investigate the ways black people resisted their ill–treatment. I will do this by investigating different time periods between the Middle Passage and the

The conditions on that ship were unsanitary and of poor life quality, that many were struck with various illnesses. When many of the slaves aboard felt
their growing despair, they attempted to resist their oppression by ending their lives so that they may mess with the slave business. This is evident in

One aspect of life for black people in the United States of America that has always remained consistent is white racial hostility. A history of slavery,
segregation, unequal protection of the law, and second class citizenship inflicted by a white power structure that dominates on a national level has

Every state–sanctioned institution works to use black bodies as tools for the production of capital in any form, yet simultaneously exploits and

expression which shapes black worldview and public opinion, but this simply makes black people more comfortable with their oppression and less
involved in politics.

contemporary media. Hispanic Americans and Black Americans are two ethnic groups that I've recognized on having that stereotypical image in the

There has never been two men who fought for the same cause yet had two completely different views such as Martian Luther King and Robert
Williams. These two men strived to bring equality to Black Americans. King believed in peaceful protest that made lawmakers and legislation
realize that there was an issue that needed and had to be addressed in order to bring about social equality. Williams on the other had believed that a
personal war was the only way to "fix" the issues between Black Americans and White Americans. Martian Luther King Jr. was born and raised in
Atlanta to a Baptist church going family. King's father was an intimidating man who was quoted for saying that he "would make something out of
[Martian] even if he had to beat him to death" while "whooping" King one day as a child. But still King was inspired by his father's challenging nature
towards others ignorance. For example King tells about when he was a boy his father and him were pulled over and the police officer referred to King

Diversity is now, more than ever before, at the forefront of the American conversation. Black people have been slowly but surely making gains in
today's society and in ways that were not possible before. African Americans are more educated and more affluent, and more important as consumers
than ever before. By 2017, they are expected to have a spending power of 1.3 trillion dollars (Resilient, 2013). Young, influential, and brand loyal, this
group should be the target of many companies. Interestingly enough, there has not been much of an effort on the part of marketers to appeal to this
growing group. Additionally, the lack of diversity as well as the alienation ofblack people in the media is not doing much to allow a wider range of
companies to reach them. Black Americans are a powerful group, and smart marketers will put a focus on investing in them to increase their market
share.
It is important that people learning about the black customer understand the diversity of the black population in America. Since 1990, the black
immigrant population has nearly doubled, with 3.8 million living in the country now. This is almost 9% of the black population. This is only going to
continue – "by 2060, the U.S. Census predicts that one out of six U.S. blacks...will be immigrants" (Increasingly Affluent, 2015, p. 12). This is

My definition of culture is your environmental and social background peered with your experiences. Culture is an essential ingredient in forming
identity and self–awareness. The environment can create One's culture that they reside in, the way they are raised, or a collective of blended
surroundings.
I am West Indian, and I identify with black/African Americanculture. However, within my travels, and experiences, I realized that many different forms
of culture exists within diverse communities. Being born as a Jamaican, my definition of culture before coming to the United States was different.

Don't' get me wrong, a person who is being discriminated against doesn't have a responsibility to educate or inform their discriminator (it is never the
job of the oppressed to stop their own oppression), but I suggest that we merely can't disconnect from the event; for disconnection breeds further
ignorance. When I was told I talked white, my natural instinct was to get offended, think the racial divide was hopeless, and then passive aggressively
speak in a British accent. What I've come to understand, however, is that in these moments, revealing more about myself is exactly what's needed. My
response to being told I "talk white" has now become a non–confrontational, genuine question: "How do you think black people are supposed to talk?
Because for me, every black person I've ever known talks like I do." This is either met with defensiveness or apologies or a genuine desire to

school to prison pipeline, then identify Ella Baker's theory in the Black Freedom Struggle, and finally define what freedom means. It's the American
dream to own a house with beautiful white fences and yard and live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can live up to that dream.

comes stamped upon "The Dream," Coates provides impermeable evidence as to why black identity is not only more invested in history than white
identity, but more importantly why it is the investment to be made in "The American Dream." The history of black identity is commonly associated
with slavery, violence, and segregation. While Coates brought these associations to the table aware of how unjust they were, he found that the more
alarming correspondence lied within the reasons why. It is undeniable that history has given "blackness" various underlying
connotations–impoverished, uneducated, and as being the "below of [the] country" (Coates 106). The influence began as early as the onset of the
Civil War, when "stolen" black bodies were an accepted form of currency and even America's finest leaders were experts of the trade (Coates 101).
