make up barriers to effective communication.
1. Speechandlanguage differences.Studentswithunaddressedlearningorspeech
difficultiesoftenstruggle tocommunicate inthe classroom .One mighthave
comprehendinglessonsandinothers mightrelyonhandgesturesratherthanwords.
Theymightshutdown,isolate themselvesfromcommunicatingwiththe lectureroutof
fearor embarrasment. Thisbarriercanbe overcommedbydevelopingindividual
educationplansforstrugglingstudents andconsultingwithspecial educationteachers.
2. Boring classromslessons. Effective communicationbreaksdownwhenstudentsare
boredor disinterestedintheirschool work .There isneedfor the lecturertoengage
studentswithrelevantandinterestingactivitiesintheircommunication.
3. PersonalityDifferences. Some communicationproblems stemfrompersonality
differencesbetweenstudentsandlecturers.Forexample,studentswhodonotconnect
on a personal levelwiththeirlectureroftenavoidcommunicatingwiththemwhile
those whocrave clossenessandacceptance oftenstrive tobe the teacher'spetand
theircommunicationismostlyeffective.Personalitydifferencesleadtofrustration
unhappinessandlackof communication.Tocombatthisbarrierthe lecturershould
recognize andunderstandthese personalitydifferences andstrive tofindahealthy
balance ,withoutshowing partialityorfavorism.
4. PeerPressure .Itcreatescommunicationproblemsinthe classroomwhenstudents
respondto the lecturerbyacting funny, cool ordisengaged. Peerpressure can
influence the classroomas earlyas firstgrade.The bestway to combat this
communicationdifficultiesresultingfrompeerpressureisrewardingpositive
behaviour.
5. Negative attitudetowardsthe subject.Attitudecanaltereveryaspectof a student's
life mostlyineducation. Negative attitude towardsthe subjectmightlimitgood
communicationbetweenthe studentandthe lecturer. Tocombatthis,the lecturer
should strive tochange the negative attitude of the studentandshow themhoweasy
isthe subject.
