Electrical Traffic Light Signal Timing
2.10 Traffic Signal Timing
Consider a four–way intersection with one main street and a crossing side street, as shown in
Figure 2.15. The main street is assumed to be busy in comparison to the side street. The figure also
shows a state diagram of traffic signals for this intersection– one on the main street and the other on
the side street. Note that for a single traffic light only one color is displayed at a time. The logical
progression between states can be seen in the figure.
In State 1, the main street signal is Green and the side street signal is Red. This state persists for at
least the minimum green time (e.g. 30 seconds) or as long as there is no vehicle waiting on the side
street, assuming vehicle detection capability. But, if there is a vehicle waiting in the side street and
the minimum green time has passed, the waiting vehicle should get a chance to pass the intersection.
Therefore, in the next state, i.e., State 2, other vehicles in the main street are warned about the
changing light. This transition should last for a few seconds (e.g. 4 seconds). Now, every vehicle on
the main street has been warned about the changing light. So, in State 3, the main street signal turns
Red and the side street signal turns Green, which allows the vehicle waiting in the side street to pass
the intersection. This transition is going to last at least for another minimum green time period or as
long as vehicles are detected in the side street, but not larger than "Max Green" time.

Communication Of Vehicles And Vehicle To Infrastructure...
INTRODUCTION:
The evolution of wireless technologies in modern days helps to utilize these kind of technology in
many applications like vehicle safety application, a wireless data communication between the
vehicles and also between the vehicles and other infrastructure.
The objectives of vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communications are to avoid the
vehicle crashes, to examine the technological issues that may affect this short range
communications, characterise the communication needs of particular vehicle security applications,
to monitor the vehicles that breaches the law etc. according to the reports in coming 30 years there
will be a 60 percent increase in traffic on the freeways people spending lot of time and cost for
gasoline and other things due to the traffic jams. vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to other
infrastructure can help in avoiding this. my project focus on the communication of vehicles with
each other and with traffic lights and other infrastructure understanding the purpose of saving time
by reducing the travelling time and also to avoid the vehicle crash.
DESIGN and APPLICATIONS:
An inbuilt chip is provide to each vehicle that updates itself every second. the chip contain a storage
component that can store the information received within certain time, sensor, GPS and computing
element.
Every neighborhood have its own particular vehicular base station(VBS) so that at whatever point a
vehicle approaches in a specific VBS, that

The Effect Of Traffic On Major Cities By Running A Few...
Traffic Lab
ITEC 201 In this lab we will examine the impact of traffic on major cities by running a few test
simulations as well as examining data on the topic. Please answer the following questions in detail.
1. What are some major challenges you feel cities face when dealing with and handling large
amounts of traffic? What could be some potential solutions that could minimize some traffic
congestion?
When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of
accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some
drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake
throughout the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car
drivers, but it may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well.
On city roads, traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because
drivers may become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks.
Also, the running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential
solution are to build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation
services such as the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one
road. Also, cities may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the

The Problem Of Traffic Lights
The idea for traffic lights began in the mid–1800s when a system was essential to sustain the
amassed flow of horse–drawn traffic flow. By 1868, a signal was put in by the intersection of
George St and Bridge St, which is close to the Parliament. The installment provided pedestrians a
safe crossing, and an answer to officials that need to sustain traffic.
The semaphore involves a signal of a tall post with movable arm. When the arm is aligned sideways,
it mean stop. After dark, a gas lamp was lit at the top. The green lenses means to go, and red means
stop. Originally, the signal is controlled by hand, and the officers decided when the signal to be
changed according to traffic flow. They would also whistle to remind drivers, when the signal will
change. However, this method turned out to be hazardous. In 1869, a leak in one of the gas lines led
to a traffic signal explosion. The incident severely wounding the policeman operating it, and led to
the semaphore project to be terminated in London.
In America, the semaphore were be rolled out to public because there were more motorists travelling
on the road. However, many problems arose due to officers finding it to be difficult to sustain the
traffic congestion. Some cities started to install traffic towers, which allowed officers to have a
clearer view to monitor the traffic in an elevated platform.
In the early 1900s, the automobiles just gain popularity throughout the world and traffic becomes
busier results. Car were

Church Street Case Study
The system under study was the intersection of Church street and Gould street as seen in Figure 1.
This intersection was known for producing high volumes of pedestrian traffic particularly across
Church street. This was because Church street is a major road in Downtown Toronto and has a
decent flow of vehicles moving through. To simplify our data collection, we assumed all vehicles
and pedestrians in the intersection were law–abiding. Therefore, vehicles and pedestrians were not
allowed to cross if they were subject to a red light and were only allowed to cross if the light turned
green. When subject to a red light, vehicles and pedestrians formed a queue in their respective lanes
and waited until they were served (when the light changed to ... Show more content on

To accomplish such a problem, one must know the average capacity that can fit on Church street.
Therefore, using google maps software, the included scale within the program, the destination length
between Gould Street and Dundas could be found, and lastly the average length of a standard sedan
could be found on the internet. These are required to give a rough estimation to how many cares
may build up within the queue waiting to be served by the green light. This value was calculated to
be 35 cars as a maximum capacity the system can hold/adjust to. Given that a car is relatively 4.8 m
long, including a meter of space between each car (5.8 m from front to back), acting as a buffer
space, this means that not every car is bumper to bumper, there is space between each car acting as a
buffer in order to stop and go safely. This amounts to an average of 35 cars in the queue can be
waiting in order for the light to be green. Thus, begs the question, will all the cars in that large queue
leave? Most likely not, therefore our probabilities that the system is at the end state (state 32), would
be close to zero based on calculations and common

Why Are Railroad Crossing Important
Railroad crossing is very important. It is always important to be aware of your surroundings and
what is going on around you. If you are at a train stop, you also need to be aware of what is going on
around you. You can never be too safe at a train stop and railroad crossing. Also you should never
walk on train tracks or cross between two different carts. The train could start moving and then you
wouldn't be able to go back. As I stated earlier, the understanding of railroad crossings and train
tracks are very important.
` When you are approaching a railroad, you always need to slow down. You need to slow down
because anything could happen. The railroad crossing gates could signal an oncoming train at
anytime. If you have headphones in, hood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Put the distractions down and focus on what is important. It is never worst risking your life for a text
or your favorite song. When you stop at a railroad crossing you must be between 15–20 feet from
the nearest rail. You may not drive through, around, or under any crossing gate or barrier at a
railroad crossing while they are down or being opened or closed.
You should always look both ways when you are at a railroad crossing. If you look one way only,
you might not see something coming the other way. In the video "Utah Transit
Authority Operation Lifesaver" it explains that you always look both ways and even the other way
again. Something could come around the corner when you weren't looking and surprise you.
Walking on train track is also trespassing. you can get a big fine for being on them. when you cross
over between two carts, you are also trespassing. If you are crossing between two carts, the train
could start moving at anytime. If you get stuck or you don't cross fast enough, the train would go
with you on it. You could and would get extremely injured. A shortcut or faster way to get
somewhere, is never worth your life. Even if you are late for something, do not break the

A Push for Safer Crosswalks for RACC Students and Faculty...
In this modern day and age many drivers and pedestrians alike become easily distracted by: cell
phones, I–Pods, navigation systems, as well as many other distractions. These distractions can make
it quite dangerous to even cross the street. It is quite shocking how worn and faded some of the
crosswalks at RACC have become. Even without the distractions the crosswalks are rather difficult
to see and be able to stop if a pedestrian steps into it. The crosswalks at RACC connect the main
campus with the parking lots, as well as other buildings, and classes just off campus. Having a
student population of almost 5,000 undergraduate students in addition to its full faculty and staff, a
large majority of these people have no choice but to park ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore while they are distracted and driving their focus must alternate between whatever other
task is at hand and driving. This draws their attention away from the road, which can potentially lead
to an accident. A crosswalk is generally designed to provide a safe path for pedestrians to cross by
marking the designated path that people can cross and in which motorist should be able to see.
"Should" is the keyword, because as the paint fades, chips, and wears from traffic; the path becomes
harder for motorist to see. The consequence of this is a driver will be less aware that someone may
step into the road trying to cross at these points. Laws and legislation are beginning to crack down
on these drivers but the roads are still a dangerous place for a person to be.
There are a multitude of options to increase the safety at cross walks. "A pilot program in Virginia,
which is based off of similarly designed programs oversea, uses zigzagged lines painted on the road
at dangerous crossings"( Woodward, 2009). The idea is that the lines will draw a motorist's attention
to the road, the upcoming crosswalk, and they become aware of the potential for pedestrians to be
crossing. Placing a crossing guard at each crosswalk could serve the dual

Personal Narrative: A Road Trip

It was a foggy afternoon in gorge town with a small population of 100 people. It was chilly day and
everyone outside was in big puffy coats and the streets had little amount of cars with dim headlights
on. There was a small amount of white dust on the ground from the light snow the night before. The
crisp air hits my hand as I hold my little sister ally's hand whom has a much smaller hand since she's
only 6. A smaller child with long blonde hair. Sitting over her little green puffy coat that flares at the

As we're driving along the road we see no cars. It seemed the more we were driving the less cars
there were. As I see a sight one the road for a little gas station with the name of Mary's gas station
and variety store I know we have to stop. Not only because ally had to pee but we badly needed gas
now otherwise we would never make it to Freeport. As we ease into the gas station on the slick
abandoned road I pull up to one of there two gas pumps. It seemed as though no one has ever been
here I look over at David and as to bring ally in to the bathrooms wile I pay. He agrees and I feel as
though me and David are booth a little creeped out on how abandoned this gas station is. Grabbing
my black leather purse out of back seat I put it in my lap. Digging though pens, makeup, papers, etc I
can't find my brown and pink wallet. Getting worried and stressed about the possibilities of I don't
find my wallet I try and calm down. I run into the gas station as I see ally's already in the I see
David standing by a door with a dim light over the door. I open the clear dirty door as i makes a
ginormous creek noise. When I first walk in there's one guy at the counter seems to be in his 40s and
smokes. This man really fits his job by him looking one minute away from death. Standing in front
of David I ask if he has any money on him he shakes his head wile apologizing. I had to think of
something to do so I went up to the man with no joy telling him my situation. The man nods and
replays " I will give you a full tank of gas... if you bring me with you" as I have to honestly consider
it I knew it wasn't right but it was the only choice I had so I agreed I was very unsure the plans for
when we got there but I desperately needed gas. He pushes the bottoms on his computer making
clicking noises and then looks up at me and says we should be good and grabs his coat. I look at

Differences Between Indonesia And Indonesia
As I used to stay in Indonesia for 17 years, I know exactly how is the culture, the people's habit in
Indonesia, even the customs. But now, as an international student who went to study abroad in New
Zealand, I have seen many differences between Indonesia and New Zealand, especially for the
customs. The customs between both countries are totally different. Something that I have
encountered in New Zealand, not necessarily I found it in Indonesia, and vice versa. If we look from
the land area and population in both countries, it is clearly different. The food and the way in which
Indonesian eat is also different from New Zealander. Moreover, New Zealander also has more self–
awareness while they are driving compared to Indonesian.
There are many differences between both countries. First, the total land area of New Zealand is 27
million hectares (McKinnon, 1997) with the total population of 4.471.309 people that counted on ...

The Problem Of Car Accidents
Introduction and background Since the creation of automobiles in 1769, the number of cars on the
roads has drastically increased and with it the number of car accident. In the United Stated there
have been a total of 32,719 car accident; in the year 2013 that either did or did not involve
pedestrians or cyclist. The overcrowding of streets and large number of car accidents can be
attributed to the large influx of cars. While the number of accident in Texas is high standing at 3,382
as of 2013; a large amount; 10% of those accident took place in Harris County, in comparison to
other counties in Texas that have less than .1%. Car accidents have many causes such as running red
lights, drinking and driving, speeding, use of mobiles, lack of sleep and vigilance while preforming
the task of driving. These actions caused numerus deaths of the drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
Which is also why the leading cause of death in children is car accidents. Problem The problem at
its core of car accidents is the overcrowding of the roads; which is not only a social issue but a
financial issues due to the huge costs that are placed on the public and the government in order to
cover an accident; while cost is a term that is more than often used to discuss money, in this instance
it will also be used to not only describe money but also monetary gain through an occupation. While
the majority of the expenses are covered by the people that were involved in the incident there are

Cause and Effect Essay
Cause and Effect Essay – The Right Of Way
In the state of Washington, pedestrians have always had the right of way. However, the recent
enforcement of this law is causing traffic problems citywide. Traffic tends to come to a screeching
halt without any warning. I was driving North on Nevada Street in Spokane, three of four lanes of
traffic had stopped to allow a man and a young child to cross the street, the fourth lane of traffic had
not stopped. Finally a car in that fourth lane of traffic stopped, causing the car behind it to slam on
the brakes, literally coming to a screeching halt. Had the man and child started across the street and
the screeching car not been able to stop, it would have hit the already stopped ... Show more content

The Washington Administrative Code (WAC 132G–116–090) states: "Pedestrians –– Right of way.
(1) The operator of a vehicle shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping, if need be, to so
yield to any pedestrian crossing any street, roadway, fire lane, or pathway with or without a marked
crosswalk." When a car has to stop for these pedestrians to cross, it can cause traffic problems. On
the other hand, Spokane City Municipal Code 16.61.240 states: Every pedestrian crossing a roadway
at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an
intersection shall yield the right of way to all vehicles upon the roadway.
Local law enforcement has stepped up their efforts to enforce the pedestrian crossing law. Recently
the Spokane County Sheriff's Department set up a traffic sting near Whitworth College; several
officers dressing in plain clothes posed as pedestrians crossing Hawthorne Road. The Whitworthian,
the campus newspaper, reported
Sophomore Meagan Schwartz slowed her car down when she saw a man step into the road at the
crosswalk. She saw that the man wasn't in a hurry to cross the street and assumed she was a safe
distance away, so she continued driving. Moments later, she was pulled to the side of the road by a
police officer on a motorcycle.
The result was a seventy–one dollar ticket for the

Street Traffic, Safety, and Accidents
Roads are the backbone and essential modes of transportation, providing many different supports for
human civilization. Among the early and inexpensive technologies available for developing
comprehensive traffic, management proposals are Road capacity, traffic sign (i.e. pavement
markings, road sign, etc.), Guard rails, cross marking etc traffic calming, vehicle parking regulations
and controls, pedestrian measures, accident reduction programs, Bus priority measures. As
technology evolved, application of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced. (Olaogbebikan
J. E et al. 2013). Street lighting also improves safety for drivers, riders, and pedestrians. They
concluded that on average the presence of street lighting reduces the severity of injuries by a factor
of 3.
Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying
intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and
traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more
coordinated, and 'smarter ' use of transport networks. Roadways are, unfortunately, the scene where
preventable urban fatalities take place. Pedestrians unknowingly crossing busy streets; drivers

Auckland, a highly populated city in New Zealand experiences traffic problems frequently. This
problems needs to be resolved through development of a road system that would tackle challenges
imposed by the population. Auckland Transport manages road projects in the city. One of the
projects in Auckland city that is underway by Auckland Transport (AT) is the upgrade of Dominion
Road project. AT inherited this project from the Auckland city council, which had earlier undertaken
public consultation for a proposed upgrade to Dominion Road. Key concerns from the earlier
consultation undertaken by the Auckland City Council included loss of on–street parking, and
concerns that use of bus lanes by other vehicles would create four–lane highway. AT in its design
includes the concerns raised and has engaged both the public, including the potentially affected
residents, and other key stakeholders from the government and the private sector. AT has opened a
feedback process in which views about the improvement of Dominion road are collected to be
examined and possibly to be approved and included in the final design.

Accessible Personal Movement Of Central Urban Environment
Accessible Personal Movement in Central Auckland
Setting The Scene:
Identifying the how accessible the central urban environment in Auckland is during daylight hours
and how it affects people, and also what people are most disadvantaged. There are many ways
people are affected by this either it is done by how auto–dominant the area is or how people are
affected by this problem. The route that was taken for this assignment was Silo Park to Aotea
Square.
The way people use vehicles and are affected by it; these problems may come from either public
transport and also can come from personal transport. The way people think also have an effect on
how appealing the area/streets are. Green Streets is also mentioned which shows how a street is
environmentally friendly and what it does to help the area for the better (Adkins, 2012).
Walking through a route can has a positive impact this can be done to save the environment which
helps the person that keeps them away from vehicles that use a lot of fuel which can cause pollution
that is not good for the environment. How people use vehicles also is not good for the environment
and area to develop and keep it environmentally friendly when people walk it makes it better for
development and to be more sustainable in the future. The personal response from people is very
vital about people learning about the sustainability of life and what people should do to be more
sustainable and to live longer (Bradshaw, 1997).

Sociological Perspective
Coming from AJP, I needed to cross Fifth Avenue to start my walk, and like what I had to do every
day when I had class at that building, I found myself once again waiting for the walk sign to appear
across the street. This Sociological Perspective of seeing society in our everyday lives showed how
the smallest personal choices, even the action of walking, is affected and shaped by society and how
it functions. As I was walking through Fifth Avenue, I noticed that there were buildings at every
corner of this long street. Students, some wearing Carlow gear while others wore Pitt gear,
populated the sidewalks, conversing with other students. As I got farther into Fifth Avenue, I could
see UPMC hospitals and signs with directions of entrances and parking lots. People populated the
end of the sidewalk in this street, waiting at the Bus Stop sign. In the area of Forbes Avenue, there
were a lot of restaurants, and I noticed many students walking to get in and eat.
The pedestrian traffic was very similar to the automobile traffic on the street. Through the
Sociological Perspective of seeing the general in the particular, I was able to identify the general
patterns of the group of pedestrians walking on the sides, including myself. There is a systematic
way in society that traffic runs, and as I was walking, I, along with the rest of the pedestrians near
me, looked both ways of the street before crossing at the end of the streets at Forbes. At one point in
my walk near in Forbes,

The Importance Of Crosswalks
Every day Public Administration #3 The observed activity was crosswalks. Crosswalks enable
pedestrians to cross busy and hazardous roadways more safely. Prior to the advent of crosswalks
pedestrians would cross the street anywhere and were at risk of injury even by horse powered
vehicles. This is important to Public Administration as it is a safety concern for the public. This
paper will discuss the use, funding, government and citizen involvement, and how the chosen topic
of crosswalks are related to Public Administration.

Citizen Involvement Citizens have several ways to get involved. Meeting are open to the public at

Any Citizen has access to crosswalks and any citizen can submit a request or review for safety. All
citizens have a right to safety. Pedestrians are merely people traveling without a road based vehicle.
Any person who would choose to become a pedestrian would very likely be using this service if
they are abiding by the law. Therefore, this service affects everyone and can be used by anyone.
Funding
The construction and up keep of crosswalks is paid for by taxes as many forms of Public
Administration are. The two forms of taxes that pay for this service are sales taxes and Gasoline

Essay about Cell Phone Use While Driving should be Banned...
Cell Phone Use While Driving should be Banned in all States Imagine you are driving down the
road and you begin to notice the car in front of you is swerving. You start to wonder if the driver
may be under the influence; you keep a close watch on the car, but keep your distance for safety
precautions. All of a sudden the driver slams on their brakes to avoid hitting a pedestrian and you
end up rear–ending them. Later you discover that the driver was texting on their phone and almost
hit the pedestrian because their attention was elsewhere. How would that make you feel? Now, you
have to pay to repair the damages on not only your car, but the other driver's car as well. I believe

Once a driver gets on their phone, they also may decrease in speed because they are not focusing on
the speedometer, which could lead to other drivers becoming agitated. Then the other drivers may
exhibit road rage which could become dangerous to others on the road. A driver's focus should
always remain on the road. If one is on their phone they cannot see or hear what is happening
around them. A driver being on the phone while driving is one of the biggest distractions drivers
today face. Lastly, cell phone use while driving should be banned because it can become dangerous
for oneself as well as others on the road. Not only does cell phone use for drivers endanger other
people, it endangers the life of the operator itself. Drivers can run off the road into trees, ditches, or
poles; they may also run into other cars or drift into oncoming traffic. Using a cell phone while
driving also puts other drivers on the road in danger; if a driver is texting, their eyes are on their
phone and they may not see the car in front of them stopping, which will lead into a wreck that
could injury someone. I believe all states should ban all use on cell phones while driving. I feel by
doing this, drivers may stay safer. There are already laws in some states prohibiting the use of
phones. A driver using the phone while driving will become distracted, which takes their attention
away from the road. If one is not focused on the road, then

Descriptive Essay On Eclatant City
Éclatant City Paris, France is truly an incredible city. While it is best known for its tourist
attractions, including the Eiffel Tower, Paris is so much more than this. Despite being relatively cold
all throughout the year, the warmest being in the high sixties, Paris has a population of around
2,241,400. Paris is a very historical city, founded in the 3rd century BC by the Gauls. Some tourist
attractions in Paris include the Louvre museum, Notre Dame, and Disneyland Paris. While Paris is
great, it did need improvements, and the end result was Éclatant City, our new and advanced city.
There are many infrastructures to choose from, but the most important ones that we have placed in
our city are modes of transportation, education, health, and safety. It is important to every citizen,
that they can get to places they want to be to enjoy the beautiful cityscape. It is also crucial that a
city is safe, which we have decided to improve in our city. Many new forms of transportation and
safety improving items will be placed in this city to make it even better than before! Éclatant City is
a place of the future. When remodeling the city, we added many futuristic elements, such as drones.
We used police drones to help keep our citizens safe. These drones fly around, and, if they spot
something out of the ordinary, a message is sent to the local police station, ensuring that the problem
would is taken care of. These drones can also spot fires in the city and alert the fire

My hand reaches for the door handle. The cold metal sends a shiver down my spine. Two steps and
my body is out the door. A gust of wind makes my footing unsteady, without thinking I lunge for the
building for support. I need this fresh air, the office was suffocating. A walk on the sidewalk is just
the break I need. The stoplight turns red. I turn my head left, then right. The coast is clear. My legs
scurry across the road. Safe. The familiar sidewalks lead me past the newspaper, the post office, the

two stoplights delay our travel.

Reasons: Why Kyoto Is Better Than Bangkok
Every country must have their own' good points, some are good for travelling, some are good for
living and some are perfect for treating. In the present Japan is famous in this situation even the
place around city of Japan that called Kyoto. Kyoto also has many good places for us to stay and if
we compare the Kyoto with Bangkok we will know that, Kyoto is better choice for every person to
live than Bangkok.
About safety and security, there are some reasons that Kyoto has more safety and security than
Bangkok. First, in Kyoto, the traffic light for walking across the crosswalk is like a rule for people to
follow so the number of car accidents is less than Bangkok. Japanese people will not walk across the
crosswalk until the traffic light for the pedestrian crossing light turn to a green color while Thai
people will walk across the crosswalk in every situation. Kyoto has the penalty for their people if

Identify The Different Types Of Drivers Essay
When traversing highways and interstates, people run into many different types of drivers. Those
operating vehicles all fall into a certain category. Drivers, though more than likely not self–aware,
have a very specific way of driving that allows them to fall into such a category; however, drivers
typically do not have a problem calling out other drivers on their faults. It would almost seem that a
long trip or even a quick run anywhere is really just a never ending sequence of blaring horns and
screeching halts in contempt for drivers outside of one's own classification. Vehicle operators will
either drive carelessly, dangerously, or carefully. Drivers can be classified into three categories: The
DJ, Daredevils, and Goody Two–Shoes. The first type of driver falls into the careless category, also
known as the DJ. DJs tend to blare music at deafening decibels. To maximize their disturbance, DJs
also typically drive with all windows rolled down including the sunroof. If the cars immediately
surrounding them are not shaking along to the beat DJs are unsatisfied. DJs are also really good at
multitasking. Rather than their main focus being on the road or the surroundings, DJs' attention is on
whatever handheld device they're selecting music from. Most of the time they come out alive. DJs

rage empowered shouts of neighboring drivers. These categories also present a sort of hate triangle.
The three types do not often coexist peacefully, but on rare occasions you can find them driving in
harmony. Drivers can be classified into three categories: The DJ, Daredevils, and Goody

A Brief Note On The Capital Of Lebanon
One of the main factors for a neighborhood to be effective and successful is to have a well–planned
transportation system that would let people move from one place to another not only using
automobile vehicles, but also through walking. However, nowadays, with the increased interests of
architects and planners on enlarging the roads and fighting traffic problems in cities, walkable
environments are being ignored threatening the pedestrian experience in streets and sidewalks. But
not all pedestrians can manage to overcome the challenges of the bad street experience. People on
wheel chair, kids and older adults are another type of pedestrians that are being forced to stay home
and drop out of the social life for they are considered to be the weak and dependent kind of people.
Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is one of the Lebanese cities that are facing a significant decline in
pedestrian access due to the lack of walkability in its infrastructure. Its streets are losing their
engaging and comfortable spaces, and are becoming a simple reflection of cars, noise and pollution,
with no public life. With the recognition of the health benefits of walking, the case for creating
better walking environments has to be stronger and should become an important factor in the design
of transportation systems. So what are the different problems that discourage dependent people from
walking in Beirut? How can lack of walkability decline the health of older adults? And to what
extent can

Utilization Rates of Pedestrian Bridges in Kuala Lumpur
Introduction
Traffic congestion and air pollution are becoming growing problems in many cities in Malaysia. In
order to discourage automobile dependency, and increase pedestrian activities particularly for short
trips, the government has begun to promote non–motorized travel options by improving pedestrian
facilities that promote an assured level of convenience, comfort, and security for potential users.
One of the facilities that have been provided by the government is the pedestrian bridge.
A pedestrian bridge or footbridge is a bridge constructed for pedestrians and sometimes for cyclists
and bikers as well. It reduces the conflicts of traffic flow between the pedestrians and the vehicles
by separating them. Hence, it helps in overcoming accidents and offers safety.
However, due to the added travel distance, most of the pedestrians normally avoid using these
bridges. This in turn, adds to traffic congestion and accidents that involve pedestrians.
For the purposes of this research evaluation, the site selections are around the city of Kuala
Lumpur.¬¬
Background to the Study
Pedestrian bridges may offer safety and protection to the users but pedestrians often avoid using
these facilities. According to the survey that has been conducted by H. Rizati, Siti Zaharah Ishak,
Intan Rohani Endut (2013), this is due to several factors. They are the added travel distance, the
location of the facility, and the vehicle volume. Pedestrians prefer to utilize pedestrian

Why Is It Important to Follow Directions? Essay
I think it is important to follow directions because if people didn't follow directions we would have a
lot of CHAOS in our world!!! The reason why we would have chaos is because kids would do
drugs, have kids at REALLY young ages and there would probably be more homeless people. I
think it is important to follow directions because for instance you could be walking across the street
(say there's no speed limit, red lights/stop signs or anything like that) you would obviously get hit by
a car and most likely end up in the hospital or be dead on the spot. That's why there are traffic rules
that should be followed. Another reason following rules is important is if there were to be a man

If you don't listen to your parents, you can grounded, have candy, your cell phone, or computer time
taken away or have no friends over. In school, if you don't listen to your teacher, you can be
embarrassed in front of the class, have to do extra work (like this essay), lose class points, or even
get kicked out of the class. You will also not get good grades because you wouldn't be paying
attention to learn anything. You could also distract other kids around you that want to learn. Another
important thing is organization so you don't lose things and keep important things in the places that
they belong. I've learned that the hard way! I have spent a lot of time doing homework assignments,
then misplaced them and was unable to turn them in. I also didn't get 100% on my science binder
since I couldn't find some of my assignments and notes. I had a good talk with Mrs. Merolo and
Fray about being organized. Mrs. Merolo helped me by giving me a folder where I could put my
homework "to do" on one side and things to "turn in" on the other side. Fray taught me how to
organize my assignments, quizzes, tests, bell work and notes in my binder, which has helped me to
find my things when I need to study for quizzes and tests. I think I will be able to get better grades
after this. Following rules also means following what it says on a sign. For example, stop signs,

An Brief Introduction Of Arduino

1. History of Arduino
Arduino, a relatively new prototyping platform, has gained great popularity all over the world in less
than a decade, over 700,000 official boards had been manufactured by 2013 [1], not to mention the
amount of unofficial clone boards which is very likely to surpass the official ones [2]. In this paper,
the basic concepts about Arduino, the underlying principles are shown briefly, also the reasons that
it's so prevalent among both industrial and individual user groups, as well as some of the common
applications of it.
It's in 2002 that Banzi Massimo, a software architect, was hired by IDII (Interaction Design Institute
Ivrea, a graduate school based in Ivrea, Italy) as an associate professor to promote novel means of
doing interactive design, which is also referred as physical computing. But with limited class time
and reduced budget Banzi can't do much, like others he had to rely on a microcontroller called
BASIC Stamp which is developed by a California company Parrallax. Banzi found that board has
inadequate computing capability for some projects and a little bit high–priced (around US$100),
also it can't run on Mac system which is widely used among IDII designers. It's since then that he
started to think about making a board himself that doesn't have these problems. Then in 2004, one of
Banzi's students Hernando Barragan developed a new prototyping platform called Wiring when

Pros And Cons Of Railroad Crossing
Railroad crossings can be very dangerous. In my opinion, people don't really take them seriously,
but they can be very hazardous and sometimes fatal. Here are some tips from unit 5 lesson 7 for
railroad crossing safety: Always make sure to slow down and turn your radio down when
approaching a railroad crossing. This will give you time to assess whether or not there's a train
coming and you will also be able to read the warning signs and hear any horns sounding. In the
video "It's your choice" a young boy who was walking on the tracks had his headphones in and

You should never drive under, through or around any barrier or crossing gate at a railroad crossing
because you never know when a train is going to come. Sometimes there aren't barriers or gates but

feet to the nearest rail when coming to a stop. Warning signs are there to protect you and it defeats

Central control stations will be able to instantly customize the lines and words in real time,
alleviating traffic congestion and making the roads more efficient as well as safer. Cities and towns

Persuasive Essay On Crosswalks
Summary
Since moving into the neighborhood about seven months ago, there are a lot of activities for the
residents to partake in. The neighborhood has eleven playgrounds, (some which are for younger
children considered tot lots), four basketball courts, a pool, a recreational center, and mailboxes at
the end of each resident's street. Seems like a lot of places you are able to walk, right? One thing
missing in the neighborhood is crosswalks leading to each of these different places and more. What I
am proposing is to have cross walks put up throughout the neighborhood so residents are safe when
crossing the road.
Problem
A large circle is the main road for the neighborhood and has eight connecting streets leading to
where the resident's houses are located. Families each day walk around the neighborhood to
different activities such as the playgrounds, basketball courts, the pool, and other activities. The
problem is when residents have to walk to different places there are no safe places to cross the road.
Currently there are no painted crosswalks or even pedestrian crossing signs. This can cause a major
safety concern for residents and drivers. Children and teens can be affect largely by this due to the
school bus dropping them off at the entrance of the neighborhood. Also, as this being unsafe for
residents this is also an unsafe condition for others such as, the families of residents, maintenance
workers, delivery drivers, etc. However,

Planning for Pedestrianization of Charminar Precincts
Planning for Pedestrianization of Charminar Precincts
Background:
Pedestrian spaces are becoming increasingly rare now–a–days. The increase in the vehicular
movement has moved the pedestrian into subways and over bridges. In most of the cities, a
pedestrian is not taken into consideration while planning and design of traffic and transportation
systems with the importance imparted to vehicular modes of travel.
It is frequently overlooked that almost every person is a pedestrian at some or the other point of
time. So serious thought should be given to various issues relevant to pedestrian safety, convenience
and amenities.
Pedestrian spaces have a long history, most of the olden towns in India, display a great respect
towards the pedestrians. The obvious reason for this is that, walking was the only and the most used
mode of transport.
Now–a–days, due to the bombastic growth of human population as well as vehicular population,
these older towns experience a huge problem related to traffic issues. As these towns were formed
with main intention of serving pedestrians, it raises a concern when it has to serve vehicles.
Providing accessibility to the transport network for all members of a community is vitally important.
For most members of the community severed from easy accessibility i.e. the very young, old, or
mobility impaired, walking provides the first, last and often the only mode of transport. Other

Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street Corridor Improvement
Faculty of Technology and Built Environment
Introduction
We were asked by our Highway engineering lecturer to write a report about a current or previous
project listed on the Auckland transport site. After a research on the site, I have chosen to write
about Tiverton road Wolverton street corridor improvement.
Tiverton road and Wolverton Street, play a major role in linking the suburbs of New Lynn and New
Windsor. The 2.2km stretch of road carries an average of 31400 vehicles per day. And a two lane
addition was required to allow for the ease of travel and safer environment for both motorist and
pedestrian users. The project has been given less than 2 years to be completed starting in 2014.
Background
Back in 1920's, the work had started in developing an arterial road that helped link west Auckland
with its central suburbs. The 2.2km stretch of road added great commercial and residential benefits
in linking and intersecting with major roads in the area.
On September 2012, the road works started after a site blessing held by local iwi Ngāti Whātua
Ōrākei and Ngaitai–ki–tamaki in conjunction with Auckland Transport and Downer NZ.
Problem statement
With the increased traffic flow caused by the popularity of the road and the current motorway
extension to Maioro Street, the road required widening to lower traffic jams during rush hours.
Moreover, with the increase of residents in the area, the street required safer and better utilities such
as safer footpaths,

 For last four year, We are known about traffic congestion at Janta crossing which is at Vidhya
nagar to GIDC road and NH–48 (ANAND– SOJITRA HIGH WAY, which connect to SAURASTA).
 Reason behind it have many key features are there which are
1) Tirupati HP petrol pump
2) SBI bank (branch of GIDC)
3) ELECON group
4) Vegetable market
5) GIDC main entry road
6) AMAR Maruti car show room and service station
7) CNG gas station

9) Vidhyanagar railway station Therefore, Traffic problems occur at this junction. During peak hours
many times traffic conjunction problem occurs. It has being observed that time is getting wasted and
people don't reach on time to their destination to solve this problem we have selected this project.
Which cause many flow of vehicles in different direction at once.
 Traffic congestion is no fun for anyone, but it's deadly for public transport. When buses and trams
are stuck in traffic jams they fall behind schedule and, because this means that more people will be

compounding delays. Bunched buses and delays make public transport unattractive for customers
and increase operational costs, so congestion impacts on public transport must be eliminated
whenever possible.
 Traffic Data Collection and projections thereof of traffic volumes are basic requirements for
planning of road development and management schemes.
 Traffic Data forms an

Taking His Firearm As Well
He inched his way over to the second guard and bent down, taking his firearm as well. After he
stood back up, he let two more rounds go in the ceiling as he yelled for everyone to be quiet and stay
down. He took a deep breath and swallowed hard as the hair on the back of his neck began to stand
up. If he made one false move, one mistake could ruin this entire mission so he had to be careful,
keep his eyes open, and be quick. He ran up to the counter, yelling for the bank tellers to get on the
ground as he pointing the barrel at one of them, instructing her to get up and give him $10,000. She
seemed reluctant when she looked around at the other tellers who were cowering in fear so he let
another round go at the ceiling and pointed the barrel back down at her, yelling that she had better
hurry up because he was getting tired of shooting the ceiling. The teller got up, walked over to the
safe, and opened it as tears began to stream down her cheeks. A blinking number popped up on the
screen, started at one, and began to climb as the blond haired woman began putting money in a bag.
The number stopped at $7,000 and Osiris yelled at the teller, telling her that he hoped she didn't
think he wouldn't shoot her and she gasped as she began putting more money in the bag. Osiris
turned around, looking at the door as he began to hear police sirens then turned back to her, telling
her to move faster. After a couple of more handfuls of cash, the number hit $10,000 and the teller

Electrical Traffic Light Signal Timing

  • 1. Electrical Traffic Light Signal Timing 2.10 Traffic Signal Timing Consider a four–way intersection with one main street and a crossing side street, as shown in Figure 2.15. The main street is assumed to be busy in comparison to the side street. The figure also shows a state diagram of traffic signals for this intersection– one on the main street and the other on the side street. Note that for a single traffic light only one color is displayed at a time. The logical progression between states can be seen in the figure. In State 1, the main street signal is Green and the side street signal is Red. This state persists for at least the minimum green time (e.g. 30 seconds) or as long as there is no vehicle waiting on the side street, assuming vehicle detection capability. But, if there is a vehicle waiting in the side street and the minimum green time has passed, the waiting vehicle should get a chance to pass the intersection. Therefore, in the next state, i.e., State 2, other vehicles in the main street are warned about the changing light. This transition should last for a few seconds (e.g. 4 seconds). Now, every vehicle on the main street has been warned about the changing light. So, in State 3, the main street signal turns Red and the side street signal turns Green, which allows the vehicle waiting in the side street to pass the intersection. This transition is going to last at least for another minimum green time period or as long as vehicles are detected in the side street, but not larger than "Max Green" time. ... • 3. Communication Of Vehicles And Vehicle To Infrastructure... INTRODUCTION: The evolution of wireless technologies in modern days helps to utilize these kind of technology in many applications like vehicle safety application, a wireless data communication between the vehicles and also between the vehicles and other infrastructure. The objectives of vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communications are to avoid the vehicle crashes, to examine the technological issues that may affect this short range communications, characterise the communication needs of particular vehicle security applications, to monitor the vehicles that breaches the law etc. according to the reports in coming 30 years there will be a 60 percent increase in traffic on the freeways people spending lot of time and cost for gasoline and other things due to the traffic jams. vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to other infrastructure can help in avoiding this. my project focus on the communication of vehicles with each other and with traffic lights and other infrastructure understanding the purpose of saving time by reducing the travelling time and also to avoid the vehicle crash. DESIGN and APPLICATIONS: An inbuilt chip is provide to each vehicle that updates itself every second. the chip contain a storage component that can store the information received within certain time, sensor, GPS and computing element. • 5. The Effect Of Traffic On Major Cities By Running A Few... Traffic Lab ITEC 201 In this lab we will examine the impact of traffic on major cities by running a few test simulations as well as examining data on the topic. Please answer the following questions in detail. 1. What are some major challenges you feel cities face when dealing with and handling large amounts of traffic? What could be some potential solutions that could minimize some traffic congestion? When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake throughout the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car drivers, but it may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well. On city roads, traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because drivers may become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks. Also, the running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential solution are to build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation services such as the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one road. Also, cities may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Problem Of Traffic Lights The idea for traffic lights began in the mid–1800s when a system was essential to sustain the amassed flow of horse–drawn traffic flow. By 1868, a signal was put in by the intersection of George St and Bridge St, which is close to the Parliament. The installment provided pedestrians a safe crossing, and an answer to officials that need to sustain traffic. The semaphore involves a signal of a tall post with movable arm. When the arm is aligned sideways, it mean stop. After dark, a gas lamp was lit at the top. The green lenses means to go, and red means stop. Originally, the signal is controlled by hand, and the officers decided when the signal to be changed according to traffic flow. They would also whistle to remind drivers, when the signal will change. However, this method turned out to be hazardous. In 1869, a leak in one of the gas lines led to a traffic signal explosion. The incident severely wounding the policeman operating it, and led to the semaphore project to be terminated in London. In America, the semaphore were be rolled out to public because there were more motorists travelling on the road. However, many problems arose due to officers finding it to be difficult to sustain the traffic congestion. Some cities started to install traffic towers, which allowed officers to have a clearer view to monitor the traffic in an elevated platform. In the early 1900s, the automobiles just gain popularity throughout the world and traffic becomes busier results. Car were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Church Street Case Study The system under study was the intersection of Church street and Gould street as seen in Figure 1. This intersection was known for producing high volumes of pedestrian traffic particularly across Church street. This was because Church street is a major road in Downtown Toronto and has a decent flow of vehicles moving through. To simplify our data collection, we assumed all vehicles and pedestrians in the intersection were law–abiding. Therefore, vehicles and pedestrians were not allowed to cross if they were subject to a red light and were only allowed to cross if the light turned green. When subject to a red light, vehicles and pedestrians formed a queue in their respective lanes and waited until they were served (when the light changed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To accomplish such a problem, one must know the average capacity that can fit on Church street. Therefore, using google maps software, the included scale within the program, the destination length between Gould Street and Dundas could be found, and lastly the average length of a standard sedan could be found on the internet. These are required to give a rough estimation to how many cares may build up within the queue waiting to be served by the green light. This value was calculated to be 35 cars as a maximum capacity the system can hold/adjust to. Given that a car is relatively 4.8 m long, including a meter of space between each car (5.8 m from front to back), acting as a buffer space, this means that not every car is bumper to bumper, there is space between each car acting as a buffer in order to stop and go safely. This amounts to an average of 35 cars in the queue can be waiting in order for the light to be green. Thus, begs the question, will all the cars in that large queue leave? Most likely not, therefore our probabilities that the system is at the end state (state 32), would be close to zero based on calculations and common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Why Are Railroad Crossing Important Railroad crossing is very important. It is always important to be aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you. If you are at a train stop, you also need to be aware of what is going on around you. You can never be too safe at a train stop and railroad crossing. Also you should never walk on train tracks or cross between two different carts. The train could start moving and then you wouldn't be able to go back. As I stated earlier, the understanding of railroad crossings and train tracks are very important. ` When you are approaching a railroad, you always need to slow down. You need to slow down because anything could happen. The railroad crossing gates could signal an oncoming train at anytime. If you have headphones in, hood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Put the distractions down and focus on what is important. It is never worst risking your life for a text or your favorite song. When you stop at a railroad crossing you must be between 15–20 feet from the nearest rail. You may not drive through, around, or under any crossing gate or barrier at a railroad crossing while they are down or being opened or closed. You should always look both ways when you are at a railroad crossing. If you look one way only, you might not see something coming the other way. In the video "Utah Transit Authority Operation Lifesaver" it explains that you always look both ways and even the other way again. Something could come around the corner when you weren't looking and surprise you. Walking on train track is also trespassing. you can get a big fine for being on them. when you cross over between two carts, you are also trespassing. If you are crossing between two carts, the train could start moving at anytime. If you get stuck or you don't cross fast enough, the train would go with you on it. You could and would get extremely injured. A shortcut or faster way to get somewhere, is never worth your life. Even if you are late for something, do not break the ... • 13. A Push for Safer Crosswalks for RACC Students and Faculty... In this modern day and age many drivers and pedestrians alike become easily distracted by: cell phones, I–Pods, navigation systems, as well as many other distractions. These distractions can make it quite dangerous to even cross the street. It is quite shocking how worn and faded some of the crosswalks at RACC have become. Even without the distractions the crosswalks are rather difficult to see and be able to stop if a pedestrian steps into it. The crosswalks at RACC connect the main campus with the parking lots, as well as other buildings, and classes just off campus. Having a student population of almost 5,000 undergraduate students in addition to its full faculty and staff, a large majority of these people have no choice but to park ... A crosswalk is generally designed to provide a safe path for pedestrians to cross by marking the designated path that people can cross and in which motorist should be able to see. "Should" is the keyword, because as the paint fades, chips, and wears from traffic; the path becomes harder for motorist to see. The consequence of this is a driver will be less aware that someone may step into the road trying to cross at these points. Laws and legislation are beginning to crack down on these drivers but the roads are still a dangerous place for a person to be. There are a multitude of options to increase the safety at cross walks. "A pilot program in Virginia, which is based off of similarly designed programs oversea, uses zigzagged lines painted on the road at dangerous crossings"( Woodward, 2009). The idea is that the lines will draw a motorist's attention to the road, the upcoming crosswalk, and they become aware of the potential for pedestrians to be crossing. Personal Narrative: A Road Trip Write a narrative about 3 people who are on a road trip only to stop off at a gas station and pick up a fourth whom they don't know It was a foggy afternoon in gorge town with a small population of 100 people. It was chilly day and everyone outside was in big puffy coats and the streets had little amount of cars with dim headlights on. There was a small amount of white dust on the ground from the light snow the night before. The crisp air hits my hand as I hold my little sister ally's hand whom has a much smaller hand since she's only 6. A smaller child with long blonde hair. Not only because ally had to pee but we badly needed gas now otherwise we would never make it to Freeport. As we ease into the gas station on the slick abandoned road I pull up to one of there two gas pumps. It seemed as though no one has ever been here I look over at David and as to bring ally in to the bathrooms wile I pay. He agrees and I feel as though me and David are booth a little creeped out on how abandoned this gas station is. Grabbing my black leather purse out of back seat I put it in my lap. Digging though pens, makeup, papers, etc I can't find my brown and pink wallet. Getting worried and stressed about the possibilities of I don't find my wallet I try and calm down. I run into the gas station as I see ally's already in the I see David standing by a door with a dim light over the door. I open the clear dirty door as i makes a ginormous creek noise. When I first walk in there's one guy at the counter seems to be in his 40s and smokes. This man really fits his job by him looking one minute away from death. Standing in front of David I ask if he has any money on him he shakes his head wile apologizing. I had to think of something to do so I went up to the man with no joy telling him my situation. The man nods and replays " I will give you a full tank of gas... if you bring me with you" as I have to honestly consider it I knew it wasn't right but it was the only choice I had so I agreed I was very unsure the plans for when we got there but I desperately needed gas. But now, as an international student who went to study abroad in New Zealand, I have seen many differences between Indonesia and New Zealand, especially for the customs. The customs between both countries are totally different. Something that I have encountered in New Zealand, not necessarily I found it in Indonesia, and vice versa. If we look from the land area and population in both countries, it is clearly different. The food and the way in which Indonesian eat is also different from New Zealander. Moreover, New Zealander also has more self– awareness while they are driving compared to Indonesian. There are many differences between both countries. Car accidents have many causes such as running red lights, drinking and driving, speeding, use of mobiles, lack of sleep and vigilance while preforming the task of driving. These actions caused numerus deaths of the drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. Which is also why the leading cause of death in children is car accidents. Problem The problem at its core of car accidents is the overcrowding of the roads; which is not only a social issue but a financial issues due to the huge costs that are placed on the public and the government in order to cover an accident; while cost is a term that is more than often used to discuss money, in this instance it will also be used to not only describe money but also monetary gain through an occupation. However, the recent enforcement of this law is causing traffic problems citywide. Traffic tends to come to a screeching halt without any warning. I was driving North on Nevada Street in Spokane, three of four lanes of traffic had stopped to allow a man and a young child to cross the street, the fourth lane of traffic had not stopped. Finally a car in that fourth lane of traffic stopped, causing the car behind it to slam on the brakes, literally coming to a screeching halt. The Whitworthian, the campus newspaper, reported Sophomore Meagan Schwartz slowed her car down when she saw a man step into the road at the crosswalk. Akindele ETEC 562 Social Technology and the Sociocultural Aspects of Learning 2016/10/03 Dr. Giuliana Cucinelli Street Traffic, Safety, and Accidents Roads are the backbone and essential modes of transportation, providing many different supports for human civilization. Among the early and inexpensive technologies available for developing comprehensive traffic, management proposals are Road capacity, traffic sign (i.e. pavement markings, road sign, etc.), Guard rails, cross marking etc traffic calming, vehicle parking regulations and controls, pedestrian measures, accident reduction programs, Bus priority measures. As technology evolved, application of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced. (Olaogbebikan J. E et al. 2013). Street lighting also improves safety for drivers, riders, and pedestrians. They concluded that on average the presence of street lighting reduces the severity of injuries by a factor of 3. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated, and 'smarter ' use of transport networks. This problems needs to be resolved through development of a road system that would tackle challenges imposed by the population. Auckland Transport manages road projects in the city. One of the projects in Auckland city that is underway by Auckland Transport (AT) is the upgrade of Dominion Road project. AT inherited this project from the Auckland city council, which had earlier undertaken public consultation for a proposed upgrade to Dominion Road. Key concerns from the earlier consultation undertaken by the Auckland City Council included loss of on–street parking, and concerns that use of bus lanes by other vehicles would create four–lane highway. AT in its design includes the concerns raised and has engaged both the public, including the potentially affected residents, and other key stakeholders from the government and the private sector. • 31. Sociological Perspective Coming from AJP, I needed to cross Fifth Avenue to start my walk, and like what I had to do every day when I had class at that building, I found myself once again waiting for the walk sign to appear across the street. This Sociological Perspective of seeing society in our everyday lives showed how the smallest personal choices, even the action of walking, is affected and shaped by society and how it functions. As I was walking through Fifth Avenue, I noticed that there were buildings at every corner of this long street. Students, some wearing Carlow gear while others wore Pitt gear, populated the sidewalks, conversing with other students. As I got farther into Fifth Avenue, I could see UPMC hospitals and signs with directions of entrances and parking lots. People populated the end of the sidewalk in this street, waiting at the Bus Stop sign. In the area of Forbes Avenue, there were a lot of restaurants, and I noticed many students walking to get in and eat. The pedestrian traffic was very similar to the automobile traffic on the street. Through the Sociological Perspective of seeing the general in the particular, I was able to identify the general patterns of the group of pedestrians walking on the sides, including myself. There is a systematic way in society that traffic runs, and as I was walking, I, along with the rest of the pedestrians near me, looked both ways of the street before crossing at the end of the streets at Forbes. Once a driver gets on their phone, they also may decrease in speed because they are not focusing on the speedometer, which could lead to other drivers becoming agitated. Then the other drivers may exhibit road rage which could become dangerous to others on the road. A driver's focus should always remain on the road. If one is on their phone they cannot see or hear what is happening around them. A driver being on the phone while driving is one of the biggest distractions drivers today face. Lastly, cell phone use while driving should be banned because it can become dangerous for oneself as well as others on the road. Not only does cell phone use for drivers endanger other people, it endangers the life of the operator itself. Drivers can run off the road into trees, ditches, or poles; they may also run into other cars or drift into oncoming traffic. Using a cell phone while driving also puts other drivers on the road in danger; if a driver is texting, their eyes are on their phone and they may not see the car in front of them stopping, which will lead into a wreck that could injury someone. I believe all states should ban all use on cell phones while driving. I feel by doing this, drivers may stay safer. There are already laws in some states prohibiting the use of phones. • 46. Identify The Different Types Of Drivers Essay When traversing highways and interstates, people run into many different types of drivers. Those operating vehicles all fall into a certain category. Drivers, though more than likely not self–aware, have a very specific way of driving that allows them to fall into such a category; however, drivers typically do not have a problem calling out other drivers on their faults. It would almost seem that a long trip or even a quick run anywhere is really just a never ending sequence of blaring horns and screeching halts in contempt for drivers outside of one's own classification. Vehicle operators will either drive carelessly, dangerously, or carefully. Drivers can be classified into three categories: The DJ, Daredevils, and Goody Two–Shoes. The first type of driver falls into the careless category, also known as the DJ. DJs tend to blare music at deafening decibels. To maximize their disturbance, DJs also typically drive with all windows rolled down including the sunroof. If the cars immediately surrounding them are not shaking along to the beat DJs are unsatisfied. DJs are also really good at multitasking. Rather than their main focus being on the road or the surroundings, DJs' attention is on whatever handheld device they're selecting music from. Most of the time they come out alive. • 48. A Brief Note On The Capital Of Lebanon One of the main factors for a neighborhood to be effective and successful is to have a well–planned transportation system that would let people move from one place to another not only using automobile vehicles, but also through walking. However, nowadays, with the increased interests of architects and planners on enlarging the roads and fighting traffic problems in cities, walkable environments are being ignored threatening the pedestrian experience in streets and sidewalks. But not all pedestrians can manage to overcome the challenges of the bad street experience. People on wheel chair, kids and older adults are another type of pedestrians that are being forced to stay home and drop out of the social life for they are considered to be the weak and dependent kind of people. Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is one of the Lebanese cities that are facing a significant decline in pedestrian access due to the lack of walkability in its infrastructure. Its streets are losing their engaging and comfortable spaces, and are becoming a simple reflection of cars, noise and pollution, with no public life. With the recognition of the health benefits of walking, the case for creating better walking environments has to be stronger and should become an important factor in the design of transportation systems. So what are the different problems that discourage dependent people from walking in Beirut? How can lack of walkability decline the health of older adults? And to what extent can ... • 50. Utilization Rates of Pedestrian Bridges in Kuala Lumpur Introduction Traffic congestion and air pollution are becoming growing problems in many cities in Malaysia. In order to discourage automobile dependency, and increase pedestrian activities particularly for short trips, the government has begun to promote non–motorized travel options by improving pedestrian facilities that promote an assured level of convenience, comfort, and security for potential users. One of the facilities that have been provided by the government is the pedestrian bridge. A pedestrian bridge or footbridge is a bridge constructed for pedestrians and sometimes for cyclists and bikers as well. It reduces the conflicts of traffic flow between the pedestrians and the vehicles by separating them. Hence, it helps in overcoming accidents and offers safety. However, due to the added travel distance, most of the pedestrians normally avoid using these bridges. This in turn, adds to traffic congestion and accidents that involve pedestrians. For the purposes of this research evaluation, the site selections are around the city of Kuala Lumpur.¬¬ Background to the Study Pedestrian bridges may offer safety and protection to the users but pedestrians often avoid using these facilities. According to the survey that has been conducted by H. Rizati, Siti Zaharah Ishak, Intan Rohani Endut (2013), this is due to several factors. They are the added travel distance, the location of the facility, and the vehicle volume. Pedestrians prefer to utilize pedestrian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Why Is It Important to Follow Directions? Essay I think it is important to follow directions because if people didn't follow directions we would have a lot of CHAOS in our world!!! The reason why we would have chaos is because kids would do drugs, have kids at REALLY young ages and there would probably be more homeless people. I think it is important to follow directions because for instance you could be walking across the street (say there's no speed limit, red lights/stop signs or anything like that) you would obviously get hit by a car and most likely end up in the hospital or be dead on the spot. That's why there are traffic rules that should be followed. Another reason following rules is important is if there were to be a man with a weapon at school. If a little kid didn't pay ... In school, if you don't listen to your teacher, you can be embarrassed in front of the class, have to do extra work (like this essay), lose class points, or even get kicked out of the class. You will also not get good grades because you wouldn't be paying attention to learn anything. You could also distract other kids around you that want to learn. Another important thing is organization so you don't lose things and keep important things in the places that they belong. I've learned that the hard way! I have spent a lot of time doing homework assignments, then misplaced them and was unable to turn them in. I also didn't get 100% on my science binder since I couldn't find some of my assignments and notes. I had a good talk with Mrs. Merolo and Fray about being organized. Mrs. Merolo helped me by giving me a folder where I could put my homework "to do" on one side and things to "turn in" on the other side. Fray taught me how to organize my assignments, quizzes, tests, bell work and notes in my binder, which has helped me to find my things when I need to study for quizzes and tests. I think I will be able to get better grades after this. Following rules also means following what it says on a sign. If you have been wondering about the state of your driveway, look no further. Here are three telltale signs that your asphalt driveway needs repaving: 1. It Has Cracks and Potholes A single, small, crack is nothing of concern. It can usually be fixed with a patch kit and a new coating of sealant. History of Arduino Arduino, a relatively new prototyping platform, has gained great popularity all over the world in less than a decade, over 700,000 official boards had been manufactured by 2013 [1], not to mention the amount of unofficial clone boards which is very likely to surpass the official ones [2]. In this paper, the basic concepts about Arduino, the underlying principles are shown briefly, also the reasons that it's so prevalent among both industrial and individual user groups, as well as some of the common applications of it. It's in 2002 that Banzi Massimo, a software architect, was hired by IDII (Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, a graduate school based in Ivrea, Italy) as an associate professor to promote novel means of doing interactive design, which is also referred as physical computing. But with limited class time and reduced budget Banzi can't do much, like others he had to rely on a microcontroller called BASIC Stamp which is developed by a California company Parrallax. Banzi found that board has inadequate computing capability for some projects and a little bit high–priced (around US$100), also it can't run on Mac system which is widely used among IDII designers. It's since then that he started to think about making a board himself that doesn't have these problems. Then in 2004, one of Banzi's students Hernando Barragan developed a new prototyping platform called Wiring when writing his thesis, it consisted of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Persuasive Essay On Crosswalks Summary Since moving into the neighborhood about seven months ago, there are a lot of activities for the residents to partake in. The neighborhood has eleven playgrounds, (some which are for younger children considered tot lots), four basketball courts, a pool, a recreational center, and mailboxes at the end of each resident's street. Seems like a lot of places you are able to walk, right? One thing missing in the neighborhood is crosswalks leading to each of these different places and more. What I am proposing is to have cross walks put up throughout the neighborhood so residents are safe when crossing the road. Problem A large circle is the main road for the neighborhood and has eight connecting streets leading to where the resident's houses are located. Families each day walk around the neighborhood to different activities such as the playgrounds, basketball courts, the pool, and other activities. The problem is when residents have to walk to different places there are no safe places to cross the road. Currently there are no painted crosswalks or even pedestrian crossing signs. This can cause a major safety concern for residents and drivers. Children and teens can be affect largely by this due to the school bus dropping them off at the entrance of the neighborhood. Also, as this being unsafe for residents this is also an unsafe condition for others such as, the families of residents, maintenance workers, delivery drivers, etc. However, ... • 70. Planning for Pedestrianization of Charminar Precincts Planning for Pedestrianization of Charminar Precincts Background: Pedestrian spaces are becoming increasingly rare now–a–days. The increase in the vehicular movement has moved the pedestrian into subways and over bridges. In most of the cities, a pedestrian is not taken into consideration while planning and design of traffic and transportation systems with the importance imparted to vehicular modes of travel. It is frequently overlooked that almost every person is a pedestrian at some or the other point of time. So serious thought should be given to various issues relevant to pedestrian safety, convenience and amenities. Pedestrian spaces have a long history, most of the olden towns in India, display a great respect towards the pedestrians. The obvious reason for this is that, walking was the only and the most used mode of transport. Now–a–days, due to the bombastic growth of human population as well as vehicular population, these older towns experience a huge problem related to traffic issues. As these towns were formed with main intention of serving pedestrians, it raises a concern when it has to serve vehicles. Providing accessibility to the transport network for all members of a community is vitally important. For most members of the community severed from easy accessibility i.e. the very young, old, or mobility impaired, walking provides the first, last and often the only mode of transport. Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street Corridor Improvement Faculty of Technology and Built Environment Introduction We were asked by our Highway engineering lecturer to write a report about a current or previous project listed on the Auckland transport site. After a research on the site, I have chosen to write about Tiverton road Wolverton street corridor improvement. Tiverton road and Wolverton Street, play a major role in linking the suburbs of New Lynn and New Windsor. The 2.2km stretch of road carries an average of 31400 vehicles per day. And a two lane addition was required to allow for the ease of travel and safer environment for both motorist and pedestrian users. The project has been given less than 2 years to be completed starting in 2014. Background Back in 1920's, the work had started in developing an arterial road that helped link west Auckland with its central suburbs. The 2.2km stretch of road added great commercial and residential benefits in linking and intersecting with major roads in the area. On September 2012, the road works started after a site blessing held by local iwi Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Ngaitai–ki–tamaki in conjunction with Auckland Transport and Downer NZ. Problem statement With the increased traffic flow caused by the popularity of the road and the current motorway extension to Maioro Street, the road required widening to lower traffic jams during rush hours. Moreover, with the increase of residents in the area, the street required safer and better utilities such as safer footpaths, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has being observed that time is getting wasted and people don't reach on time to their destination to solve this problem we have selected this project. Which cause many flow of vehicles in different direction at once.  Traffic congestion is no fun for anyone, but it's deadly for public transport. When buses and trams are stuck in traffic jams they fall behind schedule and, because this means that more people will be waiting at the next stops, they fall even further behind schedule leading to bunching and compounding delays. Bunched buses and delays make public transport unattractive for customers and increase operational costs, so congestion impacts on public transport must be eliminated whenever possible.  Traffic Data Collection and projections thereof of traffic volumes are basic requirements for planning of road development and management schemes.  Traffic Data forms an ...
