What is the STaR Chart? It is a survey that all Texas teachers must take yearly regarding schools’ use of technology The questions on the STaR Chart survey are based on the four key areas of the Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 The STaR Chart is used to follow the progress made by schools in those four areas Click arrow to continue Click back arrow to go back to last slide
What is the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020? It is a plan published by the Texas Education Agency to help get Texas schools up to speed when it comes to using technology  As educators, it is our job to teach the students to participate in the real world successfully in competition with the rest of the world If you are wondering what the Texas Long Range Plan looks like just click on the title above. What this has to do with EMES! EMES has taken the STaR Chart survey for the last couple of years Our results have varied year to year Here is a chart of our results the last few years: Click arrow to continue Click back arrow to go back to last slide
What do the STaR Chart Results Mean? Dev=Developing Technology Adv=Advanced Technology There are 4 levels of progress (Early Tech, Developing Tech, Advanced Tech, and Target Tech) Each Key Area can score up to 24 points total Ideally all schools in Texas would be at the Target Technology level in all Key Areas Click arrow to continue Click back arrow to go to last slide
STaR Chart Results Summary for EMES EMES has all Key Areas at the Developing Technology level or higher The Teaching and Learning Key Area has moved up into the Advanced Technology level The Infrastructure for Technology Key Area is decreasing every year The Educator Preparation and Development Key Area is staying status quo   Click back arrow to go to last slide  Click arrow to continue
Improving Technology Progress for EMES  Ensure teacher knowledge of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 goals Add a technology section to the CIP that will help develop the Texas Plan goals for EMES Knowing that students respond to technology, the leaders of EMES need to focus on teaching/learning strategies that promote it Click arrow to continue Click back arrow to go to last slide
Keeping EMES in the Exemplary Status Area If EMES wants to stay Exemplary in the state rating, collaboration will need to take place so that students’ higher level thinking skills can be challenged; especially when using technology  Click back arrow to go to last slide  Click arrow to continue
