2. Before I started the MCBS program I
did not feel as though I could ever
attain my goals and that I would be
stuck working dead end jobs that I
felt trapped in.
3. A few years before I even thought of
attending Full Sail I finally made the
decision to get my High School diploma,
I had dropped out my senior year in
1993.
4. I had figured that I would feel better
about myself and that it would set a
good example for my sons to take that
step in getting my diploma.
5. I attained my diploma through an online
school and I felt that it was much easier
than going to an actual school, so once I
decided to take the next step in getting
my degree I knew that it would also be
online.
6. I always thought that I wanted to be an
attorney after watching shows like L.A.
Law and The People’s Court I developed
a fondness for the law.
7. But then I discovered writing, I began
writing poetry and short stories at a
fairly young age, this was a great way
for me to get out of my head and deal
with my problems.
8. When I was enrolling to be a freshman,
the high school I was attending offered
me the opportunity to join either the
school paper or writing for the
yearbook, but unfortunately at this time
I just did not care about school or
writing so I turned it down.
9. That has been one of my biggest regrets
especially since at that time, at my
school only juniors and seniors were
allowed to do either
10. However, my junior year I did write for
both my school paper and the yearbook.
11. Because of that I became interested in
journalism and the news, even at a
young age I made it a point to watch
news broadcasts and read newspapers
so that I knew what was going on in the
world.
12. Once I was able to write important
newsworthy stories for school I knew
that this is what I wanted to do with my
life.
13. I have even had a few things published
including something I wrote after 9/11
that was published in our local
newspaper on the year anniversary.
14. However, at this time I did not have
faith in myself to make a living being a
journalist.
15. Because of that my fascination with all
things media grew and I wanted to
become a news anchor or to write for a
newspaper, this was before the Internet
became so prominent in our society.
16. I even had the opportunity to become
friends with one of our areas top news
anchors; this was due to the fact that
she was on the committee for the group
home I was living in at the time.
17. In fact she had told me once I graduated
from high school and got my degree to
apply at her news station, but at that
time I just didn’t care about a career or
school.
18. However, as I got older I regretted my
decision to drop out and not get my
diploma or a degree.
19. Because of that I did not know how
much farther media could go, now you
have so many options to choose from
when it comes to media thanks to the
Internet which includes online schools
and if it was not for the Internet I would
not be able to do what I am doing now.
20. However, I was not sure if I could find
the right online University to achieve
my dreams of being a journalist.
21. Until finally I found Full Sail University
and in reading all of the information on
their web site and speaking to a
representative I knew that this was the
place for me.
22. I also knew that going into the Media
Communications program would be the
perfect fit.
23. I am now more than ever fascinated by
media and what it has to offer and I am
working towards my goal of becoming a
New Media Journalist.
24. I cannot wait to take what I am learning
in this program and apply it to the
outside world and to my career.
25. I am so very proud of myself in taking
this step and I know longer feel like I do
not have a purpose other than being a
wife, mother, and grandmother, not that
being those things did not give my life
meaning, but now especially since my
kids are grown, I feel like I have
something that’s all my own.
