The Creature In The Lagoon
The Creature in the Lagoon
If only Jacqueline and I had listened to our parents and not ventured into the lagoon, Elaine thought.
Elaine and Jacqueline were growing up in a condominium facing Lake Ontario in downtown Toronto on Queen's Quay Boulevard. Their parents,
Dennis and Roberta, were both lawyers. Elaine was fourteen and Jacqueline was sixteen. The lagoon in question was located at Hanlon's Point, next to
the Toronto Islands.
Dennis and Roberta had always warned Elaine and Jacqueline to stay away from the lagoon.
"The lagoon is not safe," Dennis cautioned. "It is private property, owned by the Harbour Commission."
"Why?" asked Elaine.
"Because the lagoon contains an amphibious creature," Roberta answered. "It is built like a man, but it looks like a fish. It stands upright with what
looks like legs, but it is scaly and has sharp teeth like a shark and claws instead of hands."
The parents' warnings seemed silly to Elaine and Jacqueline. Both girls thought it would be fun to explore the lagoon.
One day, Elaine and Jacqueline were watching on television an old movie called The Lagoon Creature. The so–called creature, the mysterious
man–fish, was half amphibious, half human, and resembled the creature their mother had told them about. Elaine was squirming with fear, although
Jacqueline was laughing.
"Do you actually believe in these creatures?" Elaine asked Jacqueline.
"No, I don't," Jacqueline answered. "The story on TV is made up, just like our parents keep telling us there is a man built like a fish in the lagoon. Our
friends from school walk around the lagoon all the time. I have never heard stories from them about an amphibious creature. They would laugh at this
story."
The next day, it just so happened that Dennis and Roberta were relaxing around the condominium's swimming pool. Elaine and Jacqueline decided to
go down to Eaton's Centre, but as they left their condominium building to get the Harbourfront bus to Union Station, they decided to take the bus in
the opposite direction to the lagoon, which was located near the Toronto Islands.
No sooner had the girls reached the lagoon than they saw something enormous splashing in it. Puzzled, they watched the water bubbles and the swirling
water. There

Myths, Morals, And Rules
Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every decision we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules
are shown and told is through myths. A myth is a traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how and why things
are the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the end of the story. As a child I'm sure you've
heard stories from your family whether a more unknown myth or common tale that you got something out of, whether it was learning something new,
or something you already knew that simply got reinforced. But if you're like me, then it'll take some time before you remember. Once I did remember

Also, my grandpa and Aunty Paning lived in Ilocos Norte, while my grandma lived in Manila, they were 407.64km, 253.31mi apart and they were
still told the same myths, with the exception of a few details. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is Sonia
Jackson, who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons' grandmother Dr. Natividad Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria
Jackson, Sonia's mother, who then told Sonia and her siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after
the Spanish invasion, but it's difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth is probably very old, to have gone through at least eighty–two years,
it could easily have existed for a century.
Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of
the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the origin
of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables where animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act
like rational beings to point out morals, this is the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because

The Human Golden Age : A Time Of Prosperity On Earth
Long ago, there was a time of prosperity on Earth. Humans lived longer, and their knowledge grew larger. Yet, through their knowledge, they lost
wisdom, thinking that the world was perfect. People became blind to the fact that all things have an end. Soon, they were brutally awoken to the fact
that they were not alone.
[2] One day, a meteor descended into the Earth's crust. The people studied it. They thought that it was just an ordinary rock, nothing they hadn't seen
before. That was, until the meteor cracked. The human golden age was over.
[3] All kinds of creatures spawned from the meteor, ravaging the Earth. Each one destroying everything in its path. People panicked, they thought it was

they had done to my world, how could they possibly be playing a child's game?," he thought to himself. While trying to solve this puzzler, he was
unaware that the creatures had seen him and were heading towards him.
[7] "Hi," said the creatures in unison. They looked like an alligator and a bear, two animals who used to live on Earth. That is, before the meteor
came. "I'm Russ," said the bear. "And I'm Porter," said the alligator." "Want to play soccer with us? We love to have fun all the time."
[8] "Shouldn't you be trying to kill me? After all, you're the ones who were destroying my world. I thought you were going to be some kind of hungry,
animal–eating, vicious monsters. Like that one," as he pointed to a creature that was trying to eat a fly. "Well, maybe a little more vicious than that one
though."
[9] "No," said Russ, "We're just some 'creatures', as you would say, trying to have some fun. The evil ones gave all of us a bad reputation."
"Actually, most of us are friendly. We wanted to leave the meteor right away to make friends, but the bad guys held us captive until they attacked. We
truly are sorry for ruining your world," Porter said. "Anyway, do you want to join our annual soccer tournament? It's really fun."

The Monster
I am eight years old, standing in front of the bathroom mirror. Inside, I see a creature with ferocious red eyes, bulging out of its sockets. Thousands
of swelling bumps envelope its body while dark, malevolent sags droop over its cheekbones. From the mirror's reflection, the creature appears to be at
peace, yet a wave of hostility emits from it at the same time. I slow down, carefully turning around to see the beast.
It's not there.
As I pivot back, I see the monster yet again – its weary eyes glancing unwaveringly into mine. However, I can see that we – the creature and I – are
both equally shocked. While my senses sharpen, I clench my fist – only to see the same from the creature.
Smack! Pain surges through me as the monster and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the rare cases that I couldn't, I'd be left with gushing red bruises on my hands as reminders.
Truth be told, there had never been a monster in the first place; it had just been me – and the mirror, of course. Unfortunately, it took me a couple days
to realize that.
Moreover, it wasn't until my first visit to Dr. Gao that I had truly begun making sense of these recurring events. According to her, I was experiencing
an allergic reaction known as hives. This reaction would envelope my body – from head to toe – with countless dome–shaped rashes that would
uncontrollably itch and multiply at an extraordinary speed. Fortunately, this was regarded to be a common allergy symptom – and at most a mild one.
Consequently, Dr. Gao prescribed me several drugs and antihistamines which she thought would help moderate my condition.
Then, things got out of hand.
Several days into my treatment, my hives showed no sign of recovery. While on a molecular scale my body may have been recovering, to the normal
viewer's eye, my condition only seemed to worsen. My mother's doubts began welling up. Soon enough, she began losing faith in Dr. Gao's wisdom –
along with her prescriptions, and Dad, who – nonetheless – was trained in biology, knew better than to argue with her.
I distinctly remembered how it all began. It was a typical Saturday morning. Nothing special. Dad was out shopping, Mom was tidying up the house,
and I was doing some homework. Then, the first raindrop came.

A Short Story : A Story?
Wake up Jax, wake up! This was the first thing I heard before a hefty bucket of water was discarded on to me. I woke up with distraught,
complaining that it was a Saturday and that I needed more sleep. I turned on my phone, noticing that the date on the screen read May 7, 2022. That
was when I realized, today is going to be one of the biggest days for me. I am going to be taking both my Math and English SAT. I felt ready, yet I also
had an uneasy feeling stuck inside me. I had been studying for the past 3 months, taking PSAT's and what not. I didn't have to go to my school to take
the SAT's for another 3 hours, soI decided, why not take a little nap before I go? JAX, IT'S 1:15 PM, YOU ARE GOING TO MISS YOUR SAT'S!
"This is just a dream," I thought, "I'm going to keep sleeping, there's no way I slept more than 3 hours already." Then it came, Slap!
"What the heck Kace," I exclaimed angrily, "no need to slap me as if I was a clown."
"Look at the time Jax!" He proclaimed, "this is a big moment in your life and your sleeping!"
I checked my time, 1:20pm. Quickly, I became distressed. I started packing my utensils and books in my bag, then rushed out of my house. One step
after another, I knew that if I didn't make it in time I wouldn't be able to take my SAT's, and my parents would ground me forever. I turned a corner,
and saw a shortcut through a forest to get to my school. I thought to myself, I think I can make it on time if I pass through there. I raced through forest,

Firefly The stars were exceptionally bright as I strolled along one of the many paths that led into the local park. The public gardens consisted of a

Trees bordered the natural area like a green palisade, keeping at bay the city's chaos and neon lights. One might forget the city even existed. Only the
park lights and the blinking glow of fireflies cast any illumination at all. To a mortal, all was quiet. A mortal could not see the night creatures making

There is a saying that goes 'Don't be afraid of the dark,' but the question is why should you be afraid? One reason why this saying came about is
because people believe that something non–human exists out there. People believe that witches, shapeshifters, hellhounds, ghosts, angels, demons,
jinns, and many more supernatural creatures exist. "Only 21 percent of Americans say they don't believe in the supernatural at all ("Paranormal Poll:

These are said to get a high reading of electromagnetic frequencies whenever a spirit is present. A lot of people think the readings are fabricated, from
the EMF detector having a malfunction and short circuiting from a wiring problem, but there is an explanation behind the readings. Einstein had
a theory that energy can be converted into matter and matter into energy ("Six Types of Hauntings"). Because people are made up of matter, on a
level it is believed that we in a way also exist as energy and this energy surrounds us while we live. This energy that surrounds us is sometimes
known as an aura. It surrounds us and projects our thoughts and feelings around us. When we die, people are said to lose six ounces instantly.
Some people believe that the reason we instantly become lighter is because when we die the aura that constantly surrounds our bodies, leaves our
bodies ("Six Types of Hauntings"). Although many people doubt the existence of auras, it explains the weight loss at death and the reason why
ghosts can be picked up by EMF meters. Spirits tend to be peaceful, but slightly sorrowful , mourning a life that has passed them. The reasons why
a spirit may stay around is because it felt incomplete with it's previous life and still believes that it has a purpose to serve whether watching out for a
loved one, keeping watch over people who live in the spirits old house, or maybe even reliving moments of their life that they can't let go of yet. Most

Examples Of Solitude In Frankenstein
There are seven billion people on this earth and yet there is still a possibility of being isolated. The theme of solitude is something everyone has
experienced once in their life. Some people however choose to be alone and others do not have a choice. Solitude can either be a good or bad
experience depending on how long it lasts. A certain amount of people think they can live their whole life alone where on the other hand there are
misfits from society who have no choice then to be alone. In the novel Frankenstein, Victor, the creature, and Walton all have experienced some form of
solitude.
In the beginning of the novel, Victor is alone creating the creature and he ends up being too immersed in his experiment to be with his family and

Analysis Of The Centntaur By May Swenson
In May Swenson's poem "The Centaur," she talks about a little girl that uses her enormous mind to imagine herself transforming into a horse. The girl
is in a whole new world of her imagination as she rides through the hills of her backyard. Swenson allows readers to take part in the transformation
from human to horse that the adolescent girl described undergoes, thus emphasizing the importance of childhood and imagination on the woman's
identity and how strong and intelligent they could be.
In the poem, May uses the Greek mythological creature, the Centaur, as a symbol of the girl pretending to ride the horse and then became the horse
himself. A centaur is a half–man half–horse creature. Centaurs are strong creatures they stand for being strong, brave, and they have a hard identity
which reflects the girl's identity of having all these characteristics. Swenson makes it seem as though the girl herself is a Centaur. Words and
phrases like: "my hair flopped to the side like the mane of a horse"(line 29 to 30), "I shied and skittered and reared"(line 33),"I was the horse and
the rider"(line 38), "spanked my own behind"(line 40 ), and "my two hoofs beat a gallop along the bank"(line 41 to 42 ) . All these symbolize that

Morally Ambiguous Character In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley the creation can be viewed as a morally ambiguous character. When the creature was given life he was
benevolent and never wanted to inflict harm on anyone or anything. The actions of others shaped the creature to become an individual filled with so
much hate towards his creator he wanted him dead. The creature was molded to be a depressed and angry person who wanted to bring pain to those
who hurt him but mostly Victor. The creature's actions show his kindness throughout the novel but he also kills multiple people and feels a strong

Before our existence there were horrible, terrifying creatures called Monsters. Theses creatures may have been monstrous but they were not soulless.
Savage indeed but not without morals. These so called monsters may not have lived lawlessly but they lived with a love like no other. Then when man
was made from earth and women from bone, everything changed. The beasts of this earth were slaughtered and forced into hiding into the wilderness.
They were treated them like hideous beasts and so they became just that. They fled into the undiscovered wilderness. With man as king the beasts were

Similarities And Differences Between My Last Duchess And...
Lover and or Last
(A analysis of the similarities and differences in My Last Duchess and Porphyria's Lover)
"Murders always have 'rational' motives for murder, and murders always have some kind of personal relation with their victim" (Schmid). It is both
horrifying and interesting that the majority of victims have a close, personal correlation with their murderers. In My Last Duchess by Robert Browning

before the Duke can make the decision to marry or not to marry the Count's daughter he briefs the agent of the Count about his last Duchess. The
Duke wants to make sure that the next woman he will marry will be submissive and won't give him any trouble, unlike his last Duchess. In Porphyria's

Do you believe these two speakers have a disturbing mental state? Is there a difference between love and obsession? Can someone become so

Who do you think would have been the main audience for this work is today?(eg. general public, teachers, students, dealers, art critics, historians,
academics ). Explain. Why do you think it may appeal to this audience?
11.How do you think the audience would have viewed the work at the time it was constructed? What would be their perception of the work? (eg.subject
matter, technique, meaning)
The Greeks closely linked themselves to mythology. Many Greek pottery and sculptures depict the violent times they were in and that people should
remember their place in society. Audiences would have viewed these centaur engravings would have believed that there would be punishments and
follow their warnings. With head of a human and a horse body, people must have been slightly intimidated by them.
12.How do you think the audience would view the work today? Explain how their perception of the work may have changed from the time it was
created?

The Creature Monologue
"Right. There's been too much drama. We all need our rest," he said, holding back the impulsive yawns, all the while his brain working on a capture
and kill scenario. Maybe it was the mounting complications but the lack of a confirmed plan was beginning to test his patience. Originally he'd
foreseen giving chase again, cornering it with two or three others on horse–back, then moving in for the kill once it had no place to turn. The worst that
could happen would be if the creature was to return to his hidey–hole in the cliffs, in which case he could always blast it out? No, that wouldn't work.
Besides, it could make the edge of the land unstable if explosions were set off beneath it. Then again, would it not be worth it? It was something to...

Might there be a role for me to play?" he asked with a half senile and half–cheeky smile. He was barely able to perform in a pantomime let alone be

Actually, there might be something you could do. You publish pictures for the parish magazines, don't you? Holy symbols, bees, birds and what
nots?" He nodded, still grinning. "When we come back with the beast, you shall photograph it, top to bottom. You wouldn't want to see the thing
actually killed, would you?" "No, I'm not one for violence. But if I can help, I will. You let me know if you need anything from me, Nathaniel," he
said, turning to pews and picking up a wash–cloth from one of the centre row seats. "Will do." Nathaniel had only left for twenty minutes or so, paying
a visit to the local gun–dealer's humble store to get his two revolvers cleaned professionally and purchase some more bullets, but when he returned

Abandonment And Abandonment In Frankenstein
Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley in 1817, is a story of obsession, heartache, abandonment, vanity, and more. This is a fiction with many levels
and views for people of all ages, and it was assigned to our Senior English class. The novel is centered around the story of Victor Frankenstein and his
creation and the many trials and affairs they go through. Throughout the story, both characters make many choices that they shouldn't. However, when
you take into account all of the events that lead to those poor choices, I believe it's the creation that is most justified. To be abandoned and hated
simply because of your appearance, something you had no control over and can't change, is enough to turn anyone into a vengeful soul. This story
starts out with letters from Captain Walton talking to his sister about a strange man they found on an iceberg. This strange man had a very dark and
desolate story, and it was time it be told. This man was Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein was a scientist with a dismal past, and it all started with a
bolt of lighting. After seeing a bolt of lightning strike a tree by his home, Frankenstein became obsessed with electricity, and throughout the story, his
obsession grew to include all kinds of social sciences and the like. This leads him to college, and eventually to the worst decision of his life.
Victor makes catastrophic choice when he decides that he wants to make a new life form. Frankenstein becomes obsessed with making this new being

Mythical Creatures in the Sculpture, Legend and Myth by...
I.Description
The sculpture Legend and Myth by Damien Hirst is a pair of sculptures depicting two mythical creatures. Legend is a sculpture of the legendary
creature known as a Pegasus, and its counterpart, named Myth, which is a sculpture of a white unicorn. The medium that was used to create the two
sculptures was a combination of painted gold, silver, and also bronze. The sculpture Legend measures to be 4575 x 2590 x 2260 mm or 180.1 x 102 x
89 in and was sculpted in 2010, while its companion, Myth, measures 3590 x 2800 x 808 mm or 141.3 x 110.2 x 31.8 in and was sculpted in 2011,
which is close to the same size as the average horse you would see in a farmyard. According to my research, the last location that these two
sculptures were displayed was at the Chatsworth House in England. Both sculptures are flayed on the left side of their bodies, showing the anatomy
that lies within the creatures. The two sculptures face away from each other in show horse stances. Both have the flayed part that is showing the
inner parts of the creatures facing opposite directions as well. The color of the skin on these sculptures is white, and on the flayed portions of them,
the portions that are to be depicted as muscle are red, while the part that is to be bone is a golden color.
II.Analysis
Damien Hirst incorporated many elements of art into his creation Legend and Myth, including the form of the plinth that both of his sculptures stand
upon. The plinth creates the

The Creature's Narrative In Frankenstein, By Mary Shelly
The Creature's narrative in "Frankenstein", by Mary Shelly, reveals an array of information about the Creature as a character, and his true intentions.
This narrative gives us an in–depth view of the Creature's life and experiences up and until this point in the novel. The Creature's desire for a
companion reveals and conveys a variety of romantic characteristics. His request for a companion is not only justified, but is also Victor's
responsibility to him. Victor's abandonment of the Creature forced him to live a confused and lonely life as an outcast, and because of this it is
Victor's duty to right his wrongs. The Creature's narrative begins at the moment he awoke, and continues up until the moment he frames Justine for
the murder of William. The creature describes how he learned all that he knew from his travels and experiences. He explains how he learned that fire
provides warmth, but is painful to touch, that food is better when cooked, and that men not only fear him, but are violent towards him. During his
early days he is almost like a child learning things for the first time, except he has no parent to guide him on the right path. Upon ... Show more content

the cottagers, or the drowning girl, but all of this is overlooked because of his appearance. The Creature has been shown hatred and disgust from the

Creature Symbolism
Towards the latter part of the novel, the Creature symbolizes the point in the human psyche when Man starts to become inherently bad when he
gains more reward from doing wrong than he does from doing what is right. It is seen in his final moments with De Lacey's family. For a period of
several weeks, the Creature waits patiently as he observes De Lacey's family in order to connect with them and embody their language as his own, but
they eventually abandon him due to his grotesque form. In their first interaction with each them, he sees their expression as a "horror and consternation
on beholding [him]," (Shelley 122)[.] Agatha and Safie faint and scream at the sight of him next to their father as Felix proceeds to attack the Creature.
At this point, the Creature is at the point of no return as he realizes that he will never be accepted by any human and he is destined to live a life of
damnation. At this very moment, the Creature's innocence becomes so engulfed by a feeling of hatred and spite for humanity that he believes he can,
with pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants, and have glutted me with their shrieks and misery," (Shelley 124). Irving Buchen
describes this stage in the creature's life as an emergence of, "limited evolution of a human animal who exists solely in the hermetic seal of his
individuality within a natural, not a human, environment"(Buchen). This is another way of saying that the Creature has resorted to his savage instincts:

Analysis Of May Swenson's Poem 'The Centaur'
May Swenson's Common Denominator Imagine reading a poem and believing it means one thing, but the underlying message is something completely
different. Authors like to use different literary techniques to make a valid point, to make the reader feel a certain emotion, or even to share a distinct
memory with their reader. Poetry has helped authors focus their readers on their work by achieving themes that may portrayed in several pieces of
their work. In May Swenson's case, she used a variety of techniques to create different emotions for the reader, while expressing certain periods of her
life. May Swenson uses nature in her poetry to personify sexuality and make it into a repetitive theme in her work. Many of Swenson's critics can agree

As Swenson tries to connect the little girl riding a horse to a more private and personal scene, it can be agreed that she is using this as an allegory that
creates the poem's theme. In addition to the previous poem, Swenson also uses the same method to create and capture the same feeling and emotion. In
her poem "Sleeping with Boa," Swenson again uses a personified form of nature to render her risky sexual theme. A perfect example of how she
creates this image is when she states, "She likes my stroking hand. And she even lets me kiss." Swenson successfully conceives a sexual imagery while
standing by a simplistic nature–based poem. "Jumping off the bed, she shows me her behind," is a line that describes the boa leaving her owner and
the owner showing admiration. This erotic imagery expressed in her poem serves as a representation of recognition of desire and the willingness the
two characters express while they share that desire amongst themselves. There is a connection between the two main characters, the narrator and its
pet, which causes this to be analyzed as a more sensual relationship rather than the ordinary pet/owner relationship. Swenson uses the boa, a reptile
which is often feared by many, to show that even something so powerful can be delicate when it comes to a relationship like this. It is almost as if she
would like that fear to be forgotten and

Animal Testing Is A Catastrophe
"Animal testing is a catastrophe. Do you agree?" Animals play a significant role in our existence, they involve in food chain and help in the
sustainability of bio diversity. Unfortunately they entered the scientific field through the experiments of new drugs. The utilization of creatures in
exploratory investigations in the UK can be followed back at any rate similarly as the seventeenth Century with Harvey 's analyses on various creature
species intending to show blood flow. Crosswise over Europe, the utilization of creatures in experimental examination started to grow over the
nineteenth Century, to some degree upheld by the improvement of analgesics which had already made creature research incomprehensible. In 1876,
parliament passed the Cruelty to Animals Act, the principal enactment went for directing creature tests. Over the late nineteenth and the twentieth
hundreds of years, the extension of restorative science implied that the quantities of creatures utilized as a part of examination extended relentlessly,
quickened by the Medicines Act, 1968, which gave a clearer manual for the utilization of creatures in wellbeing testing in the wake of the Thalidomide
catastrophe. The quantity of creatures utilized rose to more than 5.5 million in 1970 after which indicate the numbers started decrease quickly. This
extensive development mirrored a developing therapeutic field; creatures had impact in most medicinal advances of the twentieth century including

The Creature Of The Beast
In France in the late 1760's, there was an atrocity that involved around one hundred animal–attack deaths caused by one creature, the infamous Beast of
Gevaudan. Per Jaime Hill, the beast was the size of a horse and looked like a bear, hyena, wolf, and panther hybrid. It had a long wolf or pig–like
snout. Many researchers believed there were at least two, or more than two, beasts roaming the area. The color of the beast changed every time the
beast was spotted; it would go from red to red with grey and white patches to red with stripes. Sometimes there would even be no red, it may just be
black or white. Locals believed it to be a werewolf, or a sorcerer who shapeshifted into a monstrous predator to feed on human flesh. The beast was also

June of 1767, a man said the beast could be killed, that he had found a way. He said he needed a holy bullet made of silver, blessed by a holy man.
He takes the ammunition into the forest and arrives back to the village with a wolf. Villagers agree it is the beast and no beast is spotted afterwards.
In 2000, historians notice things do not add up; a wolf cannot remove someone's clothes. In 2011, researchers concluded that Jean trained the wolf,
killed the people, and then killed the wolf to make it look like a beast. Still to this day, no one knows for sure what happened ("Mysteries at the
Museum" n.p.).
Per World of Mythology, the attacks of the beast started in 1764. People all around hunted every wolf they could find, hoping it would be the beast,
but the attacks continued. In 1765, Francois Antoine killed a large grey wolf, but the attacks continued Also in 1765, a doctor came across a man in a
wolf suit assaulting a woman and killed him but the attacks still went on. Finally, a man by the name Jean Chastel discovered that if a silver bullet is
blessed by a church, it could kill the beast. Chastel got three silver bullets blessed by the local church and went into the woods, returning with a
dead wolf. This was the final attack on a wolf by the time the attacks stopped. Chastel said he went into the woods and found the giant wolf. He was

that I'm not enjoying this, it's just that I can't disappear without a trace, Florence would worry," she said. "Actually, um, yes. There's a boat
leaving in two days," he said. "But you can telephone them before that." Winnie was relieved. She didn't really want to leave Newt and his
suitcase, but she knew that she needed to talk to Florence and William, and let them know where she was. "That's a huge relief, thank you," she
said, and Newt nodded and smiled. "This may sound odd," she began. "But I'm glad I fell into your suitcase. If I hadn't, I think today would have
been a lot more dull." Newt didn't really know how to respond. Nothing like this had happened before. So in an effort to be polite, he told her, "I'm
glad you fell into my suitcase as well." But it wasn't just polite, it was

Short Story On The Forest
I start running toward the forest. I am shaking as I run, I don't know what the forest holds, we have always been forbidden to go there. Mannix got
caught in there once and he refuses to talk about what he saw in there. I consider if it would be better to be dead or face the forest. The thought leaves
as quickly as it came as I fell Alaric's hand pull me forward. We come up along the edge of the forest. Behind us, we hear explosion after explosion. I
glance behind me. "Guys look," I say barely able to get the words out. Alaric and Mannix stop and we all turn around. The whole town is gone. Houses
are now replaced by burning balls of fire. Grass and trees now blackened. We didn't see a single other person or building. Once busy streets were now
void of activity. We could see where our school was supposed to be, it was gone. For a moment we mourned together, knowing if it had not been for
the sickness that overtook our house, we would have been at school, and we would be dead. I wonder if I would ever see my parents again. "Come
on," Aleric said as he pulls Mannix and me into the woods. I am too worried and shocked to be scared of what the forest holds. What will we do?
Where will we live? How will we survive this? I am only eight years old, Mannix only 9, even Aleric the oldest is only 13, how are we supposed to
survive something like this? How long do we have, how are we going die? I can't believe I am asking these questions. Chapter 3 I wake with a

Summary Of Don Sabo's 'Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain'
In Don Sabo's essay "Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain", Sabo's central claim states that society's pressure synthesizes males to accept and conform to
pain, whether that be external or internal with an underlying message to walk away from conformity. At the beginning of Sabo's essay, Sabo
mainly speaks about the external pain of his back, which started when he went out for football when he was only eight years old in the interest of
changing his physical appearance. While beginning at the age of eight, Sabo played until the end of his NCAA career, which ultimately, turned out
to be the result of Sabo's spinal fusion surgery, and also was the result of Sabo being "one of many men who got swallowed up by a social system on
male domination" (86). The system that Sabo commonly refers to is also known as patriarchy, which teaches kids to not only enjoy the pain, but to
inflict pain too. These teachings, according to Sabo, is the pain principal, which includes taking our anger out on other people and "limits our
emotional expression (86). Another part of these teachings include taking pain, and to take women, and take their place (87). Through all of this
information, Sabo is trying to make the inference that our Patriarchy system is corrupted and unfair. Women in this system are at the bottom of the
totem pole, and are even considered a prize for enduring the pain. This patriarchy system doesn't only exist in sports, but it also exists in the military,
business world, and in the

The Creature In The Lagoon

  • 1. The Creature In The Lagoon The Creature in the Lagoon If only Jacqueline and I had listened to our parents and not ventured into the lagoon, Elaine thought. Elaine and Jacqueline were growing up in a condominium facing Lake Ontario in downtown Toronto on Queen's Quay Boulevard. Their parents, Dennis and Roberta, were both lawyers. Elaine was fourteen and Jacqueline was sixteen. The lagoon in question was located at Hanlon's Point, next to the Toronto Islands. Dennis and Roberta had always warned Elaine and Jacqueline to stay away from the lagoon. "The lagoon is not safe," Dennis cautioned. "It is private property, owned by the Harbour Commission." "Why?" asked Elaine. "Because the lagoon contains an amphibious creature," Roberta answered. "It is built like a man, but it looks like a fish. It stands upright with what looks like legs, but it is scaly and has sharp teeth like a shark and claws instead of hands." The parents' warnings seemed silly to Elaine and Jacqueline. Both girls thought it would be fun to explore the lagoon. One day, Elaine and Jacqueline were watching on television an old movie called The Lagoon Creature. The so–called creature, the mysterious man–fish, was half amphibious, half human, and resembled the creature their mother had told them about. Elaine was squirming with fear, although Jacqueline was laughing. "Do you actually believe in these creatures?" Elaine asked Jacqueline. "No, I don't," Jacqueline answered. "The story on TV is made up, just like our parents keep telling us there is a man built like a fish in the lagoon. Our friends from school walk around the lagoon all the time. I have never heard stories from them about an amphibious creature. They would laugh at this story." The next day, it just so happened that Dennis and Roberta were relaxing around the condominium's swimming pool. Elaine and Jacqueline decided to go down to Eaton's Centre, but as they left their condominium building to get the Harbourfront bus to Union Station, they decided to take the bus in the opposite direction to the lagoon, which was located near the Toronto Islands. No sooner had the girls reached the lagoon than they saw something enormous splashing in it. Puzzled, they watched the water bubbles and the swirling water. There

  • 3. Myths, Morals, And Rules Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every decision we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules are shown and told is through myths. A myth is a traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how and why things are the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the end of the story. As a child I'm sure you've heard stories from your family whether a more unknown myth or common tale that you got something out of, whether it was learning something new, or something you already knew that simply got reinforced. But if you're like me, then it'll take some time before you remember. Once I did remember the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, my grandpa and Aunty Paning lived in Ilocos Norte, while my grandma lived in Manila, they were 407.64km, 253.31mi apart and they were still told the same myths, with the exception of a few details. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is Sonia Jackson, who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons' grandmother Dr. Natividad Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia's mother, who then told Sonia and her siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after the Spanish invasion, but it's difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth is probably very old, to have gone through at least eighty–two years, it could easily have existed for a century. Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables where animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act like rational beings to point out morals, this is the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because ... Yet, through their knowledge, they lost wisdom, thinking that the world was perfect. People became blind to the fact that all things have an end. Soon, they were brutally awoken to the fact that they were not alone. [2] One day, a meteor descended into the Earth's crust. The people studied it. They thought that it was just an ordinary rock, nothing they hadn't seen before. That was, until the meteor cracked. The human golden age was over. After all they had done to my world, how could they possibly be playing a child's game?," he thought to himself. While trying to solve this puzzler, he was unaware that the creatures had seen him and were heading towards him. [7] "Hi," said the creatures in unison. They looked like an alligator and a bear, two animals who used to live on Earth. That is, before the meteor came. "I'm Russ," said the bear. "And I'm Porter," said the alligator." "Want to play soccer with us? We love to have fun all the time." [8] "Shouldn't you be trying to kill me? After all, you're the ones who were destroying my world. I thought you were going to be some kind of hungry, animal–eating, vicious monsters. Like that one," as he pointed to a creature that was trying to eat a fly. "Well, maybe a little more vicious than that one though." [9] "No," said Russ, "We're just some 'creatures', as you would say, trying to have some fun. The evil ones gave all of us a bad reputation." "Actually, most of us are friendly. We wanted to leave the meteor right away to make friends, but the bad guys held us captive until they attacked. We truly are sorry for ruining your world," Porter said. "Anyway, do you want to join our annual soccer tournament? It's really fun." [10] "Sure," said Maxis, "but

Thousands of swelling bumps envelope its body while dark, malevolent sags droop over its cheekbones. From the mirror's reflection, the creature appears to be at peace, yet a wave of hostility emits from it at the same time. I slow down, carefully turning around to see the beast. It's not there. As I pivot back, I see the monster yet again – its weary eyes glancing unwaveringly into mine. However, I can see that we – the creature and I – are both equally shocked. Truth be told, there had never been a monster in the first place; it had just been me – and the mirror, of course. Unfortunately, it took me a couple days to realize that. Moreover, it wasn't until my first visit to Dr. Gao that I had truly begun making sense of these recurring events. According to her, I was experiencing an allergic reaction known as hives. This reaction would envelope my body – from head to toe – with countless dome–shaped rashes that would uncontrollably itch and multiply at an extraordinary speed. While on a molecular scale my body may have been recovering, to the normal viewer's eye, my condition only seemed to worsen. My mother's doubts began welling up. Soon enough, she began losing faith in Dr. Gao's wisdom – along with her prescriptions, and Dad, who – nonetheless – was trained in biology, knew better than to argue with her. I distinctly remembered how it all began. It was a typical Saturday morning. Nothing special. Dad was out shopping, Mom was tidying up the house, and I was doing some homework. I woke up with distraught, complaining that it was a Saturday and that I needed more sleep. I turned on my phone, noticing that the date on the screen read May 7, 2022. That was when I realized, today is going to be one of the biggest days for me. I am going to be taking both my Math and English SAT. I felt ready, yet I also had an uneasy feeling stuck inside me. I had been studying for the past 3 months, taking PSAT's and what not. I didn't have to go to my school to take the SAT's for another 3 hours, soI decided, why not take a little nap before I go? JAX, IT'S 1:15 PM, YOU ARE GOING TO MISS YOUR SAT'S! "This is just a dream," I thought, "I'm going to keep sleeping, there's no way I slept more than 3 hours already." Then it came, Slap! "What the heck Kace," I exclaimed angrily, "no need to slap me as if I was a clown." "Look at the time Jax!" He proclaimed, "this is a big moment in your life and your sleeping!" I checked my time, 1:20pm. Quickly, I became distressed. I started packing my utensils and books in my bag, then rushed out of my house. One step after another, I knew that if I didn't make it in time I wouldn't be able to take my SAT's, and my parents would ground me forever. I turned a corner, and saw a shortcut through a forest to get to my school. I thought to myself, I think I can make it on time if I pass through there. I raced through forest, and ... The public gardens consisted of a small wooded area, lined with fragrant flowerbeds, dotted with the occasional willow tree. Here one would find an oasis within an urban sprawl. Trees bordered the natural area like a green palisade, keeping at bay the city's chaos and neon lights. One might forget the city even existed. Only the park lights and the blinking glow of fireflies cast any illumination at all. To a mortal, all was quiet. A mortal could not see the night creatures making their nightly rounds. A lot of people think the readings are fabricated, from the EMF detector having a malfunction and short circuiting from a wiring problem, but there is an explanation behind the readings. Einstein had a theory that energy can be converted into matter and matter into energy ("Six Types of Hauntings"). Because people are made up of matter, on a level it is believed that we in a way also exist as energy and this energy surrounds us while we live. This energy that surrounds us is sometimes known as an aura. It surrounds us and projects our thoughts and feelings around us. When we die, people are said to lose six ounces instantly. Some people believe that the reason we instantly become lighter is because when we die the aura that constantly surrounds our bodies, leaves our bodies ("Six Types of Hauntings"). Although many people doubt the existence of auras, it explains the weight loss at death and the reason why ghosts can be picked up by EMF meters. Spirits tend to be peaceful, but slightly sorrowful , mourning a life that has passed them. The reasons why a spirit may stay around is because it felt incomplete with it's previous life and still believes that it has a purpose to serve whether watching out for a loved one, keeping watch over people who live in the spirits old house, or maybe even reliving moments of their life that they can't let go of yet. This is a fiction with many levels and views for people of all ages, and it was assigned to our Senior English class. The novel is centered around the story of Victor Frankenstein and his creation and the many trials and affairs they go through. Throughout the story, both characters make many choices that they shouldn't. However, when you take into account all of the events that lead to those poor choices, I believe it's the creation that is most justified. To be abandoned and hated simply because of your appearance, something you had no control over and can't change, is enough to turn anyone into a vengeful soul. This story starts out with letters from Captain Walton talking to his sister about a strange man they found on an iceberg. This strange man had a very dark and desolate story, and it was time it be told. This man was Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein was a scientist with a dismal past, and it all started with a bolt of lighting. After seeing a bolt of lightning strike a tree by his home, Frankenstein became obsessed with electricity, and throughout the story, his obsession grew to include all kinds of social sciences and the like. This leads him to college, and eventually to the worst decision of his life. Victor makes catastrophic choice when he decides that he wants to make a new life form. The sculpture Legend measures to be 4575 x 2590 x 2260 mm or 180.1 x 102 x 89 in and was sculpted in 2010, while its companion, Myth, measures 3590 x 2800 x 808 mm or 141.3 x 110.2 x 31.8 in and was sculpted in 2011, which is close to the same size as the average horse you would see in a farmyard. According to my research, the last location that these two sculptures were displayed was at the Chatsworth House in England. Both sculptures are flayed on the left side of their bodies, showing the anatomy that lies within the creatures. The two sculptures face away from each other in show horse stances. Both have the flayed part that is showing the inner parts of the creatures facing opposite directions as well. The color of the skin on these sculptures is white, and on the flayed portions of them, the portions that are to be depicted as muscle are red, while the part that is to be bone is a golden color. • 32. Creature Symbolism Towards the latter part of the novel, the Creature symbolizes the point in the human psyche when Man starts to become inherently bad when he gains more reward from doing wrong than he does from doing what is right. It is seen in his final moments with De Lacey's family. For a period of several weeks, the Creature waits patiently as he observes De Lacey's family in order to connect with them and embody their language as his own, but they eventually abandon him due to his grotesque form. In their first interaction with each them, he sees their expression as a "horror and consternation on beholding [him]," (Shelley 122)[.] Agatha and Safie faint and scream at the sight of him next to their father as Felix proceeds to attack the Creature. At this point, the Creature is at the point of no return as he realizes that he will never be accepted by any human and he is destined to live a life of damnation. At this very moment, the Creature's innocence becomes so engulfed by a feeling of hatred and spite for humanity that he believes he can, with pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants, and have glutted me with their shrieks and misery," (Shelley 124). Irving Buchen describes this stage in the creature's life as an emergence of, "limited evolution of a human animal who exists solely in the hermetic seal of his individuality within a natural, not a human, environment"(Buchen). This is another way of saying that the Creature has resorted to his savage instincts: the thirst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"C'mon contestant one!" Garrett hollered at the TV. "Obviously, the answer is the Viviparous Lizard," he proudly stated, acting like a know–it–all. He slid up his glasses on his nose and fell back into the leather couch that was implanted directly on the cream wall. He clenched the book in his hand, grasping the thin material of the crisp page. Suddenly, the sound of shattering glass came throughout the house and Garrett, startled, glanced up the stairs. It absorbed all of his attention, his eyes completely focused at the top of the staircase. He leaped up, out of the sofa and peered at the top of the dark trail that scattered up. • 37. Analysis Of May Swenson's Poem 'The Centaur' May Swenson's Common Denominator Imagine reading a poem and believing it means one thing, but the underlying message is something completely different. Authors like to use different literary techniques to make a valid point, to make the reader feel a certain emotion, or even to share a distinct memory with their reader. Poetry has helped authors focus their readers on their work by achieving themes that may portrayed in several pieces of their work. In May Swenson's case, she used a variety of techniques to create different emotions for the reader, while expressing certain periods of her life. May Swenson uses nature in her poetry to personify sexuality and make it into a repetitive theme in her work. Many of Swenson's critics can agree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Swenson tries to connect the little girl riding a horse to a more private and personal scene, it can be agreed that she is using this as an allegory that creates the poem's theme. In addition to the previous poem, Swenson also uses the same method to create and capture the same feeling and emotion. In her poem "Sleeping with Boa," Swenson again uses a personified form of nature to render her risky sexual theme. A perfect example of how she creates this image is when she states, "She likes my stroking hand. And she even lets me kiss." Swenson successfully conceives a sexual imagery while standing by a simplistic nature–based poem. "Jumping off the bed, she shows me her behind," is a line that describes the boa leaving her owner and the owner showing admiration. This erotic imagery expressed in her poem serves as a representation of recognition of desire and the willingness the two characters express while they share that desire amongst themselves. There is a connection between the two main characters, the narrator and its pet, which causes this to be analyzed as a more sensual relationship rather than the ordinary pet/owner relationship. Swenson uses the boa, a reptile which is often feared by many, to show that even something so powerful can be delicate when it comes to a relationship like this. It is almost as if she would like that fear to be forgotten and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Animal Testing Is A Catastrophe "Animal testing is a catastrophe. Do you agree?" Animals play a significant role in our existence, they involve in food chain and help in the sustainability of bio diversity. Unfortunately they entered the scientific field through the experiments of new drugs. The utilization of creatures in exploratory investigations in the UK can be followed back at any rate similarly as the seventeenth Century with Harvey 's analyses on various creature species intending to show blood flow. Crosswise over Europe, the utilization of creatures in experimental examination started to grow over the nineteenth Century, to some degree upheld by the improvement of analgesics which had already made creature research incomprehensible. In 1876, parliament passed the Cruelty to Animals Act, the principal enactment went for directing creature tests. Over the late nineteenth and the twentieth hundreds of years, the extension of restorative science implied that the quantities of creatures utilized as a part of examination extended relentlessly, quickened by the Medicines Act, 1968, which gave a clearer manual for the utilization of creatures in wellbeing testing in the wake of the Thalidomide catastrophe. The quantity of creatures utilized rose to more than 5.5 million in 1970 after which indicate the numbers started decrease quickly. Per Jaime Hill, the beast was the size of a horse and looked like a bear, hyena, wolf, and panther hybrid. It had a long wolf or pig–like snout. The color of the beast changed every time the beast was spotted; it would go from red to red with grey and white patches to red with stripes. In 2011, researchers concluded that Jean trained the wolf, killed the people, and then killed the wolf to make it look like a beast. Still to this day, no one knows for sure what happened ("Mysteries at the Museum" n.p.). Per World of Mythology, the attacks of the beast started in 1764. • 43. Summary Of Don Sabo's 'Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain' In Don Sabo's essay "Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain", Sabo's central claim states that society's pressure synthesizes males to accept and conform to pain, whether that be external or internal with an underlying message to walk away from conformity. At the beginning of Sabo's essay, Sabo mainly speaks about the external pain of his back, which started when he went out for football when he was only eight years old in the interest of changing his physical appearance. While beginning at the age of eight, Sabo played until the end of his NCAA career, which ultimately, turned out to be the result of Sabo's spinal fusion surgery, and also was the result of Sabo being "one of many men who got swallowed up by a social system on male domination" (86). The system that Sabo commonly refers to is also known as patriarchy, which teaches kids to not only enjoy the pain, but to inflict pain too. These teachings, according to Sabo, is the pain principal, which includes taking our anger out on other people and "limits our emotional expression (86). Another part of these teachings include taking pain, and to take women, and take their place (87). Through all of this information, Sabo is trying to make the inference that our Patriarchy system is corrupted and unfair. Women in this system are at the bottom of the totem pole, and are even considered a prize for enduring the pain. This patriarchy system doesn't only exist in sports, but it also exists in the military, business world, and in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
