2. The Eastern Rays serves as a prime student
organization that provides quality and truthful
information and innovative programs and services
that sets the benchmark of campus journalism in the
21st century which augments students to lead and
influence, contribute knowledge, and be an
instrument of truth to the institution, community,
and nation.
3. The Eastern Rays is committed in enriching the
students’ journalistic skills, enhancing their personal and
professional growth, and practicing ethical responsibilities
to produce highly competent and morally upright
individuals in the field of campus journalism with the
purpose to serve the institution as voice of each student
and an avenue for knowledge and truth in publishing and
disseminating scholarly, creative, and truthful works.

organization model integrity by
upholding ethical standards and
principles that guide our
responsibilities - demonstrating
professionalism, ethical conduct, and
accountability in gathering,
publishing and disseminating
information.
5. IMPARTIALITY – the organization
upholds the principle of objectiveness
in gathering and disseminating
information rather than on the basis
of bias, prejudice, or preferring the
benefit to one person over another for
improper reasons.
6. EMPOWERMENT – the organization
enable its members to take an active role
in influencing institutional and local
matters that empowers them to advocate
for themselves, their community and the
rights of others.
7. In support of the organization’s mission, The Eastern Rays works toward
achieving the following goals:
To hone the members’ journalistic skills to produce scholarly, creative yet
accurate outputs;
To explore other media platforms in exercising journalistic skills;
To recognize the role and appreciate the value of publication in the affairs of a
community and in the school;
To enrich the student experience by giving hands-on tasks to accomplish
certain journalistic tasks;
8. To promote cooperation and collaboration among students that fosters a
balanced and purposeful working relation;
To prepare and engage students to lead, learn, and live in a globally-
competitive society;
To challenge and empower students to be responsible citizens who contribute
to their communities and profession through leadership and service; and
To lead the responsibilities of Student Affairs by advancing innovative
programs, services and member development in pursuit of personal and
institutional excellence.
13. Amidst COVID-19 pandemic, the UEP
student publication continuously
advocates and promotes social awareness
and freedom of expression through
publishing information that are of general
interest of the students and of the whole
UEP community.

deliver its services in digital space through its
official Facebook page (The Eastern Rays)

16. Publication and dissemination of news articles and other
relevant information will also be posted in the official Facebook
page of student publication. Students may directly send a
message in the said Facebook page for queries and concerns
regarding student publication.

19. Officially enrolled student.
Student who has general interests, knowledge
and skill in writing either in English or Filipino.
Student who has a good foundation both in
individual and collaborative work, and is good in
receiving constructive criticisms.
Student who is willing to do extra-curricular
activities alongside with his/her classes.
20. ONLINE APPLICATION will be posted in the Facebook page of The
Eastern Rays. A link will be provided in the said post for the digital
registration form that the students need to fill out. Applicants SHALL
ATTACH a softcopy (either a document or a picture) of their written
output in accordance to the POSITION they are applying for.
21. The attached output in
the online registration of
applicants will be critically
evaluated by the school
publication coordinator and the
editor-in-chief. After the
evaluation, the applicants will
receive an e-mail from the
student publication indicating
whether he or she have passed
the initial screening.
22. The applicant/s who
passed the initial screening will
proceed to the next part of
evaluation which is a short online
examination. The email that the
applicant will receive after his/her
initial registration also indicates
the schedule of his/her online
examination. The said exam
revolves around proper usage of
English and Filipino in writing
and basic rules in grammar. The
score will be presented to the
applicant right away after the
exam.
23. If the applicant passed the exam,
he/she will take the final evaluation which
is the virtual on-the-spot write up exercise
through Google Meet. The applicant will be
scheduled accordingly.
The write-up exercise will be
conducted and supervised by a committee
composed of school publication
coordinator, editor-in-chief, managing
editor, associate editor, representative/s
from the faculty members of the English
Department with approval of the Head of
Student Affairs.
24. The applicant will be instructed to
do a write-up on a certain topic which is
given on-the-spot. The applicant will turn
in his/her output once he/she is done.
The output will be carefully
evaluated by the committee. The applicant
will receive an e-mail from the student
publication after 3 days indicating the
result of his/her final evaluation. The
result will indicate the standing of the
applicant, the position he/she is most
qualified with, and an attachment of the
official membership form of the school
publication.
