Universal design "is the design of products and
environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest
extent possible, without the need for adaptation or
specialized design"

3. How can Universal Design be
Applied to the Classroom?
The teacher must teach the material in many different
ways.
Children must be allowed to express what the have
learned in many different ways.
Teachers must assess students using many different
methods.
4. Why use Universal Design?
The goal of universal design is to allow all children to
reach their greatest potential. In order to reach this
goal, teachers must apply these principles to all
aspects of instruction, including the physical
classroom, supporting technologies, interactions with
students, and the way material is taught and
assessed.

Environment Promotes:
equitable use
flexibility in use
simple and intuitive use
perceptible information
tolerance for error
low physical effort
size and space for approach and use
