A Good Teacher As A Teacher
A great teacher like Mrs. Lee does not just teach students but has the remarkable ability to change a
student's way of learning. School has always been important to me and I have been lucky enough to
have had some very good teachers along the way. The perquisite for me having all those good
teachers is I always knew what I wanted to do with my life. As a student, it was advantageous to
have a teacher that can have such an impact on me.
Mrs. Lee was my eight grade English Teacher. She was a powerful influencer for me because her
style of teaching turned learning into an enjoyment. Mrs. Lee made learning very feasible. An
example of this is I had often spent hours deliberating over homework and still felt utterly clueless.
She had influenced me to not stop at a barrier but, to overcome it to the best of my ability. Often, I
felt as if Mrs. Lee was the little voice in my head chanting me on to the finish line. She cared about
each of her students as individuals. Just like a parent, she would constantly express words of
gratitude. She would come in early or stay after school. I would come in regularly in the morning, to
which I remembered the smell of warm coffee and sweet peppermints. Even the smell of her
eloquent perfume was comforting to me. Mrs. Lee wanted all her students to succeed, not to just be
successful in her class but in the future. Mrs. Lee had an uncanny philosophy for teaching. I have
always excelled in math and science because those classes are appealing to

Mary Downing Hahn Research Paper
Mary Downing Hahn
Mary Downing Hahn was born in College Park, Maryland on December 9,1937. When she was a
little kid both of her parents were working. She was left to stay with her grandmother, who lived
with them, at home while her parents worked. This wasn't a great situation like it would be for other
family's because Mary's grandmother had a mental illness. Mary never liked her grandma because
the illness caused her to be mean to Mary. When Mary got a little older she went outside to play
more to try to get away from her grandma. The neighborhood she grew up in was full of kids her
age, so she had plenty of people to play with. While Mary was young she hated writing, but yet
loved telling stories by drawing pictures.
Of course, it was time

Importance Of Reading Books
Have you ever been lucky enough to have a best friend that is your personal educational inspiration?
When I was younger, I had a best friend that loved to read. She would have multiple books that she
was reading at once and I would always make fun of her for reading so many books. She would just
come back with some witty remark about how reading is good for your mind. I was about eight
years old when she would say these things to me. I would just brush it off and think "oh whatever, I
don't need to read books to help my learning abilities". One day when I was about ten years old, my
school hosted a book fair. The school had these fairs every year and yet I would never get a book.
This year my friend had been talking in my ear all week about getting a book that I would enjoy. I
did not want to read anything but my friend begged me to try it so I went home that night and asked
my mom for some money for a book. Of course my mom happily gave me some. My friend and I
went to the book fair the next day and searched for a very long time. We could not find a book for
me for what seemed liked forever. Finally after searching for awhiler, we stumbled upon the thriller
section. Now that was my cup of tea. I loved horror movies so maybe I would also enjoy reading a
horror book. Instead of reading the books jacket summary to see if they sounded good or not, I
would just searched for a book that had an appealing cover to it. I picked a book out that had a lady
who looked like a ghost

Summary Of Closed For The Season And The Dead Man In...
Mary Downing Hahn has written over 20 books of many genres. She writes ghost, historical fiction,
and mystery books. Amazingly, she had a stroke at age 44 and has made a comeback. She is now 79
and has two kids. Dead man in Indian Creek is a drug related murder. It shows Matt Armentrout and
his best friend Parker Pettingill finding out about a drug deal in Woodcroft. Next, they find out that
Parker's mom, Pam, and her girlfriend, George Evans, are selling cocaine to a man named Flynn. In
Closed for the Season, Logan Forbes moves to the suburbs of Richmond and meet a kid named
Arthur Jenkins. He finds out that the previous owner of the house, Mrs. Donaldson, was murdered
and he wants to find out why and who. Overall the characters, themes, settings and conflicts are
fairly similar throughout the two books. In Closed for the Season and The Dead Man in Indian
Creek, the characters are similar in personality and their relationships with others. In The Dead Man
in Indian Creek, Matt is always being outshined by his best friend. He loves having parker around,
but his parents don't think the same thing. They think Parker is a bad influence on a good kid like
Matt. On page 33, Matt's dad says "'That boy has always been a bad influence on you,'" and
"'[Parker has] never been anything but a bad influence on you.'" A similar thing happens in Closed
for the Season when Logan's mom gets a call from Nina on pages 100–101. Logan's mom says
"'Arthur is off limits,'" making Logan really

Analysis Of Shakespeare 's ' Romeo And Juliet '
Traditional Criticism: a. Plot: This is a progressive plot where the exposition of the characters,
setting, and conflict are introduced in the beginning. Then, the story line builds with ideas
foreshadowing Sophia death. Florence's daily encounters and different relationships with every
character in the story continue to lead the reader to the climax. After the climax, the story ends,
almost happily ever after; however, it does leave the reader unsure if Sophia is finally restful in her
grave or will continue to haunt James and Florence. b. Characters: In the beginning, Florence is as
orphan who is accustomed to minimal possessions. She is brought in by her great uncle and aunt
who are wealthy with servants. Her personality does not change throughout the story. She is always
kind to the servants and respectful to her to caring uncle and unpleasant aunt. The only time
Florence's personally changes is when Sophia is controlling her actions and words. For example, she
tells at Nellie to leave her room. Then, when Sophia is not around, Florence apologizes for her
words to Nellie. She was always frightened when she was alone and Sophia appears, even at the end
of the story, when she just wants to leave her gravestone. c. Setting: The integral setting of this story
takes place in London in 1884. The seasons changes three times throughout the book. First, when
Florence arrives at Crutchfield Hall it is raining and cold, fall. Then, Florence sees snow from her
window and makes a

We All Looked Up By Tommy Wallach
In this paper I will talk about myself and how much I enjoy literature. I enjoy English. It makes me
feel smart and it makes me dig a little deeper. Certain books make students think, make the students
do research, make students find the deeper meaning. English expands teens vocabulary. This subject
just makes kids and teens want to learn more about literature. Starting with my favorite types of
books I enjoy mystery thrillers and sad stories. These kinds of books help me relate to my dramatic
interpretation in my debate class. The book that has impacted me the most is "We All Looked Up"
by Tommy Wallach, I have chosen this book, because it teaches people mainly teens how to live
their life to the fullest and appreciate what they have. This book is about all these teenagers that
have 2 months to really live their life before this giant asteroid comes and destroys planet earth. The
book also has some love triangles and secret relationships; therefore, it could also be classified as a
romance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book is about a teenage couple that creates a hate list, because they were both bullied; therefore,
they created a hate list and put all the people they hated or had done them wrong on that list. This
directly can relate this to a real life event, which is the Columbine Killers, this horrific event
occurred on April 20,1999. What had happened in the Columbine High School was a couple of out
casted kids that had been bullied by several classmates so they decided to take revenge, like the
couple in "The Hate List". They had a killing spree in their high school, killing 12 students including
1 teacher, injuring 23 some in critical condition. The boys later killed

Analysis Of Time For Andrew: A Ghost Story
"Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course, they
actually become the person they seem." This quote said by W. Somerset Maugham claims that
people are not what they may seem like, but their true characteristic will show eventually, just like
in the book Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story a mystery book by Mary Downing Hahn. In the
beginning of the story, Andrew, or Drew as his friends called him, went to visit his aunt in the forest
for the summer. They later found out that the attic was filled with pictures and items from the family
that lived in that house before them. "Holding my breath I untied the knot and tipped the pouch. A
stream of marbles poured out, nudging and bumping one another, overflowing ... Show more content

Later in the night, the boy that the bag belonged to, Andrew appeared in Drew's room. He looked
pale from diphtheria. " Andrew exclaimed. Have you no brains? We're alike as two peas in a pod.
All we need to do is switch places. I'll get in bed. You go up to the attic and hide"(39). Drew and
Andrew were exactly alike. They were the same age, and they looked the exact same, they only
difference is that Andrew was dead. When Andrew told drew he had diphtheria, they agreed to
switch places, so that Andrew can get help from a doctor. When Andrew told Drew to hide in the
attic, Drew realizes that Andrew tricked him. Andrew knew that if they switched places, Drew will
live in Andrew's world, and Andrew would live in Drew's world. This shows that people are not
what they might seem like. One can make a connection between this story and the real world
because in this story, the character soon realizes that people are not what they seem like. In the real
world, one can learn that people can always trick you into doing something, just like in the book.
From reading this book, the reader can learn that some people will trick you, and some people will
not be what you

What Is The Climax Of The Old Willis Place
Could you be friends with a ghost? You journey through this question with Mary Downing Hahn's
book, "The Old Willis Place." In The Old Willis Place, two children, Diana and Georgie live
together on a farm with a abandoned house. The farm has caretakers that don't take care of the farm
at all. Though Diana and Georgie are bound by "the rules" Diana talks to the caretaker's daughter,
Lissa. The two become best friends. But one day, when the two venture into the old house, Lissa lets
out Ms. Lillian's ghost, who despises, and had killed Diana and Georgie decades ago. Late one
night, Ms. Lillian finds Diana and Georgie. The two find out the truth about what really happened
the night they died. In the end, all three ghosts go with Diana and ... Show more content on

She and her father prove they are dynamic characters because they both thought of Diana as a
troublemaker and a monster at first, but now they think of her as a sweet, pretty, and shy girl. They
continue to progress that way of thinking throughout the story, and keep thinking the nice things.
Diana also begins to think of Lissa of a nice friend, rather than a snob like she thought in the
beginning. Therefore making them round characters.
The Old Willis Place, takes place on a farm, which is a common setting for many books. You are
told about this when Lissa writes in her diary, saying, "The first day we came to the farm, there was
people in the woods spying on us." (20) She and her father take care of the farm and live in a trailer.
They are one of many caretakers. Most of the caretakers left because Diana and Georgie steal things
from them, and haunt them. Diana and Georgie live in the woods, another part of the setting, "I
slipped into the woods to find my brother." (8) They live in the woods, which is another setting.
These two quotes in the book show that there is not only a setting, but a common setting.
The book The Old Willis Place is believable because there is round characters, dynamic characters,
and a common setting. You would want to read this book because it has an important message
inside. The message is to always follow the rules, and if you don't bad things will happen. It teaches
you why

Symbolism In The Ghost Of Crutchfield Hall By Mary Downing...
Chapter Draft– Sophia VS Florence Florence the protagonist and Sophia the antagonist, they are the
complete opposite. The way they act, the actions they make are nothing like each others. When
looking at Florence I see a nice and friendly girl who is easy to get along with, but when I look at
Sophia I see somebody who would try to avoid you when you walk towards them. The reason I
know the author Mary Downing Hahn does this in her stories is because their actions bounce off
each other and creates suspense that makes you want to keep reading. When this happens you
continue to read and think about why the author may have done this. The author makes you think
about why Sophia and Florence are always taking the opposite sides and when you put ... Show

She was already dead, how come when James pushed her off the roof she never came back? You
can't die 2 times. The first time that she fell off the roof she didn't actually die. After her "death" she
kept coming back, causing trouble. Uncle and aunt kept repeating to James and Florence that there
are no such things as ghosts and Sophia was getting mad at that. She was getting madder and
madder each time they would say that. She would not leave until people came to think that she was
actually still there. Once uncle and aunt believed that she was real James, Florence, and Sophia went
up to the roof. On the roof, Sophia wanted nothing to do with James or Florence. All she wanted was
James to walk across the roof. Sophia grabbed James and pulled him towards the edge of the roof.
James fought off Sophia and pushed her off the roof. Once James walked across the roof Sophia
never came back again. The real death of Sophia happened when she realized that she was really
supposed to die not James. Sophia made everybody feel tense and once she finally left a weight had
been lifted off everyone's shoulders. James finally came downstairs and Florence ate dinner with
everybody. Sophia leaving was a turning point for the whole family and ultimately brought them

Mary Downing Hahn's Anna On The Farm
Mary Downing Hahn is considered one of the most famous authors for young readers. Born on
December 9, 1937, Hahn has had over more than 20 award winning books. Hahn went to the
University of Maryland, and afterwards, she became an art teacher at a junior high school. Most of
Hahn's book stories relate back to her younger days as a child as World War 1 and 2 went on. Hahn,
a child who was born and raised in Maryland, did not have such an easy childhood as you can tell by
most her stories that described it. One of her most popular books, Anna on the Farm, was based on
her life heavily. Another one of her stories, Anna All Year Round, was also heavily based on her life.
Hahn, a former children's librarian, was always into writing ... Show more content on

Her mother was a former elementary teacher, and her father was an automobile mechanic in
Washington D.C. Due to her parents always working as she was really young, her grandmother had
to take care of Hahn as she was young. Hahn's grandmother was not the nicest woman to get along
with as she had a medical illness. She usually frightened and worried Hahn as she was a child.
Hahn's grandmother disliked a lot of her family and accused others of stealing and such and gave
Hahn a troubled childhood, as she expresses in some of her stories such as Stepping on Cracks and
her Anna on the Farm stories. Hahn tried to avoid her mean grandmother by always playing outside
and such. Eventually, Hahn's grandmother died, and Hahn remembers feeling extremely guilty.
Those later feelings would be channeled into her work, to make her characters in her stories feel and
seem more believable and human. Mary Downing Hahn went to College Park Elementary School.
Hahn had gone to some other elementary school but had mumps and unfortunately had to leave.
Hahn eventually found success at this new school. She soon entered Northwestern High School
where her grades dropped down a bit due to day dreaming. She soon graduated and eventually
married a law student named William Hahn and later on had two children and got a job as an art
teacher at some high school. As some marriages go, her and her husband filed a divorce. It caused

Mary Downing Hahn Character Analysis
The setting plays a big role in the book deep and dark and dangerous by Mary Downing Hahn. The
setting in the book allows you to feel the mood of the characters and reveals things about them as
well. In the book deep and dark and dangerous setting allows the reader to feel the mood of the
characters. For example on pages (129) and (130) the setting in the book was a gloomy, foggy and
and cold day right by the lake. Also when they were paddling threw the water Emma said "take me
home" , "I don't like the canoe any more. I don't like the fog. I want mommy." With this dialogue
and setting we as readers can really feel the mood of the characters because whenever it is cold and
and foggy and gloomy outside we usually feel sort of depressed and ... Show more content on

For example on page (123) the setting was in the graveyard. Since the setting was in the graveyard
and the angle with the sweatshirt was on the grave it revealed that Sissy is also Teresa and makes
you think why she put it there which than revealed that she is in fact an ghost later on. This part
makes me feel really funny and shocked in a way because of the setting and mood we can feel for
the characters. I felt funny and shocked because I know this is not right and does not happen very
often. The note really tied everything together because why would a bunch of teens right that they
are watching someone and they should tell the truth or else. I did not believe that the teens would
write this so that is why it made me feel the way it did. Also on pages (7) and (8) Ali walks into her
living room in the summer and finds that Dulcie and Emma are in the room waiting for her. This
setting also brings mood because since Dulcie,Emma and Ali did not see each other in a while, we
can feel the mood through the setting. The mood we can feel in this setting is probably excitement
and happiness because they did not see each other in a while and they are really happy to see each
other. This part of the book for me brought pretty much the only happiness because the rest of the
way it was a lot of drama, excitement, shock and scariness. As readers it is important for us to notice
the setting in the book because it can tell us

The Doll In The Garden By Mary Downing Hahn
Ever since a young age, my attention span always failed me. Here and there I'd find myself starting
things and eventually failing to finish them, disappointing, not only myself but my parents as well.
To find anything interesting and worth my time stood as something heavily difficult for myself, even
now in my teen years. In actuality, I found it crazy dissatisfying to sit around all the time, I
extensively despised it, but never had I been able to find something to occupy my time. Of course
that was until I picked up The Doll In the Garden By Mary Downing Hahn. I became crazy about
horror stories, ghost stories, or anything of the genre. The thrill and discomfort I received from the
chilling and horrifying details from such simple words drove

she is hanging out with her Aunt Dulcie and cousin Emma. The story starts out when Ali goes to
read her mom's book. She opens a page and a picture falls out. The picture is her mom, aunt, and
another girl. On the back of the photo her grandmother wrote their names but the other girl's name
was torn off. The first letter of her name was T. It was a mystery to Ali, so she went downstairs to
ask her mom who T was, but she had no clue. A few hours later her aunt showed up and asked her if
she wanted to go to Maine to go to the lake. While Dulcie was

Literary Analysis: Chang's 'Revolution is Not a Dinner...
When writing a book, an author would generally include some kind of conflict or stress situation to
show how a character reacts to such events and grows as a result. The books Revolution is not a
Dinner Party by Hing Chang Compestine and Deep and Dark and Dangerous by Mary Downing
Hahn are no exception to this. When comparing these two books, the reader can come to some
interesting conclusions about the similarities and differences when considering the characters, time
setting, and conflict situations within the book. Both Compestine and Hahn's works contain young
characters and are presumably written for young readers. The main character in Compestine's book
is Ling, a young Chinese girl who is nine years old. She lives a relatively comfortable life with her
parents, who are both employed at the best local hospital. Her mother is a doctor of traditional
Chinese medicine, while the father is a surgeon. Ali is the main character in Hahn's book. She is a
young American girl, who remains 13 throughout the book. Like Ling, she is also an only child who
lives in physical comfort with both her parents. The main difference between the characters is that
Ling is quite a lot younger than Ali, while they are also from different ethnic group. Ling, however,
considers the United States and English as symbolic of freedom, education, and sophistication. It is
unlikely that Ali attaches the same meanings to her own heritage as an American. There is a major
difference between the time

Analysis Of The Book Hear The Wind Blow
Imagine becoming an orphan at the age of thirteen, having to take care of your seven–year old sister
with an older brother fighting in the war. Haswell Magruder experiences these hardships, along with
starvation, arrest, and figuring out how he will make due without a parental figure around. The novel
Hear the Wind Blow, is an interesting story that vividly describes every event to the reader,
accurately informs them of the troubles many people endured during the Civil War, and constantly
keeps them on the edge of their seats. The author, Mary Downing Hahn provides a peek into the
world not only through words but through an actual map of Virginia, where the events take
place. While the map was very helpful, the words in the book still express dramatic feelings, actions,
and words of the characters in this "fast–paced compelling read." Especially in the gory parts of the
story were these emotions and descriptions truly vivid in my mind. For example, after the Union
army stormed into the Magruder's house, Haswell's mother was taken upstairs by Captain Powell.
When Haswell and his sister, Rachel heard a gunshot and saw their mother stroll out of the room
covered in blood, they knew she killed him. Haswell eventually had to go upstairs to investigate the
scene and hide the body from the Captain's men. While he did this, he described that the Captain's
"blood soaked the sheets and quilts and pillows with crimson. His one remaining eye glared at me in
fury."(Hahn 44) Haswell,

A Good Teacher As A Teacher

  • 1. A Good Teacher As A Teacher A great teacher like Mrs. Lee does not just teach students but has the remarkable ability to change a student's way of learning. School has always been important to me and I have been lucky enough to have had some very good teachers along the way. The perquisite for me having all those good teachers is I always knew what I wanted to do with my life. As a student, it was advantageous to have a teacher that can have such an impact on me. Mrs. Lee was my eight grade English Teacher. She was a powerful influencer for me because her style of teaching turned learning into an enjoyment. Mrs. Lee made learning very feasible. An example of this is I had often spent hours deliberating over homework and still felt utterly clueless. She had influenced me to not stop at a barrier but, to overcome it to the best of my ability. Often, I felt as if Mrs. Lee was the little voice in my head chanting me on to the finish line. She cared about each of her students as individuals. Just like a parent, she would constantly express words of gratitude. She would come in early or stay after school. I would come in regularly in the morning, to which I remembered the smell of warm coffee and sweet peppermints. Even the smell of her eloquent perfume was comforting to me. Mrs. Lee wanted all her students to succeed, not to just be successful in her class but in the future. Mrs. Lee had an uncanny philosophy for teaching. I have always excelled in math and science because those classes are appealing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Mary Downing Hahn Research Paper Mary Downing Hahn Mary Downing Hahn was born in College Park, Maryland on December 9,1937. When she was a little kid both of her parents were working. She was left to stay with her grandmother, who lived with them, at home while her parents worked. This wasn't a great situation like it would be for other family's because Mary's grandmother had a mental illness. Mary never liked her grandma because the illness caused her to be mean to Mary. When Mary got a little older she went outside to play more to try to get away from her grandma. The neighborhood she grew up in was full of kids her age, so she had plenty of people to play with. While Mary was young she hated writing, but yet loved telling stories by drawing pictures. Of course, it was time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Importance Of Reading Books Have you ever been lucky enough to have a best friend that is your personal educational inspiration? When I was younger, I had a best friend that loved to read. She would have multiple books that she was reading at once and I would always make fun of her for reading so many books. She would just come back with some witty remark about how reading is good for your mind. I was about eight years old when she would say these things to me. I would just brush it off and think "oh whatever, I don't need to read books to help my learning abilities". One day when I was about ten years old, my school hosted a book fair. The school had these fairs every year and yet I would never get a book. This year my friend had been talking in my ear all week about getting a book that I would enjoy. I did not want to read anything but my friend begged me to try it so I went home that night and asked my mom for some money for a book. Of course my mom happily gave me some. My friend and I went to the book fair the next day and searched for a very long time. We could not find a book for me for what seemed liked forever. Finally after searching for awhiler, we stumbled upon the thriller section. Now that was my cup of tea. I loved horror movies so maybe I would also enjoy reading a horror book. Instead of reading the books jacket summary to see if they sounded good or not, I would just searched for a book that had an appealing cover to it. I picked a book out that had a lady who looked like a ghost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Summary Of Closed For The Season And The Dead Man In... Mary Downing Hahn has written over 20 books of many genres. She writes ghost, historical fiction, and mystery books. Amazingly, she had a stroke at age 44 and has made a comeback. She is now 79 and has two kids. Dead man in Indian Creek is a drug related murder. It shows Matt Armentrout and his best friend Parker Pettingill finding out about a drug deal in Woodcroft. Next, they find out that Parker's mom, Pam, and her girlfriend, George Evans, are selling cocaine to a man named Flynn. In Closed for the Season, Logan Forbes moves to the suburbs of Richmond and meet a kid named Arthur Jenkins. He finds out that the previous owner of the house, Mrs. Donaldson, was murdered and he wants to find out why and who. Overall the characters, themes, settings and conflicts are fairly similar throughout the two books. In Closed for the Season and The Dead Man in Indian Creek, the characters are similar in personality and their relationships with others. In The Dead Man in Indian Creek, Matt is always being outshined by his best friend. He loves having parker around, but his parents don't think the same thing. They think Parker is a bad influence on a good kid like Matt. On page 33, Matt's dad says "'That boy has always been a bad influence on you,'" and "'[Parker has] never been anything but a bad influence on you.'" A similar thing happens in Closed for the Season when Logan's mom gets a call from Nina on pages 100–101. Logan's mom says "'Arthur is off limits,'" making Logan really ... • 17. Analysis Of Shakespeare 's ' Romeo And Juliet ' Traditional Criticism: a. Plot: This is a progressive plot where the exposition of the characters, setting, and conflict are introduced in the beginning. Then, the story line builds with ideas foreshadowing Sophia death. Florence's daily encounters and different relationships with every character in the story continue to lead the reader to the climax. After the climax, the story ends, almost happily ever after; however, it does leave the reader unsure if Sophia is finally restful in her grave or will continue to haunt James and Florence. b. Characters: In the beginning, Florence is as orphan who is accustomed to minimal possessions. She is brought in by her great uncle and aunt who are wealthy with servants. Her personality does not change throughout the story. She is always kind to the servants and respectful to her to caring uncle and unpleasant aunt. The only time Florence's personally changes is when Sophia is controlling her actions and words. For example, she tells at Nellie to leave her room. Then, when Sophia is not around, Florence apologizes for her words to Nellie. She was always frightened when she was alone and Sophia appears, even at the end of the story, when she just wants to leave her gravestone. c. Setting: The integral setting of this story takes place in London in 1884. The seasons changes three times throughout the book. First, when Florence arrives at Crutchfield Hall it is raining and cold, fall. Then, Florence sees snow from her window and makes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. We All Looked Up By Tommy Wallach In this paper I will talk about myself and how much I enjoy literature. I enjoy English. It makes me feel smart and it makes me dig a little deeper. Certain books make students think, make the students do research, make students find the deeper meaning. English expands teens vocabulary. This subject just makes kids and teens want to learn more about literature. Starting with my favorite types of books I enjoy mystery thrillers and sad stories. These kinds of books help me relate to my dramatic interpretation in my debate class. The book that has impacted me the most is "We All Looked Up" by Tommy Wallach, I have chosen this book, because it teaches people mainly teens how to live their life to the fullest and appreciate what they have. This book is about all these teenagers that have 2 months to really live their life before this giant asteroid comes and destroys planet earth. The book also has some love triangles and secret relationships; therefore, it could also be classified as a romance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book is about a teenage couple that creates a hate list, because they were both bullied; therefore, they created a hate list and put all the people they hated or had done them wrong on that list. This directly can relate this to a real life event, which is the Columbine Killers, this horrific event occurred on April 20,1999. What had happened in the Columbine High School was a couple of out casted kids that had been bullied by several classmates so they decided to take revenge, like the couple in "The Hate List". They had a killing spree in their high school, killing 12 students including 1 teacher, injuring 23 some in critical condition. The boys later killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Analysis Of Time For Andrew: A Ghost Story "Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course, they actually become the person they seem." This quote said by W. Somerset Maugham claims that people are not what they may seem like, but their true characteristic will show eventually, just like in the book Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story a mystery book by Mary Downing Hahn. In the beginning of the story, Andrew, or Drew as his friends called him, went to visit his aunt in the forest for the summer. They later found out that the attic was filled with pictures and items from the family that lived in that house before them. "Holding my breath I untied the knot and tipped the pouch. A stream of marbles poured out, nudging and bumping one another, overflowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in the night, the boy that the bag belonged to, Andrew appeared in Drew's room. He looked pale from diphtheria. " Andrew exclaimed. Have you no brains? We're alike as two peas in a pod. All we need to do is switch places. I'll get in bed. You go up to the attic and hide"(39). Drew and Andrew were exactly alike. They were the same age, and they looked the exact same, they only difference is that Andrew was dead. When Andrew told drew he had diphtheria, they agreed to switch places, so that Andrew can get help from a doctor. When Andrew told Drew to hide in the attic, Drew realizes that Andrew tricked him. Andrew knew that if they switched places, Drew will live in Andrew's world, and Andrew would live in Drew's world. This shows that people are not what they might seem like. One can make a connection between this story and the real world because in this story, the character soon realizes that people are not what they seem like. In the real world, one can learn that people can always trick you into doing something, just like in the book. From reading this book, the reader can learn that some people will trick you, and some people will not be what you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. What Is The Climax Of The Old Willis Place Could you be friends with a ghost? You journey through this question with Mary Downing Hahn's book, "The Old Willis Place." In The Old Willis Place, two children, Diana and Georgie live together on a farm with a abandoned house. The farm has caretakers that don't take care of the farm at all. Though Diana and Georgie are bound by "the rules" Diana talks to the caretaker's daughter, Lissa. The two become best friends. But one day, when the two venture into the old house, Lissa lets out Ms. Lillian's ghost, who despises, and had killed Diana and Georgie decades ago. Late one night, Ms. Lillian finds Diana and Georgie. The two find out the truth about what really happened the night they died. In the end, all three ghosts go with Diana and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She and her father prove they are dynamic characters because they both thought of Diana as a troublemaker and a monster at first, but now they think of her as a sweet, pretty, and shy girl. They continue to progress that way of thinking throughout the story, and keep thinking the nice things. Diana also begins to think of Lissa of a nice friend, rather than a snob like she thought in the beginning. Therefore making them round characters. The Old Willis Place, takes place on a farm, which is a common setting for many books. You are told about this when Lissa writes in her diary, saying, "The first day we came to the farm, there was people in the woods spying on us." (20) She and her father take care of the farm and live in a trailer. They are one of many caretakers. Most of the caretakers left because Diana and Georgie steal things from them, and haunt them. Diana and Georgie live in the woods, another part of the setting, "I slipped into the woods to find my brother." (8) They live in the woods, which is another setting. These two quotes in the book show that there is not only a setting, but a common setting. The book The Old Willis Place is believable because there is round characters, dynamic characters, and a common setting. You would want to read this book because it has an important message inside. The message is to always follow the rules, and if you don't bad things will happen. It teaches you why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Symbolism In The Ghost Of Crutchfield Hall By Mary Downing... Chapter Draft– Sophia VS Florence Florence the protagonist and Sophia the antagonist, they are the complete opposite. The way they act, the actions they make are nothing like each others. When looking at Florence I see a nice and friendly girl who is easy to get along with, but when I look at Sophia I see somebody who would try to avoid you when you walk towards them. The reason I know the author Mary Downing Hahn does this in her stories is because their actions bounce off each other and creates suspense that makes you want to keep reading. When this happens you continue to read and think about why the author may have done this. The author makes you think about why Sophia and Florence are always taking the opposite sides and when you put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was getting madder and madder each time they would say that. She would not leave until people came to think that she was actually still there. Once uncle and aunt believed that she was real James, Florence, and Sophia went up to the roof. On the roof, Sophia wanted nothing to do with James or Florence. All she wanted was James to walk across the roof. Sophia grabbed James and pulled him towards the edge of the roof. James fought off Sophia and pushed her off the roof. Once James walked across the roof Sophia never came back again. The real death of Sophia happened when she realized that she was really supposed to die not James. • 37. Mary Downing Hahn's Anna On The Farm Mary Downing Hahn is considered one of the most famous authors for young readers. Born on December 9, 1937, Hahn has had over more than 20 award winning books. Hahn went to the University of Maryland, and afterwards, she became an art teacher at a junior high school. Most of Hahn's book stories relate back to her younger days as a child as World War 1 and 2 went on. Hahn, a child who was born and raised in Maryland, did not have such an easy childhood as you can tell by most her stories that described it. One of her most popular books, Anna on the Farm, was based on her life heavily. Another one of her stories, Anna All Year Round, was also heavily based on her life. Hahn, a former children's librarian, was always into writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her mother was a former elementary teacher, and her father was an automobile mechanic in Washington D.C. Due to her parents always working as she was really young, her grandmother had to take care of Hahn as she was young. Hahn's grandmother was not the nicest woman to get along with as she had a medical illness. She usually frightened and worried Hahn as she was a child. Hahn's grandmother disliked a lot of her family and accused others of stealing and such and gave Hahn a troubled childhood, as she expresses in some of her stories such as Stepping on Cracks and her Anna on the Farm stories. Hahn tried to avoid her mean grandmother by always playing outside and such. Eventually, Hahn's grandmother died, and Hahn remembers feeling extremely guilty. Those later feelings would be channeled into her work, to make her characters in her stories feel and seem more believable and human. Mary Downing Hahn went to College Park Elementary School. Hahn had gone to some other elementary school but had mumps and unfortunately had to leave. Hahn eventually found success at this new school. She soon entered Northwestern High School where her grades dropped down a bit due to day dreaming. She soon graduated and eventually married a law student named William Hahn and later on had two children and got a job as an art teacher at some high school. • 45. Mary Downing Hahn Character Analysis The setting plays a big role in the book deep and dark and dangerous by Mary Downing Hahn. The setting in the book allows you to feel the mood of the characters and reveals things about them as well. In the book deep and dark and dangerous setting allows the reader to feel the mood of the characters. For example on pages (129) and (130) the setting in the book was a gloomy, foggy and and cold day right by the lake. Also when they were paddling threw the water Emma said "take me home" , "I don't like the canoe any more. I don't like the fog. I want mommy." With this dialogue and setting we as readers can really feel the mood of the characters because whenever it is cold and and foggy and gloomy outside we usually feel sort of depressed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example on page (123) the setting was in the graveyard. Since the setting was in the graveyard and the angle with the sweatshirt was on the grave it revealed that Sissy is also Teresa and makes you think why she put it there which than revealed that she is in fact an ghost later on. This part makes me feel really funny and shocked in a way because of the setting and mood we can feel for the characters. I felt funny and shocked because I know this is not right and does not happen very often. The note really tied everything together because why would a bunch of teens right that they are watching someone and they should tell the truth or else. I did not believe that the teens would write this so that is why it made me feel the way it did. Also on pages (7) and (8) Ali walks into her living room in the summer and finds that Dulcie and Emma are in the room waiting for her. This setting also brings mood because since Dulcie,Emma and Ali did not see each other in a while, we can feel the mood through the setting. The mood we can feel in this setting is probably excitement and happiness because they did not see each other in a while and they are really happy to see each other. This part of the book for me brought pretty much the only happiness because the rest of the way it was a lot of drama, excitement, shock and scariness. As readers it is important for us to notice the setting in the book because it can tell us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here and there I'd find myself starting things and eventually failing to finish them, disappointing, not only myself but my parents as well. To find anything interesting and worth my time stood as something heavily difficult for myself, even now in my teen years. In actuality, I found it crazy dissatisfying to sit around all the time, I extensively despised it, but never had I been able to find something to occupy my time. • 57. Literary Analysis: Chang's 'Revolution is Not a Dinner... When writing a book, an author would generally include some kind of conflict or stress situation to show how a character reacts to such events and grows as a result. The books Revolution is not a Dinner Party by Hing Chang Compestine and Deep and Dark and Dangerous by Mary Downing Hahn are no exception to this. When comparing these two books, the reader can come to some interesting conclusions about the similarities and differences when considering the characters, time setting, and conflict situations within the book. Both Compestine and Hahn's works contain young characters and are presumably written for young readers. The main character in Compestine's book is Ling, a young Chinese girl who is nine years old. She lives a relatively comfortable life with her parents, who are both employed at the best local hospital. Her mother is a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, while the father is a surgeon.
