Section 1.3 Solving Linear Equations
Vocabulary Equation: A statement where two
expressions are equal.
Example: 3x + 5 = 7; x2 = 25
Linear Equation: An equation
that can be written in the form
ax = b where a ≠ 0.
Example: 3x = 9; 4x 5 = 3
Equivalent: equations are
equivalent if they have the same
solution.
Example: x = 5 and x 1 = 4 are
equivalent.
