MINUTES, EACH GROUP MUST GO BACK TO
THEIR ASSIGNED SEATS AND WILL PREPARE
FOR A SHORT REPORT.
5. FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION
Basically, there are five functions of communication. These are
control, social interaction, motivation, emotional expression,
and information dissemination.
1. Regulation/Control – Communication functions to control
behavior.
2. Social Interaction – Communication allows individuals to
interact with others.
3. Motivation – Communication motivates or encourages
people to live better.
4. Emotional expression – Communication facilitates people’s
expression of their feelings and emotions.

convey information
6. 1. REGULATION/CONTROL IN
COMMUNICATIONOccurs when an individual is quite uncertain towards
another’s expected behavior that may be unusual from
the usual friendly, initial encounters.
3 developmental stages:
1. The regulation of self by others (a person is being
controlled by others)
2. The regulation of self by self (a person is controlling
himself/herself)
3. The regulation of others by self (a person is
controlling others)
Example: In a job interview, a sensitive applicant in this
situation is likely to manage his or her behavior very
