1. Coralline scheme of work
Lesson 1:
In the first lesson introduce Coralline to the students what it is about and what they will be
looking at. For example, we will be studying Coralline and looking at family relationships.
Also we will be analysing 3 poems and a novel.
Lesson 2:
In the second lesson we look at the trailer, the book cover and filmcover for Coralline and
try to find the layers of meaning of the trailer and what the film maker is try to get across to
the audience. Also we compare all 3 pictures/videos and try to find the actual meaning of
Coralline.
Lesson 3:
In the third lesson we start to read Coralline page by page and picking key words and
phrases out and analysing them and try to figure out what they mean.
Lesson 4:
In the fourth lesson we carry on reading Coralline and analysing the text.
Lesson 5:
In the fifth lesson we carry on reading Coralline and analysing the text.
Lesson 6:
In the sixth lesson we carry on reading Coralline and analysing the text.
Lesson 7:
In the seventh lesson we carry on reading Coralline and analysing the text.
Lesson 8:
In the eighth lesson we try to conclude reading Coralline but keep one extra lesson
afterwards in case students have not finished reading and analysing.
Lesson 9:
In the ninth lesson we do conclude reading Coralline and students who have not finished
reading Coralline are given the task of reading the rest of the book and analysing key words
and phrases as homework. Also in this lesson we discuss what we learnt from the book and
think about what the general idea is that the reading is trying to do.
2. Lesson 10:
In the tenth lesson we look at what language the writer used and why. The structure the
writer used and why and the writers viewpoints and purposes.
Lesson 11:
In the eleventh lesson we look at how to write what we found out about the writer and
what he is trying to do in an exam style answer.
Lesson 12:
In the twelve lesson we look at the 1st of 3 poems Catrin by Gillian Clarke and we read
through and analyse what each line/verse means and come to an overall conclusion of what
the poem is trying to say.
Lesson 13:
In the thirteenth lesson we look at the 2nd of 3 poems Presents from my aunts in Pakistan by
Moniza Alvi and we read through and analyse what each line/verse means and come to an
overall conclusion of what the poem is trying to say.
Lesson 14:
In the fourteenth lesson we look at the 3rd and final poem Praise song for my mother by
Grace Nichols, and we read through an analyse what each line/verse means and come to an
overall conclusion of what the poem is trying to say.
Lesson 15:
In the fifteenth lesson we look at the annotation of all 3 poems and compare all of them.
Then we look at writing the annotation into exam style answers and comparing each of
them together to get a higher grade.
Lesson 16:
In the sixteenth lesson we watch the filmCoralline whilst making notes on the film
necessary for writing up as an exam style answer.
Lesson 17:
In the seventeenth lesson we watch the filmCoralline whilst making notes on the film
necessary for writing up as an exam style answer.

In the eighteenth lesson we look at converting the notes about the filminto an exam style
answer.

This lesson is used for revision before the exam. Going over everything we have done over
the topic.
