Observation And Biopsychosocial Summary
The first initial stage Danny went through was anger and personally questioned his existence.
Throughout his anger, I witnessed the frustrated by the way he was describing his experience with
having Chrons. He described to me the type of pains he would go through before going through a
flare up. "Imagine you are sitting at home, your sweating, you're in a fetal position and it feels like
there is a knife inside and you can't take that knife out" (Danny, 2016). This part of the interview, I
knew Danny was going through anger because this stage illustrates how angry Danny was with the
symptoms he would feel. Danny look for ways to avoid the disability. Danny shared a story with
one of his first experiences with Chrons: "I was in very sharp pain

Psalm 23
Psalm 23 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for His name's sake. How can we read Psalms 23 and then make the following
statement that is found in this week's lesson. Our lesson explains that there is a very common
problem that is shared by a large percentage of the American population. How common is this
week's discussed problem? Well to begin with it is reported that fifty percent of Americans in our
common age group of over fifty, suffer from this problem. But in truth, it is a huge problem for all
ages and economic groups that are found in America. When you lay down at night are you one of

Hebrews 4:16New International Version (NIV) 16 Let us then approach God's throne of grace with
confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. When is
God's grace available for us to call on? In our time of need, instead of us worrying unnecessarily, we
need to be approaching God's throne for His assistance. The what, ifs of life are hard for all of us to
handle. So maybe we should follow the advice found in Matthew 6:34. Matthew 6:34 34 Therefore
do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of
its own. So today, we had better be using our available energies to handle today's problems. When
you arise tomorrow we will face new challenges. Did Jesus promise His disciples that they would
live a perfect worry free always happy life? What Jesus did promise His disciples is found in Mark
13:11. Mark 13:11 Mark 13:11 11 And when you are arrested and taken to court, do not worry ahead
of time about what you are going to say; when the time comes, say whatever is then given to you.

How Is Teen Suicide Affected By Teen Depression?
"Do you ever feel worthless?" Teen Depression is a very serious problem in the world. Most teens
go through the day being depressed but, hide their feelings with a smile. And when people ask how
they are doing, they fake a smile and say they are fine but, they are really not. Have you ever
wondered if there was a cure for the people that are going through depression? If people could ever
stop pondering about the negative thoughts in their minds, and questioning if their life is worth
living for. How many kids in the world have gone through or having thoughts that would make them
feel depressed? There are many kids in the world that have fought against depression and what it

Teen suicide is increasing and is caused by Teen Depression and if we don't stop what is happening
now, it will just keep going and it may get worse for the next generation. But, most people don't
realize it until the teen population may start to show a decrease, and dear families don't know why
"children at such a young age" have given up their life and have committed suicide. There are many
causes and effects that this may happen to a teen. We need to try and stop what is happening to teens
before things get worse for teens. Hopefully, many teens can look back and realize that things could
have been better if things like "depression" had never existed and to think that things could have
been better. And you should be that change. If teen depression disappeared, imagine how the world
would be. Imagine teens playing with team mates and having fun outside. If everybody could
contribute and help out people that are depressed, maybe one day our society may look different and
we would be able to see that change. "You gain Strength, Courage and Confidence by every
experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself. 'I have
lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing, you
think you cannot do." – Eleanor

Depression In Infants: Paul Trad's Study
A human developmentalist, by the name of John Bradshaw once said, "Since the earliest period of
our life was preverbal, everything depended on emotional interaction. Without someone to reflect
our emotions, we had no way of knowing who we were". From the moment an embryo is implanted
into a mother's womb, human life is dependent on the attachment of a caregiver, someone to provide
it the necessary nutrients and nurturement for a healthy development. Over the course of time,
researchers have conducted countless studies to determine whether which of the two was more vital,
the fundamental necessities such as food and water or the attachment to a caregiver, for a typical
development of not just the human species, but all mammals. However, consistently results have
proven to show that attachment has played a vital role in the ... Show more content on

Paul Trad, in his study, "Depression in Infants" highlights that significant revision has been done on
the concept of infancy depression over years. At first, theorists refused to agree that depression
could occur during infancy (Reynolds & Johnston, 2013). But the Diagnostic & and statistical
manual of mental disorders in included an infant depression diagnosing criteria. According to the
author, such criteria happen to be substantially similar to as those used in describing depression in
adults. The hypothetical stance has thus developed from the earlier psychoanalytic notion that
depression in infants could not exist because of the absence of superego to ideas of masked
depression as well as depressive equivalents whereby infants were said to manifest depression by
way of disorders and behaviors different from the ones seen in adults to today's nosology that
suggests that infants have the ability to experience an effective condition which could mirror

A Discussion On The Illness Of Depression
A Discussion on the Undiscussed Illness of Depression
How do you feel when you read the term 'depression'? Do your feelings differ when you read the
term 'influenza'? Perhaps your answer is yes, but why? Clinical depression is an illness just as the
influenza virus is an illness. Clinical depression can be defined as a chemical imbalance in the brain,
resulting in a pervasive and persistent low mood. In comparison, the influenza virus, more
commonly known as the flu, can be defined as a viral infection of the respiratory passages resulting
in coughing, the production of excess mucous, and a sore throat. The location and nature of each
illness may differ from one another, but a victim is simply a victim. Thus I question why twenty–

Although depression may not cause a dry cough, runny nose, or a sore throat like the influenza
virus, those experiencing clinical depression are no better off. Symptoms such as loss of appetite
leading to weight loss or overeating leading to weight gain, social withdrawal, loss of interest in
hobbies and activities of pleasure, as well as persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, worthlessness,
guilt, or emptiness correlate with depression. These symptoms of clinical depression often lead to
thoughts of death and suicide. For this reason, the fatality rate, compared to that of influenza, is
much greater for clinical depression. To different extents, both clinical depression and influenza can
make it hard for their victims to face the day.
Treating and/or managing the influenza virus is far easier a task than treating and/or managing
clinical depression. An enormous collection of research has gone into fighting the influenza virus.
This research has resulted in vaccines that can protect one from contracting specific strains of the
virus, anti–viral medications to treat specific strains, as well as a wide array of pain killers,
decongestants, cough drops and anti–inflammatory's to ease one's symptoms. Far less research has
been conducted on the topic of clinical depression; thus, less effective treatment is offered. Similar

Death In Dulce Et Decorum Est
The presence of death plays a huge factor in the war and impart, factors into Wilfred Owen's poem,
"Dulce et Decorum Est", aiding him criticizing the war effort as unnecessary and unjust. Tyrus
Miller analyzed the poem and found, "Death and human suffering, on a purely physical plane, are
abundant throughout the poem" (Miller). Miller saw Owen included an abundance of death and
suffering throughout the poem to send a shock to and force the reader to feel uncomfortable reading
the poem. Throughout the duration of the war, it still received mass support from the citizens of the
countries involved, but Owen feared they did not know the amount of casualties that occurred. The

Miller examined the poem further to find Owen's message to the reader, claiming, "In the final
stanza, the poem once again shifts, now from the poet's dream to his address to a reader, presumed
to be a person on the homefront who has experienced nothing of the horror of war and who still
believes that war is glorious and ennobling" (Miller). In agreement with the statement of Owen
aiming to dissuade the british population from running into the war blindly, Miller refers to Owen's
audience and how he set the poem out as a warning and message of what war truly consists of.
Owen writes in an unsettling form and structure, fluctuating the poem to be slow and fast,
contributing to make the reader who never experienced the hardships of war, and trying to shepherd
them away from their pro war mentality. Analyzing the poem, Miller explains, " Although he cannot
literally bring this haunting about, through his poem and its grotesque details, he can force his
reader to confront the ugly reality of war that masks behind fine phrases and edifying sentiments.
Thus, Owen lingers over the sounds and sight of the dying body, destroyed by the poisonous gas,"
(Miller) he wants the reader to know Owen did not shy away from detail and wanted to discomfort

Reflection Paper On Depression
Depression; A mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of
interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. At some point in our lives we have
all felt "empty", hopeless or general discontent that lasts nearly every day, for weeks on end. Some
of us may even currently be in it today. Anxiety Disorders affects much our population. Depression
is the common cold of mental disorders, it affects a large population, unfortunately only less than
half are receiving help. Mexican parents do not accept that depression is a medical condition.
Growing up I encountered many things that made me feel empty and hopeless. Looking back today
at all the symptoms of depression I realize how many years I have been dealing with this illness. I
remember five–year–old me crying from seeing my mom get beat by my father and feeling helpless.
Eight–year–old me feeling alone because my parents had split and I'd never see my brother from
that day forward. There were many different things that gave me this feeling but nothing hurt more
than the day my mother left me. That day I knew what it was like to feel sad, alone, empty,
restlessness, difficulty sleeping and so many more. Imagine being eleven years old and going from
having the "ideal family" to feeling completely alone in this world? It was a horrible feeling. I
suffered from it for many years, till this day I don't think I have fully healed. I started doing
Folklorico Dance and Aztec Dance at the age of eight. Coming from a Hispanic household it was
not common to talk about depression. According to an article published by CNN, Latinos and whites
in the U.S. were both at 60 percent. Yet, only 30 percent of Latinos will consider or actually get help
from a provider. Depression is common, it has been around for many years. I don't think that Latino
families necessarily have chosen to not accept Depression as a mental disorder. I think that it has
been disregarded because it is not an injury you can physically see like a broken leg or bloody nose.
Most of their concerns revolved around what they would be eating that day. Growing up I used
dancing to express my feelings. I feel like I poured out all the negative in me in that

Poetry Is Often Used As An Outlet To Express One’S Feelings
Poetry is often used as an outlet to express one's feelings or ideas. Sometimes it is possible to find
out a person's mental state from reading their poetry. Violeta Parra was an artist in many senses
including poetry. In her poem and song "Here's to Life", it appears that Parra is celebrating life but
may hint at certain factors in her life such as racism, poverty, exhaustion, mixed emotions, and her
love life that lead to her depression and impending suicide. An ironic tone is established in the poem
by the speaker giving contradictions to the things she is grateful for. The first line of every stanza
starts with the phrase "Thanks to the life that has given me so much" (1). This phrase alone seems to
be genuinely grateful. The speaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is suggested that the speaker may not happy with her life and expresses that with an ironic tone is
when she is talking about being grateful for sounds. The first sounds she talks about are generally
thought of as appealing sounds like crickets and birds. She then goes on and describes loud and
unsettling sounds "Hammers, turbines, barking, squalls" (14). Very few people would consider these
pleasant sounds and many would avoid hearing them. They also seem to suggest a low–income area
that is perhaps near to construction or a factory. I do not know if the speaker is from a place of
poverty but even if she is not, this section appears to be referencing poverty and poverty is reason to
make someone unhappy. Exhaustion is another part of the speaker's life that is that lead to the
conclusion that the speaker was unhappy. This is when she talked about being thankful for walking.
She names all of these cool places to walk such as beaches and mountains. She names places that
allude to her having traveled all over the world and yet she describes her own feet as tired. If one
was to describe their adventures they might say after a long day of walking they were tired but the
way the speaker talks about her tired feet is not that they became tired from walking but that they
were always tired. Tiredness is often considered a symptom of depression. The inability to find
energy, even when one can travel all over the world would

Human Rhinovirus Essay
The Microbe
Human Rhinovirus is best known as the common cold. Rhinoviruses are small viruses that are not
surrounded by an envelope. These non–enveloped viruses contain a single–stranded RNA genome
within a twenty–sided capsid. This icosahedral virus is part of the picornaviridae family, which also
includes viruses such as polio and hepatitis A. This pathogen measures to be about 27 nm in
diameter. There have been several serotypes that have been identified within the Rhinovirus
microbe. These serotypes can be divided into groups, which include: RhV A and RhV B groups,
with RhV A2 and RhV C subclasses. These specific groups are organized within their sequence

There is still no known treatment or cure for the human rhinovirus. However, over–the–counter
medications will help ease the symptoms but will not make the virus go away. Some over–the–
counter medications can be the use of antihistamines and nasal decongestants. When a person is
infected with the rhinovirus, it is very rare for the person to be hospitalized. However, it to be taken
into consideration that persons infected with the rhinovirus infection are contagious and people that
are involved with the infected should take the necessary precautions. Persons with rhinovirus
infections are almost always treated as outpatients. These outpatients may limit their activity during
the course of the infection and symptoms are usually improved within 48–72 hours after the onset of
symptoms. The usual course of this specific illness lasts about 6–10 days. After the rhinovirus runs
its course, the expected outcome is that the individual should be fully cured, as the human
rhinovirus does not typically produce a long–term illness. If someone has acquired the virus, it is
important for the individual to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids. More treatments involving
human rhinoviruses include: using alcohol–based compounds to disinfect the environment, washing
hands, providing comfortable surrounding

The Gold Bridge And The Bridge Collapse
Silver Bridge
4.1 Background
The Point Pleasant Bridge or so called the Silver Bridge was designed by the J.E. Greiner Company
and built by the Gallia County Ohio River Bridge Company to connect Point Pleasant, West Virginia
to Gallipolis, Ohio. It was designed as a two–lane eye–bar suspension type bridge, measuring 2,235
feet in total length, including the approaches. The bridge was the first eye–bar suspension bridge of
its type to be constructed in the United States. [26] Figure 4.1: The Bridge before collapse. [26]
During the early evening of December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed during a period of
heavy traffic and 46 people were killed. Another nine people were injured. Of the 37 vehicles on the
bridge, 31 fell during the collapse. After some forty years of service, the Point Pleasant Bridge
collapsed without warning. [27] Figure 4.2: The Bridge after collapse. [26] The bridge was
constructed of carbon steel, which tends to crack. Many cracks were found throughout the bridge
among extensive corrosion. Upon investigation, it was found that the collapse was due to a defective
eye–bar that experienced a cleavage fracture in the lower part of its head which was resulted from
stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue. [26] Since the eye–bars were not designed to be redundant,
failure in one eye–bar would disrupt the continuity of the suspension system. This disruption is what
caused the bridge to collapse suddenly. The location of the flaw

Essay On Fibromyalgia
While some patients opt for surgery in order to relieve the painful symptoms of fibromyalgia, many
utilize the alternative methods mentioned above. Fibromyalgia syndrome impairs the quality of life
of two to four percent of the population and affects predominantly females with 9:1 female to male
ratio (citation needed Whit et al. 2015). Therefore, some researchers suggest that fibromyalgia
might be associated with serum testosterone levels. Patients with fibromyalgia syndrome have
increased sensitization of the central nervous system and the occurrence of fibromyalgia symptoms
can be detected by using functional magnetic resonance imaging to measure pain associated brain
activities. White et al. 2015 presented a clinical study designed to determine if testosterone had a
protective effect on patients against chronic pain associated with fibromyalgia. They used pre–

Signs of Stress in the Police Profession
What issues can be a sign of stress in the police profession and what could be done to help prevent
it? All aspects of any job can be stressful. There are several different factors that can cause stress.
The cause of stress in the police profession is characterized by job related stress and fatigue.
According to Merriam–Webster Collegiate Dictionary (2013), stress in general is a physical,
chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease
causation (Full definition of stress, 1c.). Job stress may involve the type of work your do, your boss,
or co–workers or your hours you work. When it comes to job stress, it can take a toll on your
productivity, as well as your physical and emotional health. Job related stress is one of the most
common causes of heart disease in the workplace. However, in my current career as a Deputy
Sheriff, I have more stress from work related issues then the stress that comes from everyday life.
Besides the job related stress issues and concerns, my job is very rewarding to me. I have the
opportunity to help people and give them a sense of security. However, there are times where the
workplace is not so rewarding because we are over worked and under paid. Also the constant
changes to the workplace policies and procedures are designed to benefit the employer instead of
the employee is major cause in job stress. These types of stressful situations may affect police
personnel on every level.

Compassion Fatigue: Caring for the Caregiver Introduction
Compassion represents an "acknowledgement of another's suffering and is accompanied by the
expression of a desire to ease or end that suffering." (Van der Cingal, 2009, p. 124) This is a
fundamental characteristic usually found in health care workers and nurses especially. In one twelve

Physical rest, nutrition and exercise are some of these needs and if denied, the body will eventually
become too exhausted to function properly. The most common symptoms of this are fatigue not
relieved with sleep, insomnia and irritability. If left untreated, physical exhaustion can lead to
physical ailments such as dizziness, colds, headaches, chronic pain, and digestive problems and
even impaired functioning of other body systems. (Espeland, 2006, p. 180) Emotional Exhaustion
Similar to physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion results from depletion of emotional resources
and failure to restore one's own emotional equilibrium. (Moore, 2009, p. 1) In today's busy society
the demands of life, job and family can be excessive and overwhelming. Combine these demands
with the additional stressors of caring for another person or persons, increased demands of
productivity with decreased personnel and the unrealistic expectations of one's self or others and
place all of this burden on one person, this would adequately describe the 21st century nurse. Nurses
are continually engaged in emotional relationships with patients and their families which call upon
the nurse to be in a constant supporting role. One reaches emotional exhaustion when this burden
becomes too heavy to carry

Stress And Stress In The Workplace
When it comes to call center agents having to go through improper training in the workplace,
increase of workload, and dealing with difficult customers. These issues can come as a negative
outcome to the organization and employees in the area of their performance at work, absent days
off, and finally leaving the employment position takes a toll on both sides of the equation.
Someone's job performance is correlated with conscientiousness, which is the personality trait of
being careful or attentive and the satisfaction a worker has at work. And according to the
Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, that is one of the two leading theories of stress and
trauma over the past 20 years, has reported that ''individuals become emotionally exhausted when
they do not have enough resources to meet work demands'' (Witt, Andrews & Carlson, 2004, p.150).
The type of resources that should be available to employees, support o of supervisors, a sense of
independence, ability to make decisions, and control (Cordes & Dougherty, 1993). Besides, those
work demands can consist of ''role conflict and ambiguity, role overload, and work pressure'' (Witt,
Andrews & Carlson, 2004, p.150. And those concepts are important to keep in mind because when
work demands ends up exceeding the resources available, job performance is reduced. When it
came to highly conscientious workers, they had to sacrifice the quantity of their work but not the
quality of their work. These type of call center agents would be

When diagnosed with Mononucleosis, the doctor usually informs you to avoid any sports, except
swimming, because if you receive a blow to your spleen, it could rupture, requiring surgery.
Enlargement of the spleen occurs in 2 out of every 3 cases and is not uncommon. Signs of a
ruptured spleen include; pain in the left upper abdomen, feeling light headed, feeling like your heart
is beating fast and hard, bleeding more easily than usual and having breathing trouble.
The inflammation of the liver is detected by the blood tests taken and can be reduced by drinking
lots and lots of fluids, to flush out the toxins. A patient can detect liver inflammation by nausea,
vomiting, reduced appetite and jaundice. It is also possible to obtain rash–like symptoms, similar to
those of measles or scarlet fever. They can appear all over the body and are very itchy, much like
hives. A cortisone cream applied in small amounts to the small bumps can reduce the itch and
swelling. Severe scratching of the bumps can leave scars.
In about 2% of all cases, pneumonia is present. Encephalitis, meningitis or peripheral neuritis can
occur, but is usually uncommon. In some cases, the upper eyelids can swell, which is a common
finding among mono patients. In some cases, the urine may contain blood, but those are very rare

Understanding Vicarious Traumatization And Its Impacts
Drama therapy is defined as an intentional and systematic application of drama/ theatre processes,
products, and associations towards achieving therapeutic goals of symptom relief, emotional and
physical integration and individual/personal growth. Therefore, the goals of drama therapy are
established from psychotherapy and the tools to achieve these goals are derived from theatre

Case Summary: An Interview With A Korean Translator
The interview with Mr. Lee was conducted with a Korean translator in–person with World Services
Translator Mr. Veronica Lee. Mrs. Veronica Lee is married to her husband, Mr. Suk Lee. They both
operate the dry–cleaning business together in South Central Los Angeles on Vermont Avenue. She
said the business had been there for ten years. On Ms. Blanco's last day of work on April 8, 2016,
she came to work, but without any notice, she quit that same day because she was following her
doctor's advice to quit her job because of the chemicals used to perform the dry–cleaning process.
She claimed Ms. Blanco was not slated for any termination or any layoffs from the company or was
going to be suspended. During that same day, she brought her sister in with her to work, Ms. Yuliana

Neurologist Research Paper
What Does a Neurologist Do?
Overview:
We all have experienced pain at some point in our lives. Most of the time, an aspirin will help
alleviate mild muscle aches and pains, and normally it takes care of the occasional headache.
However, if other symptoms accompany the pain like numbness, dizziness, fatigue, or if you are
also having problems with bowel or bladder control, your primary care physician may refer you to a
neurologist. So just what does a neurologist do?

This profession requires a considerable understanding of physiology and anatomy along with other
body systems such as the digestive and endocrine systems, respiratory, and the cardiovascular
system. All this in depth knowledge is needed because anything affecting these systems could have
a direct impact on brain function and lead to neurological disease.
A neurologist starts an evaluation of a patient with a neurological exam, assessing basic brain
functionality, and evaluates each of the patient's peripheral nerve groups. This investigation yields a
better understanding about the location of problems in the patient's central nervous system. Thanks
to modern day health care advances, and new technology, these neurologists no longer have to rely
on just their talents when identifying the cause and location of affected regions based solely on
clinical examinations.
So what does a neurologist do? They may encounter patients who suffer a severe speech
impairment, or seizures, some may even have lost their ability to move their limbs. These medical
experts have the ability to cope with the stress that their patients are experiencing, while remaining
emotionally stable. The ability to recognize small symptoms and details enable neurologists to treat
disease in it's early stages, and perhaps even save the patients'

Lung Cancer : The Number Of Diagnostics And Deaths Of Cancer
Lung cancer leads with both the number of diagnostics and deaths of cancer. Although it is typically
caused by smoking, Lauren developed lung cancer because of the harmful chemicals and radiation
that she was exposed to on a daily basis. She began to experience a cough that would not go away,
chest pain, wheezing, shortness of breath, and even coughing up bloody phlegm. Some patients are
lucky. Cancer is caught in the first or second stage, but because the symptoms are not common or
regular until a later stage, it sometimes goes undetected until it is too late. Lauren was diagnosed
with stage 3 because she was unable to detect any problems early on. In Jane E. Brody's article,
"Screening, and Enabling, Smokers" she interviewed Dr. Russell P. Harris, who stated, "'At best,' he
said, 'screening might reduce lung cancer deaths by 8,000 a year. But in the year 2000 alone,
smoking cessation reduced lung cancer deaths by 70,000'" (Brody 1). Cancer is not a death
sentence, and one can often prevent it from developing in extremely simple ways. If it is not
prevented, cancer patients go through a number of symptoms that drastically affect their life, and
their loved ones' lives. The first symptom begins with drowsiness and loss of energy.
Cancer takes a toll on the body. Fatigue is extreme tiredness and drowsiness, and is caused by
activities that require an abundant amount of energy to participate in and to heal from. In this case,

SLEEP DEPRIVATION & DRIVING
Nothing could prepare me for the news I received six years ago about the unexpected death of my
close friend Joey. I will never forget the night he died. How I had been with him just minutes before,
and how his death was totally unnecessary and preventable. A few weeks before Christmas in 2001,
Joey, myself and a few of my other co–workers were closing down the local restaurant we worked at
while attending Umass Lowell. It had been a busy night, and we didn't end up finishing work until
1am. Having worked all day, we were all extremely tired, and could not wait to go home. Most of us
were staying in Lowell at the time, but Joey had chosen to commute to campus and therefore had to
travel out to Reading. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On a more positive note, gains are being made towards the direction of holding those presumed
guilty of "drowsy driving" accountable for their reckless behavior. Unfortunately, it has taken a
series of deaths in order to trigger this movement. One of the first laws developed (Maggie's Law,)
was done so by the mother of 20 year old Maggie McDonnell who was hit head–on by a van driven
by a drowsy driver in 1997. Mrs. McDonnell (the mother of Maggie,) was infuriated to learn that
there was not a single law created to address the issue of vehicular homicide as a result of sleep
deprivation, and therefore set forth to create one. Her efforts were successful, and in 2003 the
nations' first "drowsy driving" law was implemented. Maggie's Law ammends the spectrum of
vehicular homicide to include those who who operarte a vehicle while sleep deprived. Under
Maggie's Law, offenders can be prosecuted if there is proof beyond a doubt that the operator fell
asleep while driving, or was awake for more than 24 consecutive hours. Conviction under this law
can carry a maximum penalty of ten years in prison. (Weaver 1).
As a future sleep technician, and a person who has suffered personally from the aftermath of a
friend falling asleep at the wheel, the topic of "drowsy driving" is one concerns me. Studies show
that there has been a significant rise in sleep–related crashes since the initiation of Maggie's Law in

Corruption And Relationship In The Masetto Of Boccaccio
Boccaccio was a very famous Italian writer and poet. One of his most famous pieces was the
Decameron. Although Boccaccio was a correspondent of Petrarch, their works are very different.
Both Petrarch and Boccaccio spoke about "lovers," but in every different ways. For Petrarch, a lover
is the one who is loved, regardless of how it turns out. It is someone you have a spiritual attachment
with. On the contrary, lover for Boccaccio is someone you have a physical connection with. He
describes lover as someone to mess around with. These views of love, along with the theme of
corruption, are reoccurring in Boccaccio's writings. According to Boccaccio, all people are corrupt.
He shows this in multiple ways in The Decameron. I found the story of the Masetto of
Lamporecchio really interesting. This is the story of a man who wanted to prove himself to others.
Masetto noticed there were a group of nuns who needed a gardener and thought that he would be an
ideal man for the job. Masetto knew it would be hard to get hired for a job around nuns, so he
decided to act deaf and mute. This plan of his works perfectly and he was hired as a gardener. When
some of the younger nuns noticed that Masetto was a good–looking man, they considered having
their way with him. The nuns had only heard about the pleasures and wanted to experience for
themselves. They thought this mute gardener would be the perfect person to try these pleasurable
experiences on, because he would not be able to tell anyone

Persuasive Essay About Homework

is being abused without producing its primary intended results? I highly urge you on behalf of all
students operating through this system; change is needed. The current use of homework may be
contributing to the decline in the motivation of students; therefore, interfering with their academic
potential. Evidently, there has been an abundance of research which shows how homework is
detrimental to a teen's self–confidence, social skills, overall health, and most importantly their
attitude towards school. Why am I directing this straight to the teachers? Teachers have full control
over what they hand out and what they demand from students. Teachers also have the authority to
practice their style of teaching and alter them accordingly. Every teacher should consider the
unhealthy and negative outcomes which come with the homework system. In every student's life, a
teacher is another character you will meet who is supposed to guide, motivate, and support you
through your journey in life. Teachers are rather more like mentors. However, this concept has
escaped for a majority of students because of the pressure and the endless amount of stress which is
constantly being stacked on top of each other. In 2013, researchers from Stanford surveyed more
than 4,300 students from high schools in California. One of the questions the researchers asked the

Graduation Speech
CHAPTER 4
It does not matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop. –Confucius Despite my tiredness and
brain fog, I was accepted to a graduate program in Washington, DC. When I was in high school, my
grandmother had taken me to our nation's capitol on one of our many spring break trips. I fell in
love with this beautiful city, its hustle and bustle and all the wonderful things it had to offer: the
museums, galleries and monuments. I decided that one day I would live there when I grew up.
Never forgetting that intention, I was excited to move there. I was hopeful that the change of
scenery would do me good. But shortly after I got settled in the city and started school, my appetite
began to dwindle. I was stricken with really bad abdominal pains that made me double over in pain.
The bloating became worse and I lost a lot of weight. The doctor decided I had developed food
allergies due to the fact that my face and neck would swell without warning. Itchy skin rashes would
often appear after I ate. There was no discernable pattern as to what foods caused these allergic
reactions. I would remove what I thought was the offending food from my diet but it did not seem to
matter. As a result, there was almost nothing that I thought I could eat. Mealtime became stressful.
The pleasure of eating that I always enjoyed completely disappeared. In desperation I began to eat
jars of baby food because I thought that might stop the swelling and discomfort, but it did not. The

Section 2.2 – Tracking Symptoms A large part of recovery of depression rests on the second party's
willingness to work. In this chapter tools adapted from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will be
presented to the listener and the listener can then help guide the second party through some
exercises. Remember to continue listening to the second party through applications of active
listening along with providing specific exercises or resources. Tracking symptoms is a very good
baseline to start off with. Often the intensity of symptoms will fluctuate and tracking when they
fluctuate can help someone understand why they are fluctuating. Increases in symptoms are not a
bad or unusual occurrence but can be signaling towards a pattern of recovery. Sometimes a specific
reason can contribute to the increase which is important to identify but sometimes there is not an
identifiable reason. A decrease in symptoms can indicate that recent changes are making a positive
impact. For each section tally a score:

Strength Model Of Willpower Affect Us?
Willpower, synonymously referred to as self–control, or self–regulation, is a highly adaptive ability
which allows individuals overcome habits and regulate emotions, urges and actions. How does our
understanding of willpower affect us? Many modern researchers suggest that willpower is a limited
energy supply, and that this energy supply is common for all acts of willpower (making decisions,
controlling emotions, task performance). Baumeister's strength model of willpower suggests that
using willpower consumes an inner resource, leaving people with less willpower to exert on
subsequent tasks (Baumeister et al, 1998). But what about the opposite? If we tell individuals that
performing an effortful task could improve performance on the subsequent task – would this show
otherwise? How do our different beliefs about willpower affect us?
Perhaps people that differ in their understanding of willpower use the resource differently. Carol
Dweck and a team of researchers at Stanford University set out to test whether or not these
competing beliefs of willpower would affect subsequent acts of willpower (Dweck, 2010). In the
experiment, they labelled terms "limited–resource theory and nonlimited–resource theory" to
represent the competing beliefs of willpower. The limited–resource theory suggests that willpower is
a limited resource, and of course the non–limited resource theory is the opposite. Multiple studies
were conducted in a classic laboratory paradigm. It was found

Essay about The Football Player Duane Hanson
What force is so strong that it has the power to bring even the strongest man to his knees? What
force plagues the workforce at all hours of the day? What force prevents continuous work at all
times of the day, making us bow to the night as if to say "We are not strong enough"? That force is
exhaustion, the most terrible and rarely conquerable force on earth. As I stood staring at such a life–
like sculpture in the confines of a briskly chilly art museum corridor, I could only imagine the
amount of exhausted nights the sculptor had to endure to create his extremely exhausted
masterpiece. The sculptor Duane Hanson and his piece "The Football Player" most–certainly shared

The player shown holds the cup loosely with two fingers. Parallel to the physical state exemplified
in "The Football Player", I located a similarly themed group of sculptures entitled "Korean War
Veterans" by Frank Gaylord on Artstor.org. The group of large sculptures is made up of eight life–
size soldiers of the Korean war–era. Dressed in rain parkas and grim faces while holding their
weapons, the soldiers show a generally exhausted state, most likely from their constant battles. One
soldier is pictured giving the lower–ranking soldiers orders in their freeze–frame of war, with the
others not even acknowledging their commands with eye contact, instead staring straight ahead or
into space. The soldiers all have quite exhausted expressions and mannerisms, such as squinting
eyes and slouched postures, which help to magnify their tired states. The grey color of the unpainted
stone also helps to darken the tone of the piece. The parallels in the expressions of the various
warriors shown in the two pieces on the football field and on the battlefield brought up an intriguing
idea to me. How does the body and mind respond to the extreme levels of exhaustion caused by
their respected stressful situations? How does a human being survive in such an extreme
environment without driving oneself over the edge? Exhaustion

States population, and presents with symptoms including depressed mood, loss of interest or even
apathy, negative thinking, sleep disruption, and drastic weight gain or weight loss in a short amount
of time. There are multitude of medication options, known as antidepressants, as well as alternate or
integrated treatment options, which include counseling and exercise (Preston, O'Neal, & Talaga,
2017). For the purpose of this paper, the author will examine the case of John, and focus on an
appropriate psychopharmacological intervention for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to John's co–occurring symptoms, particularly fatigue, Bupropion has been shown to
significantly treat this cluster of symptoms, which much reduced instances of symptom relapse than
with other medication options (Gaynes et Al, 2011). Fluoxetine (Prozac) may have been an alternate
choice for medication due to similiarities with activating effects; however, in considering John's
concerns surrounding potential sexual dysfunction, Bupropion has reduced instances of this
occurring as well as positive therapeutic effect (Preston, O'Neal, & Talaga, 2017).
Counselor's Role Since John is not currently on medication at this time, a counselor's initial role
would be one of support and focusing on having the client explore concerns, hesitations, and their
own thought processes surrounding pros and cons of medications. In John's case, his male gender
and concern surrounding sexual functioning is one that needs careful attention paid. Berger, Addis,
Green, Mackowiak, and Goldberg (2013) cited the correlation of societal and cultural masculine
traits with mental health treatment, compliance, and help–seeking. John has already taken the first
step on his own accord in term of help–seeking, which may signify a deeper seriousness to symptom
presentation when considering

Biopsychosocial Summary of Danny's Experience with Chrons Disease

  • 1. Observation And Biopsychosocial Summary The first initial stage Danny went through was anger and personally questioned his existence. Throughout his anger, I witnessed the frustrated by the way he was describing his experience with having Chrons. He described to me the type of pains he would go through before going through a flare up. "Imagine you are sitting at home, your sweating, you're in a fetal position and it feels like there is a knife inside and you can't take that knife out" (Danny, 2016). This part of the interview, I knew Danny was going through anger because this stage illustrates how angry Danny was with the symptoms he would feel. Danny look for ways to avoid the disability. Psalm 23 Psalm 23 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. How can we read Psalms 23 and then make the following statement that is found in this week's lesson. Our lesson explains that there is a very common problem that is shared by a large percentage of the American population. How common is this week's discussed problem? Well to begin with it is reported that fifty percent of Americans in our common age group of over fifty, suffer from this problem. But in truth, it is a huge problem for all ages and economic groups that are found in America. When you lay down at night are you one of the fifty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hebrews 4:16New International Version (NIV) 16 Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. When is God's grace available for us to call on? In our time of need, instead of us worrying unnecessarily, we need to be approaching God's throne for His assistance. The what, ifs of life are hard for all of us to handle. So maybe we should follow the advice found in Matthew 6:34. Matthew 6:34 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. So today, we had better be using our available energies to handle today's problems. When you arise tomorrow we will face new challenges. Did Jesus promise His disciples that they would live a perfect worry free always happy life? What Jesus did promise His disciples is found in Mark 13:11. Mark 13:11 Mark 13:11 11 And when you are arrested and taken to court, do not worry ahead of time about what you are going to say; when the time comes, say whatever is then given to you. • 3. How Is Teen Suicide Affected By Teen Depression? "Do you ever feel worthless?" Teen Depression is a very serious problem in the world. Most teens go through the day being depressed but, hide their feelings with a smile. And when people ask how they are doing, they fake a smile and say they are fine but, they are really not. Have you ever wondered if there was a cure for the people that are going through depression? If people could ever stop pondering about the negative thoughts in their minds, and questioning if their life is worth living for. How many kids in the world have gone through or having thoughts that would make them feel depressed? There are many kids in the world that have fought against depression and what it can make you do and how many people are dealing with it right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teen suicide is increasing and is caused by Teen Depression and if we don't stop what is happening now, it will just keep going and it may get worse for the next generation. But, most people don't realize it until the teen population may start to show a decrease, and dear families don't know why "children at such a young age" have given up their life and have committed suicide. There are many causes and effects that this may happen to a teen. We need to try and stop what is happening to teens before things get worse for teens. Hopefully, many teens can look back and realize that things could have been better if things like "depression" had never existed and to think that things could have been better. And you should be that change. If teen depression disappeared, imagine how the world would be. Imagine teens playing with team mates and having fun outside. If everybody could contribute and help out people that are depressed, maybe one day our society may look different and we would be able to see that change. "You gain Strength, Courage and Confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself. 'I have lived through this horror. Depression In Infants: Paul Trad's Study A human developmentalist, by the name of John Bradshaw once said, "Since the earliest period of our life was preverbal, everything depended on emotional interaction. Without someone to reflect our emotions, we had no way of knowing who we were". From the moment an embryo is implanted into a mother's womb, human life is dependent on the attachment of a caregiver, someone to provide it the necessary nutrients and nurturement for a healthy development. Over the course of time, researchers have conducted countless studies to determine whether which of the two was more vital, the fundamental necessities such as food and water or the attachment to a caregiver, for a typical development of not just the human species, but all mammals. At first, theorists refused to agree that depression could occur during infancy (Reynolds & Johnston, 2013). But the Diagnostic & and statistical manual of mental disorders in included an infant depression diagnosing criteria. According to the author, such criteria happen to be substantially similar to as those used in describing depression in adults. The hypothetical stance has thus developed from the earlier psychoanalytic notion that depression in infants could not exist because of the absence of superego to ideas of masked depression as well as depressive equivalents whereby infants were said to manifest depression by way of disorders and behaviors different from the ones seen in adults to today's nosology that suggests that infants have the ability to experience an effective condition which could mirror depression in ... • 6. A Discussion On The Illness Of Depression A Discussion on the Undiscussed Illness of Depression How do you feel when you read the term 'depression'? Do your feelings differ when you read the term 'influenza'? Perhaps your answer is yes, but why? Clinical depression is an illness just as the influenza virus is an illness. Clinical depression can be defined as a chemical imbalance in the brain, resulting in a pervasive and persistent low mood. In comparison, the influenza virus, more commonly known as the flu, can be defined as a viral infection of the respiratory passages resulting in coughing, the production of excess mucous, and a sore throat. The location and nature of each illness may differ from one another, but a victim is simply a victim. Thus I question why twenty– first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although depression may not cause a dry cough, runny nose, or a sore throat like the influenza virus, those experiencing clinical depression are no better off. Symptoms such as loss of appetite leading to weight loss or overeating leading to weight gain, social withdrawal, loss of interest in hobbies and activities of pleasure, as well as persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, worthlessness, guilt, or emptiness correlate with depression. These symptoms of clinical depression often lead to thoughts of death and suicide. For this reason, the fatality rate, compared to that of influenza, is much greater for clinical depression. To different extents, both clinical depression and influenza can make it hard for their victims to face the day. Treating and/or managing the influenza virus is far easier a task than treating and/or managing clinical depression. An enormous collection of research has gone into fighting the influenza virus. This research has resulted in vaccines that can protect one from contracting specific strains of the virus, anti–viral medications to treat specific strains, as well as a wide array of pain killers, decongestants, cough drops and anti–inflammatory's to ease one's symptoms. Far less research has been conducted on the topic of clinical depression; thus, less effective treatment is offered. Similar to influenza, a young adult in Canada ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Miller examined the poem further to find Owen's message to the reader, claiming, "In the final stanza, the poem once again shifts, now from the poet's dream to his address to a reader, presumed to be a person on the homefront who has experienced nothing of the horror of war and who still believes that war is glorious and ennobling" (Miller). In agreement with the statement of Owen aiming to dissuade the british population from running into the war blindly, Miller refers to Owen's audience and how he set the poem out as a warning and message of what war truly consists of. Owen writes in an unsettling form and structure, fluctuating the poem to be slow and fast, contributing to make the reader who never experienced the hardships of war, and trying to shepherd them away from their pro war mentality. Analyzing the poem, Miller explains, " Although he cannot literally bring this haunting about, through his poem and its grotesque details, he can force his reader to confront the ugly reality of war that masks behind fine phrases and edifying sentiments. • 9. Reflection Paper On Depression Depression; A mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. At some point in our lives we have all felt "empty", hopeless or general discontent that lasts nearly every day, for weeks on end. Some of us may even currently be in it today. Anxiety Disorders affects much our population. Depression is the common cold of mental disorders, it affects a large population, unfortunately only less than half are receiving help. Mexican parents do not accept that depression is a medical condition. Growing up I encountered many things that made me feel empty and hopeless. Looking back today at all the symptoms of depression I realize how many years I have been dealing with this illness. I remember five–year–old me crying from seeing my mom get beat by my father and feeling helpless. Eight–year–old me feeling alone because my parents had split and I'd never see my brother from that day forward. There were many different things that gave me this feeling but nothing hurt more than the day my mother left me. That day I knew what it was like to feel sad, alone, empty, restlessness, difficulty sleeping and so many more. Imagine being eleven years old and going from having the "ideal family" to feeling completely alone in this world? It was a horrible feeling. I suffered from it for many years, till this day I don't think I have fully healed. I started doing Folklorico Dance and Aztec Dance at the age of eight. Coming from a Hispanic household it was not common to talk about depression. According to an article published by CNN, Latinos and whites in the U.S. were both at 60 percent. Yet, only 30 percent of Latinos will consider or actually get help from a provider. Depression is common, it has been around for many years. I don't think that Latino families necessarily have chosen to not accept Depression as a mental disorder. I think that it has been disregarded because it is not an injury you can physically see like a broken leg or bloody nose. Most of their concerns revolved around what they would be eating that day. Sometimes it is possible to find out a person's mental state from reading their poetry. Violeta Parra was an artist in many senses including poetry. In her poem and song "Here's to Life", it appears that Parra is celebrating life but may hint at certain factors in her life such as racism, poverty, exhaustion, mixed emotions, and her love life that lead to her depression and impending suicide. An ironic tone is established in the poem by the speaker giving contradictions to the things she is grateful for. The first line of every stanza starts with the phrase "Thanks to the life that has given me so much" (1). This phrase alone seems to be genuinely grateful. The speaker ... The first sounds she talks about are generally thought of as appealing sounds like crickets and birds. She then goes on and describes loud and unsettling sounds "Hammers, turbines, barking, squalls" (14). Very few people would consider these pleasant sounds and many would avoid hearing them. They also seem to suggest a low–income area that is perhaps near to construction or a factory. I do not know if the speaker is from a place of poverty but even if she is not, this section appears to be referencing poverty and poverty is reason to make someone unhappy. Exhaustion is another part of the speaker's life that is that lead to the conclusion that the speaker was unhappy. This is when she talked about being thankful for walking. She names all of these cool places to walk such as beaches and mountains. She names places that allude to her having traveled all over the world and yet she describes her own feet as tired. If one was to describe their adventures they might say after a long day of walking they were tired but the way the speaker talks about her tired feet is not that they became tired from walking but that they were always tired. However, it to be taken into consideration that persons infected with the rhinovirus infection are contagious and people that are involved with the infected should take the necessary precautions. Persons with rhinovirus infections are almost always treated as outpatients. These outpatients may limit their activity during the course of the infection and symptoms are usually improved within 48–72 hours after the onset of symptoms. The usual course of this specific illness lasts about 6–10 days. After the rhinovirus runs its course, the expected outcome is that the individual should be fully cured, as the human rhinovirus does not typically produce a long–term illness. It was designed as a two–lane eye–bar suspension type bridge, measuring 2,235 feet in total length, including the approaches. The bridge was the first eye–bar suspension bridge of its type to be constructed in the United States. [26] Figure 4.1: The Bridge before collapse. [26] During the early evening of December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed during a period of heavy traffic and 46 people were killed. Another nine people were injured. Of the 37 vehicles on the bridge, 31 fell during the collapse. After some forty years of service, the Point Pleasant Bridge collapsed without warning. [27] Figure 4.2: The Bridge after collapse. [26] The bridge was constructed of carbon steel, which tends to crack. Many cracks were found throughout the bridge among extensive corrosion. Upon investigation, it was found that the collapse was due to a defective eye–bar that experienced a cleavage fracture in the lower part of its head which was resulted from stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue. [26] Since the eye–bars were not designed to be redundant, failure in one eye–bar would disrupt the continuity of the suspension system. This disruption is what caused the bridge to collapse suddenly. The location of the flaw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fibromyalgia syndrome impairs the quality of life of two to four percent of the population and affects predominantly females with 9:1 female to male ratio (citation needed Whit et al. 2015). These issues can come as a negative outcome to the organization and employees in the area of their performance at work, absent days off, and finally leaving the employment position takes a toll on both sides of the equation. Someone's job performance is correlated with conscientiousness, which is the personality trait of being careful or attentive and the satisfaction a worker has at work. She began to experience a cough that would not go away, chest pain, wheezing, shortness of breath, and even coughing up bloody phlegm. Some patients are lucky. Cancer is caught in the first or second stage, but because the symptoms are not common or regular until a later stage, it sometimes goes undetected until it is too late. Lauren was diagnosed with stage 3 because she was unable to detect any problems early on. In Jane E. Brody's article, "Screening, and Enabling, Smokers" she interviewed Dr. Russell P. • 28. Corruption And Relationship In The Masetto Of Boccaccio Boccaccio was a very famous Italian writer and poet. One of his most famous pieces was the Decameron. Although Boccaccio was a correspondent of Petrarch, their works are very different. Both Petrarch and Boccaccio spoke about "lovers," but in every different ways. For Petrarch, a lover is the one who is loved, regardless of how it turns out. It is someone you have a spiritual attachment with. On the contrary, lover for Boccaccio is someone you have a physical connection with. He describes lover as someone to mess around with. These views of love, along with the theme of corruption, are reoccurring in Boccaccio's writings. According to Boccaccio, all people are corrupt. He shows this in multiple ways in The Decameron. I found the story of the Masetto of Lamporecchio really interesting. This is the story of a man who wanted to prove himself to others. Masetto noticed there were a group of nuns who needed a gardener and thought that he would be an ideal man for the job. Masetto knew it would be hard to get hired for a job around nuns, so he decided to act deaf and mute. This plan of his works perfectly and he was hired as a gardener. When some of the younger nuns noticed that Masetto was a good–looking man, they considered having their way with him. The nuns had only heard about the pleasures and wanted to experience for themselves. They thought this mute gardener would be the perfect person to try these pleasurable experiences on, because he would not be able to tell anyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Persuasive Essay About Homework Can you agree that lately "homework" is being largely misguided? Can you agree that "homework" is being abused without producing its primary intended results? I highly urge you on behalf of all students operating through this system; change is needed. The current use of homework may be contributing to the decline in the motivation of students; therefore, interfering with their academic potential. Evidently, there has been an abundance of research which shows how homework is detrimental to a teen's self–confidence, social skills, overall health, and most importantly their attitude towards school. Why am I directing this straight to the teachers? Teachers have full control over what they hand out and what they demand from students. Teachers also have the authority to practice their style of teaching and alter them accordingly. Every teacher should consider the unhealthy and negative outcomes which come with the homework system. In every student's life, a teacher is another character you will meet who is supposed to guide, motivate, and support you through your journey in life. Teachers are rather more like mentors. However, this concept has escaped for a majority of students because of the pressure and the endless amount of stress which is constantly being stacked on top of each other. In 2013, researchers from Stanford surveyed more than 4,300 students from high schools in California. One of the questions the researchers asked the students was; did you experience any ... Both Austroad and AASHTO are used for pavement design to design the pavement layers but both have different methodology and assumptions. So that, the research will be the focus and compare on their methodology and assumptions. According to both assumptions, a simple road that been modelled by using the two type of software such as CIRCLY and KENLAYER. Moreover, the mechanistic design is a rational and scientific fundamentals design. This design is also very flexible and portable for all the pavement design. Furthermore, mechanistic design can be known as semi–empirical in pavement design. For the mechanistic design process, the first process is about the design traffic (ESA). To design the traffic, traffic loading is the main parameter to be known. Traffic loading contains four type of design such as seal design, highway pavement design, airports design, ports and log handling yards. Seal design is using the equivalent light vehicles, for examples to converts the heavy vehicles to equivalent light vehicles (ELV). Highway pavement design is using heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) only and converted to Equivalent Standard Axles (ESA) but ignore the light vehicles. Airports design only use the special loading formula. For ports and log handling yards, they are using the 4th power rule only for converting the loads without using the ESA. The second process is a proposed pavement model. The pavement model includes the ESA loading and the layers defined by E, v and h. pavement model also includes the anisotropic and ... • 34. Graduation Speech CHAPTER 4 It does not matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop. –Confucius Despite my tiredness and brain fog, I was accepted to a graduate program in Washington, DC. When I was in high school, my grandmother had taken me to our nation's capitol on one of our many spring break trips. I fell in love with this beautiful city, its hustle and bustle and all the wonderful things it had to offer: the museums, galleries and monuments. I decided that one day I would live there when I grew up. Never forgetting that intention, I was excited to move there. I was hopeful that the change of scenery would do me good. But shortly after I got settled in the city and started school, my appetite began to dwindle. I was stricken with really bad abdominal pains that made me double over in pain. The bloating became worse and I lost a lot of weight. The doctor decided I had developed food allergies due to the fact that my face and neck would swell without warning. Itchy skin rashes would often appear after I ate. There was no discernable pattern as to what foods caused these allergic reactions. I would remove what I thought was the offending food from my diet but it did not seem to matter. As a result, there was almost nothing that I thought I could eat. Mealtime became stressful. The pleasure of eating that I always enjoyed completely disappeared. In desperation I began to eat jars of baby food because I thought that might stop the swelling and discomfort, but it did not. In this chapter tools adapted from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will be presented to the listener and the listener can then help guide the second party through some exercises. Remember to continue listening to the second party through applications of active listening along with providing specific exercises or resources. Tracking symptoms is a very good baseline to start off with. Often the intensity of symptoms will fluctuate and tracking when they fluctuate can help someone understand why they are fluctuating. Increases in symptoms are not a bad or unusual occurrence but can be signaling towards a pattern of recovery. Sometimes a specific reason can contribute to the increase which is important to identify but sometimes there is not an identifiable reason. A decrease in symptoms can indicate that recent changes are making a positive impact. For each section tally a score: Depression Inventory

  • 37. Strength Model Of Willpower Affect Us? Willpower, synonymously referred to as self–control, or self–regulation, is a highly adaptive ability which allows individuals overcome habits and regulate emotions, urges and actions. How does our understanding of willpower affect us? Many modern researchers suggest that willpower is a limited energy supply, and that this energy supply is common for all acts of willpower (making decisions, controlling emotions, task performance). Baumeister's strength model of willpower suggests that using willpower consumes an inner resource, leaving people with less willpower to exert on subsequent tasks (Baumeister et al, 1998). But what about the opposite? If we tell individuals that performing an effortful task could improve performance on the subsequent task – would this show otherwise? How do our different beliefs about willpower affect us? Perhaps people that differ in their understanding of willpower use the resource differently. Carol Dweck and a team of researchers at Stanford University set out to test whether or not these competing beliefs of willpower would affect subsequent acts of willpower (Dweck, 2010). In the experiment, they labelled terms "limited–resource theory and nonlimited–resource theory" to represent the competing beliefs of willpower. The limited–resource theory suggests that willpower is a limited resource, and of course the non–limited resource theory is the opposite. Multiple studies were conducted in a classic laboratory paradigm. It was found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay about The Football Player Duane Hanson What force is so strong that it has the power to bring even the strongest man to his knees? What force plagues the workforce at all hours of the day? What force prevents continuous work at all times of the day, making us bow to the night as if to say "We are not strong enough"? That force is exhaustion, the most terrible and rarely conquerable force on earth. As I stood staring at such a life– like sculpture in the confines of a briskly chilly art museum corridor, I could only imagine the amount of exhausted nights the sculptor had to endure to create his extremely exhausted masterpiece. The player shown holds the cup loosely with two fingers. Parallel to the physical state exemplified in "The Football Player", I located a similarly themed group of sculptures entitled "Korean War Veterans" by Frank Gaylord on Artstor.org. The group of large sculptures is made up of eight life– size soldiers of the Korean war–era. Dressed in rain parkas and grim faces while holding their weapons, the soldiers show a generally exhausted state, most likely from their constant battles. One soldier is pictured giving the lower–ranking soldiers orders in their freeze–frame of war, with the others not even acknowledging their commands with eye contact, instead staring straight ahead or into space. The soldiers all have quite exhausted expressions and mannerisms, such as squinting eyes and slouched postures, which help to magnify their tired states. The grey color of the unpainted stone also helps to darken the tone of the piece. The parallels in the expressions of the various warriors shown in the two pieces on the football field and on the battlefield brought up an intriguing idea to me. How does the body and mind respond to the extreme levels of exhaustion caused by their respected stressful situations? How does a human being survive in such an extreme environment without driving oneself over the edge? Exhaustion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are multitude of medication options, known as antidepressants, as well as alternate or integrated treatment options, which include counseling and exercise (Preston, O'Neal, & Talaga, 2017). Due to John's co–occurring symptoms, particularly fatigue, Bupropion has been shown to significantly treat this cluster of symptoms, which much reduced instances of symptom relapse than with other medication options (Gaynes et Al, 2011). Fluoxetine (Prozac) may have been an alternate choice for medication due to similiarities with activating effects; however, in considering John's concerns surrounding potential sexual dysfunction, Bupropion has reduced instances of this occurring as well as positive therapeutic effect (Preston, O'Neal, & Talaga, 2017). Counselor's Role Since John is not currently on medication at this time, a counselor's initial role would be one of support and focusing on having the client explore concerns, hesitations, and their own thought processes surrounding pros and cons of medications. In John's case, his male gender and concern surrounding sexual functioning is one that needs careful attention paid. Berger, Addis, Green, Mackowiak, and Goldberg (2013) cited the correlation of societal and cultural masculine traits with mental health treatment, compliance, and help–seeking.
