The Divine Nine
W.E.B. Du Bois suggested in his early work that the talent–tenth would uplift the black race. He
implied college trained black men and women were best equipped to transform black America's
position in the twentieth century. With that in mind, a new mission seemed to begin. At elite Cornell
University, the germination of a transcending organization occurred. Following suit around the
country, in particular at Howard University, other transcending organizations arose resulting in new

How to continue or duplicate in the twenty–first century what has been accomplished in the
twentieth century. Obviously, there is unfinished business from the civil rights movement era. Yet,
what role the Divine Nine will play? Today, many of the new voices and faces fighting inequality
and injustices on the national and local scene are not affiliated with a Divine Nine organization; this
was unheard of 40 years ago. The old guard leadership of the NAACP, nor church elders with the
possible exception of a few players no longer pilot the rallies, protesting age–old inequalities and
injustices in cities like Ferguson, Baltimore, New York, and Philadelphia. Currently, intelligent,
fearless, and brash young frustrated men and women with street credibility command the media
attention. They present a picture of a more edgy SNCC, no longer desiring the NAACP

The Incident Of Troy University 's Homecoming
"Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently,
I had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in
every direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place
before. Troy University's Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence
on this level. There was maybe a fight here and there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared
in my life. Troy University Homecoming 2016 had officially been ruined after this night. That
weekend began like any other homecoming weekend. It was filled with fraternity parties, tailgating,
and much more. The previous night, me, my cousin, and her friends ... Show more content on

We all followed. While waiting at the front door, I constantly observed my surroundings. A sense of
nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside
waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group
of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at
another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the
ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason;
instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I
stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched
one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was
coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people
were frantically running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror.
Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone
stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. I looked over to my right, in hopes
that at least my cousin had made it inside the building. She was nowhere to be found. I desperately
began to search for my cousin amongst the crowd of flustered people. "Tia! I'm right here!"

Women 's Impact On American History
In today's society, fraternities and sororities have been known to have major impressions on students
who attend college. In some cases, Greek organizations and their standings at universities aid in
determining ones choice for higher education. For example, some schools are known for sports,
others are known for their Black Greek Letter Organizations. When it comes to fraternities and
sororities in general, the topic could seem somewhat controversial due to mixed emotions and
beliefs. While attending an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) the accusations of
Greeks running the yard became vividly true. The topic of research to be discussed is objectification,
power and the perception of African Americans affiliated with sororities and fraternities at
Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The country 's verifiably Black Greek letter associations (BGLOs), by and large alluded to as the
"Divine Nine," have had fundamental impact in American history. Since each association 's
establishing all through the 20th century, Black organizations and sororities have not just given
African–Americans with a group to uplift each other, they have additionally made striking
commitments to society, especially in the ranges of social liberties, social welfare and governmental
issues.
The rundown of trailblazing African–Americans who have hailed from BGLOs compasses the range
of American life, going from work pioneer A. Philip Randolph, who was one of the coordinators of

Ander to Remorse in the Excerpt, Learning to Read by...
Every author has a different writing style in comparison. They convey their messages in multiple
ways; using different tones to evoke certain moods on their readers. Some authors use a few
different ways to catch their audiences attention; persuading them using logic, ethics and emotion.
In the excerpt "Learning to Read" by Malcolm X, he uses logic and emotion to persuade his
audience. By using anger to evoke remorse in his readers. Malcolm X references historical events to
convey his message. Malcolm X has a vast audience in this writing. He did not write for one
particular person or group. Malcolm X wants to inform and persuade an individual who is not aware
of what he has discovered. He wanted others to know of the information he discovered of the horror
the slaves endured. "Books like the one by Frederick Olmstead opened my eyes to the horrors
suffered when the slave was landed in the United States."(Malcolm X). He not only had proof to
share but had multiple references to provide clarity and proof. Malcolm X wrote his piece by
starting in the present, then going back ad forth between the past and present. Doing so made this
piece easy to follow and comprehend. He uses examples from the past to show clarity in the present.
Malcolm X uses an abundance of strong and descriptive words and phrases. He used the following
words to convey his message in a stronger stance: skin game, shameful and inevitable. "The
American black man is the worlds most shameful case of

Hero Vs Hero
Pericles once said " The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before
them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it." More than 2000 years later,
Pericles thoughts are still those of what today's hero is. A hero today struggles, yet still manages to
overcome these complications with an act of bravery. Rather than thinking of themselves, a hero is
usually willing to put others before themselves and show audacity in the face of difficulties.
First, Heroes are not thinking of themselves, but instead are showing acts of kindness towards
others. For example, after 9/11 a large amount of sailors showed up to evacuate Manhattan, due to
closed down airplanes and subways. These sailors showed pluck because many of them believed
they were a target for another attack. Vincent Ardolino, one of the captains who responded to the
call, recounts his conversation with his wife before he leaves. After learning of his decision,
Ardolino's wife asks "But what if they attack again."To this he responds "Well then that's something
I have to live with (Boatlift Documentary)" showing that he does not think about what may happen
to him, but about what may happen to others. Similarly to his decisions is the mole rescue workers
who dug people out of their homes after the earthquake in Mexico. Not only have these rescue
workers volunteered in this recent earthquake, but they have also taken action in earthquakes around
the world and have helped look

Poverty Reflection
For my civic or political participation, I volunteered with CPS's GIV day for a poverty simulation.
This is a half a day on the Friday of orientation week is available to first year's students. The
students are able to learn about civic issues like poverty and how Gettysburg College works with the
issue and community. As a member of Gettysburg College, I have volunteered with CPS in many
capacities and have done the poverty simulation as a first year. I also choose this engagement
because I have volunteered or participated in it every year except when I was abroad. This
opportunity also allowed me to complete five of my required hours for my sorority and service
fraternity. At the end, GIV day I an amazing way to get involved on campus, and be reminds about
key issues that affect the community and world.
First year students will come to the College Union Buildings Ballroom on the Friday of Orientation
with little to no idea what they are going to experience for half of the day. They will be assigned a
discussion table, a community group number, and a poverty simulation table number. The day is spit
up in half, where for the first half of the students will go to the community site and the other will go
through the poverty simulation. After both are done, the group will switch.
The students in the poverty simulation are divided into tables, which becomes families, and their
goal is to survive the four weeks. Surviving includes going to work, if they have a job, buying food,

My Favorite Dad
When I was attending elementary school, my third grade teacher, Mrs. Leak, assigned the class a
journal, "who do you consider a hero and why?" Of course many of my peers wrote Batman,
Superman, and Wonder woman. There were even a few who said no one. Some individuals may not
ever believe in heroes, but they have never met my dad. If I was to spell out perfection, it would be
my dad. Everything about my father make him the best hero including; his advice, personality,
appearance, his wardrobe and his aggressive voice. My father may radiate as a normal individual
when approaching him. However; There are an abundance of special characteristics that make him
my favorite hero. He is an average height male, 5"10'. He has a 350 lbs. stocky, muscular frame
which comes from being an athlete throughout his younger years. His hazel brown eyes share the
stories he has been through, which causes him not to display his straight, white teeth. His
complexion is similar to a dark chocolate dove with not a hint of error. His hair is curly, thick, and
dark brown , which corresponds great with the beard covering his face like Jolly Old St. Nicholas.
The clothing he wears such as suits, ties, and slacks or T–shirts', jeans, and Jordan's symbolize how
spontaneous he can be. The aroma of his Yves Saint Laurent cologne sticks to him like a fly caught
in a black widow spider web. My father is not an affectionate individual, therefore; when he hugs

The Fraternity Of The Brotherhood
Jesse joined Alpha Phi Alpha in order to bond with like–minded individuals. Alpha Phi Alpha was
the first Black Greek–letter intercollegiate fraternity in the United States founded on Cornell 's
campus in 1906 initially created as a Black men 's literary and support group. The purpose of the
organization is to foster strong bonds between men of African descent who faced racial prejudice.
The organization combines social purpose with social action. Jesse wanted to be part of the
brotherhood: I just had more relationships with African Americans at Cornell than I did with
majority students...As far as my pledge interest, and subsequently being initiated by Alpha Phi
Alpha fraternity, a couple of my close friends were in the frat. They spoke good things of it, and I
thought that it would be nice to join and be part of the brotherhood that was for us.
Harriet found solace in pledging Delta Sigma Theta, a Black Greek–letter sorority dedicated to
public service, which was founded in 1913. One of her really good friends, who was a Black Cuban,
decided to pledge with her. She also sang in Pamoja–Ni Gospel choir. Harriet talks about the
importance of community in an isolated environment:
I think that Blacks who wind up going to Cornell, in part because we have this shared experience of
being in an isolated environment. I think all of us grow, in part as a result of figuring out how to deal
with whatever challenges come up, the social and cultural challenges, and I think that

He made fairly significant breakthroughs in specific areas of science that would include the role of
environmental factors in development; "he investigated the effect of a number of variables – dilute

Biography Of Ernest Everett, The Son Of Charles And Mary
Ernest Everett Just, the son of Charles and Mary, was born in Charleston, SC August 14, 1883.
During this time Cholera and diphtheria epidemics broke out, and black children were the main ones
being affected by it. Soon after the birth of Ernest, his two year old brother and four year old sister
passed away as a result of these diseases leaving him as the only child in the family for a short time.
During his earlier years, the Just household was a very hectic and tense one. Many deaths were
occurring in the family, Charles Just problems with multiple women and alcohol increased, and bills
began to stack up. Barely four years old, Ernest father Charles Just died of alcoholism. Now with no
income for the family, debts from housing and funeral expenses began to pile up on Ernest mother,
Mary. In need of a way to support her family, she sold their house in Charleston and invested the
money in real estate. Through fierce negotiations and pure determination, she created an island of
her own and called it Maryville. Shortly after picking up and moving her family to Maryville, Ernest
became ill with typhoid fever. After the fever passed, his memory had been affected so badly, he no
longer had his reading and writing skills previously learned. Without sympathy, Ernest mother was
very hard on him teaching him to gain his skills back. In the end Ernest taught himself while the
other kids played by secluding himself and reading the bible. Ernest attended Fredrick Deming Jr.

Sorority Girl Stereotypes
Target Audience In this memo, I will discuss the stereotypes of sorority girls do to the public and
media. Also, I will discuss what sorority girls believe in and what they do in their chapters. I created
a Sororities Life PSA to target market girls who are afraid of joining a sorority because of false
accusations they hear and see about Greek life. I chose this PSA because I was one of those girls
who were afraid of joining a sorority because of all the negative effects it had. Stereotypes vs.
Reality This PSA was to stop people from judging girls who are in sororities. To this day, we have
professors, students, and many others who believe that we Greeks are up to no good, party all the
time, don't take school seriously and think we are better than everyone else. Right below I will talk
about important viewpoints the PSA video had. The images I chose were pictures I found online

believed to have. The first song played was Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado, which was one of the
negative stereotypes sorority girls are known for. Many believe that life of a sorority ... Show more

Understanding The Flow Dynamics Of An Aircraft
section{The Road to Transition.}
Understanding the flow dynamics of an aircraft in flight conditions is a very difficult task. The
process that the flow undergoes is complicated and many factors are involved. The main
understanding of this process is that it undergoes a transition from laminar flow (linear, parallel
streamlines) to turbulent (chaotic, mixed) one. The region where this changes is called laminar–
turbulent transition. It is important to understand the characteristics of the flow for prediction of this
transition location. Laminar flows are sensitive to adverse pressure gradients and are inclined to
separate, whereas turbulent flows create larger wall friction.

Reynolds cite{Reynolds1883} assessed this laminar–turbulent transition by performing experiments
in a pipe. He did this by injecting ink into a pipe with a water flow and observing the results. He
noted that there were different regimes based on the speed of the flow, laminar and turbulent
regions. A parameter, which is named after him, quantified this different behaviour of the fluid. The
Reynolds number is the ratio of the inertia forces over the viscous ones and it dictates the transition
process. We are interested in what caused this transition to occur and if there needs to be a critical
value for this transition to happen.
In aerodynamics many factors exist that contribute to the triggering of turbulence. In a three–
dimensional boundary–layer on a swept wing, various instabilities are

The Establishment Of Black Greek Lettered Organizations
The establishment of Black Greek–lettered organizations is an important cornerstone for the
solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the
first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were several other attempts to begin like
organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these
organizations were not allowed to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi–significant depth
about the infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were legitimately a
group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would form lodges located in different
regions in which the members would seek membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black
Greek–lettered organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding
gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code language and grips to
identify true members of the organization was also adopted from Masonic tradition. Where the
Masons enter the conversation of Black fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all–black lodge
was founded. Arguably, these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities.
Another noted organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek–lettered organization is
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization was founded on
January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed

Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is comprised of legendary, talented, educated men who have done
just this. I would like to join this organization to carry out the legacy of manly deeds, scholarship,
and love for all mankind.
Other Greek fraternities were founded on similar principles of brotherhood, community service, and
academic excellence, but I find myself especially drawn to Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Incorporated because of the men who have made such a lasting impression on my life.
I've had mentors, strangers turned friends and relatives all impart on me through the very way they

After having defied the odds myself by graduating from college and working toward two Master's
degrees, I owe it to the next generation to pass the torch. They have too much against them:
threats both seen and unseen. With love for all mankind in my heart, it is important that I do all I can
to preserve our communities.
If so fortunate to become a member of this distinguished organization I hope to serve the community
as well as form life–long bonds through the principle of brotherhood. An Oromo proverb states,
"Knowledge kept to oneself is as useless as a candle burning in a pot." I believe this same statement
applies to an individual's talents and skills. Talents and skills that are given to us, but not used, are
useless. Accordingly, as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorporated, I will make sure to continue the work of Alpha in my service to others throughout my
life. In hopes of leaving a legacy of manly deeds, scholarship, and most importantly love.
Best Regards,
Rexrian (Rex) L.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Analysis
I am interested in the Delta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at Cheyney University.
Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African–American women has sparked my interest
since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities
for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908
have been immaculate. Many AKA's were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights
Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this
prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney
University campus and surrounding areas.
At Cheyney University I am a member of Iconic Modeling and Dance group. With the modeling
group, we perform around Pennsylvania at other colleges, and on Cheyney University's campus
several times a year. This is the first group I joined my freshman year. Being from Upper Marlboro,
Maryland and going to a college out of state was difficult for me to fit in. I began to see flyers for a
modeling group and I immediately tried out. I made the team and have been on the team for 4
semesters now beginning Fall 2015. Iconic has taught me to build confidence while performing on

Choosing Texas A & M University
Choosing a college is a challenging decision but a pathway to your future, in which makes it
important to choose wisely. To choose a college of your liking you must rank your priorities,
compare your financial aid packages, focus on your endgame, and also revisit your short list. These
steps will most likely guide you to find the perfect college/ university for you. I've decided to
choose "Texas A&M University school of law" in which is located in Fortworth, Tx. This university
has had a 19.68% percentage of applicants who've been admitted and also has diversities of
white(64.4%) and hispanics(21.8%). To live within the University a room can cost up to $20,000 ,
tuition can cost up to $28,000 , loans $208, and supplies $2,400 adding up to an amount of $50,700
in total. Texas A&M has a 8.4:1 student–teacher ratio meaning it wouldn't be as populated as other
colleges would be making it a great environment to focus. In Texas A&M , within criminal law ,
there are "Cynthia Alkon, and Amber Baylor" instructors in which I'd love to meet. Quality within
this school is great, it's a good campus, good quality of tech, rooms, etc.
A percentage of 79.3% of students graduate from Texas A&M University which makes me confident
to go to this university. The average GPA to be admitted to Texas A&M is 3.55 as for the average

Reflective Essay On Racism
I work for the day that there will no longer be a mandatory minimum for melanin and hate speech is
no longer freer than my and every person of color's body. Every day, we seem to get closer and
further from this day. Clocks no longer reliable to count the passing of time, but in divisive times,

people who did everything right, but it's on the ground, then in the ground they are left. I came to

about a predominantly white institution, or maybe just college generally, made me recognize who I

Eritrea attending an Ivy League institution on stolen land. Coming to the realization of all these
intersections of the identities that bring privileges or discrimination, I sought whatever avenues I
could find to ameliorate difficulties faced based on identity. But, another thing I realized early on
here is that I really ain't know anything. Consequently, I took classes in the Sociology and FGSS

The For Black Greek Organizations
Trailblazers for Black Greek Organizations in Higher Education:
The Journey of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.,
African American education systems and colleges faced many issues systematically and socially.
The process of integrating colleges was a process faced with opposition because the idea that higher
education was made for strictly for white upper–class men was still the underlying ideal. While
equal opportunity was promoted in the light, behind the scenes, systematically money, policy,
procedure hindered black education and equal opportunity. Realizing this injustice, black students
sought to find their own solutions to social justice issues happening not only within higher education
but their communities while leading by example.
On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi
Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of William and Mary.Building from the example of
literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many
standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective
admittance, faculty and community support. It was not until one hundred and thirty years that the
first black greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded. The need of this organization
emerged from a lack of admittance and representation in social clubs and greek organizations

Analysis Of Margot Lee Shetterly's Hidden Figures
Throughout Margot Lee Shetterly's "Hidden Figures" she portrays exactly how African American
women in the 1950's overcame social obstacles to become successful in their fields. She exposes the
careers of 3 women who have overcome these hurdles to not only succeed, but excel in their fields!
Shetterly believes the trio has blazed trails that has allowed others to follow in their footsteps. In
fact, the three women have become role models for the younger generations. As a young adult, I
believe a role model is someone who displays not only good character, but is also admired for their
accomplishments in life. One such person who has become a role model to me is Benjamin Carson,

Ben was comparable to the main characters in "Hidden Figures" as he was also a young, dedicated,
African–American living in the 1950's who wanted change. This was a period when both African
American males and females were still rejected by past generations. Even though their civil rights

Alfreda was a first generation college student. She had a difficult academic experience being one of

cope with the experience. Alfreda mentioned Zinck 's night which is a campus tradition named after
a bar keeper in Ithaca that owned a bar that was a haven for college students. Alfreda found no
interest in this event, however, she did participate in Slope day because it was an opportunity for her
and her friends to celebrate the last day of school. Instead of participating in the university–wide

There are different types of sororities. There are four basic types of Greek letter organizations:
social, professional, academic or honorary, and service. Of these, social Greek–letter organizations
are most popular (Encarta). The first social sorority started in 1851 by women at Wesleyan College
in Macon, Georgia. The women founded the Adelphean Society, which later became a Greek–letter
sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. Other early Greek–letter sororities for women included Pi Beta Phi,
established in 1867 at Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Illinois, and Kappa Alpha Theta,
established in 1870 at DePauw University (formally Indiana Asbury College) in Greencastle,

Social sororities contribute to the social development of members through organized social events
and service projects. Many chapters maintain houses on or near the campus where members can
meet and hold social functions. Social sororities are known for their parties, dances, and other social

What Is Equality In Susan B Anthony's Speech
From a young age, American students are able to comprehend the idea that our nation's success
tends to center around the equality of the people. History classes have taught us that the less
discrimination in this world, the easier a country can succeed. Although the nation continues to fight
the war of inequality between its citizens through endless protests and movements, the nation itself
has promised equality to all minorities no matter their color or gender. With new laws added to the
Bill of Rights, the United States have been able to resolve government issues regarding civil
liberties such as freedom of speech, voting regulations and female restrictions that have haunted us
from our American past.
Voting, in this day and age, is easily taken for granted by most. When Susan B. Anthony gave her
speech in 1873 in the hope of the country bettering their laws to comply with the female population,
she knew the nation's laws complied most with "the white male citizens"(Source E) of the country.
Knowing that mistreatment in society was something shared between minorities, Anthony called out
the group of people that were treated better than anyone. When speaking to her audience, Anthony
uses ethos in her speech in order to make her point clear that withholding women's civil liberties is
wrong. Being a woman in 1873, Anthony faced discrimination in her everyday life; for this reason,
she chose to focus on changing not only the country's social discrimination, but also it's

Comparison Of Frederick Douglass And Martin Luther King Jr
Out of oppression rises resilient individuals whose voices cannot be silenced. Though the exact
circumstances may vary, both Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. were empowered in
the face of persecution. Both came from a place of suffering and restriction, were inspired by the
brutality the observed, and attacks institutions which allowed these atrocities and others to continue.
Their words, powerful and thought–provoking, will serve as pieces that will not soon be forgotten.
Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. both utilized certain writing techniques to emphasize
their story and increase the degree of impact to the reader. In both pieces, Narrative of the Life of
Frederick Douglass and Letter from Birmingham Jail, emotionally charged elements are included to
create a response from the reader. Douglass ultilizes a deeply personal and graphic style.
Remembering the horrific story of his Aunt Hester, Douglass recounts, "and after rolling up his
sleeves, he (slave master) commenced to lay on the heavy cow skin, and soon the warm, red blood
(amid heartrending shrieks from her, and horrid oaths from him) came dripping to the floor." In
contrast, King calls upon the emotion of the recipients through his reference to the greater evil
committed against society. Relating what he has seen to the larger picture, King describes, "But
when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your sisters and
brothers at whim; when you have seen

King And Douglass Similarities
Have you ever heard of the speech "I Have a Dream" from the late Martin Luther King Jr.?
You'd be pretty sure many people have heard of it, but has anyone ever really read it and thought
about it? This could be like "The Hypocrisy of American Slavery," a piece of work produced by
Frederick Douglass. "They both argued that African–Americans have a natural right to equality"
(Renfro 1). Douglass once said, "The white man's happiness cannot be purchased by the black man's
misery." Here is just another point of there not being enough equality for being an African American
during those times of struggle. The fact that King and Douglass had used their oral power to try and

They came to be very influential people for the people of their time and for many years up to now.
King and Douglass also had their staple in time for being great Civil Rights activists. They played
key parts in the fight to lead blacks from their lack of power and equality for themselves. Having the
struggles to deal with within slavery and segregated times, blacks wanted to band together. King
was vital in the making of acts during those times, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ("Martin
Luther King Jr." 2). This act was what outlawed most of the discrimination for colored people.
Douglass had his own contributions, but they were in some cases not as major as the things King put
forward to gain equality for blacks. As time went on the two began earning their unparalleled
oratory skills. With the power of just their voices and hands they were granted with so much more
notoriety. "Both of them have similar oratory styles. They both had the amazing ability to move their
audience to action"(Renfro 1). They were also publishers and produced many great pieces of work.
"Douglass published three versions of his autobiography during his lifetime, revising and expanding

Bartle Hall Sky Stations Analysis
Bartle Hall Sky Stations
I grew up 85 miles northeast of Kansas City, Mo. in a small farming town. On the special occasion
that we would get to go to Kansas City (the city) it was a very exciting thing for me. I'll never forget
the first time I got to drive by downtown Kansas City. Traveling south along I–29/I–35 and all of the
sudden I looked up and saw these huge concrete pylons protruding through the skyline. These
pylons were incredible to me but what really drew my interest was what was sitting on top of the
pylons.
Downtown Kansas City was going through a revitalization stage in the early 90's and part of that
was the expansion of Bartle Hall, named after Harold Roe Bartle a two–term mayor in KC during
the 1950's and early 60's. Bartle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was used to lower the sculptures down.
The city of Kansas City, Mo. paid 1.2 million dollars for the four sculptures and other artwork from
Fischer that is inside of Bartle Hall. Originally when the sculptures were set on top of the pylons for

Frederick Douglass Disobedience
This quote sparks interest due to disobedience often containing a negative connotation. However, in
this quote disobedience is honorable, and to be called disobedient is a compliment. According to
Wilde, disobedience is beneficial and without it social progress could not be made. Without
disobedience, society is unable to change or improve from past mistakes. Without rebellion or
disobedience, what will promote people to act on their injustices? Rebellion and disobedience are
beneficial in promoting social progress. Through it, citizens are able to bring issues and injustices
they want acknowledged to the forefront. Through these ways, they try to make the world a better
place for everyone and to bring people to the realization as to why the issues that they face are at
fault and that they should be restored. In relation to the novel, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass, Frederick Douglass's disobedience ultimately sparked his freedom. Being introduced to
the "heart rending shrieks" from his aunt at such a young age, slavery has implanted a long–lasting
effect on his life. Often times, when one experiences a painful memory in the manner such as,
watching a family member hit until they are covered with blood, sparks a fire to stand up for what is
right in the back of their mind. Douglass carried those visions of his aunt along with him his whole
life, as well as his own repulsive images and memories. These memories brought him to his
jurisdiction of fighting back

  • 3. The Divine Nine W.E.B. Du Bois suggested in his early work that the talent–tenth would uplift the black race. He implied college trained black men and women were best equipped to transform black America's position in the twentieth century. With that in mind, a new mission seemed to begin. At elite Cornell University, the germination of a transcending organization occurred. Following suit around the country, in particular at Howard University, other transcending organizations arose resulting in new thoughts, behavior, and connectivity for black America progression. The fruit bore from these transcending organizations produced the core leadership and game changers that shaped the twentieth–century black experience. Such greats as W.E.B. Du Bois, Booker ... Obviously, there is unfinished business from the civil rights movement era. Yet, what role the Divine Nine will play? Today, many of the new voices and faces fighting inequality and injustices on the national and local scene are not affiliated with a Divine Nine organization; this was unheard of 40 years ago. The old guard leadership of the NAACP, nor church elders with the possible exception of a few players no longer pilot the rallies, protesting age–old inequalities and injustices in cities like Ferguson, Baltimore, New York, and Philadelphia. Currently, intelligent, fearless, and brash young frustrated men and women with street credibility command the media attention. Troy University's Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence on this level. There was maybe a fight here and there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared in my life. A sense of nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason; instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror. Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. • 9. Women 's Impact On American History In today's society, fraternities and sororities have been known to have major impressions on students who attend college. In some cases, Greek organizations and their standings at universities aid in determining ones choice for higher education. For example, some schools are known for sports, others are known for their Black Greek Letter Organizations. When it comes to fraternities and sororities in general, the topic could seem somewhat controversial due to mixed emotions and beliefs. While attending an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) the accusations of Greeks running the yard became vividly true. The topic of research to be discussed is objectification, power and the perception of African Americans affiliated with sororities and fraternities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The country 's verifiably Black Greek letter associations (BGLOs), by and large alluded to as the "Divine Nine," have had fundamental impact in American history. Since each association 's establishing all through the 20th century, Black organizations and sororities have not just given African–Americans with a group to uplift each other, they have additionally made striking commitments to society, especially in the ranges of social liberties, social welfare and governmental issues. The rundown of trailblazing African–Americans who have hailed from BGLOs compasses the range of American life, going from work pioneer A. Philip Randolph, who was one of the coordinators of ... They convey their messages in multiple ways; using different tones to evoke certain moods on their readers. Some authors use a few different ways to catch their audiences attention; persuading them using logic, ethics and emotion. In the excerpt "Learning to Read" by Malcolm X, he uses logic and emotion to persuade his audience. By using anger to evoke remorse in his readers. Malcolm X references historical events to convey his message. Malcolm X has a vast audience in this writing. He did not write for one particular person or group. Malcolm X wants to inform and persuade an individual who is not aware of what he has discovered. He wanted others to know of the information he discovered of the horror the slaves endured. "Books like the one by Frederick Olmstead opened my eyes to the horrors suffered when the slave was landed in the United States."(Malcolm X). He not only had proof to share but had multiple references to provide clarity and proof. Malcolm X wrote his piece by starting in the present, then going back ad forth between the past and present. Doing so made this piece easy to follow and comprehend. He uses examples from the past to show clarity in the present. Malcolm X uses an abundance of strong and descriptive words and phrases. He used the following words to convey his message in a stronger stance: skin game, shameful and inevitable. "The American black man is the worlds most shameful case of ... • 13. Hero Vs Hero Pericles once said " The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it." More than 2000 years later, Pericles thoughts are still those of what today's hero is. A hero today struggles, yet still manages to overcome these complications with an act of bravery. Rather than thinking of themselves, a hero is usually willing to put others before themselves and show audacity in the face of difficulties. First, Heroes are not thinking of themselves, but instead are showing acts of kindness towards others. For example, after 9/11 a large amount of sailors showed up to evacuate Manhattan, due to closed down airplanes and subways. These sailors showed pluck because many of them believed they were a target for another attack. Vincent Ardolino, one of the captains who responded to the call, recounts his conversation with his wife before he leaves. After learning of his decision, Ardolino's wife asks "But what if they attack again."To this he responds "Well then that's something I have to live with (Boatlift Documentary)" showing that he does not think about what may happen to him, but about what may happen to others. Similarly to his decisions is the mole rescue workers who dug people out of their homes after the earthquake in Mexico. Not only have these rescue workers volunteered in this recent earthquake, but they have also taken action in earthquakes around the world and have helped look ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I also choose this engagement because I have volunteered or participated in it every year except when I was abroad. This opportunity also allowed me to complete five of my required hours for my sorority and service fraternity. At the end, GIV day I an amazing way to get involved on campus, and be reminds about key issues that affect the community and world. Of course many of my peers wrote Batman, Superman, and Wonder woman. There were even a few who said no one. Some individuals may not ever believe in heroes, but they have never met my dad. If I was to spell out perfection, it would be my dad. Everything about my father make him the best hero including; his advice, personality, appearance, his wardrobe and his aggressive voice. My father may radiate as a normal individual when approaching him. However; There are an abundance of special characteristics that make him my favorite hero. He is an average height male, 5"10'. He has a 350 lbs. stocky, muscular frame which comes from being an athlete throughout his younger years. His hazel brown eyes share the stories he has been through, which causes him not to display his straight, white teeth. His complexion is similar to a dark chocolate dove with not a hint of error. His hair is curly, thick, and dark brown , which corresponds great with the beard covering his face like Jolly Old St. Nicholas. The clothing he wears such as suits, ties, and slacks or T–shirts', jeans, and Jordan's symbolize how spontaneous he can be. The aroma of his Yves Saint Laurent cologne sticks to him like a fly caught in a black widow spider web. They spoke good things of it, and I thought that it would be nice to join and be part of the brotherhood that was for us. Harriet found solace in pledging Delta Sigma Theta, a Black Greek–letter sorority dedicated to public service, which was founded in 1913. One of her really good friends, who was a Black Cuban, decided to pledge with her. She also sang in Pamoja–Ni Gospel choir. Harriet talks about the importance of community in an isolated environment: I think that Blacks who wind up going to Cornell, in part because we have this shared experience of being in an isolated environment. Also, I will discuss what sorority girls believe in and what they do in their chapters. I created a Sororities Life PSA to target market girls who are afraid of joining a sorority because of false accusations they hear and see about Greek life. I chose this PSA because I was one of those girls who were afraid of joining a sorority because of all the negative effects it had. Stereotypes vs. Reality This PSA was to stop people from judging girls who are in sororities. To this day, we have professors, students, and many others who believe that we Greeks are up to no good, party all the time, don't take school seriously and think we are better than everyone else. Right below I will talk about important viewpoints the PSA video had. The images I chose were pictures I found online under sorority girl stereotypes. These images represented the negative effect sorority girls are believed to have. • 35. Understanding The Flow Dynamics Of An Aircraft section{The Road to Transition.} Understanding the flow dynamics of an aircraft in flight conditions is a very difficult task. The process that the flow undergoes is complicated and many factors are involved. The main understanding of this process is that it undergoes a transition from laminar flow (linear, parallel streamlines) to turbulent (chaotic, mixed) one. The region where this changes is called laminar– turbulent transition. It is important to understand the characteristics of the flow for prediction of this transition location. Laminar flows are sensitive to adverse pressure gradients and are inclined to separate, whereas turbulent flows create larger wall friction. Reynolds cite{Reynolds1883} assessed this laminar–turbulent transition by performing experiments in a pipe. He did this by injecting ink into a pipe with a water flow and observing the results. He noted that there were different regimes based on the speed of the flow, laminar and turbulent regions. A parameter, which is named after him, quantified this different behaviour of the fluid. The Reynolds number is the ratio of the inertia forces over the viscous ones and it dictates the transition process. We are interested in what caused this transition to occur and if there needs to be a critical value for this transition to happen. In aerodynamics many factors exist that contribute to the triggering of turbulence. In a three– dimensional boundary–layer on a swept wing, various instabilities are ... • 37. The Establishment Of Black Greek Lettered Organizations The establishment of Black Greek–lettered organizations is an important cornerstone for the solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were several other attempts to begin like organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these organizations were not allowed to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi–significant depth about the infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were legitimately a group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would form lodges located in different regions in which the members would seek membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black Greek–lettered organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code language and grips to identify true members of the organization was also adopted from Masonic tradition. Where the Masons enter the conversation of Black fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all–black lodge was founded. Arguably, these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities. Another noted organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek–lettered organization is Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization was founded on January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The For Black Greek Organizations Trailblazers for Black Greek Organizations in Higher Education: The Journey of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., African American education systems and colleges faced many issues systematically and socially. The process of integrating colleges was a process faced with opposition because the idea that higher education was made for strictly for white upper–class men was still the underlying ideal. On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of William and Mary.Building from the example of literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective admittance, faculty and community support. Ben was comparable to the main characters in "Hidden Figures" as he was also a young, dedicated, African–American living in the 1950's who wanted change. This was a period when both African American males and females were still rejected by past generations. Even though their civil rights were improving, they were still seen as outcasts in many communities. Carson was poverty–stricken and arose from a broken family, which only added to his burdens to success. Benjamin not only overcame the odds, he has excelled and became a role model for me and countless young people today. After graduating with his psychology degree Ben was accepted to the University of Michigan's Medical School. He continued to excel and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then studied neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. There he served as an intern, neurosurgery resident and later earned the honor of chief resident. She had a difficult academic experience being one of only four African American students majoring in animal science. She used her social life to help her cope with the experience. Alfreda mentioned Zinck 's night which is a campus tradition named after a bar keeper in Ithaca that owned a bar that was a haven for college students. Alfreda found no interest in this event, however, she did participate in Slope day because it was an opportunity for her and her friends to celebrate the last day of school. Instead of participating in the university–wide homecoming, she mentions a separate homecoming sponsored by a Black fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha and the Festival of Black Gospel. She states: I absolutely participated in Slope Day. Slope Day just seemed like a group effort. It was end of year, everyone 's excited to be finished with the year. So that 's kind of a given. I 'd say the Alpha Phi Alpha homecoming was something that we always did. Honestly now as an alumni, I look back and get all these messages about the events, like Zinck 's Night and all that. I didn 't participate in any of that, the traditional Cornell events. [Instead] we had the Black Gospel festival... The first social sorority started in 1851 by women at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. The women founded the Adelphean Society, which later became a Greek–letter sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. Other early Greek–letter sororities for women included Pi Beta Phi, established in 1867 at Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Illinois, and Kappa Alpha Theta, established in 1870 at DePauw University (formally Indiana Asbury College) in Greencastle, Indiana (Encarta). • 67. What Is Equality In Susan B Anthony's Speech From a young age, American students are able to comprehend the idea that our nation's success tends to center around the equality of the people. History classes have taught us that the less discrimination in this world, the easier a country can succeed. Although the nation continues to fight the war of inequality between its citizens through endless protests and movements, the nation itself has promised equality to all minorities no matter their color or gender. With new laws added to the Bill of Rights, the United States have been able to resolve government issues regarding civil liberties such as freedom of speech, voting regulations and female restrictions that have haunted us from our American past. Voting, in this day and age, is easily taken for granted by most. When Susan B. Anthony gave her speech in 1873 in the hope of the country bettering their laws to comply with the female population, she knew the nation's laws complied most with "the white male citizens"(Source E) of the country. Knowing that mistreatment in society was something shared between minorities, Anthony called out the group of people that were treated better than anyone. When speaking to her audience, Anthony uses ethos in her speech in order to make her point clear that withholding women's civil liberties is wrong. Being a woman in 1873, Anthony faced discrimination in her everyday life; for this reason, she chose to focus on changing not only the country's social discrimination, but also it's ... Though the exact circumstances may vary, both Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. were empowered in the face of persecution. Both came from a place of suffering and restriction, were inspired by the brutality the observed, and attacks institutions which allowed these atrocities and others to continue. Their words, powerful and thought–provoking, will serve as pieces that will not soon be forgotten. In both pieces, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and Letter from Birmingham Jail, emotionally charged elements are included to create a response from the reader. Douglass ultilizes a deeply personal and graphic style. Remembering the horrific story of his Aunt Hester, Douglass recounts, "and after rolling up his sleeves, he (slave master) commenced to lay on the heavy cow skin, and soon the warm, red blood (amid heartrending shrieks from her, and horrid oaths from him) came dripping to the floor." In contrast, King calls upon the emotion of the recipients through his reference to the greater evil committed against society. Relating what he has seen to the larger picture, King describes, "But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your sisters and brothers at whim; when you have seen ... You'd be pretty sure many people have heard of it, but has anyone ever really read it and thought about it? This could be like "The Hypocrisy of American Slavery," a piece of work produced by Frederick Douglass. "They both argued that African–Americans have a natural right to equality" (Renfro 1). Douglass once said, "The white man's happiness cannot be purchased by the black man's misery." Here is just another point of there not being enough equality for being an African American during those times of struggle. The fact that King and Douglass had used their oral power to try and fight throughout their lives was a very substantial task. They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They came to be very influential people for the people of their time and for many years up to now. King and Douglass also had their staple in time for being great Civil Rights activists. They played key parts in the fight to lead blacks from their lack of power and equality for themselves. Having the struggles to deal with within slavery and segregated times, blacks wanted to band together. King was vital in the making of acts during those times, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ("Martin Luther King Jr." 2). This act was what outlawed most of the discrimination for colored people. Douglass had his own contributions, but they were in some cases not as major as the things King put forward to gain equality for blacks. As time went on the two began earning their unparalleled oratory skills. With the power of just their voices and hands they were granted with so much more notoriety. "Both of them have similar oratory styles. They both had the amazing ability to move their audience to action"(Renfro 1). They were also publishers and produced many great pieces of work. On the special occasion that we would get to go to Kansas City (the city) it was a very exciting thing for me. I'll never forget the first time I got to drive by downtown Kansas City. Traveling south along I–29/I–35 and all of the sudden I looked up and saw these huge concrete pylons protruding through the skyline. Downtown Kansas City was going through a revitalization stage in the early 90's and part of that was the expansion of Bartle Hall, named after Harold Roe Bartle a two–term mayor in KC during the 1950's and early 60's. • 77. Frederick Douglass Disobedience This quote sparks interest due to disobedience often containing a negative connotation. However, in this quote disobedience is honorable, and to be called disobedient is a compliment. According to Wilde, disobedience is beneficial and without it social progress could not be made. Without disobedience, society is unable to change or improve from past mistakes. Without rebellion or disobedience, what will promote people to act on their injustices? Rebellion and disobedience are beneficial in promoting social progress. Through it, citizens are able to bring issues and injustices they want acknowledged to the forefront. Through these ways, they try to make the world a better place for everyone and to bring people to the realization as to why the issues that they face are at fault and that they should be restored. In relation to the novel, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass's disobedience ultimately sparked his freedom. Being introduced to the "heart rending shrieks" from his aunt at such a young age, slavery has implanted a long–lasting effect on his life. Often times, when one experiences a painful memory in the manner such as, watching a family member hit until they are covered with blood, sparks a fire to stand up for what is right in the back of their mind. Douglass carried those visions of his aunt along with him his whole life, as well as his own repulsive images and memories. These memories brought him to his jurisdiction of fighting back ...
