Citicholine (Somazine)
Cl: Neurotonics
Indication: Citicoline is a supplement used to improve thinking, learning, and memory in elderly people, such as in alzheimer’s disease.
Action: For post Cardio Vascular Accident / Stroke. Treatment on elderly, for faster improvement on thinking ability and those with an impaired or brain damage.
• Full recovery on daily activities
• Full recovery on neurologic function
• Full recovery from disability
Contraindication: 1. Are taking medicine or are allergic to any medicine ( prescription or over the counter (OTC) or dietary supplement )
2. Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medicine.
3. Are breastfeeding
4. Have other health problems, such as high blood pressure or heart or blood vessel disease.
Adverse Reaction: Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing,
or rash.
Other side Effects: Low blood pressure ( faintness, dizziness )
: Slow or fast heart beat
: Headache
: Nausea and Vomiting or diarrhea ( loose BM’s)
Nursing implications: 1. Take medication as prescribed
2. Take medication on time
3. Monitor patient neurologic status
4. Note if there are signs of slurring of speech
5. Note for adverse reaction
Oral Bactidol
Cl: Mouth and throat preparation
Use: Prevents infections and provides relief to any minor injury requiring a germicide. Halotosis, minor sore throats. Protection against formation of decay acids.
D: Half- mouthful should be held in mouth, mouth, swished and gargle for 30 seconds. BID. Use full strength.
Calmoseptine Ointment
2. Cl: Cell Stimulants
Use: It soothes and helps heal skin integrity
Nursing implication: 1. Apply thinly 2-4 times by using a cotton buds. For external use only. Not for deep wounds. Avoid contact with eyes.
Kalium Durule
Cl: Oral electrolytes
Use: For hypokalemia. As prophylaxis during treatment with diuretics.
Hypokalemia
Causes: Laxative abuse, vomiting, diarrhea, inadequate intake, diuretics
Findings: Cardiac arrest, decrease or absent reflexes
Nursing implications: 1. Administer potassium supplements to replace losses.
2. Monitor acid- base balance
