Assignment 2 Cronbach Alphas Essay
Assignment 2– Cronbach Alphas (Reliability), Analyzing Compiled Parental Data
Upload your output, syntax/note file, and write–up to Canvas. Be sure that your syntax files contains
notes for what and why you are commanding certain things. Not including all documentation or
uploading you file appropriately by the due date will severely affect your grade, up to and including
receiving a zero (0) for the assignment.
For this assignment, you will be using the Parental Data that you compiled during class as well as the
GSS Assignment Data, which is on Canvas under your Homework 1 module.
Step 1: Analyzing Compiled Parental Data
Open the parental data that you compiled during this class – if you weren't in class on this day, you will
be unable to do this portion of the assignment, which is one of the consequences of not attending class
(see syllabus page 5). Complete the following.
(1) Command and print descriptive statistics and frequency distributions of the variables that identify
the respondents' (R) answers to Q2 (balancing job and family), Q3 (sacrificing job for family), and Q9
(interview coded R's sex). Be sure that you set your options so that your output files contain the

What do these variables represent (i.e., what information/question is being asked and answered for each
variable)? In order to provide a complete and appropriate answer to this question, you will need to look
at the variable labels and values (response options) in the SPSS file and the GSS codebook for
additional information (i.e., what missing categories are available for coding, what year(s) was/were
these questions asked). {Remember: Just because I am not asking you for descriptives and frequency

Global Economy And Economic Variables
1 COURSE PROJECT MG631 – GLOBAL ECONOMY How Global Economy and Economic
Variables are affecting Global Operations of Apple Corporation 2 Executive Summary The
macroeconomic discussi ons that Apple 's success tends to be very curious things. Here we have a
company that 's been phenomenally successful, making products people love s and directly creating
nearly 50,000 American jobs in doing so, criticised for not locating its manufa cturing operations in
America, eve n as Americans complain about the working conditions of those doing the manufacture
abroad: life in dormitories, 12 – hour sh ifts 6 days a week, and low pay . The utility of Apple, however,
is that it does provide a framewo rk within which we can discuss the significant changes that have
occurred across the global economy in recent decades. Apple 's products are assembled in massive
factory complexes in China, run by Foxxconn, which also handles the production of consumer elec
tronics for many other large players in the industry. The success of Apple Corp can be traced to majorly
to some of the economic conditions discussed in this report. In section 1, Apple was able to minimize
labour cost in it production by setting up assembly plants in parts of Asia where labour are cheaper
compare to the US. In section 2, economic of scale was discussed as the cost advantages exploited by
expanding the scale of production in the long run. The effec t of this is to reduce long run average costs

6. What was the marital status mode for the subjects in the experimental and control groups? Provide
both the frequency and percentage for the marital status mode for both groups.
The mode for both the experimental and control groups is married with 25 and 78.1% of the
experimental group being married and 31 and 86.1% of the control group being married. 7. Could a
median be determined for the education data? If so, what would the median be for education for the
experimental and the control groups? Provide a rationale for your answer.
For the education data, I must say to calculate the median, from high school to college graduate, the
median would be the some college portion since it would be the middle. The median for the
experimental group would be 11 and 34.4% and for the control group it would be 15 and 41.7%. 8. Can
the findings from this study be generalized to Black women? Provide a rationale for your answer.
No, because the mode in this study shows to be White women. There is only 1 Black woman in the
experimental group and none in the control group, therefore statistically, it could not be generalized to
Black women. 9. If there were 32 subjects in the experimental group and 36 subjects in the control

Finding Accurate Causal Affects Of A National Supported Work
Paul Doxsee Econ 104 Finding Accurate Causal Affects Abstract An analysis was performed to see if
the effect of a National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was effective in increasing the
earnings of a group of individuals. The analysis showed that, on average, those treated earned roughly
$800 more than their counterparts three years later. Because of the randomization method used when
selecting the participants, we can be confident that this estimate is causal. This randomization removes
all biases from omitted variables as well as any selection bias, because the groups were systematically
alike as shown in the analysis. Another analysis was performed using data from both the NSW study as
well as the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). This analysis showed that using non–
experimental data creates biased results because the two groups are not comparable. Furthermore, even
the use of regressions in an attempt to correct this bias will not be successful and will still not result in
causal results. Introduction The National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was an
experiment that took individuals with long–term employment problems and randomly assigned them to
either receive or not receive a job training program. The goal of this program was to show that these
job training programs work, in that they help people get better, higher paying jobs. The results of the
study supported that. They showed that on average the earnings of the treated group after

How Do Video Games Affect Body Image
Results
The hypothesis or H1 stated that people who have higher levels of exposure to video games have a
more negative view of their own body. A correlation test conducted to test the relationship between two
continuous variables. There was no significant relationship found between the independent variable
which was the level of exposure to video game and the dependent variable being the view of their own
body. The equation for this research result is r(260) =–.03, p=.62. The lower–case r stands for the type
of test that was run which was a correlation. While the number 260 stands for the degree of freedom in
the equation. There were some minor affects shown through this testing, but not enough to prove the
hypothesis to be true.

Barlett and Harris (2008) also did a test on woman and how video games affected their body image.
The results showed for this part of the study that "playing a video game that emphasized the ideal
female body would cause negative body–images in female participants" (Barlett & Harris, 2008). So, in
both of their studies there were signs that showed decreases in men's and women's view of their own
body while playing video games. A study was done by McCab, Butler, and Watt (2007) which was on
how media changes the attitudes of men and woman view on body image. Their findings in their study
showed that "the results demonstrated that women generally overestimated their actual body size"
(McCab, Butler, & Watt, 2007). The women over estimated what their body sizes were because of their
attitude towards their body image. There were different styles used to determine the different
perceptions of the different body images. Men, when asked how they felt about their body images,
determined that they "overestimated all parts of their bodies except their hips" ( McCab, Butler, &
Watt, 2007). It was shown that both men and women over estimate their body size because of how
media perceive what they should look like in

From both points of view this puts additional burden on the next generation who has to return this
borrowed money in the future period of time. This is against the principal of sustainable development.
So for sustained development–developing today's world without compromising the needs of the future
generations' government to gradually remove this subsidy to decrease allocative and productive
inefficiency. 2. Introduction
Economics is the managnment of scarce resources. We live in the world of scarcity and. Where from
basic necessity to luxury even the human being is a scarce commodity. So in order to uncertainity use
at the optimum level, we have to use the scarce resources as efficient as possible. Crude oil is a scarce
commodity in the world. Its Elasticity of demand and supply both are less elastic.Because of demand
and supply factors and also because of other intervening variables like cartel, hoarding, supply shocks
etc., day by day prices are increasing and causing demand pull as well as cost push inflation.
In a country like Pakistan international price hike not only causes imported cost push inflation but also
demand pull inflation. Actually Compressed Natural Gas CNG and Liquified Petrolium Gas LPG are
very poor susbtitutes of petrol. So as international price increases, this leads to lacal inflation in the
economy, leading to fall in the foreign exchange reserves as foreign currency becomes short

Economic Variables For Fedex
Expanding globally is a major decision that requires a lot of a company. Before deciding to expand into
a global market, the management team should first ensure that the company is ready for the move. It is
very important that the company has the financial managers to identify and review the economic
variables that are associated with the targeted company. Economic variables are used by many analyses
to help identify the health and strength of a selected country's economy. In this assignment, I will
discuss the important economic variables that financial managers of FedEx Corporation need to
identify before expanding in Canada. The economic variables that I will be discussing are inflation rate,
interest rate, consumer price index (CPI), unemployment rate, and exchange rate. The first economic
indicator that I will be discuss is the inflation rate. The rate that price of products and services steadily
increases is the inflation rate. The reason that the financial managers of FedEx should be aware of the
inflation rate of Canada is the fact that higher inflation rates has an impact on the buying power of the
consumers. As the prices of products are increased due to inflation, consumers may become more
reluctant to spend their money. Also, the company may become victim of the inflation rate directly.
FedEx may see an increase in expenses if they company decides to purchase products locally and in
utility bills. The second economic variable that I will be discuss is the

Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence And...
Introduction
In a study by Mandell and Pherwani (2003), the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and
transformational leadership style was examined in order to determine whether EI scores could be used
to predict transformational leadership style. In addition, gender differences in the relationship between
EI and transformational leadership were examined to determine if there is a significant interaction of
gender and emotional intelligence. This research is important, because transformational leadership has
been found to be the most effective style of leadership. Therefore, if EI can predict transformational
leadership style, it would be useful for organizations to use EI measures in their selection battery for
managerial positions and in development of current managers. In the study, transformational leadership
was defined as a leadership style that encourages subordinates to look at their work from different
viewpoints, motivates employees to promote the organization's mission, and develops employee
abilities. Emotional intelligence was defined as an ability that involves self–monitoring of one's own
feelings and emotions, as well as, monitoring the emotions of others in order to guide one's behaviors
and make decisions.
Consistent with the previous research, Mandell and Pherwani (2003) found that EI scores do
significantly predict transformational leadership style. However, they found no significant relationship
between gender and EI while predicting

Factors That Affect A Continuous Variable Of A Type II Error?
Often times as researchers, we will take continuous variables and break it up into categories, typically
for the purpose of grouping, or to measure an outcome measure. We usually decide on a reasonable
cut–point and place the data in the appropriate category. Streiner (2002) asserts that this categorization
results in lost information, reduced power of statistical tests, as well as an increased probability of a
Type II error. In Streiner (2002) article, written primarily for researchers, he states that the only
justified reasons for dichotomizing a continuous variable is when the distribution is highly skewed or
the data shows a non–linear relationship with another variable. Often in research, we will take outcome
data variable from something such as an anxiety or depression inventory, which uses a continuous
measure, and we dichotomize that outcome variable. Typically it is above or below a predetermined
cut–point and we do this to see if there was a reduction from previous baseline scores. Other examples
may be placing subjects in different groups or categories by dichotomizing or trichotomizing scores
from a continuous scale. Often the reasons for dichotomizing this data is to make the data easier to
understand when they are in proportion or odds ratios, and therefore making it easier to determine who
to treat and who not to treat. According to Streiner (2002) this can have severe ramifications in terms of
power or sample size when these continuous variables are

The Benefits Of The Disease Model Of Addiction
To begin, I would like to discuss the benefits of the disease model for addiction. To be fair, this model
resonates with me the most. As stated in the Historical Perspectives on Addiction, "By changing the
way we talk about addiction, we change the way people think about addiction, both of which are
critical steps in getting past the social stigma too often associated with this disease" (Freed, 2012,
p.27). I feel that this quote sums up the most significant benefit of the disease model. Not only does it
remove stigma, but by removing this stigma you could potentially have more individuals seeking
treatment. In addition to this, by removing stigma you move it from an individual's problem into a
public health issue. Therefore, if addiction is a public health issue you would see more services/support
systems available. A second benefit of the disease model is that there is evidence that supports the
theory (Hall,2017).
On the other hand, there are some negative aspects associated with this model. One criticism is the
disease model may "prevent them from developing self–control, and damages self–esteem (Frank,
2017, p.130). In my opinion, I do not agree with this statement because I believe that the disease model
gives more power to individuals. Although, I do agree that the disease model does not explain the
"Large–scale epidemiological studies show high percentages of spontaneous recovery, even without
specific treatment" (Frank, 2017, p.130). This lack of

The Effects Of Health Information Levels On Postpartum...
Title Evaluation The title of the journal article to be critically evaluated is Influence of health
information levels on postpartum depression. This title is not sufficiently specific because the variables
are not easily understood. What is meant by health information levels? The reader must examine the
article further to understand if this health information is provided, or does the article refer to the level
of health–related knowledge each participant already possessed from another source, such as their
career or education. Furthermore, the article doesn't state a population. It would be helpful to the reader
to know who is experiencing postpartum depression (PPD). For example, is the PPD experienced by
teenagers, first–time mothers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for the lengthiness was that the article provided quite a bit of information regarding the
methodology and results, which may have been presented later in the paper. For example, the title of
measure was described. Also, the writing style of the author is difficult to follow at times. Overall, the
abstract provided more information than necessary and may, therefore, overwhelm readers.
Specifically, those readers who are reviewing multiple research studies in order to decide which are
relevant for their particular interest or population.
Introduction and Literature Review Evaluation The introduction and literature review successfully
identifies the importance and prevalence of PPD. However, it moved from citation to citation. For
example, the following excerpt from the article, written by Youash, Sabrina, et al. (2013), states "It has
been well established that PPD can affect maternal–infant interactions (Beck 2001), and women with
PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn
compared to those without such condition (Pop et al. 1993)" (p. 489). It would increase readability to
combine citations. Thus the sentence would read, It has been well established that PPD can affect
maternal–infant interactions, and women with PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less
responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Beck

Economic Variables And Asset Returns Using Monte Carlo...
1. Introduction
Economic trends vary from time to time. No one ensures today's gain will lead to the consequence that
I will still profit tomorrow. Therefore, it is truly crucial to generate scenarios for various economic
variables and asset returns using Monte Carlo technique across multiple time periods. Moreover, many
economic variables such as equity returns, credit transitions and exchange rates are stochastic
processes. As a simple illustration for equity scenarios, we can use the basic Geometric Brownian
Motion, which is given by: , which is unpredictable 'random shocks'. In order to deal with the
randomness, Economic Scenario Generators produce the forward–looking situations for a specified set

2.2 Annuity valuation
When the policyholders retire, they can choose to buy an annuity from an insurance company using the
previous lump sum. The annuity will offer 20 annual payments paid at the end of each year. The
payment amounts depend on interest rate at retirement and can be formulated by solving: for the
unknown , where represents the lump sum and means the price of a zero coupon bond maturing at time
t as seen at time 15. Prove that if the interest rates at retirement are 6% per year, then the annual
payment are approximately £43,600, and then calculate the annual payments if the interest rates were to
fall to 1%.
Firstly, we can demonstrate using the given annual payment £43,600 to calculate the lump sum. The
lump sum is £500,088.5651 £500,000.
Next, we will use the £500,000 to calculate the value of X.
As known before, the lump sum is £500,000, which is the present value at time 15.
Using the annuity paid annually in arrears equation to find the accumulated value of all cash flows

Correlation Between Job Engagement, Education And Job...
Results
Correlations were performed (refer to appendix 1 and 2) and it was found that income and education
were significantly correlated as the countrywide data had a significance value of .003, r = .637, p <
.005 and the statewide data had a remarkable significance value of .000, r = .770, p < .005. Despite
these very strong correlations, no significant results were found for any of the other variables and more
importantly that support the predicted relationship between job engagement, education and job
satisfaction. However, no relationship was predicted between income and job satisfaction so this
prediction is supported by the data.
To further investigate the relationship between the variables regressions were conducted (refer to ...

However, when job engagement was accounted for both the variables become more insignificant.
The graph of the worldwide data (refer to Figure 1) highlights that as job satisfaction increases, so to
does income roughly, however, the data does deviate from this pattern slightly for some of the
countries. Job engagement also appears to follow a similar pattern, with less satisfied countries having
less job engagement, however, as engagement increases there seems to be less variation between
countries. Education does not seem to have any strong effects displayed in the graph as the data falls
and rises throughout the graph.
The relationship between the variables is less pronounced for the US (refer to Figure 2) as there does
not seem to be a strong relationship between any of the variables. Income and education follow a
similar trend to the countrywide data, both slightly increasing with job satisfaction. Job engagement
surprisingly appears to be decreasing with satisfaction for the US data as the values get slightly lower.
Job engagement and education also appear to interact, eventually converging to a similar point.
Discussion
It was hypothesized that job engagement and education would significantly influence job satisfaction
and that income would have

What And When Of Cognitive Aging Essay

Science, 13, 140–144. Please read the article (available on Bb) and complete the following reading
guide. Answer all questions in your own words.
1. Why is it important to study cognitive aging?
Its paramount to study cognitive aging because the term has been described for physical aging, but it is
still not well understood. The cognitive functions can affect a person's quality of life, and even the
ability to live independently. Cognitive aging in early adulthood may be cognate to the development of
pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease in later adulthood.
2. When do age–related differences begin to appear? When do age–related effects become apparent to
most adults?
When it comes to age–related differences it appears to begin during the early stage of adulthood when a
person is in their 20s. During age–related effects, its apparent before at the age of 50. For some
variables, there may be an acceleration of the influences at older ages, but age–related differences are
evident in early adulthood for each variable.
3. What does Figure 1 mean? Explain the findings that it is depicting. The significance for figure 1 are

Uncertainty Risk Trust And Information In Literature Review
The Article, "Uncertainty, Risk, Trust, and Information: Public Perceptions of Environmental Issues
and Willingness to Take Action" written by Reneé J. Johnson and Michael J. Scicchitano in its current
form is unfit for publication. Johnson and Scicchitano should be commended for identifying a gap in
our ability to accurately quantify the strength and intensity of environmental concerns. This gap is
certainly worthy of further study; however, their execution and attempt to quantify this phenomena
does not have the necessary wherewithal to close the gap in the literature as it stands. The problems
with their work begins almost immediately in the initial literature review. The literature review is
plagued by Ill–defined, or simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, the literature review suffers from an additional lack of clarity in the paragraph on the bottom of
page 634. Here, the authors begin to delve into the theory and rationalization behind including
uncertainty as an appropriate measure. The authors write, "Uncertainty can affect an individuals
willingness to act on environmental beliefs in several ways" signaling to the reader that a laundry list of
factors is to follow. However, they only make mention of one tangentially linked evidence based factor,
that an increase in the complexity of issues leads to increased uncertainty in the scientific community.
No further examples in support of uncertainty follow this one. Instead, the authors pivot towards
unfounded speculation about uncertainties role in individuals willingness to take environmental action,
and then they abruptly transition to their discussion of trust. The issue of uncertainty persists in the
manner with which the authors have chosen to operationalize their research question. When
operationalizing their research question the authors made several critical clerical errors that could have
impacted their results. In their discussion of uncertainty there is a lack of clarity in the definition used
which could cause confusion given the associated context in which the measure is being used. The
definition of uncertainty within the scientific community most certainly differs from the

ABSTRACT The elaboration and commercialization of counterfeit products is an issue that has been
growing prominently within the last 20 years. There is no place in the world free with this type of

2.2 Inflation and CPI
CPI as the measuring indicator of inflation is important to almost every part of the economy and
monetary policy decisions (Boskin et al. 1998). CPI trend is the important as it is a constant utility price

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has published CPI in 2011 as 16th series which shows compiling

Sowbug Report
OUTLINE. Introduction to the Question:
–A subclass of pheromones is necromones, which contain oleic acid as a primary component.
–Some pheromones trigger aggregation between organisms, others can trigger separation.
–Necromones trigger necrophoric (organisms remove their dead) or necrophobic (organisms avoid their
dead) behavior.
–Arthropods use pheromones, this includes sowbugs and cockroaches. Chemical signals are picked up
by antennae.
II. Hypothesis:
When given a choice between two identical shelters, sowbugs will display necrophobic behavior by
aggregating in the shelter that does not contain oleic acid.
III. Biological Rationale:
–C.D. Rollo study showed that cockroaches display necrophobic behavior around oleic acid (dead ...

distilled water, 6 filter papers, and 30 sowbugs.
2. Place 10 randomly selected sowbugs in each of the 3 empty tin bowls for 3 minutes to allow them to
acclimate to the environment.
3. During the 3 minute period, soak each filter paper with 1mL of distilled water, because sowbugs
have been shown to prefer moist environments.
4. Add 1mL of oleic acid to three of the wet filter papers, this creates the independent variable. One
will go in each tin.
5. Using the scissors, cut two small doors in each ketchup container on opposite sides, so that when the
container is placed upside down, the sowbugs may enter it. Having 2 doors in each increases the chance
of sowbugs finding an entrance.
6. After 3 minutes, quickly place the wet filter papers on opposite sides of the tin (noting which one
contains oleic acid) and cover them with the ketchup containers. The doors should face away from the
center, towards the edges of the tin. The placement of the oleic acid–containing paper should be
random, no preference for either side of the tin.
7. Wait 20 minutes, observing the sowbug's behavior. This 20 minute period gives them time to find

Victimization, Perceive Crime Ad The Justice System Essay
Data and Variables
This study is influenced by variables that have been gathered from the General Social Survey on
Victimization. The information from the survey dates back to 2009, and focuses specifically on Crime
and Justice, and well as Society and Community. The data set consist of 554 different variables, and
19422 cases from all provinces within Canada excluding territories. The data was collected by Statistics
Canada on behalf of those who have been victimized. Also known as Cycle 23, the data collected only
survey those who were 15 years of age and above. The purpose of this survey is to understand how
Canadians, through their experiences of victimization, perceive crime ad the justice system.
Since not all provinces have the same population within, a sample was gathered from each province as
a representative of the overall population. When analyzing the province of resident of each respondent,
Ontario and Quebec have the largest samples because they consist of the largest populations. On the
contrary, Newfoundland and Labrador, along with Prince Edward Island have the smallest samples
because the population of those provinces are lower compared to other provinces. Samples of each
population act as a representatives to the population for many reasons. The main reasons are that it is
very difficult to interview every single household within a country. Not all information will be accurate,
and not all variables apply to some individuals. Therefore it is possible

Is The Dependent Variable Womleg2010? Essay
In this paper I will argue that the dependent variable womleg2010, which is the percent of state
legislators that are women, is affected by a variety of variables in both positive and negative ways.
These variables include: state 's religiosity, gun laws, and a variable I merged into the state 's dataset
which is a state population's democratic share of the vote for president. I believe that higher levels of
religiosity will have a large negative impact on the number of women legislators in a state. I
hypothesize this is because states with higher levels of religiosity tend to also be more conservative and
therefore would have more patriarchal values which would go against seeing women as legislators. I
found in my data that religiosity did have a large negative impact on the number of women legislators
in different states. In a summary of the data, I found that for every 1 unit increase of religiosity in state
the number of women legislators would go down by –.06035, and since it has a T value of –3.559 we
can see the data is reliable. As for the Democratic share of the vote for president variable I found it had
a positive impact on the number of women legislators in a state. For every one unit increase of this
variable there was a .31286 increase of women legislators, and this variable had a T value of 2.494 so I
can use the data. I originally assumed that this variable would have a positive impact on the number of
women legislators in a state and I found that this

Satisfier
In the Article Doing better but feeling worse: Looking for the "best" job undermines satisfaction,
researchers studied the satisfaction levels and decision–making outcomes between those with
maximizing tendencies compared to those with satisfier tendencies. The study was designed around the
argument that, though maximizers appear to be less happy than satisfiers, are the maximizers using
strategies that objectively result in better outcomes (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006)? Based on that
central argument, two hypotheses were developed for this study. The first hypothesis was based on the
topics of choices and decision making; it stated that the maximizers, compared to satisfiers, would put

Another issue area was both the characteristics of the participant sample and the various groups of
participants in the study. The age range that was used for this study, though it ranged from 21–57, was
still highly skewed towards a younger sample with a median age of 21. Age is a factor that could have
contributed to lower satisfaction levels because it suggests that this might have been the first real job
search and job itself that many of these individuals had (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006). There
could have been more stress and lower satisfaction rates because many of the participants never had a
job relating to their college degree before. Another area of concern relating to the participants is that the
sample was largely female; this could cause a difference in how the results are relating to the
population (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006).
There were also issues with the groups of participants that took part in the study because there were
three groups, T1, T2, and T3, that were involved in the study, but not all of the groups were tested for
all conditions of the study and there were different numbers of participants in each group as well.
Though T2 and T3 stemmed from T1, the groups still had different number of participants because of
the lower response rates (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006). Lastly, a

from any symptoms and is able to perform her duties, but will need two hours off monthly from
3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. to make doctor visits." Jill never gave the dates she would need off only the time

to take a medical exam, after a job offer has been made. The policy was put in place because the firm
was having problems, with new hires that they discovered had health problems. As a supervisor I will
comply with the director's directive, while ensuring that all federal guidelines for hiring anyone with a
disability are being upheld. This will be being done to avoid the firm receiving any future lawsuits. I
will further investigate if other supervisors and managers agree with my position. The job offer was

The Theory Of Management And Management
Introduction Since its early days, management has been studied by various theorists and has provided
scholars with much to study and discuss. Early principles were developed and expounded upon.
Research and studies allowed the field to grow and evolve as improvements and new discoveries were
made. Theorists soon discovered the complexity of management and that there was no single way to
manage all people or circumstances. This observation led theorists to research various methods to bring
a level of flexibility into management.
One tactic management may use to provide the flexibility required for various situations is the
contingency approach. This is approach recognizes that organizations are different, thus they require
different management methods (Robbins & Coulter, 2007, p. 39). Fiedler's Contingency Model states
that a leader's character and situation are the two factors affecting performance (Greer & Plunket, 2003;
Mitchell, Biglan, Oncken & Fiedler, 1970). Each of these two factors has variables involved such as
task or relationship oriented as part of their character and how much the leader feels accepted, whether
a task is structured versus defined, and the level of power he or she has over others as part of their
situation (Greer & Plunket, 2003; Mitchell et al., 1970).
Findings
While the Contingency Model provides useful information for and about leaders it is not limited to
leadership. This approach can be applied to other situations or areas and be as

Examples Of Multivariate Analysis
As we have discussed in earlier chapter, there are a variety of multivariate techniques available to the
researcher or analyst. Also, there are multitude of issues involved in each of their application.
Therefore, it becomes evident that successful completion of a multivariate analysis involves not only
the selection of correct method but also several other issues. There are other issues to be addressed such
as problem definition, empirical issues and critical diagnosis of results.
A six–step approach to multivariate analysis is presented in subsequent paragraphs. This process helps
the researcher, analyst or user in applying the appropriate multivariate method or technique to analyse
the data. The different stages in the structured approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researcher or analyst needs to define the research problem and analyse the objectives in conceptual
terms, before specifying the variables or measures. The role of conceptual model development or
theory cannot be overstated. Whether in academic or applied research, the researcher must view the
problem in conceptual terms by defining the concepts. Then he has to identify the essential
relationships that are to be investigated.
A conceptual model need not be detailed and complex. It can be just a simple representation of
relationships to be studied. For example, if a dependence relationship is proposed as research objective,
then the researcher has to specify the dependent and independent concepts. For an application of an
interdependence technique, the dimensions of structure or similarity should be specified. Sometimes a
concept or an idea, rather than specific variables, is defined in both dependence and interdependence
situations.
Once the objective and conceptual model are specified, then the researcher has to select the suitable
multivariate technique based on the measurement characteristics of dependent and independent
variables. Variables for each concept are generally specified prior to the study. But, it may be necessary
to respecify or even state in a different form, for example, transformations or creating dummy
variables, after the data has been collected.
Stage 2: Develop the analysis

Should College Athletes Be Paid Essay
In trying to decide what research topic I wanted to use, I took many ideas into thought. I decided that
the one idea that interests me most is whether student athletes should be paid or not. This is very
intriguing to me since my master's program is sports management. In order to do this research there
must be many ways to use research as well as ideas from other people. This project is a very big topic
in today's discussion amongst sport fans, college administrators, and student athletes themselves. Media
has recently put more pressure on this topic as well with the Northwestern decision to unionize as well
as pointing out an athletic director gaining an $18,000 supplement for a wrestler at their school winning

Each university associated with the NCAA differ in size and budgeting. Some schools would have no
problem paying each student athlete at their school only because of their profits from their ultimate
money sports such a football and basketball, while other schools struggle now to even field enough
teams to remain an NCAA school. This is why I find it intriguing to see where each school lies on how
this situation could affect them. Athletes being paid could also affect high school and pro sports as well
which interests me more to research this topic. High school athletics could improve by students pushing
harder at the high school level to reach the college level because of pay, while pro sports could have
many different affects such as students not leaving school early because of pay at the college level now.
After extensive study on different types of worldview, I realized that transformative worldview would
be the best view to bring to the study. ( ) One of the ideas provided in our text book stated that research
"needs to be intertwined with politics and a political change agenda to confront social oppression at
whatever level it occurs." (9)This statement is a direct viewpoint that could be brought from the
research on the topic. Politics have changed college athletics and have a very big influence on what
happens in each sport. One of the implications that became a realization is empowerment because

Sex Work : A Negative Impact On A Person 's Lifetime Essay
The results of this study conclude that sex work has a detrimental negative impact during a person's
lifetime. The hypothesis was well supported by the interviews conducted in the sampling phase. The
three stages covered in the study gave detail description of the comparisons with food/ service/styling
occupation and sex work. For example, "It used a life course orientation that recognizes the
contributions of both distal and proximate factors in explaining outcomes, and it compared working in
the sex industry with employment in other service/care work jobs. A life course approach highlights...
various life stages influence subsequent decisions and experiences... important experiences from child–
hood, adolescence, and emerging adulthood, in addition to basic demographic factors"(pg.1387). If
harm enters the life course and life span development theory it becomes difficult to experience life. The
actions taken in the early development of a person life can set the course for the individual's future and
how they handle their reality either in a negative or positive way. According to the authors of Sex

consequences influencing development and decisions in and throughout adulthood... the oppression

A Research Study On Global Variables
Above you see an extract from the log in page, showing the heavy dependence on $_SESSION
variables. These are required so much because they allow other pages to access the data. If I just used
local variables I'd have no ability to transfer data between pages, and this is necessary to keep track of
things like who is logged in or if even anyone is logged in. All SQL queries come back as associative
arrays too, with each column entry being an element in the array, so they are very prominent.
There are many algorithms implemented in this project throughout to do various things, from checking
passwords securely to generating tables for the admin. I will analyse some of these at a later point.

The more difficult questions require more time since they are harder and will take longer. The time
setting adjusts the time defined by the difficulty slightly.
You can see what the one and two letter codes mean by looking at the getqcode function on page 4.
Parameter passing
A good example of parameter passing by reference is with the SQL queries, particularly the connection
and result. Consider the following:
$con2 is a connection variable that provides access to the MySQL database. This is therefore clearly
passed by reference as well as $r, the result since they can have their contents modified by a function
and then be used afterwards. On the other hand, in the example above (get_time), the variables $time
and $diff are passed by value. They are disconnected from the original when they get passed, changes
to them will not affect the original.
Programming practice
One of the most important things in programming is readability and code style in general. It is good if
your code runs efficiently and correctly but if anything ever goes wrong with it, it will be a nightmare
to deal with if the code isn't formatted or named correctly. I have therefore tried to give all variables
meaningful names so that if I ever look back over the code or make changes, I will know what each bit
does. Commenting is also quite important. An algorithm you understood when programming it may end

Importance Of Political Egalitarianism
Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal
conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political
equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio–professional
categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the
only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the
others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects
participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with

will enable students to bring together all the parts associated with the Learning Portfolio into one
coherent academic essay and evaluate what has been learnt throughout ... Show more content on

Global Economy And Economic Variables 1 COURSE PROJECT MG631 – GLOBAL ECONOMY How Global Economy and Economic Variables are affecting Global Operations of Apple Corporation 2 Executive Summary The macroeconomic discussi ons that Apple 's success tends to be very curious things. Here we have a company that 's been phenomenally successful, making products people love s and directly creating nearly 50,000 American jobs in doing so, criticised for not locating its manufa cturing operations in America, eve n as Americans complain about the working conditions of those doing the manufacture abroad: life in dormitories, 12 – hour sh ifts 6 days a week, and low pay . The utility of Apple, however, is that it does provide a framewo rk within which we can discuss the significant changes that have occurred across the global economy in recent decades. Apple 's products are assembled in massive factory complexes in China, run by Foxxconn, which also handles the production of consumer elec tronics for many other large players in the industry. The success of Apple Corp can be traced to majorly to some of the economic conditions discussed in this report. In section 1, Apple was able to minimize labour cost in it production by setting up assembly plants in parts of Asia where labour are cheaper compare to the US. In section 2, economic of scale was discussed as the cost advantages exploited by expanding the scale of production in the long run. Could a median be determined for the education data? If so, what would the median be for education for the experimental and the control groups? Provide a rationale for your answer. For the education data, I must say to calculate the median, from high school to college graduate, the median would be the some college portion since it would be the middle. The median for the experimental group would be 11 and 34.4% and for the control group it would be 15 and 41.7%. 8. Can the findings from this study be generalized to Black women? Provide a rationale for your answer. No, because the mode in this study shows to be White women. There is only 1 Black woman in the experimental group and none in the control group, therefore statistically, it could not be generalized to Black women. 9. It is an empty canvas, glowing lustrous in the light of the splendor above. The night is ablaze in flickers of light cast scattered across the darkness. Upon this frigid expanse I stand alone from the world, but for the dead remains of cornhusks trapped beneath the ice. My skin burns from the bite of the wind, but when I glance above, caught among the stars, I am perfectly content. Growing up in the suburbs, I felt alive and yet, overwhelmed. Pulsing with electricity, the whole world was one click away, at my fingertips. A network of sights, sounds, and puzzles spread out before me, an overpowering and uncontrollable force. My life is run by schedules, planning each minute and precious second out in harsh ink. Everything must be in order, must be under control, and must have a purpose. Real life doesn't run on a schedule; even the smallest decision can alter the direction of the future. I am frightened of just how much I am unable to see, how much I might overlook and be unable to safely tuck away in the far recesses of my memories. In the suburbs so close in contact with uncontrollable chaos, I am not can never be perfectly content. Instead, I find my peace in the middle of my Grandfather's cornfields. • 9. Finding Accurate Causal Affects Of A National Supported Work Paul Doxsee Econ 104 Finding Accurate Causal Affects Abstract An analysis was performed to see if the effect of a National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was effective in increasing the earnings of a group of individuals. The analysis showed that, on average, those treated earned roughly $800 more than their counterparts three years later. Because of the randomization method used when selecting the participants, we can be confident that this estimate is causal. This randomization removes all biases from omitted variables as well as any selection bias, because the groups were systematically alike as shown in the analysis. Another analysis was performed using data from both the NSW study as well as the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). This analysis showed that using non– experimental data creates biased results because the two groups are not comparable. Furthermore, even the use of regressions in an attempt to correct this bias will not be successful and will still not result in causal results. Introduction The National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was an experiment that took individuals with long–term employment problems and randomly assigned them to either receive or not receive a job training program. The goal of this program was to show that these job training programs work, in that they help people get better, higher paying jobs. The results of the study supported that. They showed that on average the earnings of the treated group after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. How Do Video Games Affect Body Image Results The hypothesis or H1 stated that people who have higher levels of exposure to video games have a more negative view of their own body. A correlation test conducted to test the relationship between two continuous variables. There was no significant relationship found between the independent variable which was the level of exposure to video game and the dependent variable being the view of their own body. The equation for this research result is r(260) =–.03, p=.62. The lower–case r stands for the type of test that was run which was a correlation. While the number 260 stands for the degree of freedom in the equation. There were some minor affects shown through this testing, but not enough to prove the hypothesis to be true. In the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Barlett and Harris (2008) also did a test on woman and how video games affected their body image. The results showed for this part of the study that "playing a video game that emphasized the ideal female body would cause negative body–images in female participants" (Barlett & Harris, 2008). So, in both of their studies there were signs that showed decreases in men's and women's view of their own body while playing video games. A study was done by McCab, Butler, and Watt (2007) which was on how media changes the attitudes of men and woman view on body image. Their findings in their study showed that "the results demonstrated that women generally overestimated their actual body size" (McCab, Butler, & Watt, 2007). The women over estimated what their body sizes were because of their attitude towards their body image. There were different styles used to determine the different perceptions of the different body images. Men, when asked how they felt about their body images, determined that they "overestimated all parts of their bodies except their hips" ( McCab, Butler, & Watt, 2007). It was shown that both men and women over estimate their body size because of how media perceive what they should look like in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Economics is the managnment of scarce resources. We live in the world of scarcity and. Where from basic necessity to luxury even the human being is a scarce commodity. So in order to uncertainity use at the optimum level, we have to use the scarce resources as efficient as possible. Crude oil is a scarce commodity in the world. Its Elasticity of demand and supply both are less elastic.Because of demand and supply factors and also because of other intervening variables like cartel, hoarding, supply shocks etc., day by day prices are increasing and causing demand pull as well as cost push inflation. In a country like Pakistan international price hike not only causes imported cost push inflation but also demand pull inflation. Actually Compressed Natural Gas CNG and Liquified Petrolium Gas LPG are very poor susbtitutes of petrol. So as international price increases, this leads to lacal inflation in the economy, leading to fall in the foreign exchange reserves as foreign currency becomes short ... • 21. Economic Variables For Fedex Expanding globally is a major decision that requires a lot of a company. Before deciding to expand into a global market, the management team should first ensure that the company is ready for the move. It is very important that the company has the financial managers to identify and review the economic variables that are associated with the targeted company. Economic variables are used by many analyses to help identify the health and strength of a selected country's economy. In this assignment, I will discuss the important economic variables that financial managers of FedEx Corporation need to identify before expanding in Canada. The economic variables that I will be discussing are inflation rate, interest rate, consumer price index (CPI), unemployment rate, and exchange rate. The first economic indicator that I will be discuss is the inflation rate. The rate that price of products and services steadily increases is the inflation rate. The reason that the financial managers of FedEx should be aware of the inflation rate of Canada is the fact that higher inflation rates has an impact on the buying power of the consumers. As the prices of products are increased due to inflation, consumers may become more reluctant to spend their money. Also, the company may become victim of the inflation rate directly. FedEx may see an increase in expenses if they company decides to purchase products locally and in utility bills. The second economic variable that I will be discuss is the ... • 23. Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence And... Introduction In a study by Mandell and Pherwani (2003), the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and transformational leadership style was examined in order to determine whether EI scores could be used to predict transformational leadership style. In addition, gender differences in the relationship between EI and transformational leadership were examined to determine if there is a significant interaction of gender and emotional intelligence. This research is important, because transformational leadership has been found to be the most effective style of leadership. Therefore, if EI can predict transformational leadership style, it would be useful for organizations to use EI measures in their selection battery for managerial positions and in development of current managers. In the study, transformational leadership was defined as a leadership style that encourages subordinates to look at their work from different viewpoints, motivates employees to promote the organization's mission, and develops employee abilities. Emotional intelligence was defined as an ability that involves self–monitoring of one's own feelings and emotions, as well as, monitoring the emotions of others in order to guide one's behaviors and make decisions. Consistent with the previous research, Mandell and Pherwani (2003) found that EI scores do significantly predict transformational leadership style. However, they found no significant relationship between gender and EI while predicting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Factors That Affect A Continuous Variable Of A Type II Error? Often times as researchers, we will take continuous variables and break it up into categories, typically for the purpose of grouping, or to measure an outcome measure. We usually decide on a reasonable cut–point and place the data in the appropriate category. Streiner (2002) asserts that this categorization results in lost information, reduced power of statistical tests, as well as an increased probability of a Type II error. In Streiner (2002) article, written primarily for researchers, he states that the only justified reasons for dichotomizing a continuous variable is when the distribution is highly skewed or the data shows a non–linear relationship with another variable. Often in research, we will take outcome data variable from something such as an anxiety or depression inventory, which uses a continuous measure, and we dichotomize that outcome variable. Typically it is above or below a predetermined cut–point and we do this to see if there was a reduction from previous baseline scores. Other examples may be placing subjects in different groups or categories by dichotomizing or trichotomizing scores from a continuous scale. Often the reasons for dichotomizing this data is to make the data easier to understand when they are in proportion or odds ratios, and therefore making it easier to determine who to treat and who not to treat. According to Streiner (2002) this can have severe ramifications in terms of power or sample size when these continuous variables are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Benefits Of The Disease Model Of Addiction To begin, I would like to discuss the benefits of the disease model for addiction. To be fair, this model resonates with me the most. As stated in the Historical Perspectives on Addiction, "By changing the way we talk about addiction, we change the way people think about addiction, both of which are critical steps in getting past the social stigma too often associated with this disease" (Freed, 2012, p.27). I feel that this quote sums up the most significant benefit of the disease model. Not only does it remove stigma, but by removing this stigma you could potentially have more individuals seeking treatment. In addition to this, by removing stigma you move it from an individual's problem into a public health issue. Therefore, if addiction is a public health issue you would see more services/support systems available. A second benefit of the disease model is that there is evidence that supports the theory (Hall,2017). On the other hand, there are some negative aspects associated with this model. One criticism is the disease model may "prevent them from developing self–control, and damages self–esteem (Frank, 2017, p.130). In my opinion, I do not agree with this statement because I believe that the disease model gives more power to individuals. Although, I do agree that the disease model does not explain the "Large–scale epidemiological studies show high percentages of spontaneous recovery, even without specific treatment" (Frank, 2017, p.130). Title Evaluation The title of the journal article to be critically evaluated is Influence of health information levels on postpartum depression. This title is not sufficiently specific because the variables are not easily understood. What is meant by health information levels? The reader must examine the article further to understand if this health information is provided, or does the article refer to the level of health–related knowledge each participant already possessed from another source, such as their career or education. Furthermore, the article doesn't state a population. It would be helpful to the reader to know who is experiencing postpartum depression (PPD). For example, is the PPD experienced by teenagers, first–time mothers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for the lengthiness was that the article provided quite a bit of information regarding the methodology and results, which may have been presented later in the paper. For example, the title of measure was described. Also, the writing style of the author is difficult to follow at times. Overall, the abstract provided more information than necessary and may, therefore, overwhelm readers. Specifically, those readers who are reviewing multiple research studies in order to decide which are relevant for their particular interest or population. Introduction and Literature Review Evaluation The introduction and literature review successfully identifies the importance and prevalence of PPD. However, it moved from citation to citation. For example, the following excerpt from the article, written by Youash, Sabrina, et al. (2013), states "It has been well established that PPD can affect maternal–infant interactions (Beck 2001), and women with PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Pop et al. 1993)" (p. 489). It would increase readability to combine citations. Thus the sentence would read, It has been well established that PPD can affect maternal–infant interactions, and women with PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Beck 2001, ... No one ensures today's gain will lead to the consequence that I will still profit tomorrow. Therefore, it is truly crucial to generate scenarios for various economic variables and asset returns using Monte Carlo technique across multiple time periods. Moreover, many economic variables such as equity returns, credit transitions and exchange rates are stochastic processes. As a simple illustration for equity scenarios, we can use the basic Geometric Brownian Motion, which is given by: , which is unpredictable 'random shocks'. The annuity will offer 20 annual payments paid at the end of each year. The payment amounts depend on interest rate at retirement and can be formulated by solving: for the unknown , where represents the lump sum and means the price of a zero coupon bond maturing at time t as seen at time 15. Prove that if the interest rates at retirement are 6% per year, then the annual payment are approximately £43,600, and then calculate the annual payments if the interest rates were to fall to 1%. Firstly, we can demonstrate using the given annual payment £43,600 to calculate the lump sum. The lump sum is £500,088.5651 £500,000. Next, we will use the £500,000 to calculate the value of X. As known before, the lump sum is £500,000, which is the present value at time 15. Job engagement also appears to follow a similar pattern, with less satisfied countries having less job engagement, however, as engagement increases there seems to be less variation between countries. Education does not seem to have any strong effects displayed in the graph as the data falls and rises throughout the graph. The relationship between the variables is less pronounced for the US (refer to Figure 2) as there does not seem to be a strong relationship between any of the variables. Income and education follow a similar trend to the countrywide data, both slightly increasing with job satisfaction. Job engagement surprisingly appears to be decreasing with satisfaction for the US data as the values get slightly lower. Job engagement and education also appear to interact, eventually converging to a similar point. Uncertainty Risk Trust And Information In Literature Review The Article, "Uncertainty, Risk, Trust, and Information: Public Perceptions of Environmental Issues and Willingness to Take Action" written by Reneé J. Johnson and Michael J. Scicchitano in its current form is unfit for publication. Johnson and Scicchitano should be commended for identifying a gap in our ability to accurately quantify the strength and intensity of environmental concerns. This gap is certainly worthy of further study; however, their execution and attempt to quantify this phenomena does not have the necessary wherewithal to close the gap in the literature as it stands. Further, the literature review suffers from an additional lack of clarity in the paragraph on the bottom of page 634. Here, the authors begin to delve into the theory and rationalization behind including uncertainty as an appropriate measure. The authors write, "Uncertainty can affect an individuals willingness to act on environmental beliefs in several ways" signaling to the reader that a laundry list of factors is to follow. However, they only make mention of one tangentially linked evidence based factor, that an increase in the complexity of issues leads to increased uncertainty in the scientific community. No further examples in support of uncertainty follow this one. Instead, the authors pivot towards unfounded speculation about uncertainties role in individuals willingness to take environmental action, and then they abruptly transition to their discussion of trust. The issue of uncertainty persists in the manner with which the authors have chosen to operationalize their research question. When operationalizing their research question the authors made several critical clerical errors that could have impacted their results. In their discussion of uncertainty there is a lack of clarity in the definition used which could cause confusion given the associated context in which the measure is being used. The information from the survey dates back to 2009, and focuses specifically on Crime and Justice, and well as Society and Community. The data set consist of 554 different variables, and 19422 cases from all provinces within Canada excluding territories. The data was collected by Statistics Canada on behalf of those who have been victimized. Also known as Cycle 23, the data collected only survey those who were 15 years of age and above. The purpose of this survey is to understand how Canadians, through their experiences of victimization, perceive crime ad the justice system. Since not all provinces have the same population within, a sample was gathered from each province as a representative of the overall population. When analyzing the province of resident of each respondent, Ontario and Quebec have the largest samples because they consist of the largest populations. On the contrary, Newfoundland and Labrador, along with Prince Edward Island have the smallest samples because the population of those provinces are lower compared to other provinces. Essay In this paper I will argue that the dependent variable womleg2010, which is the percent of state legislators that are women, is affected by a variety of variables in both positive and negative ways. These variables include: state 's religiosity, gun laws, and a variable I merged into the state 's dataset which is a state population's democratic share of the vote for president. I believe that higher levels of religiosity will have a large negative impact on the number of women legislators in a state. I hypothesize this is because states with higher levels of religiosity tend to also be more conservative and therefore would have more patriarchal values which would go against seeing women as legislators. I found in my data that religiosity did have a large negative impact on the number of women legislators in different states. In a summary of the data, I found that for every 1 unit increase of religiosity in state the number of women legislators would go down by –.06035, and since it has a T value of –3.559 we can see the data is reliable. As for the Democratic share of the vote for president variable I found it had a positive impact on the number of women legislators in a state. For every one unit increase of this variable there was a .31286 increase of women legislators, and this variable had a T value of 2.494 so I can use the data. I originally assumed that this variable would have a positive impact on the number of women legislators in a state and I found that this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Satisfier In the Article Doing better but feeling worse: Looking for the "best" job undermines satisfaction, researchers studied the satisfaction levels and decision–making outcomes between those with maximizing tendencies compared to those with satisfier tendencies. The study was designed around the argument that, though maximizers appear to be less happy than satisfiers, are the maximizers using strategies that objectively result in better outcomes (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006)? Based on that central argument, two hypotheses were developed for this study. The first hypothesis was based on the topics of choices and decision making; it stated that the maximizers, compared to satisfiers, would put in more time to collect information from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another issue area was both the characteristics of the participant sample and the various groups of participants in the study. The age range that was used for this study, though it ranged from 21–57, was still highly skewed towards a younger sample with a median age of 21. Age is a factor that could have contributed to lower satisfaction levels because it suggests that this might have been the first real job search and job itself that many of these individuals had (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006). There could have been more stress and lower satisfaction rates because many of the participants never had a job relating to their college degree before. Another area of concern relating to the participants is that the sample was largely female; this could cause a difference in how the results are relating to the population (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006). There were also issues with the groups of participants that took part in the study because there were three groups, T1, T2, and T3, that were involved in the study, but not all of the groups were tested for all conditions of the study and there were different numbers of participants in each group as well. Though T2 and T3 stemmed from T1, the groups still had different number of participants because of the lower response rates (Iyengar, Wells, & Schwartz, 2006). Lastly, a ... The purpose of this report, is to determine whether or not I should hire Jill for the position of "floating" Administrative Assistant, to work any of the three shifts; day, night, or graveyard when the regular assistant is absent. Jill has been diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis, which is currently in remission. The director of operations is telling me not to hire Jill, because if she becomes ill in the future, her medical condition may impact the firm financially. Jill states, "She is currently not suffering from any symptoms and is able to perform her duties, but will need two hours off monthly from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. to make doctor visits." Jill never gave the dates she would need off only the time frame. The director's advisement is based on the firm's new policy. This policy requires all employees to take a medical exam, after a job offer has been made. The policy was put in place because the firm was having problems, with new hires that they discovered had health problems. As a supervisor I will comply with the director's directive, while ensuring that all federal guidelines for hiring anyone with a disability are being upheld. This will be being done to avoid the firm receiving any future lawsuits. I will further investigate if other supervisors and managers agree with my position. The job offer was rescinded based on the essential function of the job description, not Jill's condition. The essential function of the job requires a person to be a ... • 63. The Theory Of Management And Management Introduction Since its early days, management has been studied by various theorists and has provided scholars with much to study and discuss. Early principles were developed and expounded upon. Research and studies allowed the field to grow and evolve as improvements and new discoveries were made. Theorists soon discovered the complexity of management and that there was no single way to manage all people or circumstances. This observation led theorists to research various methods to bring a level of flexibility into management. One tactic management may use to provide the flexibility required for various situations is the contingency approach. This is approach recognizes that organizations are different, thus they require different management methods (Robbins & Coulter, 2007, p. 39). Fiedler's Contingency Model states that a leader's character and situation are the two factors affecting performance (Greer & Plunket, 2003; Mitchell, Biglan, Oncken & Fiedler, 1970). Each of these two factors has variables involved such as task or relationship oriented as part of their character and how much the leader feels accepted, whether a task is structured versus defined, and the level of power he or she has over others as part of their situation (Greer & Plunket, 2003; Mitchell et al., 1970). Findings While the Contingency Model provides useful information for and about leaders it is not limited to leadership. This approach can be applied to other situations or areas and be as ... • 65. Examples Of Multivariate Analysis As we have discussed in earlier chapter, there are a variety of multivariate techniques available to the researcher or analyst. Also, there are multitude of issues involved in each of their application. Therefore, it becomes evident that successful completion of a multivariate analysis involves not only the selection of correct method but also several other issues. There are other issues to be addressed such as problem definition, empirical issues and critical diagnosis of results. A six–step approach to multivariate analysis is presented in subsequent paragraphs. This process helps the researcher, analyst or user in applying the appropriate multivariate method or technique to analyse the data. The different stages in the structured approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researcher or analyst needs to define the research problem and analyse the objectives in conceptual terms, before specifying the variables or measures. The role of conceptual model development or theory cannot be overstated. Whether in academic or applied research, the researcher must view the problem in conceptual terms by defining the concepts. Then he has to identify the essential relationships that are to be investigated. A conceptual model need not be detailed and complex. It can be just a simple representation of relationships to be studied. For example, if a dependence relationship is proposed as research objective, then the researcher has to specify the dependent and independent concepts. For an application of an interdependence technique, the dimensions of structure or similarity should be specified. Sometimes a concept or an idea, rather than specific variables, is defined in both dependence and interdependence situations. Once the objective and conceptual model are specified, then the researcher has to select the suitable multivariate technique based on the measurement characteristics of dependent and independent variables. Variables for each concept are generally specified prior to the study. But, it may be necessary to respecify or even state in a different form, for example, transformations or creating dummy variables, after the data has been collected. Stage 2: Develop the analysis ... I decided that the one idea that interests me most is whether student athletes should be paid or not. This is very intriguing to me since my master's program is sports management. In order to do this research there must be many ways to use research as well as ideas from other people. This project is a very big topic in today's discussion amongst sport fans, college administrators, and student athletes themselves. Some schools would have no problem paying each student athlete at their school only because of their profits from their ultimate money sports such a football and basketball, while other schools struggle now to even field enough teams to remain an NCAA school. This is why I find it intriguing to see where each school lies on how this situation could affect them. Athletes being paid could also affect high school and pro sports as well which interests me more to research this topic. High school athletics could improve by students pushing harder at the high school level to reach the college level because of pay, while pro sports could have many different affects such as students not leaving school early because of pay at the college level now. After extensive study on different types of worldview, I realized that transformative worldview would be the best view to bring to the study. ( ) One of the ideas provided in our text book stated that research "needs to be intertwined with politics and a political change agenda to confront social oppression at whatever level it occurs." (9)This statement is a direct viewpoint that could be brought from the research on the topic. Politics have changed college athletics and have a very big influence on what happens in each sport. The hypothesis was well supported by the interviews conducted in the sampling phase. The three stages covered in the study gave detail description of the comparisons with food/ service/styling occupation and sex work. For example, "It used a life course orientation that recognizes the contributions of both distal and proximate factors in explaining outcomes, and it compared working in the sex industry with employment in other service/care work jobs. A life course approach highlights... various life stages influence subsequent decisions and experiences... important experiences from child– hood, adolescence, and emerging adulthood, in addition to basic demographic factors"(pg.1387). If harm enters the life course and life span development theory it becomes difficult to experience life. The actions taken in the early development of a person life can set the course for the individual's future and how they handle their reality either in a negative or positive way. According to the authors of Sex Work: A Comparative Study, "experiences from early in the life course can have long–term consequences influencing development and decisions in and throughout adulthood... the oppression paradigm, working in the sex industry was associated with a number of negative experiences from childhood and adolescence"(Pg. 1387). These are required so much because they allow other pages to access the data. If I just used local variables I'd have no ability to transfer data between pages, and this is necessary to keep track of things like who is logged in or if even anyone is logged in. All SQL queries come back as associative arrays too, with each column entry being an element in the array, so they are very prominent. The more difficult questions require more time since they are harder and will take longer. The time setting adjusts the time defined by the difficulty slightly. You can see what the one and two letter codes mean by looking at the getqcode function on page 4. Parameter passing A good example of parameter passing by reference is with the SQL queries, particularly the connection and result. Consider the following: $con2 is a connection variable that provides access to the MySQL database. This is therefore clearly passed by reference as well as $r, the result since they can have their contents modified by a function and then be used afterwards. On the other hand, in the example above (get_time), the variables $time and $diff are passed by value. They are disconnected from the original when they get passed, changes to them will not affect the original. Programming practice One of the most important things in programming is readability and code style in general. It is good if your code runs efficiently and correctly but if anything ever goes wrong with it, it will be a nightmare to deal with if the code isn't formatted or named correctly. I have therefore tried to give all variables meaningful names so that if I ever look back over the code or make changes, I will know what each bit does. Commenting is also quite important. • 79. Importance Of Political Egalitarianism Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio–professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. Many studies on different countries have established that the greater economic status of the individuals corresponds to greater political participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly subordinates to the following logic: a certain social and economic position that evokes a sense of social and political competence generates a certain level of political participation.
