Indian Banking Sector
INTRODUCTION A bank is an institution that deals in money and its substitutes and provides other
financial services. Banks accept deposits and make loans or make an investment to derive a profit
from the difference in the interest rates paid and charged, respectively.
In India the banks are being segregated in different groups. Each group has their own benefits and
limitations in operating in India. Each has their own dedicated target market. Few of them only work
in rural sector while others in both rural as well as urban. Many even are only catering in cities.
Some are of Indian origin and some are foreign players.

In India, however there is a mixed banking system, prior to July 1969, all the commercial banks–73
scheduled and 26 non–scheduled banks, except the state bank of India and its subsidiaries–were
under the control of private sector. On July 19, 1969, however, 14 major commercial banks with
deposits of over 50 Corers were nationalized. In April 1980, another six commercial banks of high
standing were taken over by the government.
At present, there are 20 nationalized banks plus the state bank of India and its 7 subsidiaries
constituting public sector banking which controls over 90 per cent of the banking business in the
country.
CO–OPERATIVE BANKS
Co–operative banks are a group of financial institutions organized under the provisions of the Co–
operative societies Act of the states. The main objective of co–operative banks is to provide cheap
credits to their members. They are based on the principle of self–reliance and mutual co–operation.
Co–operative banking system in India has the shape of a pyramid a three tier structure, constituted
by:
SPECIALIZED BANKS
There are specialized forms of banks catering to some special needs with this unique nature of
activities. There are thus,
o Foreign exchange banks, o Industrial banks, o Development banks, o Land development banks, o

Pros And Disadvantages Of Merger And Acquisitions
Introduction
India being one of the fastest growing economies in the world, always tried to adopt the most
successful practices across sectors. It tries to project itself in the global forum with big and mighty
companies in the core sectors. Merger and Acquisitions acts as an important tool for the growth and
expansion of the economy. The main motive behind the M&As is to create synergy between the
likeminded companies or the strong companies and weakly performing companies. M&As help the
companies in getting the benefits of greater market share and cost efficiency. Companies are
confronted with the facts that the only big players can survive as there is a cut throat competition in
the market and the success of the merger depends on how well the two companies integrate
themselves in carrying out day to day operations.
Like in the case of all business entities, banks want to safeguard against risks, as well as the
competition which is ever growing. Also to exploit the available opportunities indicated by the
existing and expected trends. M&As in the banking sector have been on the rise in the recent past in
India. In this backdrop this article illuminates the key issues surrounding M&As in this sector with
the focus on India. It seeks to explain the need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The better advantage is the geographical placement of these branches. 65% of the ING Vysya
branches are located where Kotak Mahindra Bank branches are not present. This will definitely help
the combined entity in terms of geographical spread. Also the aim of Kotak Mahindra Bank of
reaching 1000 branches by 2016 is achieved one year before the targeted year. The SME segment is
very strong for ING where the Kotak's presence is less. This also provides diversification in the loan
book for the combined entity. The balance sheet size has almost touched 2,00,000 crores which
takes Kotak Bank to 4th largest bank the private

Stock Split Advantages And Disadvantages
STOCK SPLIT:
A stock split is a process in which the number of already issued shares increases without increasing
the market capitalization of the company. In other words, Stock split is nothing but the division of
already issued shares of a firm into a larger number of shares. Stock split increases the number of
outstanding shares while at the same time decreasing face value & share price proportionally. i.e,
when a company split its stock 2–for–1, then the number of shares will get double & face value, the
share price will become half. The goal of the stock split is to make the stock accessible to as many
investors as possible. A share split will result in all shareholders holding more shares in the
company. But, their stake in the share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, companies split stocks to come over this problem. Stock splits are mainly carried out with
the intention that it should be affordable to small investors which will eventually enhance the
liquidity of the stock. Hence, the main motive is to enhance the liquidity of the stock.
If a company wants to reduce its market price to half, it will issue 2–for–1 stock split which means
the company will issue additional 1 share per 1 share currently issued thereby doubling the total
number of shares. There might be a 3–for–2 stock split, for example, which means that 3 shares are
to be issued for each 2 shares of currently issues shares.
A stock split is usually applied by companies that have seen their share price increase to levels that
are either too high or are beyond the price levels of peer companies. For e.g, ICICI BANK, shares of
ICICI bank used to trade at 1700 in 2014 & it's peers like HDFC BANK, KOTAK MAHINDRA etc.
used to trade at half of its price at that time & then ICICI came up with a 5–for–1 stock

Financial Advertising in India
INSURANCE SECTOR
ADVERTISING
Insurance ads in india have come a long way in the last three decades. Be it television commercials,
print ads, or bill boards. The change is remarkably noticeable. Earlier most of the advertising in this
sector tended to play crudely on our consistent fear of the future and the unknown. A case in point
being the television advertisement of firms like United India Assurance, National Insurance and
Oriental Insurance. All the aforementioned companies provided insurance policies for contingencies
like fire, robbery and natural disasters. Television commercials of that time tended to be rawly
cooked scripts put together in the doors of hard sell copy. All of them invariably, toyed with our fear
factor. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One aspect that remained constant throughout were the seasonal ads spread across all major Indian
festivals. The overall image that SBI has managed to retain is that of a surly wisecrack devoid of a
human face. Specific regions meant ads in the local language or dialect even though the sensibilities
of the visual would be more or less pan–Indian. Accordingly the advertising was pretty much
stagnant upto the mid 90's when banks all over the world suddenly started touting their wider array
of services. The creatives were often compromised in order to make for a greater resonance with the
local sensibilities involved. Regionally affiliated branches of the bank like State Bank of Patiala,
State Bank of Maharashtra, State Bank of Indore etc sparsely took out any ads of their own and even
the ones released were very diminutive.
The upheaval started around the mid 90's when State Bank of India started come out with a spate of
well thought and visually compact ads. One of them, for instance had a picture of a stick shielding a
golden egg from being crushed by a brick with the tagline Before You attached to it. The message
was stark and well crafted. This was followed by a phase where State Bank of India started to
advertise its wide range of services across the country.
The positional leverage of the Surprisingly SBI campaign was the fact that the bank had singularly

The study draws economic analogies for Heisenberg's Uncertainty principle and concentrates on the
17 largest Investment Banks and the 10 largest Mutual Funds. It tries to quantify the uncertainty and
lists the economic mass of every institution from among the two groups and the average economic
masses of each group as well. The study was restricted to publically listed Investment Banks and
Mutual Funds and the model was not applicable to privately held and boutique banks and also
wasn't applicable to hedge funds and other private funds which did not report their Net Asset Value
Returns. According to the findings, the economic mass was highest for Goldman Sachs while
Toronto Domino Bank shows the least economic mass. When it comes to Mutual Funds, Pimco the
world's largest mutual fund had the lowest economic mass; the exposure to the crisis could be the
reason behind this. The American Funds Growth Fund of America has the highest economic mass.
This study has been able to show that the Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle has implications for
financial institutions. For future research, one could look into applying the model for privately held
Financial Institutions and those funds which do not report their returns like Hedge Funds.

People who are using the services of other banks are generally attracted with the highly efficient
staff and services like InstaAlert etc. Majority of the people prefer to open their accounts in SBI
Bank because of their wide network and tie up with other bank's branches and companies. Though it
is in the mind of the people that public sector banks don't give the best service but my project result
is totally opposite to this. The survey shows that 88% customers are fully satisfied with the bank's
performance and their dealings. But the other side that come into light while this study is that some
customers are also not satisfied with the dealings of the bank because of some reasons and Bank has
to take corrective measures.

As we know that the customer is regarded as The King. Customers are the lifelines of the business.
No business can be done without them. But in the competitive market, you can get the customer but
the more difficult is to retain the customers, and this can only de done if we satisfy customers from
head to toe. If we will not satisfy the customers then they will leave our organization and join other.
Today if the organization has the largest customer base then it may be possible it cannot provide the

The Determinants Of Customer Satisfaction Essay
In this section, it is noted that researchers gain knowledge based on observation and
experimentation. Using the determinants of customer satisfaction like service quality, customer
perception, customer experience, customer awareness, customer compliance process and customer
trust and confidence, we have presented the empirical evidence which many researchers have
discussed on the concept of customer satisfaction within the financial sector as well as in a
regulatory environment in some cases.
Service Quality
Johnston and Kong (2011) defined service quality using two perspectives; operational service
quality and customer perceived quality. In their study, they noted that operational service quality is
the operation's assessment of how well the service was delivered to its specification as defined in
operational procedures, training manuals while customer perceived quality is the customer's
judgement of the quality of the service; their experience and the perceived benefits when in
comparison to their needs and expectations.
Othman and Owen (2001) conducted a study about customer satisfaction in Islamic Banks by using
the service quality model. Their study used a survey of 360 customers selected by the Systematic
Random Sampling. Using CARTER model scale, their results suggested that customer satisfaction
in Islamic Banks should be measured through the proposed thirty–four (34) items instead of
reducing it into the original number of SERQUAL's five dimensions and their

Furthermore, the premium rate you are quoted at 35 will be the premium you will pay when you are
65! Unless of course, you have purchased a policy that is designed to be paid up over a period of
years. This is a great benefit. You can pay up your coverage over a period of years, usually ten or
twenty, and then have the satisfaction of knowing that your life is covered forever!
On the other hand, some term policies do not guarantee that rates will remain level through the
whole term. To guarantee that rate, you could have to buy an extra rider, and all of a sudden, that
policy is not as cheap as it looked like before. If you do not make sure the premium will remain
level, and you do not buy the rider, you could find your rates increased after five years. With a term
policy, you will either have to accept the higher premium or lose the policy, with nothing to show
for the years you did pay on it.
Another advantage of permanent coverage is that it can actually be used as an asset. When you build
up cash value, you can borrow against that value. You can even choose to cash your policy in for the
value. Of course, then you could be left without life insurance, but at least you will have some cash
back for the premiums you put in. If you have a permanent policy, you can even choose to sell the
face value of the life insurance policy in many states. The purchaser will continue making payments
on the policy if it needs to be kept in force, but will pay a cash

Prior to 1912 India had no legislation to regulate insurance business. In the year 1912, the Life
Insurance Companies Act, and the Provident Fund Act were passed. The Life Insurance Companies
Act 1912 made it necessary that the premium rate tables and periodical valuations of companies
should be certified by an actuary. But the Act discriminated between foreign and Indian companies
on many accounts, putting the Indian companies at a disadvantage. The first two decades of the
twentieth century saw lot of growth in insurance business. From 44 companies with total business–
in–force as Rs.22.44 Crore, it rose to 176 companies with total business–in–force as Rs.298 Crore in
1938. During the mushrooming of insurance companies many financially unsound concerns were
also floated which failed miserably. The Insurance Act 1938 was the first legislation governing not
only life insurance but also non–life insurance to provide strict state control over insurance business.
The demand for nationalization of life insurance industry was made repeatedly in the past but it
gathered momentum in 1944 when a bill to amend the Life Insurance Act 1938 was introduced in
the Legislative Assembly. However, it was much later on the 19th of January 1956 that life
insurance in India was nationalized. About 154 Indian insurance companies, 16 non–Indian

Economic Order Supply Driven Structure Essay
economic order supply–driven structure was replaced by the demand–driven market structure
through liberalization and entry of private sector players.
3.4.3 INSURANCE REGULATORY ACT (1999)
The Malhotra Committee Report set the tone of change in the Indian insurance sector and
deregulation followed subsequently. Indian cabinet approved the Insurance Regulatory Authority
(IRA) Bill on 6 March 1999 which was aimed at liberalizing Indian life and general insurance
industry. However, due to political instability the bill could not be ratified by the Indian parliament.
The bill was subsequently termed as IRDAAct and passed in the Parliament on 7 December 1999.
With the passing of the bill the monopoly position of LIC was removed and private companies were
allowed to operate in the Indian insurance market. After the IRDA bill was passed in the Parliament,
private insurance companies were given licenses to operate in the Indian market. Joint ventures
between Indian and foreign companies were allowed but FDI was limited to 26 per cent of Rs 100
crore capitals of life companies and Rs 200 crore for non–life companies. Indian insurance market
witnessed a silent revolution with the IRDA in place. IRDA, in the light of with its Mission
Statement came out with several guidelines/circulars/orders in the interest of healthy growth of the
Indian insurance industry, protection of consumers' interest and orderly management of insurance

A Report On The Bank
In October, DCB Bank announced that it would rapidly expand its branch network from current 160
to 300 in the next 2 years. This massive expansion was seen by the investors against the backdrop of
the increased competition from micro finance institutions (MFIs) which have been awarded small
finance bank licenses, as well as payment banks which would soon become a reality in India. The
markets punished the stock soon after by raising concerns about the bank's profitability which had
already missed street expectations for the quarter ending in September. Hence, analysts lowered the
future estimates for DCB bank which was also corroborated by the bank itself.
Incidents like these bring to light the hazard the established banks might have to face once the
advent of new banks hits India.
In a year's time, the number of banks in India will rise by more than 45%. Until 2014 there were 25
public sector banks (PSBs) and 20 private banks, i.e. a total of 45 banks. With the Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) having granted licenses to 2 private banks, 11 payment banks and 8 small finance banks,
the number will rise to 66 in about 18 months when these banks get functioning. Contrast this with
the period from 1990 to 2014 when only 9 banks were given licenses, but in 2014–15 alone, 21
licenses have been granted; it spells a serious change in market dynamics. Until 2014 Since2015

Swot Analysis Of Kotak Mahindra
The day US met UK – The Merger of ING Vysya with Kotak Mahindra
India's banking industry is largely fragmented with more than half of the commercial banks being
state–run entities. It has seen one of the biggest mergers of all time in the recent past with Kotak
Mahindra taking over ING Vysya. While the Indian banking sector is still facing tough times, Kotak
Mahindra's merger with ING Vysya will help the former to expand their presence across India.
This merger has propelled Kotak into the top ranks of India's private lenders at number 4. The
combined entity will possess assets worth $32 billion. The merger will result into a network of more
than 1,250 branches and 1,900 ATMs across the country. Post the merger, Kotak which already has
most of its branches in West and North India, will get a strong hold in Southern India too,
particularly in the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. While Kotak's strength lies in its
corporate and retail banking, ING Vysya's strength lies in its small and medium enterprise business
(SMEs) operations, which will truly complement Kotak.

The merger is an all stock merger. 1000 shares of Rs.10 each of ING Vysya will receive 725 shares

each ING Vysya share based on the average closing price of Kotak shares during one month to
November 19, 2014, which is a 16% premium to a like measure of ING Vysya market price. The

Smooth Working Capital Operating Cycle: The primary objective of the working capital
management is to ensure smooth operating cycle of the business. This implies that the operating
cycle i.e. the cycle starting from acquisition of raw material to its conversion to cash should be
smooth. To Determine Lowest Working Capital: Working capital here refers to the current assets less
current liabilities (net working capital). It should be optimized because higher working capital
means higher interest cost and lower working capital means risk of disturbance of operating cycle.

company to take advantage of new opportunities or develop new products or adapt to alteration of
production techniques needed when new opportunities arise. Loss of credit opportunity: The
inadequacy of working capital funds make firms unable to secure attractive credit opportunities. A
company with working capital need not seek for credit opportunities because the firm will be able to
finance large stock and can therefore place large orders. Loss of cash discount: Companies try to
persuade their debtors to pay early by offering them a cash discount off the actual price. A company
with inadequate working capital funds will not be able to enjoy this benefit. Loss of goodwill: A
company with good reputation can expect cooperation from the trade creditors at the time of

Are Indian Banks Heading Towards Financial Embarrassment?
Are Indian Banks Heading Towards 'Financial Embarrassment'? – Kiran Kumar K V
The manner in which US Federal & other central banks of advanced countries are shaping their
monetary policies in order to avoid another economic downturn, is going to precisely result in that –
claimed Mr. Raghuram Rajan, RBI Governor at LBS last week1 (Refer Box–1). The practice of
zero–lower–bound interest rates of Fed and ECB in order to fuel industrial growth is unconventional
and exposing other markets as well to the macro–economic risks. While saying this, Mr. Rajan also
ensures to sound confident on the prospects of India and Indian Banks despite the external
influences like these.
While the Central Bank and the Government will dwell upon to ensure the external risks of the
above–kind, the banks per se, operating in India need to ensure that they are operationally covered
to sustain themselves. Ceteris paribus, especially the external risks, how do the Indian banks cope
with distress?
Objective of this Analysis: This analysis aims to test the possibility of Commercial Banks in India
going bankrupt in the next 2–3 years, purely based on their operational efficacy.
Methodology: Various ready–made methods of bankruptcy prediction are available, that take the
form of survival approach, option–valuation, neural–network models and other sophisticated
approaches. These methods focus on risks emanating from externalities as well as internal affairs of
a firm. As the aim of this study is to predict

These claims on banks can act as money because they are negotiable or repayable on demand, and
hence valued at par. They are effectively transferable by mere delivery, in the case of banknotes, or
by drawing a cheque that the payee may bank or cash. 2. Netting and settlement of payments –
banks act as both collection and paying agents for customers, participating in interbank clearing and
settlement systems to collect, present, be presented with, and pay payment instruments. This enables
banks to economies on reserves held for settlement of payments, since inward and outward
payments offset each other. It also enables the offsetting of payment flows between geographical
areas, reducing the cost of settlement between them. 3. Credit intermediation – banks borrow and
lend back–to–back on their own account as middle men. 4. Credit quality improvement – banks lend
money to ordinary commercial and personal borrowers (ordinary credit quality), but are high quality
borrowers. The improvement comes from diversification of the bank's assets and capital which
provides a buffer to absorb losses without defaulting on its obligations. However, banknotes and
deposits are generally unsecured; if the bank gets into difficulty and pledges assets as security, to
raise the funding it needs to continue to operate, this puts the note holders and depositors in an
economically subordinated position.

MEANING | A Mutual Fund is a trust that pools the savings of a number of investors who share a
common financial goal. The money thus collected is then invested in capital market instruments
such as shares, debentures and other securities. The income earned through these investments and
the capital appreciation realised are shared by its unit holders in proportion to the number of units

Nationalisation of Banks
Despite the provisions, control and regulations of Reserve Bank of India, banks in India except the
State Bank of India or SBI, continued to be owned and operated by private persons. By the 1960s,
the Indian banking industry had become an important tool to facilitate the development of the Indian
economy. At the same time, it had emerged as a large employer, and a debate had ensued about the
nationalization of the banking industry. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India, expressed the

Statement of Purpose
Statement of purpose "Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive
it." Rabindranath Tagore. I've always believed that the answer to my destiny lies in creating the
results that I desire. Success is never an accident, but is always by design. I believe perseverance,
drive, passion and strength of character create the right formula for success. I schooled at one of
Asia's premier institutes, Mayo College Girls School. I was thrilled to discover myself here –
playwright, artist, cross country runner, accomplished dancer, webdesigner and most importantly a
leader, having led my teams to success in a variety of events. I have been active in extra curricular
activities and as the assistant editor of school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Be it the recession trapped America or the promising Asia, whatever the economic circumstances
are, the boom in free trade and exchange around the world has brought immense opportunities in the
field of marketing & management, and I, intend to encash on these opportunities. Having worked
with an ad agency, I learnt and became interested in how product markets can be developed and
shaped through advertising based on innovative marketing strategies While working for Mahindra
finance and Mahindra Lifespaces, my projects involved assessing competitor strategies, consumer
research and conceptualizing one clutter breaking concept. For Mahindra Lifespaces we devised the
green homes concept. While all others in the market hankered after facilities within reach we offered
a healthy living place (no harmful paints, less energy consumption etc.), along with facilities within
reach thus helping them win India's 1st platinum certificate for green homes. For Mahindra Finance
we sent pre approved loans in the form of a prsonalized cheque to all our target customers across
villages. All they had to do was show the cheque, an identity proof and take home a home loan. We
succeeded in creating a niche image of the fastest and easiest home loans. My career goal is to
establish a business consulting firm providing international firms and investors with the strategies,
leadership, and partnership required to thrive and expand in this dynamic global business
environment.

  • 4. Pros And Disadvantages Of Merger And Acquisitions Introduction India being one of the fastest growing economies in the world, always tried to adopt the most successful practices across sectors. It tries to project itself in the global forum with big and mighty companies in the core sectors. Merger and Acquisitions acts as an important tool for the growth and expansion of the economy. The main motive behind the M&As is to create synergy between the likeminded companies or the strong companies and weakly performing companies. M&As help the companies in getting the benefits of greater market share and cost efficiency. Companies are confronted with the facts that the only big players can survive as there is a cut throat competition in the market and the success of the merger depends on how well the two companies integrate themselves in carrying out day to day operations. Like in the case of all business entities, banks want to safeguard against risks, as well as the competition which is ever growing. Also to exploit the available opportunities indicated by the existing and expected trends. M&As in the banking sector have been on the rise in the recent past in India. In this backdrop this article illuminates the key issues surrounding M&As in this sector with the focus on India. It seeks to explain the need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Stock Split Advantages And Disadvantages STOCK SPLIT: A stock split is a process in which the number of already issued shares increases without increasing the market capitalization of the company. In other words, Stock split is nothing but the division of already issued shares of a firm into a larger number of shares. Stock split increases the number of outstanding shares while at the same time decreasing face value & share price proportionally. i.e, when a company split its stock 2–for–1, then the number of shares will get double & face value, the share price will become half. The goal of the stock split is to make the stock accessible to as many investors as possible. A share split will result in all shareholders holding more shares in the company. Stock splits are mainly carried out with the intention that it should be affordable to small investors which will eventually enhance the liquidity of the stock. Hence, the main motive is to enhance the liquidity of the stock. If a company wants to reduce its market price to half, it will issue 2–for–1 stock split which means the company will issue additional 1 share per 1 share currently issued thereby doubling the total number of shares. There might be a 3–for–2 stock split, for example, which means that 3 shares are to be issued for each 2 shares of currently issues shares. A stock split is usually applied by companies that have seen their share price increase to levels that are either too high or are beyond the price levels of peer companies. For e.g, ICICI BANK, shares of ICICI bank used to trade at 1700 in 2014 & it's peers like HDFC BANK, KOTAK MAHINDRA etc. used to trade at half of its price at that time & then ICICI came up with a 5–for–1 stock ... • 10. Financial Advertising in India INSURANCE SECTOR ADVERTISING Insurance ads in india have come a long way in the last three decades. Be it television commercials, print ads, or bill boards. The change is remarkably noticeable. Earlier most of the advertising in this sector tended to play crudely on our consistent fear of the future and the unknown. A case in point being the television advertisement of firms like United India Assurance, National Insurance and Oriental Insurance. All the aforementioned companies provided insurance policies for contingencies like fire, robbery and natural disasters. Television commercials of that time tended to be rawly cooked scripts put together in the doors of hard sell copy. All of them invariably, toyed with our fear factor. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One aspect that remained constant throughout were the seasonal ads spread across all major Indian festivals. The overall image that SBI has managed to retain is that of a surly wisecrack devoid of a human face. Specific regions meant ads in the local language or dialect even though the sensibilities of the visual would be more or less pan–Indian. Accordingly the advertising was pretty much stagnant upto the mid 90's when banks all over the world suddenly started touting their wider array of services. The creatives were often compromised in order to make for a greater resonance with the local sensibilities involved. Regionally affiliated branches of the bank like State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Maharashtra, State Bank of Indore etc sparsely took out any ads of their own and even the ones released were very diminutive. The upheaval started around the mid 90's when State Bank of India started come out with a spate of well thought and visually compact ads. One of them, for instance had a picture of a stick shielding a golden egg from being crushed by a brick with the tagline Before You attached to it. The message was stark and well crafted. This was followed by a phase where State Bank of India started to advertise its wide range of services across the country. The positional leverage of the Surprisingly SBI campaign was the fact that the bank had singularly the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the findings, the economic mass was highest for Goldman Sachs while Toronto Domino Bank shows the least economic mass. When it comes to Mutual Funds, Pimco the world's largest mutual fund had the lowest economic mass; the exposure to the crisis could be the reason behind this. The American Funds Growth Fund of America has the highest economic mass. This study has been able to show that the Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle has implications for financial institutions. • 23. The Determinants Of Customer Satisfaction Essay In this section, it is noted that researchers gain knowledge based on observation and experimentation. Using the determinants of customer satisfaction like service quality, customer perception, customer experience, customer awareness, customer compliance process and customer trust and confidence, we have presented the empirical evidence which many researchers have discussed on the concept of customer satisfaction within the financial sector as well as in a regulatory environment in some cases. Service Quality Johnston and Kong (2011) defined service quality using two perspectives; operational service quality and customer perceived quality. In their study, they noted that operational service quality is the operation's assessment of how well the service was delivered to its specification as defined in operational procedures, training manuals while customer perceived quality is the customer's judgement of the quality of the service; their experience and the perceived benefits when in comparison to their needs and expectations. Othman and Owen (2001) conducted a study about customer satisfaction in Islamic Banks by using the service quality model. Their study used a survey of 360 customers selected by the Systematic Random Sampling. Using CARTER model scale, their results suggested that customer satisfaction in Islamic Banks should be measured through the proposed thirty–four (34) items instead of reducing it into the original number of SERQUAL's five dimensions and their ... However, due to political instability the bill could not be ratified by the Indian parliament. The bill was subsequently termed as IRDAAct and passed in the Parliament on 7 December 1999. With the passing of the bill the monopoly position of LIC was removed and private companies were allowed to operate in the Indian insurance market. • 41. A Report On The Bank In October, DCB Bank announced that it would rapidly expand its branch network from current 160 to 300 in the next 2 years. This massive expansion was seen by the investors against the backdrop of the increased competition from micro finance institutions (MFIs) which have been awarded small finance bank licenses, as well as payment banks which would soon become a reality in India. The markets punished the stock soon after by raising concerns about the bank's profitability which had already missed street expectations for the quarter ending in September. Hence, analysts lowered the future estimates for DCB bank which was also corroborated by the bank itself. Incidents like these bring to light the hazard the established banks might have to face once the advent of new banks hits India. In a year's time, the number of banks in India will rise by more than 45%. Until 2014 there were 25 public sector banks (PSBs) and 20 private banks, i.e. a total of 45 banks. With the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) having granted licenses to 2 private banks, 11 payment banks and 8 small finance banks, the number will rise to 66 in about 18 months when these banks get functioning. Contrast this with the period from 1990 to 2014 when only 9 banks were given licenses, but in 2014–15 alone, 21 licenses have been granted; it spells a serious change in market dynamics.
