been around since prehistoric times. Hippocrates presented the word sepsis 2400 years ago to represent a condition where an overwhelming infection leads to tissue breakdown with rotting, foul odour, and disease. The ancient Roman scholar and writer (116 BC–27 BC), Marcus Terentius Varro mentioned that "small creatures, invisible to the eye, fill the atmosphere, and breathed through the nose cause dangerous diseases." In the early 1990s at a conference convened by the American College of Chest Physicians and the Society of Critical Care Medicine modern definitions of "sepsis" were termed in detail. At that time, "sepsis" was described as a systemic response to a physiologic insult including infections and other etiologies that lead to the development of further organ injury, ultimately culminating in multiple organ dysfunction syndromes. The word "bacteraemia" is used when bacteria are isolated from the blood whether clinical symptoms are present or not while the words "sepsis" or "septicaemia" is used for the isolation of bacteria in blood in combination with clinical symptoms and signs of infections. Neonatal sepsis, also named "Sepsis neonatorum", represents to a group of physical and laboratory findings that occur in response to invasive infection within the first 30 days (neonatal) of life. Criteria for neonatal sepsis should include documentation of infection in a newborn infant (0– 28days) with a serious systemic illness in which noninfectious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Anabolic Steroids Should Be Banned Research Paper There are many substances that are banned in the world of athletics. Almost no matter what governing body you look at for a sports association the list of banned substances is the same. The USADA, the NCAA, and WADA are the three largest organizations that I have found and all of them bann the same substances. There list include, but are not limited too stimulants, anabolic agents, beta blockers, diuretics and other masking agents, growth factors, street drugs, and anything chemically related to items on the list. It also continued into procedures that it considered illegal which included blood doping, gene doping, local anesthetics, and beta–2 agonists ("2016–17 NCAA Banned Drug List" 2016). While most people may not know what these are and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With athletes these aren't really viewed as performance enhancers but are illegal, so are still placed on the banned substance list. The common effects of almost any street drug is it gives a feeling of euphoria, and also makes that person feel invincible, which are the side effects that make people like them. They also cause nausea and vomiting, the failure to recognize injury, and eventually your body develops a dependence on them. One of the specific street drugs I'm gonna mention is marijuana. While it's not viewed as a "hard drug" it still has side effects that people can either view as fun or dangerous. These side effects impair short–term memory, increased heart rate, difficulty concentrating, and slowed reflexes. It also causes mood swings and impairs comprehensive thinking ("Effects of Performance Enhancers" 2014). These side effects happen very quickly due to how marijuana is usually introduced to a person system. The reason it acts so quickly is explained on the National Institute on Drug Abuse website, "When a person smokes marijuana, THC quickly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream. The blood carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body" ("Drug Facts–Marijuana" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Little did I know, that the activity would go much deeper than just being a class activity. Bafa Bafa simulates the human interactions in the world as we know it. It teaches a lesson of diversities and miscommunications between them. It permits everyone and anyone to experience the notion of being "foreign" or an "outcast". In Bafa Bafa, I was a part of the Alpha culture. In order to collaborate with my classmates, I had to dim my strong feminist attitude in order to play along in the patriarch culture. I wasn 't particularly phased by the close proximity and close contact interactions as these were already engrained in me. I quickly realized that a connection was forming between the students that were forming the Alpha culture. Whether this was due to close interactions or passion of playing an act, I do not know, but the feeling of membership was strong and present. The rules were even well tolerated and respected, as no deviants were actually really present in the group. I was observing and becoming part of an "in–group" mentality as referred to in Psychology. I was an Alpha and by God, I will play this game well and right to be a really good Alpha. My mentality went from being a class member of EDU 150 to being a member of culture Alpha. I also noticed a change in regards to culture Beta, my other classmates from EDU 150. When presented at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research Paper On Ethiopia Jamie Wells Professor Amaya HTM 421 April 3, 2017 Ethiopia Research Paper When it comes to things that are needed to sustain life, often times, these things are just part of the daily routine and have no positive, emotional stimulation. Food, on the other hand, is also required in order to survive, but for many it is one of the best parts of the day. Even though eating food is one of the most repetitive things we do as humans, it never gets old and is always exciting. Eating is almost always something that individuals look forward to and gives them a sense of joy. Each culture has a different approach on food eating habits and ways in which food is prepared, enjoyed, and consumed. Often times food practices by humans are determined by values, attitudes, beliefs, and environmental and religious circumstances; all of which are the products of tradition, culture, and contacts (Onuorah and Ayo, 2003). These unique variations in food consumption and food preparation make food habits absolutely fascinating and culturally distinct. Culture plays a significant role in determining food patterns. An example of this is evident in Ethiopian food. In the Ethiopian culture, vegetables and very spicy meat dishes are often indicative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Judiasm & Rastafarianism: A study of the Falashas Essay Judiasm & Rastafarianism: A study of the Falashas In this research paper I will discuss the ethnic groups of Africans in the Caribbean and Jews in Ethiopia. Jews in Ethiopia call themselves Beta Israel which means `house of Israel.' They are also known as the Falashas. Falasha means `stranger' or `immigrant' in the classical language of Ethiopia (the Ge'ez tongue). I will also describe the culture of the African people displaced into the Caribbean who identify themselves as the Rastafarians and the connections I have made between them and Judaism. I believe that these connections between Judaism and Rastafarianism are more than just similarities that can be found between any two Bible– following religions. I choose the Falashas as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Jews are still waiting for the messiah, Rastas believe that the messiah has already come (and, unfortunately, gone) in the form of the last Emperor of Ethiopia, His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie I."Today man sees all his hopes and aspirations crumble before him. He is perplexed and knows not whither he is drifting. But he must realise that the solution of his present difficulties and guidance for his future action is the Bible. Unless he accepts with clear conscience the Bible and its great message, he cannot hope for salvation. For myself, I glory in the Bible."– Selassie I Emperor Haile Selassie is a direct descendant of King Salomon and the Queen of Sheba; not surprisingly the African people of the Caribbean looked to Selassie as their savior. They were taken from their motherland, Africa, in times of slavery and sought repatriation. Their situation made belief in a white god unrealistic. Selassie I was their Savior. It was on the day of November 2, 1930, when Selassie was crowned Emperor, that he assumed his name meaning"the power of the Holy Trinity". Since then, he has been called many names including King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and the Conquering Lion of Judah – all of which are taken from the book of Revelations. • 19. A Short Note On Classification Of Β -lactamases 1.6.1 Classification of β–lactamases Two major schemes for classification of β–lactamases are currently in use. The molecular classification of β–lactamases is based on the amino acid sequence homology dividing them into four classes A through D. The enzymes belonging to class A, C and D utilize serine residue for substrate hydrolysis while class B enzymes (metallo–β–lactamases) utilize divalent zinc ions for β– lactam hydrolysis [Ambler R. P. et al, 1991]. The functional classification is based on the substrate and inhibitor profiles of the enzymes [Bush K. et al, 1995; Bush & Jacoby, 2010]. The inhibitors used in this scheme are Clavulanic acid, tazobactam and EDTA. The β–lactamases can be loosely identified based on their substrate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However with the advent of each new class of antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, new β– lactamases emerged that caused resistance to that particular class of drug. It is assumed that the overuse of new antibiotics in the treatment of patients created a selective pressure eventually selecting for new variants of β–lactamase. One of the new classes of antibiotics introduced was the oximino–cephalosporins which owing to their excellent activity became widely used for the treatment of serious infections due to gram negative bacteria in the 1980s. Not surprisingly, resistance due to production of β–lactamases against this expanded spectrum β–lactam antibiotics soon emerged. These β–lactamases were named as extended–spectrum β–lactamases (ESBLs) because of their increased spectrum of activity especially against the oximino–cephalosporins. The first ESBL capable of hydrolyzing the newer β– lactams was SHV–2 found in a strain Klebsiella ozaenae in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here they achieved independence and created a culture of national and universal significance. Here they wrote and gave the Bible to the world. Exiled from the Land of Israel, the Jewish people remained faithful to it in all the countries of their dispersion. The Jewish Nation had been wandering around deserts, were once slaves in Egypt, but didn't have any land to their name; in 1948 the Jewish Nation finally had a place to call home, known as Israel to this day. Current medical publications recommend a heart rate less than 60 beats/min for optimal image and radiation dose reduction. Patients undergoing CCTA are usually given beta–blockers if there are no contraindications one hour before the test to control the heart rate. Another method that is used in moderating the heart rate of patients undergoing CCTA is ivabradine. Ivabradine is a novel heart rate–reducing agent that has the potential to be an attractive alternative to currently available drugs to achieve optimal heart rate control in patients undergoing CCTA (Adile et al., 2012). It is a specific heart rate–lowering drug that acts by selectively inhibiting the pacemaker current in the sinoatrial node. Unlike beta–blockers, ivabradine does not affect myocardial contractility, does not cause changes in blood pressure, and has no effect on respiratory function. They are manufactured through the processes of transcription and translation, which take place inside the cells. More specifically, they are synthesised by ribosomes (Shakhnovich, 2007). Figure 1.1 shows the overall processes that can occur in making a fully functionally active protein. (Ghelis, 2012). Functional properties of certain proteins include, but is not limited to: structural composition of the cytoskeleton in cells, catalysing biochemical reactions and hormones such as insulin to regulate blood sugar concentration (O'Connor & Adams, 2014). Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common aging disorder affecting millions of people worldwide (Apostolova & Cummings, 2007) and is caused by the misfolding of proteins, causing neuronal degeneration (Ramirez–Alvarado, Kelly & Dobson, 2010). Structures known as sinile plaques, which have inner cores of beta amyloid fibrils, are found in the brains parenchyma and on the walls of the cerebral blood vessels of people with AD (Vinters, Wang & Secor, 1996). It was discovered by John Hardy and his research team in 1991 that a hereditary form of Alzheimer's is caused by a mutation in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) (Taubes, 1996) This protein is a glycoprotein thought to carry out functions in neuronal survival and synaptic stability (Apostolova & Cummings, 2007). When mutated, the alpha helix native structure is transformed into a beta sheet conformation. This results in the insoluble protein accumulating in the brain and extracellular aggregation of beta amyloid (Forloni et al., 2002), by catalysing other proteins into their abnormal state – an infective conformation (Ashraf et al, 2014) and aggregate, which is when continued negative feedback will occur with the generation of more insoluble fibrils (Apostolova & Cummings, ... ACE inhibitors can help slow progression of heart failure and improve symptoms. ACE inhibitors block the action of a protein (enzyme) that causes blood vessels to narrow. As a result, blood vessels relax and widen. This lowers blood pressure and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood. These medicines also help body release water and sodium, which also helps lower blood pressure. ACE inhibitors relieve heart failure symptoms, such as fluid retention and edema. They may help reduce liver disease and prevent readmission to the hospital. Examples of ACE inhibitors are Captopril, Enalapril, Lisinopril, Quinapril, and Ramipril. ... According to the health physics society, radiation is an energy that comes from a source and travels through space which may be able to penetrate various materials. In the past few weeks of our chemistry class I have learned that atoms whom have an unstable nuclei are radioactive, these atoms give off excess energy which are radiation rays. Radiation varies from gamma, beta, and alpha rays. Gamma rays have the shortest wavelengths and highest frequencies. Gamma rays are the most energetic form of light produced by the hottest regions of the universe and emitted by the nucleus of radioactive atoms. Because of this, gamma rays are used to penetrate tissue property, such as in the use of CT scans, and radiation therapy. Alpha particles are also ejected by the nuclei of unstable atoms; however, they are large and consist of two protons and two neutrons. Although alpha particles have a high mass, they are the most destructive form of radiation with a low penetrating force; a single piece of paper can block alpha particles. Beta particles are much ... The problem of marginalization began with the waves of Jewish immigrants from Europe who fled the Russion pogroms and later the Nazis. In their homelands, these people were Jewish, but in America they had the opportunity to be white. The Drug For Treating Bacterial Infections LITERATURE REVIEW β lactam antibiotics have continued to be the most popular drug for treating bacterial infections since its discovery in 1928 by Fleming and its introduction as an antibacterial agent in the early 1950.1 Most commonly used β lactam drugs today stems from the original discovery and development of natural products from microorganisms like penicillin, cephalosporin and other β lactam based antibiotics (Figure 1). 1,2 However, soon after its commercialization and widespread usage, β lactamase secreting penicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated.3 The introduction of methicillin (a β lactamase–insensitive semi–synthetic penicillin), to curb the resistance problem resulted in the evolution of another resistant strain known as methicillin–resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).4 Figure 1: Some β lactam antibiotics Resistance to β lactams is easy for bacteria as all β lactams shared the same mode of action, which is the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by forming stable covalent adducts with the active site serine residues of penicillin binding proteins (PBPs). The PBPS are often divided into two partitions; the high molecular weight PBPs (HMW–PBPs) and the low–molecular weight PBPs (LMW–PBPs). Ventricular Fibrillation And Its Effects On The Heart Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a life–threatening condition in which the signaling in the ventricles of the hearts is no longer coordinated. The loss of this coordinated signaling causes rapid, random and chaotic signaling leading to spasms of the ventricular walls. During VF, blood is not being circulated to the brains and the rest of the body and is therefore deprived of oxygen. This condition can be reversed by using a defibrillator, which sends an electric discharge of direct current to the victim (1). Improper signaling of electrical activity in the heart can also lead to a rapid heart rate. This type of tachycardia is called ventricular tachycardia (VT) and may lead to VF (Figure 1). Pulseless VT is also with defibrillation and VF and VT are both considered shockable heart rhythms (2,3). A large and increasing proportion of patients presents with non–shockable rhythms in out–of– hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). These non–shockable rhythms are pulseless electrical activity (PEA) and asystole. During PEA, a normal heart rhythm is observed on the electrocardiogram (ECG), but without cardiac output. Asystole is a condition without ventricular complexes. The heart muscles fail to contract due to the lack of cardiac electrical activity. Both PEA and asystole are treated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without defibrillation, combined with epinephrine administered intravenously (4). Non–shockable rhythms are associated with high mortality. The survival rates of PEA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. A Research On Anxiety And Phobias Anxiety and phobias can be induced via mechanisms involving a variety of stimuli. Fear–inducing stimuli can trigger the formation of fear memories via classical conditioning that can be reconsolidated if the reminder of the stimuli or the specific fear–associated stimulus itself is present. Recently, as well as over years of research, efforts have been made to understand the manner in which the fear memory pathways are consolidated and paved with the goal of learning how to inhibit or undermine the reconsolidation of such pathways. Knowledge obtained through experimentation involving a noradrenergic beta–blocker, propranolol HCl, has demonstrated that this pharmacological antagonist acting against beta–adrenergic receptors present in the amygdala can disrupt the fear memory pathway. Although this information has been helpful in understanding the circuitry of fear memories and the role of inhibition in such pathways, it has also led to more questions pertaining to clinical applications of drugs such as propranolol HCl. In fact, Marieke Soeter and Merel Kindt sought to understand the role of propranolol HCl in impeding the reconsolidation of fear memories in a group of spider phobic women in a recent study. Throughout this analysis, the purpose, research methods, results, conclusions, potential problems, and future directions of this study will be considered. To begin, production of the study required knowledge of fear memory and its role in the brain. As with any memory, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Ethiopian And Soviet Immigration And Their Impacts On... Ethiopian and Soviet Immigration and Their Impacts on Israeli Society Israel is a state complete with a multitude of ethnicities. As Jews began to immigrate to the newly formed state, they brought with them distinctive cultural values and traditions that shifted Israel from a more homogenized community into a definite "melting pot". Significant waves of Jews came from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and even North America. The impact each of these groups had on Israeli society differed from group to group. Two of the most recent waves of immigrants to Israel came from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. Both groups changed the dynamic of Israeli society in ways previous groups had not. In Israel today there are 125,500 Ethiopian Jews. This constitutes 1.75% of the total population and makes Israel home to the largest Ethiopian Jewish community. This group lived predominantly in the North and Northwestern parts of Ethiopia and can trace its origins back to biblical times, when many Jews migrated to Ethiopia following the exile of Jews in Egypt. According to tradition, in the 4th century CE this group was pressured to convert to Christianity and refused. They became known by the term "Beta Israel", meaning "house of Israel". In modern times, they have lived among Christian and Muslim communities in Ethiopia. In the 20th century, Beta Israel renewed contracts with other Jewish communities. • 63. A Clinical Syndrome Introduction Sepsis is a clinical syndrome that arises from inflammatory response to infection. The response from the host is associated with immune, hormonal, metabolic, bioenergetic and autonomic nervous system modification. This is associated with an overall catabolic state, excessive adrenergic stimulation, high catecholamine levels and myocardial depression. This effects are mainly mediated via cathecholaminergic action and cytokine production (1). β–blockers modulate both these pathways. There are several studies that have shown the benefits of β–blockers in sepsis. Animal studies have shown benefits of β–blockers (2,3,4,5). Denise Bechtold Professor Ostrander English 1107: 30 November 6, 2017 Are Amyloid Drug Therapies still the Best Target for Alzheimer's Disease? Parts of their brain literally have begun to die, and with it, goes their livelihood. Before becoming a home health aide, I had heard of dementia and Alzheimer's, but I had never seen it first–hand. In the early stages of this disease Reagan stated; "I have begun the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life." Research has been underway for years and years. One of the more promising avenues entertains the idea that these amyloid plaque proteins are the cause of changes in the brain. "The damage occurs when neurons congregate and form protein masses called amyloids that are water–soluble in normal brains but undergo structural changes and can't be dissolved in Alzheimer's patients. The masses disrupt nerve cell functions and begin to cause symptoms such as the loss of short–term memory. The deterioration of the brain is accompanied by a drop–off in the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which plays a key role in cognitive functioning" (p.444). I do believe that these amyloid plaques do play a role in the changes observed. These tangles and plaques are kind of the tell–tale sign that Alzheimer's is present. The missing piece to the puzzle is, What gets the ball rolling? What causes these changes to occur? I am confident that if we can find the answers to these questions, that we can find a cure. Next, I would like to focus on the statistical analysis and treatment of this disease. As of now, there is no cure to Alzheimer's. There are many different clinical trials and pharmaceutical drugs being tested. I again searched the Anoka Technical databases and came across another article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Radiation can either damage the DNA directly or create charged particles in cells that in turn damage the DNA." ("Radiation Therapy for Cancer") Radiation therapy affects only the selected area of treatment, whereas other treatments such as chemo therapy affects the entire body. Radiation therapy can be administered two different ways. The first method of administration is internally. Radiation is injected directly into the blood stream where it travels to the cancerous area. The other method of administering radiation therapy is externally. "Many types of external–beam radiation therapy are delivered using a machine called a linear accelerator (also called a LINAC). • 75. Causes And Treatment Of Sepsis REVIEW OF LITRATURE The term "sepsis" has been around since prehistoric times. Criteria for neonatal sepsis should include documentation of infection in a newborn infant (0– 28days) with a serious systemic illness in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
