Analysis of the State of the New Media Art
The article is an analysis of the state of the new media art. The new media uses digital
communication to express its artwork and Muir (2002) choses certain works as illustrative examples
of their format. Their spectrum was so–called old, middle–aged and modern digital art that spanned
the 19th century to the present moment. Their first example was June Paik's "magnet TV" 91965).
Paik integrated music, video,a nd sculptural forms of objects in order to convey modern relationship
to TV. Intending to convey the omnipotence of TV, Paik's aforementioned sculpture consisted of a
large magnet on top of a television set. The magnet was manipulated by hand to create abstract
patterns of light inside the monitor. The work was deliberately constructed in a simple way so as to
arouse discussion and thought regarding the all–powerful influence and, some would say,
insidiousness, of TV. Nicholas Schoffer is called the Father of Cybernetics and Video Art. He is
another example of creators of media Art. Schoffer's sculptures combining electronics with
sculpture included his 52 meter high cybernetics "Tower of Liege', which consisted of mirrors,

Cross Cultural Conflict : A Multi Cultural Workforce Essay
Cross–cultural conflict is important in a multi–cultural workforce. In a globalized world conflict
appears to occur frequently. Several things are thought to be correlated with I.C (Interpersonal
Conflict) among diverse groups and cultures. Culture has a direct effect and mediated effect on
conflict behavior. Face concerns among parent and sibling in Germany, Japan, Mexico, and U.S
were examined by researchers. They collected answers from 449 participants among these four
groups (Oatzel et al.2003). The sample was drawn from students 450 females and 300 males with
mean age 21.54, SD 3.76. It studied face concern and conflict style relationship. Self–Face is
associated positively with dominating conflict styles. Other–Face associated with avoiding conflict
styles. Results showed that Dominating Styles were self–face and concerned with one 's own image.
Other–Face is concerned with other 's image. Of the demographic groups that participated Other–
Face Styles are higher in China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan. Cultural Individualism–Collectivism
had direct effects on conflict styles. Avoiding conflict, integrating, obliging are higher among
Chinese students face concerns, American western students have a dominating style of face concern
and more individualist.

I was 18 when we moved to the United States from Cameroon in 2010. I had always known I
wanted to be in journalism, yet had little knowledge of how the media worked or what being a
journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories, and zero experience or hope that I would

Choo Jing Introduction Born in year 1990, Sarah Choo Jing who is a Singaporean is currently a
student pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts in Fine Art Media at the University College London
(Choo, 2014). She is a Multidisciplinary Fine Artist who has won the 3rd edition Julia Margaret
Cameron Award during her participation at The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards in 2012 and
was awarded with the Kwek Leng Joo Prize of Excellence in Still Photography Award in 2013
(Choo, 2014). In all her artworks, Choo has reflected upon the socio–cultural norms of the modern
society, highlighting relatable moments and characters. She was inspired by Octovio Paz who stated
that the deep–rooted fact of the human condition is solitude, and only Man knows that he is alone
and seeks for company. Choo (2014) explained that Singaporeans face a significant phenomenal
issue – solitude – despite living in a highly populated society. In her notable work titled 'The Hidden
Dimension II' (see Figure 1 above), Choo has reflected on this 'solitude' phenomenon by questioning

There are numerous upon numerous different styles of art from traditional art to new media art.
Traditional genres of art such as painting, drawing and ceramics create pieces of work that are done
by hand. Unlike traditional art, new media art has pieces of work created by digital machines and
other technological devices. In addition, digital media art can be in a form of a video, sculpture,
installation art ,photography, robotics, audio and many other formulations.
In the reading "New Media Art – Introduction" written by Mark Tribe,the author talks about
technology and art becoming new media art. together. According to Tribe in the reading, "We use
the term New Media art to describe projects that make use of emerging media technologies and are
concerned with the cultural, political, and aesthetic possibilities of these tools" (Tribe, 1). In this
quote, the the author interprets new art form as electrical pieces of work to help give out a message;
whether it is controversial, aesthetic, or racial topics that connect within our society. In addition,
new media art can represent all of these element, some of these elements or even one of these
elements. I strongly agree with the author's definition of new media art because in learning and
researching about new media I have found three new media artists that support the author's

Spectacle and the Universal: ISIL's Impact on Canadian Constructions of Heritage and Islam
Context and Research Question: In August 2015, after capturing the ancient Roman site of Palmyra,
the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) spectacularly exploded the remains of the Temple of
Bel and the Temple of Baalshamin. They immediately spread the images of their destruction online
by creating videos and news reports. ISIL's acts of destruction mark the largest–scale mass
destruction of antiquities by one group since the Second World War (Kulish and Myers 2016), and
their videos are extremely effective in disseminating their spectacles outside of the Middle East.
Scholars in art history, archaeology, and law consider these acts the destruction of cultural heritage
(Harmanşah 2015; Bauer 2015; Brodie 2015; Drasewska 2015; He 2015; Kila 2015). In particular,
ISIL's videos seek to defy Western European ideas about cultural heritage which are often cast as
universal (Meskell 2002, 568) and engage a worldwide audience through carefully articulated
performances. However, the many Canadian journalists using digital media to protest the
destruction and reassert their own humanitarian, cosmopolitan, and civilized heritage values clearly

The reworking and regeneration of already existing cultural works through the processes of
borrowing, stealing, recycling, appropriating and collaging has become a dominant creative strategy
in contemporary art and design, particularly fortified by Postmodernity. Martino Gamper, sister duo
Soda_Jerk and Glenn Brown are significant artists in this 'remix culture' that redefine the way the
world is perceived through the reproduction and recyclability of their works and the works of others.
Remix culture, or 'read–write culture' , lets people generate "art as readily as they consume it" . In
Lawrence Lessig's book Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy, he
argues that the contemporary generation's form of 'literacy' is technologically–based . In this

Crimes and criminal law have always been a sensitive subject with the people; criminal law
concerns itself with issues such as morality, authority, equity and integrity – all of which are aspects
on which the public may have strong beliefs; strong but suggestible. It is well known that finances,
media, education and law are fundamental to a society – two of them are also inherently linked
through society: media and law. The media affects society's perspective and values which, in turn,
shape the law. What is little known, perhaps, is the depth of control that the media possesses over

Compared with words like "freedom fighter" or "undisclosed plan" – it is plain that the difference
here is perspective: and the one chosen by the media reflects that of the nation. To give an example:
typing in "Muslim terrorist" into Google yields 247 000 results versus the 202 000 that "Christian
terrorist" gives. Looking up the phrase "Muslim freedom fighter" gives 342 000 results versus the
440 000 that "Christian freedom fighter" yields: these are only pages from Canada, the discrepancy
increases when the whole web is searched. The perpetuation of words with certain connotations onto
certain groups or ethnicities is done through repetition, and the technique works. It creates
stereotypes that society adopts – why is it that someone with an Arabic sounding name is more
likely to get a special security screening at the airport compared to an English man – or – that a
black man is more likely to be suspected of a crime than a Caucasian woman? These stereotypes,
largely developed by the media, can have a large impact on criminal trials in Canada. Particularly,
criminal trials involving a jury in which their subconscious biases may sway them towards a
particular verdict. It also happens when law enforcement officers make assumptions based on racial
profiling, this was seen in the case of R. vs Brown where Brown thought that his arrest was based
