Crash course on creativity assignment ii - observation lab
Assign 2 observations create
1. Retail Observation Excursion
I explored the stores of a small retail plaza with new eyes.
I tried my best to go into each store with a fresh mind,
diverse focal points and a set of observational questions.
Cory Wright assignment #2
2. In Your Face Opportunities
Retail and real estate go hand -n- hand but with my eyes wide
open, it was clear as day how poorly used store doors are. They can
add negative, neutral, or positive value. Yet the photos above
clearly have a negative value. Not only is the media ineffective,
even the tape securing the media appears to be an opportunity for
a better system.
3. Surprising
Observation
What do you see?
Fresh new eyes spotted a path of foot prints.
Hmmm? What insights or ideas come to mind
seeing this?
• Develop hidden censors to track where and
how customers go through a store.
• Place foot prints on the floor to guide
people to specific display.
• Make a game out of it.
This observation was a great stimulus to new thinking.
4. Once you spot one... you spot another… and another
Messy wires hanging from the ceiling from a highly respected grocer
in the US. My observation lead me to think…
How might you eliminate or use wires in a useful way?
5. Small observations might be BIG!
Observe the shoe boxes in the this shoe store and many
shoe stores. Customers can see boxes but they are
adding little visual value.
Aha! Redesign shoe boxes to engage customers.
