The document discusses how the media product follows conventions of real drama films. It describes taking inspiration from the opening of Pride and Prejudice for a realistic family drama storyline about a father leaving and dying of cancer. Characters and settings were kept relatable and recognizable by filming at a house and train station. Editing and color correction were kept simple. Text was kept small and white. An instrumental piano piece was chosen for its successful use setting emotion and atmosphere in Pride and Prejudice and About Time. The opening successfully follows drama conventions through the chosen music.
1. N WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
2. When creating my opening sequence, I took inspiration from the film
opening of Pride and Prejudice, as the film came under the same genre as
my film, drama, and I had also looked at this film in previous research tasks.

3. In order for my film to be presented under the genre
of drama, I made sure I carefully planed the narrative
which would follow the typical conventions of a drama
film.
Firstly, I made sure the storyline of the film was
realistic and centred around a hard hitting topic, and I
successfully achieved this by creating a storyline
around the breakdown of a family. The film will also
follow the typical convention of being emotional and
have the ability to move an audience, and this was
done through the idea of Rosie’s father leaving her at
an early age, and dying of Cancer at the end of the
film.
4. The film also has a sense of realism, and I achieved this through
developing characters that were relatable and that live normal lives,
also keeping the settings used recognisable to the audience. This was
done through filming at my house and at the train station. In the
editing process, I kept the editing fairly simplistic by not using any
dramatic effects. With colour, I simply altered the colour correction of
all of the shots in the sequence to make the footage and overall look
of the film more appealing. When using text, I kept the size rather
small and had it coloured white in order to not distract from the
storyline of the film.
5. Finally when it came to music I used an instrumental piano piece
which was used to evoke emotion and to give the film warmth and
feeling which would reflect the storyline. I was inspired by the film
Pride and Prejudice to pick an instrumental piano piece, as it
had been used in the opening successfully to create a
calm atmosphere. The piece used entitled Golborne Road has also
been used in the drama film About Time, so again I felt like this
chosen piece would be suitable and appropriate to use. All together I
believe my film opening does successfully follow the typical
conventions of a drama film and I believe my strength in doing this
was choosing and using a suitable piece of music which would add
pace to the film and evoke emotion.
