Short films tell concise stories from a single character's perspective, focusing on difficult topics not covered in mainstream films. They allow filmmakers more creative freedom and higher risks. Good short films have exciting plots, strong scripts, appropriate actors, and high production values. The London Short Film Festival is a premiere UK showcase for independent short films, now in its 13th year, that attracts a large audience of short film fans as shorts often aren't released in cinemas.

INTRODUCTION TO
SHORT FILMS
2. THE PURPOSE OF SHORT FILMS
The purpose of a short film is to tell a story, mainly see in one
character (the main characters) perspective. It is known that
American short films are more likely to focus o character, where
as European short films tend to depend more on visual art and
plot twists. Modern short films often focus on difficult topics
which ordinary and more commercial films usually avoid such as
drug use, bullying and all the isms. As it is a short film,
producers can really go into detail with a gritty plot line. Film
makers benefit from larger freedoms and can take higher risks
as it is a more specific audience the film will relate to. Short films
mostly rely on festival and art house exhibition to achieve public
display. Short film making is also growing in popularity among
armatures and enthusiasts, who are taking advantage of
affordable equipment.
3. WHAT MAKES A GOOD SHORT FILM?
A good short film would have an exciting and unique plot and
narrative. Also a strong script, the appropriate actors who fit the
characteristics of the characters within the film, high production
values as well as new ideas and techniques. A good short film
relates to its audience as the audience who watch short films may
be more specific. Also, a short film may focus on creativity, which
means when it comes to making our short film, we will have to
look at using creative shots to improve the quality of our film. By
using a different variety of shots, the audience may be able to see
through other peoples perspectives and may make our film stand
out from other short films that only use basic shots.
