1. Activity 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real products?
We have used many different media techniques in our thriller to incorporate generic
conventions. For example, we used camera shots such as an establishing shot to build
up the tension in the scene when Michal was appearing from the horizon on his bike.
The use of this shot created a sense of danger therefore incorporating a generic
convention.
Similarly, we have combined dramatic music with movement in the chase scene to
create a fast pace within the opening scene, hence creating a typical thriller mood. In
our research into other thrillers, we looked at chase scenes in thrillers such as 'drive
angry'. This influenced us to use some of the conventions used in this thriller.
Therefore, allowing us to develop a thriller similar to a real product.
Moreover, we have used lighting cleverly to create an eerie mood towards the ending
of our opening scene. The red light connotes the dangerous environment around
person who has been kidnapped. Therefore enhancing our aim of developing a thriller
similar to a real product.
In conclusion, we have used many diverse types of forms and conventions of a real
media product in our opening scene to create elements of a thriller.
