In a world with the advanced technology, groundbreaking medical procedures, fine dining, and
luxury that this modern reality has to offer, it is often difficult to understand the extreme poverty and
suffering experienced by many people outside our borders. While it is widely agreed that something
should be done to help impoverished countries, how to go about that task is not entirely clear. The
"'consensus' of the self–described development community" (Easterly, 2013) in modern economic
development advocates large scale central planning by "experts" for development to be applied to a
location. This approach often supports the leadership of "benevolent autocrats" to put these plans
into action. William Easterly, on the other hand, uses The Tyranny of Experts to present an
alternative view based on four main arguments: "(1) the Blank Slate versus learning from history,
(2) nations versus individuals, (3) conscious direction versus spontaneous solutions, and, above all,
(4) authoritarian versus free development" (Bradley, 2016). This alternate plan of development from
the ground up is a more effective and natural way of helping raise underdeveloped countries to the

of the BVI's areas of natural and historical value. As always much hard work and dedication on the
part of the employees of these Departments went into the planning and implementation of this

cooperation and volunteer support of individuals in our sister island communities. Funding for
materials and transportation costs were also defrayed in part through sponsorship from local
businesses. The annual summer programme makes a lasting impression on the young minds of our

There are seven continents in the world made up of many powerful nations, big and small. These
nations all have one thing in common, they struggle with the large consumption of our
nonrenewable resources. Using these nonrenewable resources are harmful for the environment.
Among these powerful nations is the United States. The United States is one of the biggest
consumers of our nonrenewable resources. In this paper, I will provide an analysis of the United
States' consumption of resources. I will also compare the United States to Uruguay, a small yet more
effective country when it comes to utilizing our renewable resources.
The United States is the largest consumer of nonrenewable resources in the world. In the United
States the primary source of energy comes from 3 different resources. These resources are
petroleum, natural gas and coal. The three of these resources make up over 90 percent of the energy
consumption of nonrenewable resources in the United States. These nonrenewable resources are
considered fossil fuels that are not costly when it comes to extracting them from the environment.
Fossil fuels are a large contributor to the air pollution than any other resource.

connection with the environment concerns regulating services, which relate to control of biological
variability, presence of pathogens and pests, emergence and mitigation of environmental hazards, as
well as many other essential environmental processes (Perrings 1). Hence, it is obvious that if
biodiversity significantly alters, the environment will be susceptible to a wide range of various
impacts. Moreover, all of them will be of negative character. Diminishing biodiversity, for instance,

Water is vital for human survival, essential for the necessities of all life on earth; human health and

generations. With the population growing at alarming rates accompanied with resource depletion an
accepted part of society; we are using and exceeding all natural resources we have left. Until we
realize there is a vast shortage; by then it will be far too late.
Scientists and researchers have stated that fresh water resources are running low worldwide, and are
only expected to worsen over time as the population increases (Pearce, 2007), (Browns, Amazon
books). Given the current trends of resource depletion and population increase, as much as two
thirds of the world population in 2025 may be subject to moderate–to–high water stress, where only
a small fraction of available renewable fresh water, less than 0.01 percent, is readily obtainable for
the direct human use (United Nations, 1997a). Putting this in a simple explanation, no more of this
available renewable fresh water (0.01 percent of all water) is available today than existed at the start
of human civilization. So therefore as population increases and developments happen worldwide,

The Nile River is arguably one of the most important water sources in the world and has an
extremely rich history dating back thousands of years. Without the Nile, the ancient Egyptian
civilization would have never existed. Egypt is basically a whole lot of sand and not much else,

country and identify various factors, health policies, resources and progress to combat the health
issue. Health Issue Dengue is a virus spread by infected mosquitoes to almost 400 million people

committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among
nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights (Wikipedia).
'Ensuring environmental sustainability', climate change being one of the major factors, is one of the
millennium development goals of the UN. The United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP,
along with many organizations/agencies under the UN, collaboratively work towards achieving this
goal.
About the Chosen Aspect of Study
'How does the United Nations support the millennium development goal of promoting
