1. Main image ‘Biffy Clyro’. Every band member is
shown looking towards the audience this is called
direct address. This shows the attitude of the band
as they aren't smiling. All members are in suits
which could represent sophistication.
The main headline is in
white which was
chosen for two reasons;
first because white
stand out on a black
background and
secondly because to
white is one of the
house colours of the
magazine
Bright colours to stand against the
dark backgrounds, used to show
audience who else is in the
magazine.
Plus bars at the bottom of the page attract more
audience. This lets the audience know what else is
published inside.
Masthead is unique to Kerrang.
Black and white appears to be
kerrangs main colour scheme for
their masthead. This colour scheme
almost shows the rock theme of
Kerrang.

appearing in the magazine.
Could attract audience as
they might see a band that
they really enjoy.
Bar code on every magazine. Shows
the price of magazine and the issue
date and number. Is on the front as
kerrang usually has an advert on the
back.

2. This masthead has been put in front and behind
of the main image presenting the lead singer of
the band. This makes the lead singer look more
important than the masthead itself. The colour is
very eye catching, we can tell just by looking at
the front cover that the house style is green,
yellow and grey, green especially because the all
the band members are wearing green. Yellow
stands out on green and on this front cover it
makes the band’s name ‘MUSE’.
Rock Sound has the same sort of layout as
KERRANG and also includes on the front cover
the same sort of lures. On the bottom left of the
front cover, just like KERRANG, there is a plus
bar/list.
The bar code on the bottom right of the page
presents the price of the magazine and the issue
number. Just like KERRANG, the bar code is on
the front because there is normally an advert or
another picture on the back page.
On the top right corner of the front cover there is
another lure promoting 150 new reviews, this
has been put in front of the Masthead,
presenting a higher importance.
