4. What is Social Work ?
Generally Social Work profession is considered as some
philanthropy activities ; such as distributing cloths, blankets,
helping the poor by giving them food, shelter etc.
But Social work is not just a philanthropy activity it is a
profession which is based on certain code of ethics , values,
principles.
According to Friedlander:- Social work is a professional service ,
based on scientific knowledge and skill in human relations,
which assists individuals, alone or in groups, to obtain social and
personal satisfaction and independence.

Social Work is a helping activity.
It is undertaken by an individual or an organization
of individuals.
It has a scientific knowledge base.
