Editing the documentary
1.
2. Initially, after creating a Premiere project we
added a cutaway over a interview audio in order
to start the timeline and get to grips with the
program.
3. Next we balanced audio between right and left,
and balanced audio to avoid peaking sound.
This kept the audio smooth and would cancel
out any harsh sounds in the background.
4. We began to experiment with visual
transitions and added a wipe transition effect
to the cutaway to make a smooth transition.
5. A problem that was apparent with one piece of
footage was that the audio was missing,
however to overcome this we synced the audio
from two different files to replace the lost
audio from an equipment malfunction.
6. Next, we began to cut down clips and
form a time line with cutaways and
different angles in order to represent it.
7. We then added in interview with Amanda
Goarke to form a narrative for our
documentary. Gatekeeping was apparent in
order to convey the message that we
wanted to feature.
8. Another issue was found however we fixed this by
synchronising the audio from the clip mic to the video from
the use of the second camera. It was important we got the
audio to match with the clip mic audio as this would give it a
professional and higher standard look, making it look more
realistic.
9. Next an Amanda Groarke nameplate graphic was
added to help identify her to the audience upon
her initial introduction to the documentary.
10. We then added an interview with Stacey Copeland.
We ensured we added nameplate graphic, as this
follows conventions and allows the audience to be
aware of who the individual is and what role she
play’s in society.
11. Added audio and video transitions to Stacey
Copeland’s interview creating a smooth
transition.
12. Added intro footage, to start the documentary
including archive footage of Muhammad Ali’s
famous line ‘I am the greatest’. As well as pieces
of footage of boxers training at various different
gyms we had visited. We then introduced the song
Seven Nation Army into the soundbed.
13. Altered audio track for intro so it
ended at a suitable point rather than
abruptly.
14. Next we added intro graphic to a panning shot
of a location which displayed the title of the
documentary in red font followed by a black
block background.
15. We decided to remove the Mark
Drew interview from the
documentary due to his lack of
relevance to the overall
documentary, his time was used to
add other interviews that had more
relevance to the documentary..
16. Added Chris VC and accompanying cutaway
footage to bridge topic to make the
documentary run smoothly.
17. Added Laila Ali interview (archive) to the
documentary and altered the audio of the clip
to allow it to transition into one of our own
interviews.
18. We then added and reframed Natasha Jonas interview as well as
reframing Amanda Groarke interview to improve the quality of the
interviews. We did this by zooming into each interview. We also
increased the brightness on Natasha Jonas interview as it appeared
to be very dark. We did this in graphics and using the colour wheel
to change the colour and quality of it.
