The Many Accomplishments of Sacajawea
Sakakawea or Sacajawea was a Lemhi Shoshone woman, who is well–famed for Leading Lewis and
Clark on their famous expedition to find the Pacific Ocean through the Western United States,
acting as an interpreter and guide. She traveled thousands of miles from North Dakota to the Pacific
Ocean between 1804 and 1806, while bearing child in her womb. The National American Woman
Suffrage Association of the early twentieth century adopted her as the symbol of women's worth and
independence, erecting several statues, and plaques in her memory, and doing much to spread the
story of her accomplishments. Born in 1788, probable early 1790's, in what is now known as the
state of Idaho, she was born into an Agaidika, or "Salmon Eater," tribe of Lemhi Shoshone between
Kenny Creek and Agency Creek. She was one of the "Snake People" or Shodhone. Her name in
Hidasta was Tsi–ki–ka–wi–as, "Bird Woman". In Shoshone, her name means "Boat Pusher." In
1800, when she was roughly twelve–years–old, she and several other girls were kidnapped during a
raid by the Hidasta tribe, (also known as Minnentarees) in a battle that resulted in the death among
the Shoshone of four men, four women, and several boys. Sacagawea and the other kidnapped girls
were taken captive to the Hidasta village near present day Bismark, North Dakota, and Washburn
North Dakota. Some time afterward, the French–Canadian fur trader Toussaint Charbonneau took
thirteen–year–old Sacagawea and another young Shoshone named Otter

Summary Of ' Last Friday Kirk '
Last Tuesday Kirk was hanging out around Andy's Bar. Every day was miserable for the loathsome
Beggar and today started out just as miserable as the rest. While he was sitting against the door to
Andy's Bar, Kirk held a sign, begging for money and food. Kirk watched each person walk by him.
Many ignored him while others looked at him with disgust. After a few hours, Kirk accumulated no
more than two dollars and a half–eaten biscuit. Kirk was disappointed––two dollars wasn't even
enough to get a glass of his favorite ale! Amid this failure, Kirk noticed a man with a fine jacket
standing in front of him. The man looked about 30 years of age, didn't speak a word, and dropped
something into the Beggar 's hat. The man walked away and just as ... Show more content on

"Where did you steal that money from, Kirk?" "I didn't steal it––just get me something to drink." A
customer of the bar chimed in: "He didn't steal the money. He must have been prostituting again."
Another patron said, "Who would want that disgusting thing?" "Maybe his mother!" The bar bursted
into laughter. Kirk didn't care; it was common for him to be the joke of the bar. "Shut–up,
everybody", said Andy. "What do you want Kirk?" Kirk handed Andy the wad of hundred dollar
bills and asked for every bottle of Bud Light in the bar.
After a few hours of drinking, the Beggar was drunk. Kirk sat in the corner of the bar, seemingly in
his own world, accompanied only by his beer. As the hours passed, one brave soul approached Kirk.
"Excuse me sir", said the old man. "Would you mind giving me one of your beers over there––I
seem to have forgotten my wallet at my house." "Huh?", replied the Beggar. "What do you want?" "I
am kindly asking for you to share one of your beers with me." "Sure", replied the Beggar. "I'll share
one of my beers with you." The Beggar reached across the table and grabbed at one of the beers. He
opened it. "Here you go!" Just as the old man was reaching for the beer from Kirk's hands, Kirk
poured the beer all over the poor man. "How dare you!", said the old man. The Beggar laughed
aloud and proceeded to punch the old man right out of his seat. The old man was stunned. "It's on",
he said. The Beggar went after the old man, punches flying. The

The Corps Of Discovery And The Native Americans
On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson, with the approval of congress, created the Corps
of Discovery. Their mission was to map the newly acquired western lands of the Louisianna
Purchase, almost 1803–828,000 square miles of unexplored territory, as well as find a route to the
Pacific Ocean. This expedition was led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. During their
adventure, the group encountered many hostile Native American groups, and if not for Sacagawea,
these tribes would have surely jeopardized their operation. Due to her role as a helpful guide,
Sacagawea was crucial in the encounter between the Corps of Discovery and the Native Americans
because she negotiated and traded between the groups, functioned as a peace token, and served as an
interpreter. Sacagawea was born in 1788 in Lemhi County, Idaho and was part of the Shoshone tribe
for which her father was the chief. Her childhood was ruined when her tribe was attacked by the
Hidatsa tribe when she was 11 years old. She was captured as a slave and taken to what is not North
Dakota. She spent a miserable few years with the hostile tribe before being sold to a French–
Canadian trapper and fur trader named Toussaint Charbonneau. They lived among the Hidatsa and
Mandan Indians in North Dakota. She was still a young teenager when he forced her to marry him
and she became his second wife. One day, the Corps of Discovery were traveling through the
Hidasta–Mandan village when they experienced inclement weather.

The Life Of Sacagawea.
The Life of Sacagawea Believe it or not slavery was a problem even for Indians. Many Indians were
captured and sold into slavery, Indians such as Sacagawea who was born in 1788 (Timeline).
Unfortunately, Sacagawea was captured at a young age and was forced into slavery. We know her as
the young, brave woman who traveled with Lewis and Clark on their expedition to the West. She is
also recognized on the one dollar coin for her amazing adventure with the discoverers (Hoose 130).
There is much to be known about this extraordinary women. The way she was taken from her family

Unfortunately, Sacagawea became very ill after giving birth and received medical treatment. The
treatment given to her was a Shoshone ritual. They took cut up rattlesnake tail and dissolved it in
water. After she drank it she soon got better (Hoose 131). The problem Sacagawea experienced was
not the last on their exploration. Many more difficulties occurred during the trip. On May 14, 1805
(Sacagawea) in Montana (Timeline) a gust of wind almost knocked the boat over (Hoose 132).
Sacagawea risked her life and jumped into the water to save some of the items that fell overboard
(132). After the horrendous accident, they landed somewhere along the Lemhi Pass on August 12,
1805. Two days later (Sacagawea) Sacagawea encountered Chief Cameahwait, who she recognized
as her brother. Upon finding her brother she learned that both her parents had died and only two of
her brothers remained alive (Hoose 132). After leaving her brothers tribe they eventually reached
the end of their journey, the Pacific Ocean (133) on August 14, 1806 (Sacagawea). Once there they
heard about a dead whale that was on the beach. Sacagawea wanted to come along with them to see
the magnificent creature. "It seemed to surprise the others, partly because she had no rights as a
slave, but mainly because she had never before taken such a stand" (133). Soon after the whale
sighting they headed home. Finally the long trip

Sacagawea's Accomplishments
Imagine you wake up one morning being just a young twelve year old Indian girl that is suddenly
captured by the enemies of your fellow tribe. Then when you become a teenager you are won by a
40 year old French Canadian that you are forced to marry and become pregnant with when you are
only reaching the age of 15. This girl who journeyed 8,000 miles, with two unknown white men, is
the courageous Sacagawea. (Daub). This extraordinaire person was born on an unclassified date in
the year of 1788 to the Shoshone Indian tribe in Salmon, Idaho. Her father, Smoked Lodge, was the
greatly honored chief of the tribe and her mother was named Otter Woman. Sacagawea supposedly

Doctors had suggested that this medical problem had been aggravated after her daughter Lisette's
birth the same year. Eight months After her sudden death Clark, her fellow traveler during the
expedition legally adopted Sacagawea's two kids Jean and Lisette. Sacagawea may have only lived
to the age of 25 but she sure did leave a legacy for not just her name but also to women
wverywhere. Sacagawea certainly did prove that women are just as capable of the same things as
men are; which at the time women where nothing more than an understatement. Her legacy doesn't
just end there she was the recalled "North Star" that guided Lewis and Clark's corp of discovery

Summer Of Riley Book Report
This was a tough observation for me. I really bonded with these students and learned about their
lives so leaving them was exponentially difficult. When I walked in they were checking their math
homework like normal. Ms. J picked 5 different questions to grade with the students as she worked
them out on the board. She then had the students put their grade at the top and pass it in. I asked Ms.
J how she inserts grades because she is always grading when I come in her room. She said she looks
for progress more than the grade. Sometimes she averages them at the end of the week so if the
students were having an off week their grades would not suffer to terribly. The students then moved
to their centers of Tenmarks, mountain math problems 19–24 we checked, mountain math, and

She added a new group to the book club. This group was just reading science passages before
because Ms. J needed to find an interesting book on level for this group. The students made a paper
booklet for their books and wrote the questions that were posted on the board and their answers for
that book on a different page. So the first real page in the book would be the questions for chapter
one the next page would be where the students recorded the questions and answers for chapter two,
and so on. The new book added was named Summer of Riley. This novel follows the story of an
eleven year old who has a dog named Riley that they are trying to save from being put to sleep by
the law enforcement for chasing livestock. This raises a lot of interesting questions for the students
including how to lawfully go about protesting a law, which is quite interesting to hear their
conversations about it because they would never be in the position of William but they apply the
story to their lives, which was fascinating. Ms. J really fosters the love of reading in her class, which

The Success Of The Lewis And Clark Expedition
Sacagawea was a significant, admirable historical figure, though not many knew of her
contributions. She was a Shoshone Indian who worked as an interpreter, guide, and peacemaker for
the Lewis and Clark expedition. Through these essential roles, she became a vital part of the journey
to find territory. The efforts of Sacagawea lead to the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition
which greatly impacted the expansion and advancement of America.
The early life of Sacagawea became preparation for an important time to come. Her childhood
name, Bo–i–naiv reflected her reaction and connection to nature. Remaining in one place seemed
strange and tiresome to her. She grew up in the mountains with the Shoshone tribe who were
nomads. They were accustomed to scarce food supply and scavenging. In comparison to the Plains
Indians, Shoshones were poor, diminished in numbers, and lacked resources such as weapons.
Sacagawea had been trained since childhood to be able to find food in barren mountains and remain
healthy on an irregular food supply, as well as constantly moving. At age eleven, she was
kidnapped. Though opportunity for escape from her captors come, she could not leave her friends
behind–she was loyal to the point of danger and even death. As she was moved further away from
home and the only life she's ever known, she still did not want to go back. Rather, she longed to
know more about the captors' people and their culture. This is one turning point in her life.

The Journey Of Sacagawea
Throughout the course of American history, there are many men who have helped shape the United
States. However, there are very few women who have also helped shape the United States.
Sacagawea was one of those women. When President Thomas Jefferson tasked Lewis and Clark to
lead an expedition into the west, it was Sacagawea that contributed the most to their mission.
Without her contributions, expansion throughout America would have been much more difficult.
Sacagawea provided invaluable help to Lewis and Clark's expedition by using her knowledge of the
land and local tribes to guide them through safer routes, find food, and help them communicate with
other Native Americans. In order to better to understand Sacagawea's impact and legacy, learning
about her beginning are crucial. Before Sacagawea met Lewis and Clark she went through some
adversity. She was born in 1786 with the name Boinaiv as a member of the Shoshone tribe which is

family through the Rockies towards the Three Forks area of the Missouri River. However, while

just see her as a 'guide', she was much more than that. Despite going through the separation from her
tribe, being sold as a child, sickness, and having to raise a son, she still made huge contributions to
Lewis and Clark's expedition. Her bravery, knowledge of the land, and skills as an interpreter all
contributed greatly to the success of the expedition. Without her help, who knows if Lewis and

My Target 's Floor Pl How They Use Adjacencies Within Both...
For this assignment, I decided to visit Target while I was in New Braunfels to examine how they use
adjacencies within both their women's and men's clothing section. As well as, seeing the career wear
section for both sexes and how it is merchandised for the shopper. The retail industry is the kind of
business that has a very high level of competition. Knowing this, retailers realize the importance of
these attributes and why they are needed in order to create an ambience that will attract the market
they are targeting. Merchandisers have strategically placed items together in hopes that shoppers
will choose to grab that cardigan because it would go perfectly with the lace top that is placed next
to it or that pair of leggings because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It's stimulating to see how they used gender stereotypes when designing their floor plan because
they know women love to buy clothing and accessories which is why those are next to one another,
and they know that men love electronics and gaming which is why those are placed beside one
another, as well. By using adjacencies in their floor plans, they are presenting an intended route for
their shoppers. Personally, whenever I shop at Target, I typically walk the same route of the dollar
section, women's clothing, women's clearance, shoes, athletics, and the lastly, the beauty section.
Target understands what their consumers want, and I never walk out empty handed. Target has a
story behind the way that they would plan out their floorplan because they know the shopper and
have placed items respectively to one another. They have designed there store to be a one–stop
store, everything that you will need in one place and at a low price. In college towns, you will find
that they position their team colors closer to the front of the section, which connects the shopper
with the store. At Target, you are able to complete your outfit all in one place at a low price, and the
use of adjacencies gives an ambience for the shopper while he or she is shopping. I believe that
Target has been successful in the use of adjacencies in their floorplans because shoppers follow the

The First Colonial Currency By The Massachusetts Bay Colony
The first Colonial currency was issued in 1690 by the Massachusetts Bay Colony, while America
was under British rule. Other colonies began to issue their own paper currency, and use of the

pounds, and pence. In 1764, the British declared Colonial currency illegal. The Continental
Congress in 1775 issued currency to help finance the Revolutionary War. These notes were called
"Continentals," had no value in gold or silver. The Continentals were backed by the "anticipation" of
tax revenues, though easily counterfeited and without solid backing, the notes quickly became
devalued. This period marked the first time that United States currency's value was derived solely
from its purchasing power, as it is today.
In 1792, American Congress passed the country 's first coinage act. This meant that the United
States Mint was officially responsible for creating coins for public use. Thomas Jefferson and
Benjamin Franklin were two of the men who contributed research and ideas towards the early
versions of the coins. The Treasury Seal that was developed actually remained quite the same even
until today. Benjamin Franklin takes on counterfeiting, using his Philadelphia printing firm to

infant son, became the only woman in the small band of about 40 or so men. As they approached
more and more west, many Natives had never seen white men before and were ready to protect their
land. Lewis was sure the presence of a young woman and a baby would be an obvious sign their
purpose was peaceful (Armstrong 65). Over the course of the journey, Sacagawea identifyed many
edible berries and roots, which were used as medicine as well. Also, she mented clothes and nursed
the sick and injured (Moulton 7). On May 14, 1805, Sacagawea especially impressed her fellow
explorers when strong winds nearly capsized the boat she was riding in. She helped to hold down
the boat and recovered many important papers and supplies, that would otherwise have been lost.
Her calm effectiveness was also noticed compared to her panicking husband who could not swim.
Lewis, who was never as fond of Sacagawea as Clark was, was extremely grateful for her help
(Women in World History 32). On November 24, 1805 the expedition reached the place where the
Columbia River emptied into the Pacific Ocean. There the members of the Corps held a vote

Why Is Sacagawea Important
Sacagawea has become a legend in our history. Since her death, she has been honored with
monuments, statues, U.S. postage stamps, and the U.S. dollar coin. She was is the subject in many
books and movies, but what made her so important that she was greatly honored?
On Lewis and Clark's return journey, Sacagawea had known her way around southwestern Montana
very well, so she was able to lead the Lewis and Clark expedition through the best route for them,
which was in between Missouri and Yellowstone. "Her knowledge of routes, her skills with the
plants and wildlife, and her courage, common sense, and good humor contributed greatly to the
journey's success" (Benson 1360). Sacagawea joined William Clark and directed him through the
best mountain routes, pointing out the safest paths, and finding edible berries & roots for food.

Without her, Lewis, and Clark wouldn't be able to communicate with the Shoshone Indians and their
trip wouldn't been as successful as it was. This is because Lewis and Clark needed horses to travel
across the mountains and the only way that they could obtain them was from the Shoshone village.
Also, Sacagawea helped lead the journey because she knew where the best routes were. So without
her, Meriwether, and William could have traveled into another country's territory and there could
have been a possibility of being killed by the various Native American tribes. "Sacagawea was a
Shoshone interpreter and guide for the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804 to 1806, the first non–
Indian U.S. land expedition to the Pacific Coast and back" (Benson 1). She spoke both English and

Sacagawea was a definite essential to the Lewis and Clark expedition success. Lewis and Clark
were the first people to cross the western portion of America. Sacagawea was an invaluable member
during the expedition. People will say Sacagawea isn't as important as people say she is. I agree that
Sacagawea was an important part of the expedition. First, Sacagawea protected Lewis and Clark
during the expedition. The passage states, "They recruited a interpreter named Toussaint
Charbonneau, who brought along his Shoshoni Indian wife, Sacagawea, and her newborn baby
boy..." If Sacagawea has a son, it's less likely that someone would try to hurt them. "Sacagawea"

Persuasive Essay On Women Pay
If,for the same work, women make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, why don't business
hire only women? Wages are the biggest expense for most. So, hiring only women would reduce
costs by nearly a quarter and that would go right to the bottom line. Don't business want to be
profitable. Or, are they just really bad at math? Well, actually,it's the feminists, celebrities and
politicians spreading this wage gap myth who have the math problem. Here's why. The 77–cents–
on–the–dollar statistic is calculated by dividing the median earnings of all women working full–time
by the median earnings of all men working full–time. In other words, if the average income of all
men is, say, 40,000 dollars a year, and the average of women is say 30,800 dollars, that would mean
that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns . These calculations do not reveal a gender
wage injustice because it doesn't take it into account occupation, position, education or hours worked
per week. Even a study by the American Association of University Women, a feminist organization,
shows that the actual wage gap shrinks to only 6.6 cents when you factor in differents choices men
and women take. And the key word here is "choice". The small wage gap that does exist has nothing
to do with paying women less, let alone with sexism ; it has to do with differences in career choices
that men and women make. In 2009, the US Department of Labor released a paper that examined
more than 50 percent reviewed

a few years of transitional period before foreign coins were officially no longer recognized as legal
tender. The U.S. was experiencing a shortage of silver and gold; both vital at the time for coin
production. The alternative to get around the shortage for government to declare Spanish coins
would indefinitely be legally recognized even though it was a foreign currency. By the mid 1800s,
the Californian Gold Rush produced a swift influx of gold, allowing the Spanish coin to be revoked.
The U.S. Mint released the Sacagawea dollar coin to commemorate a native woman by the same

Sacagawea once said, " Amazing the things you find when you bother to search for them."
Sacagawea is one of the most well known American Indians. She overcame many obstacles to
become the woman we learn about today. She is a leader, caregiver, mother, and many more things.
Through her struggles Sacagawea still left her mark on the world, with many achievements, and
interesting life facts.
Sacagawea was born in 1788, in Lemhi County, Idaho that's when it all began. Historians disagree
on the date of her birth ("Buckley"). She was the daughter of the chief indian in the
Shoshone tribe, and was kidnapped by the Hidatsa tribe. In fact the name we know her by is in

Sacagawea also gained the privilege of having her face on the gold coin. In
2001, there was a fight over who should be on the one dollar bill. Some people wanted

congress decided to leave George alone, but add revisions to the gold coin. The new coins will
continue to have Sacagawea, and her son on the front side, but on the reverse they will have scenes
contributing to Native American achievements.(1"Sacagawea".) Around 1977,
Sacagawea was included in the 'National Cowgirl Hall of Fame'. Bill Clinton also awarded her the
rank of 'Honorary Sergeant, Regular Army,' in 2001. Sacagawea is, brave, kind–hearted, and very
determined. No matter what stood in her way she wouldn't let anything stop her from doing what
she wanted.
One thing you may not know about Sacagawea is that many people seemed to believe that she had

The Gender Wage Gap
Identity and Definition of the Social Problem The author identifies the social problem as the gender
wage gap, which is the difference of women's wages compared to men's for performing the same
work or job. The gender wage gap is recognized on a federal level and by the National Association
of Social Workers (NASW) (The Wage Gap, State by State, 2017). There are many potential causes
of the gender wage gap (Stevenson, 2014). Some causes may include the fact that policies have been
enacted to encourage women to remain in the workforce, but paid sick and family leave often result
in a woman's lifelong earnings to suffer. Additionally, because women tend to negotiate less, they
are less likely than men to receive promotions and/or raises but are more likely to be penalized for
taking that initiative. Some skeptics of the gender wage gap claim that the gap mainly exists because
factors other than gender, such as education and work experience affect a woman's wages (Schieder
& Gould, 2016). While education and work experience do rightfully affect a person's wages, men
are still being paid more than women despite women obtaining more education. Many critics shift
the blame to women for not earning more, but women are usually victims of gender bias in the
workplace.
The History of the Social Problem The gender wage gap is not a new issue. The gap traces back at
least to the 1960's when women earned 60.7% of every dollar of a man's earnings for the same work

Mr Chairman And Members Of The Committee Essay
Mr. Chairman and Members of the Committee: I am pleased to be here today on behalf of the
Americans for Common Cents to discuss some aspects of proposed legislation, such as S. 814,
which would significantly change the U.S. coinage system. In particular, I would like to review
those aspects of an April 1990 Gallup survey that bear on the questions before you today and
summarize a study I have completed on the economic effects of eliminating the penny and
instituting a price rounding scheme for cash transactions. The conclusions drawn from this review
are easily summarized: There is little public demand for or interest in a new dollar coin. Eliminating
the penny would impose a significant and regressive rounding "tax" on the American public. The
public appears to recognize this possibility and strongly opposes elimination of the penny. The
effect of the rounding "tax" on prices would in turn increase government outlays indexed (formally
or informally) to prices by at least $1.5 billion over a five year period. Public Attitudes Toward the
Creation of a New One Dollar Coin The Americans for Common Cents does not have a formal
position on the possible introduction of a dollar coin. However, in response to a request by the staff
of the Senate Banking Committee, questions about the dollar coin were included in the April 1990
Gallup survey designed to measure public attitudes towards various reforms of the coinage system.
The survey found that only about one–third of the adult

Sacagawea was born in 1788, in what is now known as Idaho, as the daughter of the Chief of the

She was on the expedition from April 7, 1805 until August 14, 1806. She was the interpreter and

knowledge of the terrain. She settled tensions between the explorers and Native Americans because
they saw her son strapped to her back and they felt the explorers were peaceful. She also did the
cooking for the other journeymen and made sure everyone was fed.
Lewis helped Sacagawea give birth to her son. Lewis wrote in his journal "about five O 'clock this
evening one of the wives of Charbono was delivered of a fine boy. it is worthy of remark that this
was the first child which this woman had borne, and as is common in such cases her labour was
tedious and the pain violent; Mr. Jessome informed me that he had frequently administered a small
portion of the rattle of the rattlesnake, which he assured me had never failed to produce the desired
effect, that of hastening the birth of the child; having the rattle of a snake by me I gave it to him and
he administered two rings of it to the woman broken in small pieces with the fingers and added to a
small quantity of water. " Her labor must have been so painful and scary at this age.
During the expedition Clark really started caring for Jean and asked Charbonneau and Sacagawea if
the could raise him as his old child and give him a good education. It was Clark who had nicknamed

How Did America Get So Big?
How did America get so big? You may know how America doubled its size, but do you know who

The Hidatsas lived far from her native land, right by the Missouri River (Now it's Bismarck, North

benefits of living with this tribe: she was treated as the rest of the women, there was plenty of food

Minimum Wage And Magical Thinking Opinion
Minimum Wage and Magical Thinking Opinion In the reading of Minimum wage and magical
thinking he discusses that raising the minimum wage would have a negative impact and would
actually hurt those that it is supposed to help and I would agree. Raising the minimum wage would
cause inflation to rise, thus basically canceling out what it was intended to do and making the US
dollar worth less. Secondly, minimum wage increase would cause the price of goods to rise and then
less people will be buying so, then you are paying employees more and making less revenue. Lastly,
this would hurt the very people that raising the minimum wage is intended to help because the
number of jobs that are entry level or low skilled will drop and then people who were making a 7.25
minimum wage will now be earning a 0 dollar wage. Minimum wage does not need to increase,
especially not as drastic as some people are calling for and the positive outcome that is thought it
would produce actually would be doing more harm than good. If the minimum wage were to rise
inflation in turn would rise too as Issac Newton's third law says for every action there is an equal
and opposite reaction. The general idea is to pay people more money, but not to increase the cost of
goods which in a perfect world that may work, but this is the real world and that isn't how it works.
If for example, McDonalds starts paying their minimum wage employees 10.10 nationwide in turn

looking nice again. But that was until my buddies and I started working at the new DG in Ino. We
are all there to make money to have for gas, keep girlfriends happy (which seems almost impossible
to do), and other expenses. We are determined to keep our DG up and running great with no dirty

Sacajawea
Sacajawea is one of the most known American–Indian women. Her voyage with explorers Lewis
and Clark was legendary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the

Mississippi river. One year after the United States doubled its territory with the Louisiana Purchase,
the Lewis and Clark expedition leaves St. Louis, Missouri, on a mission to explore the Northwest

With Sacajawea in the group, they appeared peaceful when they came across other American Indian

The Many Accomplishments Of Sacajawea

  • 1. The Many Accomplishments of Sacajawea Sakakawea or Sacajawea was a Lemhi Shoshone woman, who is well–famed for Leading Lewis and Clark on their famous expedition to find the Pacific Ocean through the Western United States, acting as an interpreter and guide. She traveled thousands of miles from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean between 1804 and 1806, while bearing child in her womb. The National American Woman Suffrage Association of the early twentieth century adopted her as the symbol of women's worth and independence, erecting several statues, and plaques in her memory, and doing much to spread the story of her accomplishments. Born in 1788, probable early 1790's, in what is now known as the state of Idaho, she was born into an Agaidika, or "Salmon Eater," tribe of Lemhi Shoshone between Kenny Creek and Agency Creek. She was one of the "Snake People" or Shodhone. Her name in Hidasta was Tsi–ki–ka–wi–as, "Bird Woman". In Shoshone, her name means "Boat Pusher." In 1800, when she was roughly twelve–years–old, she and several other girls were kidnapped during a raid by the Hidasta tribe, (also known as Minnentarees) in a battle that resulted in the death among the Shoshone of four men, four women, and several boys. Sacagawea and the other kidnapped girls were taken captive to the Hidasta village near present day Bismark, North Dakota, and Washburn North Dakota. Some time afterward, the French–Canadian fur trader Toussaint Charbonneau took thirteen–year–old Sacagawea and another young Shoshone named Otter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Summary Of ' Last Friday Kirk ' Last Tuesday Kirk was hanging out around Andy's Bar. Every day was miserable for the loathsome Beggar and today started out just as miserable as the rest. While he was sitting against the door to Andy's Bar, Kirk held a sign, begging for money and food. Kirk watched each person walk by him. Many ignored him while others looked at him with disgust. After a few hours, Kirk accumulated no more than two dollars and a half–eaten biscuit. Kirk was disappointed––two dollars wasn't even enough to get a glass of his favorite ale! Amid this failure, Kirk noticed a man with a fine jacket standing in front of him. The man looked about 30 years of age, didn't speak a word, and dropped something into the Beggar 's hat. The man walked away and just as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Where did you steal that money from, Kirk?" "I didn't steal it––just get me something to drink." A customer of the bar chimed in: "He didn't steal the money. He must have been prostituting again." Another patron said, "Who would want that disgusting thing?" "Maybe his mother!" The bar bursted into laughter. Kirk didn't care; it was common for him to be the joke of the bar. "Shut–up, everybody", said Andy. "What do you want Kirk?" Kirk handed Andy the wad of hundred dollar bills and asked for every bottle of Bud Light in the bar. After a few hours of drinking, the Beggar was drunk. Kirk sat in the corner of the bar, seemingly in his own world, accompanied only by his beer. As the hours passed, one brave soul approached Kirk. "Excuse me sir", said the old man. "Would you mind giving me one of your beers over there––I seem to have forgotten my wallet at my house." "Huh?", replied the Beggar. "What do you want?" "I am kindly asking for you to share one of your beers with me." "Sure", replied the Beggar. "I'll share one of my beers with you." The Beggar reached across the table and grabbed at one of the beers. He opened it. "Here you go!" Just as the old man was reaching for the beer from Kirk's hands, Kirk poured the beer all over the poor man. "How dare you!", said the old man. The Beggar laughed aloud and proceeded to punch the old man right out of his seat. The old man was stunned. "It's on", he said. The Beggar went after the old man, punches flying. The ... • 3. The Corps Of Discovery And The Native Americans On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson, with the approval of congress, created the Corps of Discovery. Their mission was to map the newly acquired western lands of the Louisianna Purchase, almost 1803–828,000 square miles of unexplored territory, as well as find a route to the Pacific Ocean. This expedition was led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. During their adventure, the group encountered many hostile Native American groups, and if not for Sacagawea, these tribes would have surely jeopardized their operation. Due to her role as a helpful guide, Sacagawea was crucial in the encounter between the Corps of Discovery and the Native Americans because she negotiated and traded between the groups, functioned as a peace token, and served as an interpreter. Sacagawea was born in 1788 in Lemhi County, Idaho and was part of the Shoshone tribe for which her father was the chief. Her childhood was ruined when her tribe was attacked by the Hidatsa tribe when she was 11 years old. She was captured as a slave and taken to what is not North Dakota. She spent a miserable few years with the hostile tribe before being sold to a French– Canadian trapper and fur trader named Toussaint Charbonneau. They lived among the Hidatsa and Mandan Indians in North Dakota. She was still a young teenager when he forced her to marry him and she became his second wife. One day, the Corps of Discovery were traveling through the Hidasta–Mandan village when they experienced inclement weather. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I walked in they were checking their math homework like normal. Ms. J picked 5 different questions to grade with the students as she worked them out on the board. She then had the students put their grade at the top and pass it in. I asked Ms. J how she inserts grades because she is always grading when I come in her room. She said she looks for progress more than the grade. Sometimes she averages them at the end of the week so if the students were having an off week their grades would not suffer to terribly. So the first real page in the book would be the questions for chapter one the next page would be where the students recorded the questions and answers for chapter two, and so on. The new book added was named Summer of Riley. This novel follows the story of an eleven year old who has a dog named Riley that they are trying to save from being put to sleep by the law enforcement for chasing livestock. This raises a lot of interesting questions for the students including how to lawfully go about protesting a law, which is quite interesting to hear their conversations about it because they would never be in the position of William but they apply the story to their lives, which was fascinating. • 13. The Success Of The Lewis And Clark Expedition Sacagawea was a significant, admirable historical figure, though not many knew of her contributions. She was a Shoshone Indian who worked as an interpreter, guide, and peacemaker for the Lewis and Clark expedition. Through these essential roles, she became a vital part of the journey to find territory. The efforts of Sacagawea lead to the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition which greatly impacted the expansion and advancement of America. The early life of Sacagawea became preparation for an important time to come. Her childhood name, Bo–i–naiv reflected her reaction and connection to nature. Remaining in one place seemed strange and tiresome to her. She grew up in the mountains with the Shoshone tribe who were nomads. They were accustomed to scarce food supply and scavenging. In comparison to the Plains Indians, Shoshones were poor, diminished in numbers, and lacked resources such as weapons. Sacagawea had been trained since childhood to be able to find food in barren mountains and remain healthy on an irregular food supply, as well as constantly moving. At age eleven, she was kidnapped. Though opportunity for escape from her captors come, she could not leave her friends behind–she was loyal to the point of danger and even death. As she was moved further away from home and the only life she's ever known, she still did not want to go back. Rather, she longed to know more about the captors' people and their culture. This is one turning point in her life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Journey Of Sacagawea Throughout the course of American history, there are many men who have helped shape the United States. However, there are very few women who have also helped shape the United States. Sacagawea was one of those women. When President Thomas Jefferson tasked Lewis and Clark to lead an expedition into the west, it was Sacagawea that contributed the most to their mission. Without her contributions, expansion throughout America would have been much more difficult. Sacagawea provided invaluable help to Lewis and Clark's expedition by using her knowledge of the land and local tribes to guide them through safer routes, find food, and help them communicate with other Native Americans. In order to better to understand Sacagawea's impact and legacy, learning about her beginning are crucial. Before Sacagawea met Lewis and Clark she went through some adversity. She was born in 1786 with the name Boinaiv as a member of the Shoshone tribe which is around present–day Idaho. For this assignment, I decided to visit Target while I was in New Braunfels to examine how they use adjacencies within both their women's and men's clothing section. As well as, seeing the career wear section for both sexes and how it is merchandised for the shopper. The retail industry is the kind of business that has a very high level of competition. Knowing this, retailers realize the importance of these attributes and why they are needed in order to create an ambience that will attract the market they are targeting. Merchandisers have strategically placed items together in hopes that shoppers will choose to grab that cardigan because it would go perfectly with the lace top that is placed next to it or that pair of leggings because it ... It's stimulating to see how they used gender stereotypes when designing their floor plan because they know women love to buy clothing and accessories which is why those are next to one another, and they know that men love electronics and gaming which is why those are placed beside one another, as well. By using adjacencies in their floor plans, they are presenting an intended route for their shoppers. Personally, whenever I shop at Target, I typically walk the same route of the dollar section, women's clothing, women's clearance, shoes, athletics, and the lastly, the beauty section. Target understands what their consumers want, and I never walk out empty handed. Target has a story behind the way that they would plan out their floorplan because they know the shopper and have placed items respectively to one another. They have designed there store to be a one–stop store, everything that you will need in one place and at a low price. In college towns, you will find that they position their team colors closer to the front of the section, which connects the shopper with the store. At Target, you are able to complete your outfit all in one place at a low price, and the use of adjacencies gives an ambience for the shopper while he or she is shopping. I believe that Target has been successful in the use of adjacencies in their floorplans because shoppers follow the route that has been designed for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Continentals were backed by the "anticipation" of tax revenues, though easily counterfeited and without solid backing, the notes quickly became devalued. Sacagawea Essay In May of 1804, two men set out on an important journey that would take them across the country and discover new land, but none of it would have been possible without the aid of one woman. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was planned by Thomas Jefferson, in order to explore the unknown in the newly purchased Louisiana Territory, and also to find a water route across the continent. Along the way the group of men met a quiet native, named Sacagawea, whose impact would later have a large effect on the success of their important journey. Sacagawea, with her infant son, became the only woman in the small band of about 40 or so men. As they approached more and more west, many Natives had never seen white men before and were ready to protect their land. Lewis was sure the presence of a young woman and a baby would be an obvious sign their purpose was peaceful (Armstrong 65). Over the course of the journey, Sacagawea identifyed many edible berries and roots, which were used as medicine as well. Also, she mented clothes and nursed the sick and injured (Moulton 7). On May 14, 1805, Sacagawea especially impressed her fellow explorers when strong winds nearly capsized the boat she was riding in. She helped to hold down the boat and recovered many important papers and supplies, that would otherwise have been lost. Her calm effectiveness was also noticed compared to her panicking husband who could not swim. Lewis, who was never as fond of Sacagawea as Clark was, was extremely grateful for her help (Women in World History 32). "Her knowledge of routes, her skills with the plants and wildlife, and her courage, common sense, and good humor contributed greatly to the journey's success" (Benson 1360). • 24. Persuasive Essay On Women Pay If,for the same work, women make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, why don't business hire only women? Wages are the biggest expense for most. So, hiring only women would reduce costs by nearly a quarter and that would go right to the bottom line. Don't business want to be profitable. Or, are they just really bad at math? Well, actually,it's the feminists, celebrities and politicians spreading this wage gap myth who have the math problem. Here's why. The 77–cents– on–the–dollar statistic is calculated by dividing the median earnings of all women working full–time by the median earnings of all men working full–time. In other words, if the average income of all men is, say, 40,000 dollars a year, and the average of women is say 30,800 dollars, that would mean that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns . These calculations do not reveal a gender wage injustice because it doesn't take it into account occupation, position, education or hours worked per week. Even a study by the American Association of University Women, a feminist organization, shows that the actual wage gap shrinks to only 6.6 cents when you factor in differents choices men and women take. And the key word here is "choice". The small wage gap that does exist has nothing to do with paying women less, let alone with sexism ; it has to do with differences in career choices that men and women make. • 28. The Gender Wage Gap Identity and Definition of the Social Problem The author identifies the social problem as the gender wage gap, which is the difference of women's wages compared to men's for performing the same work or job. The gender wage gap is recognized on a federal level and by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) (The Wage Gap, State by State, 2017). There are many potential causes of the gender wage gap (Stevenson, 2014). Some causes may include the fact that policies have been enacted to encourage women to remain in the workforce, but paid sick and family leave often result in a woman's lifelong earnings to suffer. Additionally, because women tend to negotiate less, they are less likely than men to receive promotions and/or raises but are more likely to be penalized for taking that initiative. Some skeptics of the gender wage gap claim that the gap mainly exists because factors other than gender, such as education and work experience affect a woman's wages (Schieder & Gould, 2016). While education and work experience do rightfully affect a person's wages, men are still being paid more than women despite women obtaining more education. Many critics shift the blame to women for not earning more, but women are usually victims of gender bias in the workplace. The History of the Social Problem The gender wage gap is not a new issue. The gap traces back at least to the 1960's when women earned 60.7% of every dollar of a man's earnings for the same work (The Wage Gap Over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mr Chairman And Members Of The Committee Essay Mr. Chairman and Members of the Committee: I am pleased to be here today on behalf of the Americans for Common Cents to discuss some aspects of proposed legislation, such as S. 814, which would significantly change the U.S. coinage system. In particular, I would like to review those aspects of an April 1990 Gallup survey that bear on the questions before you today and summarize a study I have completed on the economic effects of eliminating the penny and instituting a price rounding scheme for cash transactions. The conclusions drawn from this review are easily summarized: There is little public demand for or interest in a new dollar coin. Eliminating the penny would impose a significant and regressive rounding "tax" on the American public. The public appears to recognize this possibility and strongly opposes elimination of the penny. The effect of the rounding "tax" on prices would in turn increase government outlays indexed (formally or informally) to prices by at least $1.5 billion over a five year period. Public Attitudes Toward the Creation of a New One Dollar Coin The Americans for Common Cents does not have a formal position on the possible introduction of a dollar coin. However, in response to a request by the staff of the Senate Banking Committee, questions about the dollar coin were included in the April 1990 Gallup survey designed to measure public attitudes towards various reforms of the coinage system. • 37. Minimum Wage And Magical Thinking Opinion Minimum Wage and Magical Thinking Opinion In the reading of Minimum wage and magical thinking he discusses that raising the minimum wage would have a negative impact and would actually hurt those that it is supposed to help and I would agree. Raising the minimum wage would cause inflation to rise, thus basically canceling out what it was intended to do and making the US dollar worth less. Secondly, minimum wage increase would cause the price of goods to rise and then less people will be buying so, then you are paying employees more and making less revenue. Lastly, this would hurt the very people that raising the minimum wage is intended to help because the number of jobs that are entry level or low skilled will drop and then people who were making a 7.25 minimum wage will now be earning a 0 dollar wage. Minimum wage does not need to increase, especially not as drastic as some people are calling for and the positive outcome that is thought it would produce actually would be doing more harm than good. If the minimum wage were to rise inflation in turn would rise too as Issac Newton's third law says for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The general idea is to pay people more money, but not to increase the cost of goods which in a perfect world that may work, but this is the real world and that isn't how it works. If for example, McDonalds starts paying their minimum wage employees 10.10 nationwide in turn what used to be a one dollar cheeseburger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. U.s. Dollar Generals ( Dgs ) Views from the DG Dollar Generals (DGs) are popping up left and right. DGs are now in our backwards challenging all of our local businesses. Working at the DGs is not a hard job once the store is stocked and ready for business. I used to see DGs as where "sorry people" worked because overtime, people get lazy and let the DGs go and make it look almost impossible to get it back looking nice again. But that was until my buddies and I started working at the new DG in Ino. We are all there to make money to have for gas, keep girlfriends happy (which seems almost impossible to do), and other expenses. We are determined to keep our DG up and running great with no dirty isles, no items stuck behind others, and no rude employees. Dollar General is the place to shop because it has a good trained staff, a friendly–clean environment, and cheaper products to bring in more business. A store's staff is like columns, holding up the stores foundation from mayhem. To be part of a staff anywhere you have to be determined for whatever before you walk into the doors of that particular business to work for. If you have a store with employees working for you and they are not trained, they won't have a clue what tasks they are there to complete. Trained employees is a key to success in a business. The manager of the DG is in control of hiring workers who she sees will be a good worker for the business. It's not hard to comprehend the basic needs of a good employee. A good employee help's a ... She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. America was only 12 years old at this time and the territory ended at the Mississippi river. One year after the United States doubled its territory with the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark expedition leaves St. Louis, Missouri, on a mission to explore the Northwest from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean (History). Even before the purchase was finished, President Thomas Jefferson sent his private secretary Meriwether Lewis and army captain William Clark on an expedition into what is now the U.S. Northwest. ... There they bought horses from the Shoshone people to complete the rest of their journey. With Sacajawea in the group, they appeared peaceful when they came across other American Indian tribes because a man coming for a battle would not bring a woman and a baby. According to Clark's journal, the group reached the Pacific Ocean on November 4th, 1805. After reaching the Pacific coast in November 1805, Sacagawea was allowed to cast her vote along with the other members of the expedition for where they would build a fort to stay for the winter. They built Fort Clatsop near present–day Astoria, Oregon, and they remained there until March of the following year.
