The song I have picked to do is ‘Nantes’ by
Beirut
The reasons why I have picked this song is so I
can challenge myself. I haven’t done an filming
work like this. I think I can apply the skills I
already have for this. The skills I’m thinking of is
my knowledge of digital technology. I can use
my interest in cameras. I will be able to set up
the camera accordingly for each shoot. This will
help with the editing and the look of the final
production.

Here are the lyrics of the song that I’m
going to use. The narrative of this is
about the singer not seeing his lovers
smile. This song is also based in Nantes
which is a town in France.
The song has a French verse in it. It is a
conversation between a women and a
man. The conversation is:
Women - Oh no, I beg you, we should not be at your place,
Man - I assure you that it is not important.
Women - No! let me go! / let go of me!
Man - But what have you done today?
Women - men disgust me. You only think that.
Genre


The genre that my music video will come
under is narrative. I plan to have a story in
mine. As my song 3:30 long I will extend
this to around 4/5 minutes. This will mean
I will create a story that the song will fit
into. An example of this music video genre
is Arctic Monkeys ‘When the sun goes
down’. http://vimeo.com/51687474
Poster


For my poster idea I will put it where my
audience will be. I’m going to put it on the
internet instead of a physical display. This will
target my Audience more. Also as my film will be
streamed online it could direct the audience
there. For music videos there are not many out
there. This is breaking codes and conventions
as it’s not the norm. I have found some and they
are on the next page for examples.
Examples of existing music video
posters
Conventions of a music video
poster


As you can see in all of these examples
they include the name of the song, the
artist’s name and photo, and the realise
date. I will take all of these into
consideration when making my poster.
These are vital for when people if they
want to look up the video.
My Poster


My poster will be different to the norm. The
reasons behind this is that I don’t actually have
the band to photograph. This means I will have
to use the actor from the video. This isn’t a
problem for me but it will break convention. This
may work out as a positive. However a
disadvantage I can think of is that when people
look at these posters they recognise the band so
they look further into it.
Where my poster is going to be


I haven’t decided what poster I am doing yet but
there is loads of possibilities. I will do a post after
this going through ones I would like to do and
find out the pros and cons of each. The list of
posters types and genres I could produce are:
offline: Billboards, Magazines, Public transport
(inside and out), flyers & leaflets: online I could
produce social media posters, pop-ups, viral
ads, banners.
My intentions
I have an A-Level in Photography and an AS in
media. This will help me with my poster making
as I have knowledge of photo shoots. My
knowledge of camera technology is good
enough so I can plan my shoots around the
setting and lighting I pick. I will be doing my
magazine review online and my poster offline.
This will show my ability to do both. However my
online abilities aren’t as good as my offline as it
will be new to me.
