The members of the Duke Lacrosse team did not have much support from the faculty as the
accusations were the headliners for many major media outlets. The impact of these allegations by
the Duke Lacrosse team was tremendous. The President of the University Richard Brodhead
canceled the entire season and called the situation "sickening and repulsive" (Jennings, 2009, p.
568). Once again the support from the highest level at Duke University was not there for the three
members of the lacrosse team at the center of the allegations. The African American accuser Crystal
Mangum had support from the NAACP, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and the Durham County District
Attorney Mike Nifong. The coach of the team also resigned from his job as the season was canceled.
Mr. Nifong from the beginning of the investigation seemed to have his mind set on convicting these
white males of the allegations they faced from the accuser. The unethical manner in which Mike
Nifong proceeded in the investigation tested the judicial system. The tactics that were used in the
case undermined that you are innocent until proven guilty. A Duke was facing a crisis little did the
judicial system in North Carolina know that they were about to have their work cut out for them as
Mr. Nifong continued his journey to find these three lacrosse players guilty. According to

Summary Of The Reclaiming The American Dream Report
In the Reclaiming the American Dream report (AACC, 2012), seven recommendations were
suggested to meet the needs of the students, as well as having a strong community college system.
Hence, these recommendation address redesigning students' educational experiences, reinventing
institutional roles, and resetting the system to create incentives for students and institutional
triumphs.
Recommendation One A section of recommendation one is to "increase completion rates of students
earning community college credentials (certificates and associate degrees) by fifty percent by 2020."
(AACC, 2012 p. 26). Although recommendation one is certainly obtainable, completing the goal by
2020 is doubtful. As an administrator, in order to see a goal this large come to manifestation,
everyone has to get on the bus, and asking the same question "who" instead of "what" – then, and
only then will a goal this large will manifest ( Collins, 2001). However, utilizing particular strategies
to accomplish the goal will help toward achieving the goal. In doing that, students would be served
more effectively and more efficiently, because staff and faculty would be more intentional regarding
the service rendered. Affective academic advising is an essential and sure way to promote students'
retention (O'Banion, 1997). In addition, using strategies to construct coherent, structured pathways
to complete degrees, promote transfers from community colleges to four year institutions, and to
assist students

Kay Hagan Strengths And Weaknesses
After a devastating loss to republican nominee Thom Tillis, Kay Hagan has remained dedicated to
aiding the people of North Carolina. Regardless of her defeat for a seat in the Senate, she has
refused to stop working on making improvements for her state and has made sure to communicate
the following message to her supporters, "This campaign has ended, but our work to improve the
lives of North Carolinians and to build an economy that works for everyone isn't over"
(nationaljournal.com). Without a doubt, Kay has put people over politics by planning to continue to
work on the issues she has focused on during her campaign. As a part of the Democratic party, Kay
has concentrated on issues regarding education, military and veterans, women and families, ... Show

It is obvious that she chose the right issue to focus on during her campaign because people are
always looking to grow financially in order to secure their survival in America. The intelligent part
of Kay Hagan's plan is that she has come up with solutions that target both employees and
employers. For instance, by defending the raising of the minimum wage and equal pay for women,
she speaks to the middle class people who work hard daily and wouldn't mind having more money
in their pockets. Also, by coming up with the bipartisan plan, she is captivating the attention of the
many employers who are looking for people with specific job skills. Even though Kay did not make
it to the senate this year, her plan would definitely create new jobs, provide people with more funds,
and allow employers to succeed in business with the help of properly trained employees. Most
importantly, her plan would do all of this without the need of billions of dollars and would only
require changes that would make the economy a stronger

Lavender Housing Research Paper
A current issue that that has affected higher education is lavender housing for first year students.
This topics has affected higher education, because a lot of students and professionals are not trans–
knowledgeable, and they don't understand bigendered, cross living, gender binary system, and
dominate culture. In the state of North Carolina there are only a few schools with lavender housing,
Guilford College, Warren Wilson College, and recently Duke University. Even though, these schools
offer lavender housing, they are still segregating members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Asexual or Ally (LGBTQA) community.

When I President of the Residence Hall Association at North Carolina Central University, there was
a student that was transitioning from a male to a female that identified as, she. She felt that she
could use the restrooms on the female floor. This was an issue because she was still identified as, he,
on her driver's license. She approached me and said "Can you help me I feel, hated, mistreated,
alone, and scared", the only thing I could tell her was, " I can see if we have space available for a
single room with a restroom included". That hurt me because I was in this leadership position,
representing residence life, and we didn't even have a gender–neutral restroom for a soon to be
transgender to take a shower in peacefully. Unfortunately, that student moved off campus, and had
to pay a housing termination fee, and that was one less student in a room. I want to be that young
student affairs professional that anybody can talk to; I also want to make sure we have facilities on
campus that cater to the LGBTQ community. If there isn't a lavender housing LLC on campus, lets
start one. We can start by putting adapting a lavender housing floor LLC, then moving towards a

My Dreams Of African American Dreams
Admiration, reverence, and sincere appreciation are all the feelings I've felt for my African
American ancestors who were the first in our race to achieve their dreams. Most people are familiar
with the story of Jackie Robinson as he was the first African American person to play major league
baseball. Others know the story of Shirley Chisholm. She was the first African American women
elected to Congress and the first to run for President of the United States. Even fewer people have
heard of Sarah Tanner Mossell Alexander, she was the first African American women to receive her
Doctorate in Philosophy.
As a lover of history, I always find joy in learning the unknown stories of my ancestors. Stories like
Alexander's showcase both remarkable achievement and tremendous resiliency. Alexander had to
triumph over racial and gender inequality, layers of systematic oppression, and countless unknown
obstacles to reach her ambitious goal, but nonetheless, she achieved. Hearing untold stories of those
who were the first gives me motivation to do the same.
Like Alexander, Chisholm, and Robinson, I too, am the first in my family to accomplish a large
goal. While I did not make "first" history like my ancestors, I conquered a tremendous personal
obstacle. I became the first person in my family to attend college. I navigated growing up in a single
parent and low income household to attend North Carolina State University. Through the help of
many personal and professional resources, I also

To explore an even bigger spectrum, third world countries such as Africa also includes some of
these factors in giving health care. Health care involves many factors when it comes to rural areas
because of the differences among people. To consider these factors, in conclusion, it contains
solutions on addressing these factors, such as educating the public. 3 Introduction Everyone
deserves quality health care, whether you live in an urban setting or a rural. For those that live in a
rural area, there are many factors that could play a role in health care. Rural areas are places that are
located outside of a city or town. "Only about ten percent of physicians practice in rural America
despite the fact that nearly one–fourth of the population lives in these areas" (National Rural Health
Association). These country–like places lack health care. Some examples could be Molokai as a
rural island of Hawaii, or North Carolina in the United States, and of course third world countries
such as Africa. Depending on the situation and culture of each specific area, factors may vary. The
most important basic factors to consider while giving health care in a rural area are living
conditions, economic situations, transportation, and religious views. Factors Living Conditions
Rural areas are considered "country" and usually don't have the resources that cities and towns
contain. Living conditions can reach extreme measures. In some rural areas, they

The No Child Left Behind Act
Many stakeholders' in public education are seeking solutions to produce high achieving students
who graduate ready to embrace technological challenges. One solution for many stakeholders'
seems to be high stakes testing. High stakes testing is an educational reform where decisions are
based on individual student performance, teacher performance, and school performance. The tests
are usually performed as an end of course or end of grade assessment after completion of the
curriculum. The No Child Left Behind Act or NCLB signed by President Bush in 2001 was
mandated to improve student performances and remove inequalities among diverse student
populations. This Act required states to design and develop programs that employed test– based ...

The testing at Highlander Academy requires that all students in grade levels 3rd to 10th grade to
complete quarterly testing. The school utilizes the ACT Aspire software program to monitor student
progress. The use of ACT provides benchmarks for college and career readiness. Testing is inclusive
of courses in English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science. The data obtained on each student is
used by the teacher and the school to determine progressive readiness in preparation for end of
course, EOC and end of grade, EOG tests. In compliance with the state and federal levels all
Highlander students in grades three to eighth grade complete an end of grade tests in Mathematics
and English Language Arts. The testing for third grade to eighth grade is general and specific to the
course of study for the grade level while high school grades are grouped in sets for grades nine
through ten and grades eleven through twelve. High school students are required to take EOC
testing in Math 1, Biology, and English Language Arts 2. Math 1 is usually taken during the students
ninth grade year. The EOC assessment for Biology is given during student's tenth grade. Last, the
English Language Arts 2 assessment occurs during the student's tenth grade year. These tests may
require repeating if the student fails to pass the course the first time. However, while testing is

Iranian High School Differences Of The United States
Iranian high School Differences
In the United States, Americans often talk about how important it is to have an education. Without
having a high school diploma in the United States, adults would not be able to enter in the
workforce easily, enroll in college and enlist in the Army. Adolescents in different locations of the
world do not get to choose what they want to do in the future. Some countries have to earn their
high school diplomas by passing numerous tests. There some countries in the world that have to
take an examination before they enter into high school. If they enter in a good high school, it can
also lead them to have a better life for themselves. Teenagers never understand what it would be like
to live in a place that education that students had to study repeatedly during the holidays or
vacations. Some Americans do not value how can you get an education for freedom and students are
not being discriminated by their race, religion or gender. The difference of the school calendar,
mandatory classes that student have to take, competitive entrance exams that help the students and
the grading system defines the difference of North Carolina High School and high school in Iran.
Every country in the world has a different Academic calendar. Iranian schools operate from
Saturday to Thursday and have 200 days of school. In Ashe County, there is one hundred eighty
days of school that operated from Monday to Friday. Ashe County usually start on the second week

LGBTQ Argument Essay
The LGBTQ community has been advocating changes in systems and processes. Most of them
coming from the treatment and equality in the workplace and environment they are in.
The LGBTQ made it to the news several times in 2016. Gay and transgender rights seem to be the
topic of each issue in the news and social media. But there are still issues that needed to be
addressed.
Today, LGBTQ still face discrimination especially in employment and education, as reported by
NBC News. Regardless, there are groups fighting to change the laws and policies in order to protect
the LGBTQ.
In the face of violence and discrimination, the LGBTQ community was able to shed light over
North Carolina's law restricting bathroom access for transgender people in government buildings
and various public schools. In March 2016, North Carolina was the only state to require transgender
individuals to use public restrooms that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2016, the use of bathrooms by the LGBTQ has been a recurring issue. Now, after the November
elections, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory has conceded and many are looking at a change in
the bill on public bathrooms.
Many hope that this will promote a better working and studying environment for many transgender
individuals in colleges, universities and workplaces. Although various concerns dictate the case of
privacy and security, the other side of the coin breathes the insensitivity and discrimination towards
the LGBTQ.
The film industry made it a point to shed light on LGBTQ, too. From "The Danish Girl," "Orange is
the New Black" to "The Imitation Game." These popular shows and movies detail the challenges
gays and transgenders go through and the roles they play. And many hope that these films and
shows can influence the acceptance of LGBTQ.
The question remains, what will 2017 hold for the

American Community Colleges And The American Association...
The American Community Colleges were established in the twentieth century to address the needs
of the workforce development (The American Association of Community College, 2015). Moreover,
skilled workers were critical to the economic growth and strength of America's society (American
Association of Community College, 2015). Although the community college's mission has not
changed, employment skills have changed. In order to yield tangible economic benefits to the
community, community colleges have to start to think more creatively (Rockefeller Institute of
Government, 2010). For over thirty years, community colleges has been the go–to reference for
their role in economic development and services rendered to the community (American Community
College, 2014). Because of the substantial need for industries to obtain and maintain skilled
workers, the community college system is pursuing strategies to help employers attract the preferred
worker. This is done through education, training, management counseling, and other initiatives
(Rockefeller Institute of Government, 2010). Consequently, knowledge is power; higher education's
primary role and contribution to economic development remains in its traditional obligation:
creating an educated society. In addition to that, the current economy has caused the conventional
academic mission to be extremely significant (Rockefeller Institute of Government, 2010). The
paradigm shift in the twenty–first century is more knowledge

Benefits Of A Small Business Center At Central Piedmont...
Five years from now I see myself running a small business. Background knowledge as well as
experience is needed to run a small business. To gain knowledge I will take advantage of the Small
Business Center at Central Piedmont Community College. The Small Business Center provides vast
resources and counseling at no cost. Counseling that is provided in the Small Business Center helps
with business planning, business growth, or cash flow management. For counseling I would have to
request counseling and wait 3 additional days to set an appointment. According to CNBC news the
best way to gain the experience is to learn all the operations that are required to successfully run a
small business by working in a small business. Also acquiring a mentor who has the experience
would be beneficial. Furthermore, talking to my future customers should provide background
knowledge about what products they want.
Because of the experience I have working in a beauty supply, I will start one. I have close to 9 years
of experience working in a beauty supply. I have skills to work the register, provide customer
service as well as stock inventory. To gain knowledge for running a small business I will need to
become an apprentice for my current boss or a business professional. This is beneficial for both me
and my boss. While I learn how to finance a business as well as business its self, my boss could take

My family has several values such as religion and education. Education is something my family has
valued for many years and this is because of my grandfather Bishop Leach Jr. Bishop Leach was
born on September 17, 1924. When he was a young child he joined Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church in
Pittsboro, NC. This church has been very important to my family because we have been attending
this church for generations. Bishop Leach attended and graduated from Horton High School, which
later became Horton Middle School. He graduated at the shocking age of 15. Bishop served in the
United States Army once he finished high school. After serving in the Army, he then attended North
Carolina College, now North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where he graduated within three
years and obtained his B.S degree in social studies in 1952. While in college, he married Myrtle
Alston. The couple were married for forty–nine years and had two sons Bishop Bernard Leach and
James Benjamin Leach.
Bishop's career in the Chatham County School System began as a teacher at Horton High School.
He taught there for many years and he touched a lot of people's lives to the point where they tell me
countless stories about him. After his tenure at Horton he got promoted to assistant principal at
Northwood High School after they integrated. He eventually retired from the Chatham County
School System after 33 years of dedicated service. Bishop also

Civil RIghts Floyd B McKissick
Olivia Powers
History 121: The Sixties
Professor David Sowell
November 30, 2013 Floyd B. McKissick Sr. was a veteran of World War II and a pioneer in the
integration of higher education in North Carolina. In the summer of 1951, he was admitted to the
University of North Carolina, becoming one of the first African American students to attend UNC
Law School. While being a key participant in the integration of UNC law school, McKissick also
took on leadership positions in Civil Rights activists groups including CORE and NAACP.1 With a
strong religious foundation, he established a new type of community called Soul City. Soul City's
intended plan was to open up opportunity for minorities and the poor.2 He wanted to create a better

However, due to his race, the City Council denied him. This had not been the only problem of
discrimination he had faced. McKissick remembers, "There were many problems of segregation in
the city which we were regularly fighting every day, as it related to blacks in a southern city where
segregation was prevalent."9 McKissick continued to participate in protests such as the the Journey
of Reconciliation, an early freedom ride challenging segregation in interstate transportation, and
later in the desegregation of UNC Law School.10
In 1939, McKissick sought a degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.11 After a year in
Atlanta, McKissick went to work on a tobacco farm in Connecticut. "I worked around, during the
period of time... I was in and out of school depending upon the amount of money that it took to go
school" McKissick stated. 12 In 1945, he joined the U.S. Army and during World War II he served
in the European Theater as a sergeant.13 He came back from the war determined to end segregation
in North Carolina. "They [the soldiers] had seen the whole world, and they were not going to live in
a pattern of segregation as they had in the past" he stated.14
After coming out of the army, McKissick wrote a letter of application to the University of North
Carolina. Unfortunately he never received a reply. He knew he had been

The Effects Of A Developmental Boot Camp
This research study examines the effects of a developmental "boot–camp" on the standardized
placement test scores of students enrolling in a community college. A developmental boot–camp is
described as an online learning environment in which participants work at their own pace to refresh
and enhance their skills in math, English, and writing in order to increase their placement scores and
possibly place out of developmental community college classes. A community college in North
Carolina implemented a developmental tutoring course in an attempt to raise placement test scores
and place students into college–level courses (Hill, 2012, p. 2). The researcher proposed two
research questions, each with multiple hypothesis.
First, Heather Hill wanted to assess the effect of the developmental boot camp on the students'
performance on the ASSET placement test. She hypothesized that students completing the
developmental math numerical boot camp would score significantly higher on the ASSET
placement test than those who did not complete the developmental math numerical boot camp; the
students would score significantly higher on the ASSET placement test than those students not
completing the developmental math algebra boot camp; and those completing the developmental
English boot camp would score higher on the ASSET placement test than those who did not
complete the developmental English boot camp (3–4). The second research question focused on the
effect of the developmental

How Can We Raise Test Scores?
The question often raised in the education field is " How can we raise test scores?" Test . scores
have become the center of education. Everything done in the school system revolves around test
scores. The curriculums require kids to "learn" a variety of material and give teachers little time to
extensively teach a student leading to some kids falling behind. This affects students when the
necessary test such as the SAT and ACT spring up. Scoring well on the SAT or ACT has become the
standard for who colleges accept into their programs. In Caldwell County, test scores are dropping
but the graduation rate is rising. Caldwell County Schools have recorded higher graduation rates
than other counties in North Carolina. These graduation rates are coming at a price of higher
dropout rates and lower test scores. In order to solve this issue, Caldwell County should test less and
provide teachers and students with better work environments. These mediocre, high testing
environments promote high stress for students which in turn affects the learning process for
students. This cripples the major test's scores and reinforce the thought of dropping out for students.
However, cutting back on testing and allowing teachers to have a chance to rigorously teach a
subject would correct these problems. A big reason schools, especially in Caldwell County, don't
seem to notice these problems is for the reason that they are boasting numbers like graduation rates
and not test scores. Graduation is

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
INTRODUCTION The University of North Carolina Central is located in Durham, North Carolina.
The US National Library of Medicine National Institution of Heath states that in 2009 it was
reported that 65 Percent of HIV infected people receiving care had undetectable viral loads. There
were many reasons that prevented people from getting tested such stigma, fear, and denial of risk,
included costs, transportation, and low medical literacy (Bartlett, Kolman, & Proeschold, 2009). It is
important that students become aware of ones surroundings and learn how to protect themselves.

Exposure to drugs and alcohol directly increases the amount of risky sexual activity students engage
in, and the college environment provides an opportunity to have sexual encounters with multiple
partners, even in a casual context, often without condom use or other forms of contraception. These
students are at heightened risk for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies.
Research in this area has relied on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to identify beliefs and
attitudes that might predict sexual risk taking. However, the TPB model does not take into
consideration other factors that might influence sexual behaviors such as past sexual history, moral
beliefs, self–esteem, family expectation, and peer influence. College is a time for experimentation
and discovering the world around you. More importantly, it is when one discovers him or herself.
Being away from home is a new found freedom that most freshmen have not experienced before.
On college campuses and more specifically historically black institutions students are becoming a
victim of their own freedoms. Sexually transmitted infections are on the rise and education and
awareness is key in the fight against it. Without getting into religion or personal beliefs saying
someone has too much sex or other risky behaviors is hard to do, but limiting these behaviors as

The Fight for Racial Equality In North Carolina Essay
Plessy vs. Ferguson was a landmark decision passed in 1896 that instituted the practice of 'separate
but equal' in American society. The 'separate but equal' doctrine was an oppressive system of racial
segregation which greatly lessened the rights of all minorities especially in public education. The
fight for educational equality made public schools in North Carolina and other states in the south a
major area of conflict. Wilma Peebles–Wilkins noted, 'Upward mobility through the educational
structure is in keeping with the desires of post–World War II black Americans to enhance their
economic, political, and social statuses.' There were many court cases in which organizations such

There was a great effort in North Carolina to halt integration. In 1955, Governor Luther H. Hodges
reported to the North Carolina General Assembly that ?The mixing of the races forthwith in the
public schools throughout the state cannot be accomplished and should not be permitted.? In 1955
the Pupil Assignment Act was passed which ?condemned and protested the Brown decision? . The
Pupil Assignment Act was the first of many attempts of the North Carolina Legislature to halt
integration. This act authorized local schools to implement administrative procedures regarding
school transfers and reassignment request. This attempt was viewed by many citizens as a means to
implement token integration. On September 2, 1957 the first public school integration in North
Carolina took place in Greensboro. According to Clarence Dean of the New York Times, ?The group
comprises one senior high school girl, three junior high school boys and on boy and one girl in
elementary school.? Some citizens according to Dean praised the action of the city of Greensboro as
a ?sincere, although cautious, effort to begin general integration.? However, others regarded the
action of the Greensboro and other cities as ?nothing more than a device? to implement token
integration. Kelley M. Alexander noted that ?The number of pupils accepted had been far less than
the number who had applied.? The Charlotte–Mecklenburg Board of Education

Florida Vs. North Carolina
Florida vs. North Carolina Legislature Comparison Paper
I chose these two states to compare because they are the states I have lived in throughout my life
and are significant to me. I was born in Wilmington, North Carolina and lived there until I was 10
years old. My step–father received a job offer in Islamorada, Florida and we decided to move. I
lived there until I graduated high school, following which I came to Orlando to go to college.
Elections are a major aspect of the State Government, with new representatives of the elections
board being elected every four years in North Carolina and eight years in Florida. As far as impact
on term limits, there's not a problem with having no limit on terms in Florida because if the
representative is doing a good job then it would be acceptable to have them stay in office.
Corruption or abuse of power aren't nearly as big of issues because the power of State legislatures
lacks severely in comparison to federal power, so typically corrupt officials wouldn't want to stay in
the state department. The Florida Department of State's Division of Elections provides
administrative help to the Secretary of State, Florida's Chief Election Officer, to ensure that Florida
has just, prompt, and accurate elections. There is also a Director's office whose mission is to provide
statewide coordination and direction for the interpretation and enforcement of election laws, and to
provide supervision to the Bureaus in the Division. The Division is made

Comparing Germany 's Education System
In comparing and contrasting Germany's Education System to the U.S Education System, one would
find both similarities and differences; however, one enormous difference is that tuition is free to the
students in the Germany's Public School System and higher educational institutions (Flippo, 1996).
More importantly, Parks (2014) explained, that if an American wanted to be educated in Germany,
the tuition would be free, but in order to obtain a bachelor's degree in Germany, the American
student would have to be knowledgeable enough to comprehend the German language, and having
an equivalent educational background of a German Abitur ( e.g., university entry qualification) is
required. To the American, this could be equal to the Advance Placement courses in the U.S. Based
on research, Germany does not claim to have a "community college system" as do the U.S. (S.
Caison personal communication, June 25, 2015). Nevertheless, the counterpart would be that of a
German Facshule (e.g. technical) type college that focuses on Applied Science Degrees. It is
different from the Germany's traditional universities, because of its practical application that is
parallel to the U.S. Applied Associate Science Degree Program in the community college's system
(S. Caison personal communication, June 25, 2015). Moreover, in some German States, thirteen
years are incorporated in the public schools that is an alternative to the twelves years that is
normally implemented. In addition to that,

The Affordable Care Act Is Necessary For Successful...
Introduction The Affordable Care Act promotes Medicaid expansion. Medicaid expansion is needed
in North Carolina to insure the disabled and those that live below the poverty level receive adequate
healthcare coverage. The resistance of North Carolina legislature in the promotion of Medicaid
reform has retarded Medicaid expansion to its uninsured residents. The cooperation of the North
Carolina legislature and its support of the Affordable Care Act is necessary for successful Medicaid
reform. This paper reviews the impact of the Affordable Care Act 's lack of implementation in North
Carolina. Background & Significance Binker & Sims (2015), reported the main purpose of the
Affordable Care Act is to provide Medicaid coverage for low income and disabled persons. In 2010,
the Affordable Care Act mandated all states to provide coverage to persons earning less than 138
percent of the poverty level. The Supreme Court overturned this ruling in 2012. Individual states
were given the power to decide whether Medicaid would be expanded. As documented by
NCJustice.org (2014), North Carolina has rejected millions of dollars that could provide medical
coverage for more than a half million uninsured people. The acceptance of federally allocated
dollars would greatly help the working poor. The working poor make too much money to qualify for
Medicaid and not enough to pay for private insurance. Nationally, the federal government is trying
to provide coverage for underprivileged

medical field, PAs can diagnose and treat patients as well as prescribe medicine. The job outlook for
the PA position is very bright. Per the American Academy of Physician Assistants, "three quarters of
PAs receive multiple job offers upon passing their initial licensing and certification exams." Studies
also show that financial success within a hospital correlates with maximum usage of its PAs ("What

will knock at their door for health care. So far, according to Camp (2014) "More than two million

2013–2015 in North Carolina (NC,) and assures that $575M will be added to Medicaid budget,
$7.2M will be given for Drug Treatment Courts, and $30M to open a new psychiatric hospital, all to
be delivered in two fiscal years period (Newsroom, 2013).
Overall NC's State economy seems to be picking up with an underemployment rate dropping from
17 percent in October 2011–2012, to 14.9 percent from October 2012–2013 (Robesonian News,
2013). In addition, Murawsk (2013) assures "the economy is indisputably building up steam and
moving in a direction we haven't seen in years". With NC State biannual budget investing $612.2 M
in three important areas of health care and the general economy steaming up it seems that more of
NC uninsured community will be able to have an employer sponsored health care insurance, or be
able to afford health insurance in the marketplace. It looks like a promising situation, that will surely
help to banish the ghost of unfunded mandates, but if 100 percent of NC uninsured population will
get what ACA proposes is something to be checked in the future.

after Medicare and Medicaid. The main goals of ACA were to decrease the number of uninsured and

100 % of the Medicaid costs for newly eligible clients for the first three fiscal years 2014 to 2016,
and declining to 90% in 2020" (North Carolina Institute of Medicine, 2014, p. 2). The Affordable
Care act also funded North Carolina for Prevention and Public heath Trust for promoting
prevention, wellness, and public health, "ACA granted $750 million in FY 2011 increasing to dollar
two billion in FY 2015 and each year thereafter" (Silberman, 2013, p 28). According to Middle
Class Tax Relief and Job creation Act 2012, "the cut $6.25 billion over 9 years", the fund instead of

Dentistry And For Selecting Dentistry As A Profession Essay
. Give the reasons for your interest in dentistry and for selecting dentistry as a profession: There are
several reason why I have decided to pursue a career in dentistry, one of them being my upbringing.
Growing up in a socioeconomically disadvantaged family, I have watched my parents forgo
essential medical treatment, in order to provide my siblings and I the basic necessities. For two
decades, my mother sacrificed her oral health; overtime the lack of care took its toll and left her
with diminished oralhealth. As a result my mother's self–esteem suffered, greatly altering her
personality. Watching my mother suffer due to a lack of proper oral care is the driving force in me to
become a dentist. I want to be in a position to ease suffering and provide oral health care to those in
need. Coming from an underserved community, I feel an obligation to give back to such
communities. While volunteering at dental clinics, I have noticed the commonality of health
disparities associated with those individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Often, those of lower
socioeconomic status tend to put off seeking preventive dental services that often lead to chronic
illnesses that are more difficult to treat. I find it heartbreaking to know people's oral and overall
health suffers because of their socioeconomic state. With the large number of dentists projected to
retire in the upcoming years, there will be an increased shortage of dentists who are committed to
providing oral

Educational Programs in Prisons
"It is not a surprise to see that prisoners all have a low education level. I guess a more educated
person has enough sense not to be involved with crime...the relationship between crime and
education is easy to see when viewing these facts" (Cordes 1). This is the view of most people when
asked why people are in prison. People simply say that criminals were ill educated. As hard as we
may try, we cannot do a lot about what happens before they enter prison, but there are many
programs inside prisons to help rehabilitate them for when they leave the prison.

The prison system realizes that an immense majority of inmates will be released; we need to prepare
them for outside life. Without the efforts of educational programs, a prison can become a "revolving
door, with inmates having nowhere to go but back" to the prison with no future (Young 1). A
majority of the states offer a GED program, but North Carolina profits from a Community College
system that offers classes in academics, auto mechanics, masonry, wiring, plumbing, and computer
literacy. The Community Colleges offer two–year degree programs in many areas. The University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers business association classes to inmates over twenty–five years
of age. Because of the excellent programs they have to offer, more than five thousand of about thirty
thousand inmates are in the education program and these numbers continue to grow.
"Educational programs are among the few activities individuals in federal prisons can pursue in
order to bring meaning and hope to their lives" (Santos 1). Whether an inmate studies on his own
using the library resources or spends forty hours in a classroom, prison walls appear "to be more
permeable" (Santos 1). But many inmates cannot study on their own because of poor reading skills,
or no reading skills at all. The amount of inmates able to read has gone up since

The members of the Duke Lacrosse team did not have much support from the faculty as the accusations were the headliners for many major media outlets. The impact of these allegations by the Duke Lacrosse team was tremendous. The President of the University Richard Brodhead canceled the entire season and called the situation "sickening and repulsive" (Jennings, 2009, p. 568). Once again the support from the highest level at Duke University was not there for the three members of the lacrosse team at the center of the allegations. The African American accuser Crystal Mangum had support from the NAACP, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and the Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong. The coach of the team also resigned from his job as the season was canceled. Mr. Nifong from the beginning of the investigation seemed to have his mind set on convicting these white males of the allegations they faced from the accuser. The unethical manner in which Mike Nifong proceeded in the investigation tested the judicial system. The tactics that were used in the case undermined that you are innocent until proven guilty. A Duke was facing a crisis little did the judicial system in North Carolina know that they were about to have their work cut out for them as Mr. Nifong continued his journey to find these three lacrosse players guilty. • 2. Summary Of The Reclaiming The American Dream Report In the Reclaiming the American Dream report (AACC, 2012), seven recommendations were suggested to meet the needs of the students, as well as having a strong community college system. Hence, these recommendation address redesigning students' educational experiences, reinventing institutional roles, and resetting the system to create incentives for students and institutional triumphs. Recommendation One A section of recommendation one is to "increase completion rates of students earning community college credentials (certificates and associate degrees) by fifty percent by 2020." (AACC, 2012 p. 26). Although recommendation one is certainly obtainable, completing the goal by 2020 is doubtful. As an administrator, in order to see a goal this large come to manifestation, everyone has to get on the bus, and asking the same question "who" instead of "what" – then, and only then will a goal this large will manifest ( Collins, 2001). However, utilizing particular strategies to accomplish the goal will help toward achieving the goal. In doing that, students would be served more effectively and more efficiently, because staff and faculty would be more intentional regarding the service rendered. Affective academic advising is an essential and sure way to promote students' retention (O'Banion, 1997). In addition, using strategies to construct coherent, structured pathways to complete degrees, promote transfers from community colleges to four year institutions, and to assist students ... • 3. Kay Hagan Strengths And Weaknesses After a devastating loss to republican nominee Thom Tillis, Kay Hagan has remained dedicated to aiding the people of North Carolina. Regardless of her defeat for a seat in the Senate, she has refused to stop working on making improvements for her state and has made sure to communicate the following message to her supporters, "This campaign has ended, but our work to improve the lives of North Carolinians and to build an economy that works for everyone isn't over" (nationaljournal.com). It is obvious that she chose the right issue to focus on during her campaign because people are always looking to grow financially in order to secure their survival in America. The intelligent part of Kay Hagan's plan is that she has come up with solutions that target both employees and employers. For instance, by defending the raising of the minimum wage and equal pay for women, she speaks to the middle class people who work hard daily and wouldn't mind having more money in their pockets. Also, by coming up with the bipartisan plan, she is captivating the attention of the many employers who are looking for people with specific job skills. Even though Kay did not make it to the senate this year, her plan would definitely create new jobs, provide people with more funds, and allow employers to succeed in business with the help of properly trained employees. Most importantly, her plan would do all of this without the need of billions of dollars and would only require changes that would make the economy a stronger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She approached me and said "Can you help me I feel, hated, mistreated, alone, and scared", the only thing I could tell her was, " I can see if we have space available for a single room with a restroom included". That hurt me because I was in this leadership position, representing residence life, and we didn't even have a gender–neutral restroom for a soon to be transgender to take a shower in peacefully. Unfortunately, that student moved off campus, and had to pay a housing termination fee, and that was one less student in a room. • 9. My Dreams Of African American Dreams Admiration, reverence, and sincere appreciation are all the feelings I've felt for my African American ancestors who were the first in our race to achieve their dreams. Most people are familiar with the story of Jackie Robinson as he was the first African American person to play major league baseball. Others know the story of Shirley Chisholm. She was the first African American women elected to Congress and the first to run for President of the United States. Even fewer people have heard of Sarah Tanner Mossell Alexander, she was the first African American women to receive her Doctorate in Philosophy. As a lover of history, I always find joy in learning the unknown stories of my ancestors. Stories like Alexander's showcase both remarkable achievement and tremendous resiliency. Alexander had to triumph over racial and gender inequality, layers of systematic oppression, and countless unknown obstacles to reach her ambitious goal, but nonetheless, she achieved. To explore an even bigger spectrum, third world countries such as Africa also includes some of these factors in giving health care. Health care involves many factors when it comes to rural areas because of the differences among people. To consider these factors, in conclusion, it contains solutions on addressing these factors, such as educating the public. 3 Introduction Everyone deserves quality health care, whether you live in an urban setting or a rural. For those that live in a rural area, there are many factors that could play a role in health care. Rural areas are places that are located outside of a city or town. "Only about ten percent of physicians practice in rural America despite the fact that nearly one–fourth of the population lives in these areas" (National Rural Health Association). These country–like places lack health care. Some examples could be Molokai as a rural island of Hawaii, or North Carolina in the United States, and of course third world countries such as Africa. Depending on the situation and culture of each specific area, factors may vary. The most important basic factors to consider while giving health care in a rural area are living conditions, economic situations, transportation, and religious views. Factors Living Conditions Rural areas are considered "country" and usually don't have the resources that cities and towns contain. Living conditions can reach extreme measures. The American Community Colleges were established in the twentieth century to address the needs of the workforce development (The American Association of Community College, 2015). Moreover, skilled workers were critical to the economic growth and strength of America's society (American Association of Community College, 2015). Although the community college's mission has not changed, employment skills have changed. In order to yield tangible economic benefits to the community, community colleges have to start to think more creatively (Rockefeller Institute of Government, 2010). For over thirty years, community colleges has been the go–to reference for their role in economic development and services rendered to the community (American Community College, 2014). Because of the substantial need for industries to obtain and maintain skilled workers, the community college system is pursuing strategies to help employers attract the preferred worker. This is done through education, training, management counseling, and other initiatives (Rockefeller Institute of Government, 2010). Consequently, knowledge is power; higher education's primary role and contribution to economic development remains in its traditional obligation: creating an educated society. In addition to that, the current economy has caused the conventional academic mission to be extremely significant (Rockefeller Institute of Government, 2010). • 22. The Effects Of A Developmental Boot Camp This research study examines the effects of a developmental "boot–camp" on the standardized placement test scores of students enrolling in a community college. A developmental boot–camp is described as an online learning environment in which participants work at their own pace to refresh and enhance their skills in math, English, and writing in order to increase their placement scores and possibly place out of developmental community college classes. A community college in North Carolina implemented a developmental tutoring course in an attempt to raise placement test scores and place students into college–level courses (Hill, 2012, p. 2). The researcher proposed two research questions, each with multiple hypothesis. First, Heather Hill wanted to assess the effect of the developmental boot camp on the students' performance on the ASSET placement test. She hypothesized that students completing the developmental math numerical boot camp would score significantly higher on the ASSET placement test than those who did not complete the developmental math numerical boot camp; the students would score significantly higher on the ASSET placement test than those students not completing the developmental math algebra boot camp; and those completing the developmental English boot camp would score higher on the ASSET placement test than those who did not complete the developmental English boot camp (3–4). • 23. How Can We Raise Test Scores? The question often raised in the education field is " How can we raise test scores?" Test . scores have become the center of education. Everything done in the school system revolves around test scores. The curriculums require kids to "learn" a variety of material and give teachers little time to extensively teach a student leading to some kids falling behind. This affects students when the necessary test such as the SAT and ACT spring up. Scoring well on the SAT or ACT has become the standard for who colleges accept into their programs. In Caldwell County, test scores are dropping but the graduation rate is rising. Caldwell County Schools have recorded higher graduation rates than other counties in North Carolina. These graduation rates are coming at a price of higher dropout rates and lower test scores. In order to solve this issue, Caldwell County should test less and provide teachers and students with better work environments. These mediocre, high testing environments promote high stress for students which in turn affects the learning process for students. This cripples the major test's scores and reinforce the thought of dropping out for students. However, cutting back on testing and allowing teachers to have a chance to rigorously teach a subject would correct these problems. A big reason schools, especially in Caldwell County, don't seem to notice these problems is for the reason that they are boasting numbers like graduation rates and not test scores. Graduation is ... Research in this area has relied on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to identify beliefs and attitudes that might predict sexual risk taking. I lived there until I graduated high school, following which I came to Orlando to go to college. Elections are a major aspect of the State Government, with new representatives of the elections board being elected every four years in North Carolina and eight years in Florida. As far as impact on term limits, there's not a problem with having no limit on terms in Florida because if the representative is doing a good job then it would be acceptable to have them stay in office. Corruption or abuse of power aren't nearly as big of issues because the power of State legislatures lacks severely in comparison to federal power, so typically corrupt officials wouldn't want to stay in the state department. Comparing Germany 's Education System In comparing and contrasting Germany's Education System to the U.S Education System, one would find both similarities and differences; however, one enormous difference is that tuition is free to the students in the Germany's Public School System and higher educational institutions (Flippo, 1996). More importantly, Parks (2014) explained, that if an American wanted to be educated in Germany, the tuition would be free, but in order to obtain a bachelor's degree in Germany, the American student would have to be knowledgeable enough to comprehend the German language, and having an equivalent educational background of a German Abitur ( e.g., university entry qualification) is required. Medicaid expansion is needed in North Carolina to insure the disabled and those that live below the poverty level receive adequate healthcare coverage. The resistance of North Carolina legislature in the promotion of Medicaid reform has retarded Medicaid expansion to its uninsured residents. The cooperation of the North Carolina legislature and its support of the Affordable Care Act is necessary for successful Medicaid reform. This paper reviews the impact of the Affordable Care Act 's lack of implementation in North Carolina. Background & Significance Binker & Sims (2015), reported the main purpose of the Affordable Care Act is to provide Medicaid coverage for low income and disabled persons. In 2010, the Affordable Care Act mandated all states to provide coverage to persons earning less than 138 percent of the poverty level. The Supreme Court overturned this ruling in 2012. Individual states were given the power to decide whether Medicaid would be expanded. As documented by NCJustice.org (2014), North Carolina has rejected millions of dollars that could provide medical coverage for more than a half million uninsured people. So far, according to Camp (2014) "More than two million people across the country have signed up for healthcare under the ACA and hospitals are bracing for a wave of newly insured patients". It looks like a promising situation, that will surely help to banish the ghost of unfunded mandates, but if 100 percent of NC uninsured population will get what ACA proposes is something to be checked in the future. • 35. Dentistry And For Selecting Dentistry As A Profession Essay . Give the reasons for your interest in dentistry and for selecting dentistry as a profession: There are several reason why I have decided to pursue a career in dentistry, one of them being my upbringing. Growing up in a socioeconomically disadvantaged family, I have watched my parents forgo essential medical treatment, in order to provide my siblings and I the basic necessities. For two decades, my mother sacrificed her oral health; overtime the lack of care took its toll and left her with diminished oralhealth. As a result my mother's self–esteem suffered, greatly altering her personality. Watching my mother suffer due to a lack of proper oral care is the driving force in me to become a dentist. I want to be in a position to ease suffering and provide oral health care to those in need. Coming from an underserved community, I feel an obligation to give back to such communities. While volunteering at dental clinics, I have noticed the commonality of health disparities associated with those individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Often, those of lower socioeconomic status tend to put off seeking preventive dental services that often lead to chronic illnesses that are more difficult to treat. I find it heartbreaking to know people's oral and overall health suffers because of their socioeconomic state. With the large number of dentists projected to retire in the upcoming years, there will be an increased shortage of dentists who are committed to providing oral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I guess a more educated person has enough sense not to be involved with crime...the relationship between crime and education is easy to see when viewing these facts" (Cordes 1). This is the view of most people when asked why people are in prison. People simply say that criminals were ill educated. The prison system realizes that an immense majority of inmates will be released; we need to prepare them for outside life. Without the efforts of educational programs, a prison can become a "revolving door, with inmates having nowhere to go but back" to the prison with no future (Young 1). A majority of the states offer a GED program, but North Carolina profits from a Community College system that offers classes in academics, auto mechanics, masonry, wiring, plumbing, and computer literacy. The Community Colleges offer two–year degree programs in many areas. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers business association classes to inmates over twenty–five years of age. Because of the excellent programs they have to offer, more than five thousand of about thirty thousand inmates are in the education program and these numbers continue to grow. "Educational programs are among the few activities individuals in federal prisons can pursue in order to bring meaning and hope to their lives" (Santos 1). Whether an inmate studies on his own using the library resources or spends forty hours in a classroom, prison walls appear "to be more permeable" (Santos 1). But many inmates cannot study on their own because of poor reading skills, or no reading skills at all. The amount of inmates able to read has gone up since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
