St Pancras International Station
St Pancras international station is a magnificent building that turns the heads of everyone that comes
across it. This building in its current state radiates power and glory and it was built with that
intention, looking at it now makes it almost unbelievable that it once was being considered for
demolition in the 1960s (decay and restoration, Stpancras.com, n.d.). In this very way, the Covent
Garden market building that we love and now know as a place filled with shops, restaurants and
studios was also earmarked for redevelopment in the 1960s (Web.archive.org, 2008). St Pancras
station was first opened to traffic on the first of October 1868; it was the largest iron structure in the
world and was 'the wonder of the age' (Alastair Lansley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then renamed St Pancras chambers (History, Stpancras.com, n.d.). The station had gone
through two world wars and in 1942 a 500kg bomb broke through the train shed roof causing
serious damage to platforms three and four (History, Stpancras.com, n.d.). There was a limited
amount of investment in St Pancras station by British Rail (BR) and by the 1990s the train shed was
'black with soot from years of steam and diesel use. The roof glazing had been redistributed
following the Second World War and stayed that way.' (Decay and restoration, Stpancras.com, n.d.).
The glazing to the north gable end had been removed to improve ventilation and the southern gable
had been largely overlooked following the closure of the hotel in 1935. Both of the train shed walls
had suffered water access from leaking gutters resulting in staining, the breaking off of the buildings
surface (see figure 1) and efflorescence. The west elevation to Midland Road was in a terrible state
and needed repairs. (Decay and restoration, Stpancras.com, n.d.). After the restoration of St Pancras
station it became a place and is a place where everyone wants to go even if they aren't travelling.
The station has been filled with shops and restaurants making it the perfect location to stop at to sit
down and have lunch. It is almost never empty, with people scurrying to get the train, have lunch,
shop or just stand and admire

The Tokyo Railway Station Building
The Tokyo railway station building is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan in the Marunouchi business
district. The station which acts as Tokyo's main intercity terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro
network, Japan Railways' regional commuter lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway
lines. The Tokyo Station also has a reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by
the number of trains it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore,
the train station has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and historical
culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a hundred years, thereby
making it one of the one of the few major examples of buildings designed in classical style
remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole.
Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was constructed in 1914, its
actual plan is connected to the history of Japan's rail in the 1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed by
the Japanese as being significant in the advancement of rail technology and as a symbolic structure
within Japan. By 1885, several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo, thereby
necessitating the need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and Shinbashi.
The station which was to accommodate Tokyo's entire network was simply referred to as the
"central terminal" (Ito n.p). The project for the Tokyo Station was first offered

The Globalization of the International Space Station
Abstract
Space exploration was born out of the intense competition between the two great superpowers of the
20th century. The space race was a byproduct of the arms race between the United States and the
Soviet Union. Both sides devoted immense resources and manpower to attempt to surpass the other
in astronautical achievement. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the
approach towards space exploration changed dramatically. What began as a fierce competition
between major powers became a partnership involving many nations working together. Space
exploration projects, like the International Space Station, are only feasible through international
joint effort, and because of this have helped to foster more cooperative relations between countries –
not only diplomatically, but also economically.
Introduction
In 1986, the USSR launched its space station Mir in orbit. NASA proposed to construct a
permanently manned orbiting space station in response. The US began building the space station
Freedom, working with Canada, several European countries, and Japan as partners in the endeavor.
Just as work on Freedom began, however, the Soviet Union collapsed. This presented an opportunity
for the US to work with Russia in space rather than compete with them. Freedom was reengineered
into the new International

Space Station History
Ever since Apollo 11, when the US landed on the moon other countries thought about getting into
¨The Space Race¨. On April 19, 1971, the Soviet Union launched the first Space Station (Redd). As
the soviets continued to send space stations into orbit, the US was working on a project. In 1984
President Ronald Reagan called for a space program that would include participation with the US
allies. Two years later they made the idea of a space station and Reagan called it Freedom (Angelo
239). The building and the evolution of the International Space Station is one of the most important
accomplishments in our planet's scientific history and brought the US together with other nations.
The International Space Station is 357.5 feet long, which is as big as a football field. It weighs about
1 million pounds on earth. Inside it has about 32,000 cubic feet of space, or equal to the space in a

They planed 3 phases to finish the building of the ISS. During the first phase, 2 modules were
launched with a few other elements. Until the first phase was complete, 7 american astronauts were
staying the the Russian space station the Mir. The first phase ended in 1998. The second phase was
the core of the ISS. It was to start putting together all of the pieces for the ISS to operate. The
astronauts had to construct the station in space while in orbit (Angelo). In the third phase the ISS
was completed. From February 2001 to October 2003, seven more crews were brought up to the ISS
to conduct more construction. The U.S. Destiny lab was connected to the Unity, adding rooms for
scientists to conduct their research in zero gravity. An Italian made module, served as a ¨moving
van¨ carried supplies, experiments, equipment to and from the space station and the shuttle.
Russians added a docking port for space shuttles. Also another robotic arm was added for future

Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the
world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One
way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content
analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus,
announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station 'Mai FM' to New Zealand
Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. '
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying
propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years,
but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by
counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in
Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in
communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of
content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and
objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media
content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no

Central Station Film Analysis
Central Station Film Analysis
In the film Central Station (Central do Brasil), Walter Salles presents the characters as on a journey
to self–discovery. It is a film about identity. Central Station is a melodrama of transformation based
on an anomalous–duo comprising of Dora, a jaded retired schoolteacher, and Josué, a nine year–old
boy, who embark on a cross–country journey in search of the boy's father upon the unfortunate death
of his mother. The film presents its analysts with many possible interpretations and significations
due to its combination of different themes, visual allusions and narrative elements. Central do Brasil
film can be interpreted in three ways: as an extended metaphor on the writing process and a
narration of personal stories and experiences, as a figurative journey of Brazilian search for its
identity depicted in Dora's transformation and Josué's quest for his roots, and as a theological
allegory inviting a "theological reading of humans struggling to maintain a relationship to an absent
God" (Bowman 1). Through a detailed analysis film's content, production, and reception, this paper
interprets Central do Brasil as an allegory representing the pursuit for identity and transformation.
The first scene of the movie opens with long shots and tracking shots of multitudes of Brazilians
streaming and forcing their way in and out of the Rio de Janeiro train's doors and windows
scrambling for sitting and standing spaces, juxtaposed with cut edits of medium

International Space Station ( Iss )
On November 20th, 1998, the first piece of the International Space Station was launched into space.
The first piece of the International Space Station, named Zarya, provided the station with
propulsion, guidance, battery power, fuel storage, and docking capabilities. The International Space
Station has over one hundred parts to it. The International Space Station's length is that of a football
field's. The International Space Station currently has six crewmembers on board, three Russians, two
Americans, and one Japanese. The International Space Station is uniting fifteen different nations and
five different space programs. The International Space Station (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits
the Earth and serves as a research facility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scientists on board spend each and every day doing research about space and about Earth 's
features such as clouds and the surrounding atmosphere. The ISS is the only research station for
scientists in space. This is the main reason for them leading space exploration. Some of the research
that the ISS does has to do with microgravity and the effects space has on the human body. The ISS
allows the scientists to do research that they could not do anywhere else. There are three different
labs on board the ISS, which enables the scientists of the different nations to do their work in peace
if desired. The International Space Station is designed for nations to come together and try to give
the world more knowledge then it already has. All of the scientists on board conduct experiments
that couldn't be conducted on Earth. Most of the experiments have to do with gravity, specifically
microgravity. However, the ISS is always working on new projects. You can never be sure what
project the scientists will be working on that day. There is one way, and this is by watching the
scientists through a live feed coming from the space station and being broadcasted online. You are
able to watch this feed and see over the shoulders of the scientists.
The International Space Station is currently working on different kind of projects. Some projects
would include experiments with microgravity, which is the very weak gravity that you would endure
if you were on an

The Launch of a Women’s Radio Station in the City of...
This case study looks at the launch of a women's radio station in the city of Herat, Afghanistan, in
the year 2003. It follows four Afghan women journalists' struggles in balancing the demands of a
highly conservative culture on the one hand, and the objectives of their Canadian journalism trainers
on the other.
Kamal explains that Media development takes on many different forms in different areas of the
world. Rather than being a force for sustaining difference, the media is deliberately employed by
media development organisations as a vehicle for challenging unequal gender relations. Women's
rights and social justice are promoted in media content, and women's participation is often a
precondition for funding for media projects. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the radio station had officially been granted a licence from the Ministry of Information and
Culture in Kabul, Ismail Khan's power base in the west was very strong, and the central government
had very little power to enforce its policies in Herat. As a result, during the process of setting up the
radio station, there was much concern when Ismail Khan chose not to offer any written guarantee
that the operation would receive his sanction.
He was, however, an advocate of women's education. By describing the women's radio station as a
tool for women's instruction and culture, and inviting the Canadian ambassador to Afghanistan to
the radio station's launch, Radio Sahar was able to receive Ismail Khan's last minute support. Radio
Sahar was launched in October 2003.
The women usually had very little time to prepare the shows; they would use the time available to
them during the playing of songs or pre–packaged programmes to plan for the next day (and on all–
too–frequent bad days, for the next half hour) of radio broadcasts. The designated host would pre–
script introductions to shows when she could, and practise excerpts of poetry to declaim on the air,
while the designated 'helpers' would call and invite guests to lecture, or participate in occasional
roundtables. During their non–stop eight–hour

The Station Nightclub Fire Explosion
The Station nightclub fire occurred on February 20, 2003, in West Warwick, RI. The fourth deadliest
nightclub fire in U.S. history, a blaze at The Station nightclub in W. Warwick, RI, on February 20,
2003. The fire was caused by pyrotechnics set off by the tour manager of the evening 's headlining
band Great White, which ignited flammable sound insulation polyurethane foam in the walls and
ceilings surrounding the stage. By this time, the nightclub 's fire alarm had been activated, and
although there were four possible exits, most people headed for the front door through which they
had entered. The rapidly moving fire with intense black smoke engulfed the club in less than 6
minutes. Video footage of the fire shows its ignition, rapid growth, the heavy smoke quickly made
escape impossible, and the exit blockage that further hindered evacuation. The ensuing stampede led
to a crush in the narrow hallway leading to that exit, quickly blocking the exit completely and
resulting in numerous deaths and injuries among the patrons and staff. The toxic smoke, heat and the
stampede of people toward the exits killed 100; 230 were injured and another 132 escaped
uninjured. A total of 462 people were in the club, even though the club 's official licensed capacity
was 404 In the days after the fire, there were considerable efforts to assign and avoid blame on the
part of the band, the nightclub owners, the manufacturers and distributors of the foam material and
pyrotechnics, and

Brooklyn Train Station Research Paper
This field research project is on the accessibility of Brooklyn train stations for non–ambulatory
individuals. I frequently ride the subways to travel to Manhattan and the stations I have come across
in the past such as 42nd street Time Square, 34th street Herald Square, and 14th street Union Square
all appeared to be accessible to disabled people who use wheelchairs. I wanted to explore four train
station in Brooklyn both busy and non–busy stations to see how accessible they are. The first
Brooklyn train station that I visited was the Broadway Junction train station. This station is located
on Fulton Street and Vansiderdan Avenue, the border of East New York. This station serves the
A,C,J, L, and Z trains. Broadway Junction station is one of the busiest stations in Brooklyn. I arrived
to this station via bus during morning rush hour. I immediately notice construction being done on
the sidewalk making the remaining sidewalk very narrow. It was difficult to find a slope to get on

18th street. Immediately I noticed one step in order to get into the station. As in all stations there
was metro card machines and tollbooth clerk. There was also a gate that the clerk buzzed if someone
needed to pass. There were two stairwells, Manhattan bound and Coney Island bound. There was no

Penn Station Preservation Battle
According to a culture article published in Life magazine, "One of the enduring cultural battles
fought in the Unites States – and in countless other countries, as well – over the years involves the
forces of "progress" arrayed against proponents of "tradition." In this conflict, advocates of progress
are generally seen as forward–thinking optimists or greed–driven destroyers of all that is good and
noble in the culture, while traditionalists are characterized as either bastions of reason and good taste
or hopelessly outdated relics who really ought to get out of the way and let the rest of us move
ahead." This theory can be related to the Penn Station 1963 Preservation battle, which is considered
as the founding event of historic preservation battles in NYC. In the end, the proponents of progress
won the argument; in 1963, the three year demolition project of this historical site began. However,
both sides of this progress vs. tradition argument have valid points that should be recognized.
Argument for the demolition of Penn Station in 1963 A.J. Greenough, President of the Pennsylvania
Railroad Company, wrote in a letter to the New York Times in 1962. In this letter, he stated, "does it
make any sense to attempt to preserve a building merely as a "monument" when it no longer serves
the utilitarian needs for which it was erected?" This was the pretense used for the demolition of the
"monument" known as Penn Station in 1963. Economic concerns played a huge role

turbine in three electric power stations ( Shupra Elkhiema, Cairo west and Cairo south) . Noise
parameters were determined (e.g: LAeq,T, LCeq,T, LC–LA and noise climate L10–L90 for each
measurement location. The start of measurements was in Shopra Elkhiema electrical power station,
Figure 1 shows the noise spectra measured at control rooms, laboratories and offices within
frequency range of 16–250Hz. The low frequency noises that causes complaints in control rooms,
laboratories and offices is usually generated from the air conditioning or ventilation system,
turbines, transformers and water pumps which presents in the station. Table 3 shows the
measurement parameters selected for the study of low frequency noise in station. The acoustic
pressure at 50 Hz is due to air conditioning which is audible especially in the control room because
it exceeds 50dB. Also, in some offices the sound of air condition cause annoyance and cause worker
complaints. Both control rooms and laboratory located near turbine. Also, the building which

Living in a Mars Colony vs Living Space Station
Summary of science fiction story: My science fiction paper will be set in the not too distant future.
Pollution and global warming have made Earth nearly uninhabitable and humanity needs a new
home. While many look to Mars as the best hope, others feel it poses too many challenges and that
humanity needs more than one chance at a new start. These people are building a large space station
in orbit around Earth intended for . Two small crews are sent out, one to Mars and the other to the
new space station, to decide where the future of humanity will lie. The major topics of research will
be space habitability and the effects of long term space flight.
introduction: There are many challenges to overcome before a permanent human settlement can be
established in space or on Mars. Many of these challenges overlap, but each destination provides a
unique twist on human expansion beyond Earth. This paper will examine the difficulties associated
with maintaining a human presence in each location.
What has been done to establish a permanent space station: Thanks to the International Space
Station, we know a great deal about the effects of life in space on the human body and how to meet
the needs of life in space. The problems of supplying power, water, and food have already been
solved. Power is supplied to the ISS via 2,500 square meters of solar cells (Taranovich, 2014). Of
course, as the station

Rite Aid adopted its current name and debuted as a public company in 1968. Today, Rite Aid is
publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker RAD. Rite Aid reported total sales
of US$ 25.5 billion in fiscal year 2014. In 2008, its market capitalization dropped to

The Market And Economic Conditions For Buying And...
Introduction
Interested in near future business ideas, Cousin Edgar is considering buying two gasoline (gas)
stations. Gasoline is a fuel that, he believes, most American consumers will continue to use for the
foreseeable future and anticipates that the gasoline prices will continue moderately stable. The
business planning will evaluate the market and economic conditions for buying and operating the
two gas stations. The evaluation will be inclusive of Edgars' expectation of his gas stations' basic
economic conditions such as supply and demand, elasticity, costs of production, pricing, and normal
economic profit/loss. Cousin Edgar does believe that the opportunity for a healthy profit on the sale
of convenience items at each station could complement the gas stations' business profits.
Determinants of Demand
There is a demand for the availability of gas stations that offer not only fuel retailing but also food
items for the consumers' convenience. Edgar is aware that his retail gas station business could offer
complementary items to enhance the gas stations' revenues. Preliminary review of this business idea
recognized that the national average of fuel prices has been declining since the end of 2014,
http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/.
The determinants for gasoline are transportation needs, income, and consumers' lifestyles.
Transportation in most U.S. cities use gasoline–fueled vehicles and few have alternatives in fueling.

People were desperate during those days with caused a drug epidemic of epic proportion. Street

Space X : The Space Station
Russian Soyuz spacecraft to ferry our astronauts to the ISS , costing 70 million per ticket. NASA
encouraged a number of private U.S. companies to develop their own space rockets to get to the
International Space Station. One of these companies is Space X (founded in 2002) who is under 1.6
Billion NASA contract, has already completed nine unmanned missions to resupply ISS and
currently working to modify, making "Dragon" vehicle crew ready by 2017.
To date, the International Space Station has cost as much as $ 160 Billion and rising; fortunately, the
ISS's pricey tag is been shared between the participating countries which include Canada, the
European Union, Japan, Russia and the U.S. Since its construction, the ISS has had visitors from 15
different nations.
The ISS development visualized as NASA's next footstep subsequent to the Apollo missions, but it
took decades to get it started. In the 1990s after the fall of the iron curtain, the International Space
Station was one way to keep Russian scientist focus in new research. In 2001, NASA officially
stated the goals for the station: Conducting research, establishing a continuous human presence in
space, and promoting international cooperation. Although the Station not using its full capacity, the

Ernest Hemingway Train Station
In a like manner, Hemingway's setting of a train station situated "between two lines of rails" (275)
adds several symbolic connotations to the conversation between the couple. The train station
represents a crossroads or a turning point in Jig and the American's relationship. The decision of
what to do about the unborn child looms before them. Ultimately, here, at the train station, they must
make a choice that will determine, not only their future, but the future of the unborn child. The train
station lies "between two lines of rails" (275). By placing the train station between two parallel
tracks that run side by side but never meet, Hemingway invites the image of the couple traveling
side by side but never truly emotionally connecting.

Grand Central Station : New York
Name Professor's name Course Date Grand Central Station 42nd Street, New York Abstract The
Grand Central Station or officially the Grand Central Terminal is one of the most remarkable
structures in the United States. It was built in New York City when railway transport was in its
heydays. The magnificent structure was built in an effort to pronounce the thriving status of the
nation's financial and cultural capital. The Grand Central Station was more than an aesthetic
structure. The beautiful façade covers the practical and innovative design and engineering that
complete the structure. The station was, therefore, designed with an aim of merging elegance with
efficiency. It could achieve the efficiency of providing transport to the many residents and visitors of
the city, while reflecting New York's restless energy and style. The Influence of Culture on the
Construction and Its Contribution to the Built Environment The terminal was a result of efforts of
two schools of thought. The first was led by New Yorkers that felt that the city was the cultural
capital of the nation and as such, it deserved to have a significant landmark. The second was led by
City Beautiful, a movement that had considerable influence in the city and wanted to transform it
into a capital of architectural excellence. Therefore, the building of the Grand Central Station was
able to fulfill both desires. The terminal that was built on 42nd Street in the city would revolutionize
the transport system

Station Captain Duties
Applying the correct abstractions and generalizations to problems is essential to my job. I am a
station captain in the Waco Fire Department. I also serve on the department's safety committee and
equipment committee solving many issues for the department. Serving on the equipment committee,
we are expected to find solutions for the various needs of the department. As a member of the safety
committee, we must look at ways to improve safe operations for department personnel and civilians.
Promoting to the rank of Captain required me to move to a different station. Moving from a single
company station to a multi–company station required an adjustment to my leadership style. When I

I have been applying the same principles of this role as I did fill in when we operated with one chief
for all fourteen fire stations in the city. Daily staffing, hiring overtime, moving personnel, staffing
specialty stations, managing timesheets, and applying discipline when necessary. Running incident
scene is just one part of my duties. Checking incident reports for accuracy and educating personnel
on how to make them correct, I believe this to be of importance because over the years our
personnel has historically not been incorrectly coding incidents

New Business Plan for a Gas Station Start Up
The customer need that will be satisfied is that my gas station will have gasoline, diesel, and a
service station to get the repairs or inspections they will need to have. There will be a free air pump,
so they can have the option of filling up their tires. I will also have coffee, snacks and different
beverages the customer can purchase as well, so they can also fuel up their bodies as well for the
ride they are going to make. The product will be unique by my station having a self service, but also
a full service section for customers at no extra cost, but if the customer is getting 5 gallons or less
than there will be a slight increase on the price per gallon. I will have two self service gasoline
pumps; two full service gasoline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The customers' needs are that they feel that this is a place that will take care of them and will treat
them with the most upstanding customer service so they will keep on coming back. With the
amenities I will provide I will hopefully be going above and beyond their expectations of the service
they would receive at another gas station. The customer may need to use the service station, and
they're vehicle will be treated with the proper care it deserves.
The Exxon station, located at the corner of Baltimore Avenue and Church lane in East Lansdowne,
PA. The Giant supermarket that has a gas station that's located right by Baltimore avenue and Union
avenue in east Lansdowne, PA. The Exxon station's strengths are that they sell cigarettes and have
the lottery. They also have a convenience store that you can go inside with an ATM machine in it.
Their weaknesses are that there is only one employee that works there. They have an air pump and
vacuum section that you have to pay for. They do not have a full service option, nor do they have a
service station to work on vehicles or a diesel fuel pump. It also isn't a very clean or well maintained
place.

purchases made inside of their supermarket. They also have an entire supermarket

Ethnography At The Train Station
I was able to practice ethnography at the Wheaton College Avenue Train Station. People's
experience at College Avenue Train Station is shaped by their class, and particular social sanctions
are instilled which further enforce these social divisions. I observed College Avenue Train Station in
their busy morning hours on three separate occasions. Consistently, women were under–represented,
and whites were the primary race represented. The age demographic represented was between age
thirty and fifty. Many of which were dressed in business attire, although some more casual than
others. In my first two observations, I did not interview commuters, but merely observed the
environment and spoke with the manager of the cafe within the train station. He explained that the
majority of the commuters that he sees on a regular basis are young executives and businessmen
who live in Wheaton and work in Chicago. With only a few exceptions, the commuters awaited the
train with their hands and eyes glued to their smart phones, avoiding eye contact with one another
and being generally disengaged with the environment. While discussing with me, they often held
their phones near their face giving it occasional glances, indicating that their priority lied with the
virtual reality rather than the reality of the train station. Many of them purchased a coffee drink, then
found an empty space to occupy while avoiding contact with anyone else. On my third visit I
approached many commuters and

The Causes And Impacts Of The International Space Station
The International Space Station commonly known as the (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits
around Earth. This space station serves as a home for the crews of astronauts and cosmonauts. The
space station is also a unique science laboratory. Several nations such as Canada, Japan, the Russian
Federation, the United States, and eleven Member States of the European Space Agency (Belgium,
Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United
Kingdom) worked together to build and use this space station. The space station is made of parts
that were assembled by astronauts, in space itself. NASA is using this space station to learn more
about the living and working conditions in space. These discoveries will help make it possible for
them to find out if it is feasible to send humans farther into space than ever done in the past.
Political:
The International Space Station was first considered in the waning years of the Cold War. A space
station called Mir was prepared to be launched by the Soviet Union, which went into orbit in 1986.
The United States wanted to match its rival.During his 1984 State of the Union address, President
Ronald Regan announced his plans for a U.S led project. Russia was invited to join the space station
by the United States when they decided to expand their international partnership, after the collapse
of the Soviet Union in 1993. Eugene Skolnikoff, professor emeritus of political science at the

The Space Station : Aeronautics And Extra Terrestrial
1. Define the following term: microgravity, aeronautics and extra–terrestrial. Be sure to choose the
definitions that suit the Physics context.
Microgravity – Microgravity is the near weightless experienced by somebody or an object in free
fall which is named microgravity.
Aeronautics – Aeronautics is the study of the science of flight. Aeronautics enables you to study the
methods of designing an aeroplane or other flying objects.
Extra–terrestrial – Extra–terrestrial is a form of life that occurs outside Earth or its atmosphere.

4. Explain in your own words how the ISS generates power.
The ISS generates power by sunlight, which reflects off of the photovoltaic panels, which are just
like solar panels but much bigger.
5. How long does it take for the ISS to orbit the Earth?
It takes The International Space Station and hour and a half (90 minutes) to orbit the earth.
Part B:
What are some of the challenges astronauts face living in a microgravity environment? How are
these challenges overcome?
When living on the ISS astronauts experience many temporary and long–term health effects from
living on the ISS. The reason astronauts experience many health effects is because when you are in
space your experience weightlessness, or zero gravity.
Some of the temporary effects of living on the ISS are the astronauts experience disruption to their
proprioceptive system, which is a system in the body which tells the arms, legs and other parts of the
body are in relation to each other. This effect can cause astronauts to feel nauseous for a short period
of time.
A long–term affect for the astronauts is that over time their calcium in their bones start to weaken
making it easier for the bones to be broken. Once the astronauts return back to earth it takes months
of rehabilitation to adjust to earth

Purchasing A Gas Stations Is A Great Investment
Outline
Introduction
Purchasing a gas stations is a great investment. For this reason my cousin Edger is seriously
considering purchasing two gas stations to increase his economical profits. I have been hired as a
consultant for edger to assist him with analyzing the gas station industry and help him determine the
best optimal decision. It is importance to consider the following when making a gas station
purchase: location, if a convenience store will be beneficial, and if a franchise or being independent
is the best route.
Determinants
Demand Determinants
1. Location–competition
A company's location is a very important factor. Location is a key component to a successful and
profitable organization. When considering a location for a gas station it is important that buyer
considers the demand. The buyer must take into consideration the customers wants and needs and all
possible competition. Accessibility and neighborhood location is also a determining factor. Fox
example immediate accessibility would a benefit for a gas station that is near an express way or
highway.
The article Retail Redlining: Are Gasoline prices higher in poor and minority conducted a research
study concerning price in poor neighborhoods and how these neighborhoods affected the price of
gasoline. The research concluded that "prices will be higher in neighborhoods where stations have
greater market power because of some combination of fewer competitors and/ or more inelastic
demand (Meyers, p. 801).

When China's Space Station Will Crash Summary
I read "Why it's Hard to Know Where or When China's Space Station Will Crash" from Newsy
published by Evan Thomas. The article describes a Chinese space station(Tiangong–1) that is falling
out of orbit. China lost contact with the satellite approximately the size of a school bus in 2016 and
they have not been able to get the engines started. The satellite is expected to re–enter the earth's
atmosphere on or around April 1, 2018. Scientists are unable to predict where exactly it will land on
earth, however they don't expect it to be a danger to anyone because most of the space station will
burn before any debris reach the ground and it is smaller than most space stations. If it does make
contact with earth however, the debris band could be over 2000 Km long because the satellite breaks
up into many different pieces as it falls down to earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, although this one does not pose a significant threat, in the future other satellites or asteroids
could be a potential danger. In the future, if a larger object entered earth's atmosphere and it did not
burn before reaching the ground. people's lives could be at risk. Reading this article I was also
surprised there are not more measures in place to prevent these things from happening. Obviously
this satellite costs millions of dollars to build and put in space so I assumed there would be safety
measures preventing people from losing contact with it. Also, the article does not mention any
blame the Chinese faced and this surprised me because if lives were lost or damage was done from
this satellite coming back down to earth someone would be

The Train Station
By the time I get under the cover of the train station, I could only imagine that my burger and fries
are now drenched and mushy. I decide against eating the soggy food and throw it in the rubbish bin
just before the steps of the tube.
I jump onto the steps and make my way to the top of the stairs on the landing. I hurriedly push
myself through the oversized double doors. The train station is nothing like how I left it. It is now in
complete chaos.
Directly in front of the doors there are flashing cameras, people yelling my name, no room to move
and microphones being shoved into my face. What the hell is going on?
"Zoë, what does it feel like to be constantly surrounded by fans?" Yelled the paparazzi.
"It feels amazing to be surrounded by them, but not you guys. You guys just want the next big scoop
of gossip from me." I yell loudly over all the questions and try to elbow my way through the greedy
crowd.
It seems as I have quieted the questions and statements for a few seconds due to my remark.
I fail my attempt of getting through the crowd of press. It is endless. There was a whole sea of them
waiting to prey on me.
"Zoë, can you please pose for a photo?" One man asks.
"Zoë, how is your love life with your hunk going?" Another one asks and so on.
"Why don 't you spend a lot of time with your fans?"
"Why are there scandalous photos of you on your twitter, if you want to draw in a younger
audience?"
The questions flood my brain. It has all become too much. Streams of

Essay about Station Fire
Synopsis In West Warwick Rhode Island, on February 20th, 2003, during the performance of the
band Great White, a fire broke out that eventually claimed the lives of 100 people and injured an
additional 200. The band's tour manager arranged for, and ignited pyrotechnic props, large fireworks
designed to display a shower of sparks. The sparks ignited foam soundproofing near stage. The fire
spread quickly. Most were killed either in the crush to exit the building or overcome by fumes while
trying to find an exit. The immediate cause was well documented due to witness reports and a
videotape that was taken during the concert. In the period that followed the tragedy there were many
attempts to fix blame. Following a Grand Jury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several handheld extinguishers are located at various points in the club. There was no fire
suppression system. Sprinklers had never been installed. There is some debate over whether the
Station was required to have a sprinkler installed. The Station had recently received an inspection by
West Warwick Fire Marshal Dennis Laroque. The owners were cited for several violations including
expired fire extinguishers and some that needed to be hung along with gasoline stored inside the
building. In his statements to police, Laroque says that the critical violation that he was concerned
about was the exit door near the stage. It had a second inner door that did not have panic hardware
attached and opened into the showroom. They had been previously cited and had removed the door
to pass follow–up inspections only to replace it shortly after. The occupancy capacity for the Station
is also up for debate. There are notations in West Warwick permitting documents as low as 253 and
as high as 404. The NIST estimates that 2003 model codes would place occupancy at about 430
people with no tables and chairs. Estimates of the crowd on the night of the fire range from 440 to
458. Attorney General, Patrick Lynch's office puts the number at 458. Pyrotechnics and Foam The
pyrotechnics that ignited the fire were designed to spray sparks 15 feet for 15 seconds. The two that
were mounted at outward angles ignited foam that had

Ebert's Central Station Review
The critique of Ebert's Central Station Review
Central Station is a film directed by Brazilian producer Walter Salles. The film is portrayed in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil, and its about two characters; a young boy named Josue and an older woman
named Dora. The two characters are on a journey to find out. The film also shows the drastic change
that both Josue and Dora have in their relationship. Ebert reviews this film with positive vivid
language, however,he also forgets to describe some the majority of the symbolism in the film. Roger
Ebert connects with the film with a very positive mindset. He uses vivid language to describe the
atmosphere in the film as well as many of the characters' personality. Walter Salles implements the
use of a dynamic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ebert does not mention how any of the cinematographics implement a way in which the viewer
watches and understands the film. For example, in the early stages of the film, Salles wants the
viewer to lament the situation Josue goes through, almost as if the viewer is a character of the film.
Ebert also completely disregards some of the symbolism implemented in the film. Nowhere in his
review does he write about the significance of the Dora applying lipstick and how that begins to
change her character's personality throughout the film. Not to mention another character who goes
through the dynamic change as Dora in Josue. Josue hated Dora in the early stages of the film,
however, finally gets along with her as the film moves on, and even calling her pretty when she
applies makeup. In the end of the film, a scene which Josue and Dora in bed talking shows how their
relationship has completely changed throughout the film. To conclude, Ebert completely disregards
the original soundtrack of the film. Depending on which tune was being played, it really fit into the
situation that the movie was on. For example, when Dora yelled at Josue when they with the
pilgrims, a fast but sad tune played in the background to adjust to the

Leadership in history is important. Humanity has shown that they leave a lasting legacy in history.
The launch of the International Space Station was no exception. This launch was an example of
what humanity could do together. After an era of turmoil, humanity came together to do something
that will leave a lasting legacy in history. The building of the International Space Station was an
example of leadership and legacy because it was built by a coalition of many nations, helped nations
come together after the Cold War, and set a step forward to unified space exploration. The building
of the ISS was an example of leadership and legacy because it was built by a coalition of many
nations. The International Space Station was not built by just one nation. The building of the
International Space Station took a total of 16 nations. "The United States and Russia are just two of

The second option is for Southern Rail to close down the line that goes through Balcombe station
and re direct the trains to the Horsham main line. The positive aspects to this option is that it can be
completed in a much shorter time scale in comparison to option one as the station can still be in
operation only have to be closed down and potentially knocked down. Also it would cost the
organisation a lot less money to do this than option one as a large investment would have to go into
it to repair the station where Southern rail would have to seek ways in which the investment could
be returned. The negative to option two is that Southern Rail would lose a large amount of revenue,
as there would be a station that the organisation no longer in use. This would lead to delays on a
very important route from Brighton to London. The organisations income on an overall scale would
have been cut, this could create issues in terms of costs because the business may not be able to
spend in costs what was previously affordable. Cutting costs could mean the organisation would
have to cut down wages for example so the number of staff in other rail stations could be cut down
resulting in employees losing their jobs. As the Service Manager for Southern Rail after weighing up
my two options and all the information, it would be a sensible choice to go along with

Benefit Of The International Space Station
Benefits of the International Space Station to Earth Space is a place where no ground can be felt,
sound can't be heard, and every direction is endless darkness. There are people who spend their lives
studying space and how it differs from Earth. With the help of experts from 15 nations, The
International Space Station (ISS) has been built. The space station travels in our orbit at 17,500
miles per hour and orbits the earth every ninety minutes. The ISS gives scientists a better
understanding of how life works in zero–gravity.
The space station was not always there. It took about thirteen years to complete, and it all started in
1984. "On January 25, 1984, President Ronald Reagan's State of the Union Address directed the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to build an international space station
within the next 10 years." (History and Timeline). That was the first time anyone had ever heard of a
space station and they had no idea what it could be used for. In November of 1998, Russia launched
the Russian Zarya control module into orbit which the first piece of the ISS. (History and Timeline)
Technology was not the greatest back then so it took another two years for the station to be suitable
for people to live on it. It is not easy to get parts and payloads to the space station. To get a shuttle
up to the ISS, scientists must make extreme calculations and time every move made precisely. to
match the speed and position of the space station. The first crew

The International Space Station ( Iss ) Essay
We have dreamt of spaceflight since ancient times. Humans have developed and thought of many
ways to acquire this immense feat and it wasn't till the 20th century mankind were able to build
rockets powerful enough to overcome the force of gravity. Since then, we've successfully sent
mankind to the moon, rovers to mars and space probes deep into the reaches of our solar system.
Nations have striven to advance and attain great heights in the field of space exploration. The
constant competitiveness between USA and USSR during the cold war led to many major
breakthroughs in the history of space exploration beginning with USSR launching the first
international space station and USA successfully landing a human on the moon. The international
space station (ISS) stands as the basis of how international collaboration can affect space
exploration. Even though some nations are unwilling to work together, space exploration provides a
platform for nations to form relationships that benefits one another and create beneficial
relationships with each other. International cooperation has the potential to provide significant
benefits to all participants as well as help develop space programs. Such cooperation can provide
benefits in the form of monetary efficiency, programmatic and political sustainability, and workforce
stability over a period of time to those countries who chose to approach it as mutually beneficial
undertaking. International cooperation must be an essential partaking

Argumentative Essay About Space Station
In the near future, a station will be needed to do what Earth can no longer to provide for us in the
future. With the growing population of 200,000 people to this planet every day and 70 million more
people every year, food is the ever–growing need. But how can we support the growing human
species on Earth? The answer in short is we can't by the year 2100 the United Nations predicts that
11 billion people will exist on Earth (World Population Balance 2017). This in turn unless corrected
by stop having kids, would create death rates rise through famine, disease, and war. Another solution
is to outsource our population to other planets, which is already planned in our close future. But the

Power systems would be a mixed use of different systems that being solar, nuclear and battery.
Conducting this method of a hybrid power system would meet the demands on a growing station.
Fission power system wouldn't be any of a radioactive hazard until system power–up this would

allowing the system to response to power grid load and power system thermal load. This would

This would cause less potential damage caused by thermal stress on the reactor (Angelo 2017).
Battery system would be based on the ideal of the Tesla Power Wall. This battery would contain the
battery pack, invertor and the liquid cooling loop (Tesla 2017). The batteries would be connected in

will need to be brought online from a down system or emergency. If in an emergency the nuclear
reactor compartment will be evacuated and ejected from the station to provide safety for the station.
In this time, the station will operate low power and depend on battery and solar panels. A dispatch
team will investigate the reactor to see if recoverability can be taken. Batteries will be cycled on and

St Pancras International Station

  • 1. St Pancras International Station St Pancras international station is a magnificent building that turns the heads of everyone that comes across it. This building in its current state radiates power and glory and it was built with that intention, looking at it now makes it almost unbelievable that it once was being considered for demolition in the 1960s (decay and restoration, Stpancras.com, n.d.). In this very way, the Covent Garden market building that we love and now know as a place filled with shops, restaurants and studios was also earmarked for redevelopment in the 1960s (Web.archive.org, 2008). St Pancras station was first opened to traffic on the first of October 1868; it was the largest iron structure in the world and was 'the wonder of the age' (Alastair Lansley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was then renamed St Pancras chambers (History, Stpancras.com, n.d.). The station had gone through two world wars and in 1942 a 500kg bomb broke through the train shed roof causing serious damage to platforms three and four (History, Stpancras.com, n.d.). There was a limited amount of investment in St Pancras station by British Rail (BR) and by the 1990s the train shed was 'black with soot from years of steam and diesel use. The roof glazing had been redistributed following the Second World War and stayed that way.' (Decay and restoration, Stpancras.com, n.d.). The glazing to the north gable end had been removed to improve ventilation and the southern gable had been largely overlooked following the closure of the hotel in 1935. Both of the train shed walls had suffered water access from leaking gutters resulting in staining, the breaking off of the buildings surface (see figure 1) and efflorescence. The west elevation to Midland Road was in a terrible state and needed repairs. (Decay and restoration, Stpancras.com, n.d.). After the restoration of St Pancras station it became a place and is a place where everyone wants to go even if they aren't travelling. The station has been filled with shops and restaurants making it the perfect location to stop at to sit down and have lunch. It is almost never empty, with people scurrying to get the train, have lunch, shop or just stand and admire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Tokyo Railway Station Building The Tokyo railway station building is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan in the Marunouchi business district. The station which acts as Tokyo's main intercity terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro network, Japan Railways' regional commuter lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway lines. The Tokyo Station also has a reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by the number of trains it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore, the train station has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and historical culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a hundred years, thereby making it one of the one of the few major examples of buildings designed in classical style remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole. Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was constructed in 1914, its actual plan is connected to the history of Japan's rail in the 1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed by the Japanese as being significant in the advancement of rail technology and as a symbolic structure within Japan. By 1885, several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo, thereby necessitating the need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and Shinbashi. The station which was to accommodate Tokyo's entire network was simply referred to as the "central terminal" (Ito n.p). The project for the Tokyo Station was first offered ... • 5. The Globalization Of The International Space Station Kai Allen Donicht Globalization and International Business June 18 – July 7 Arunjana Das 7/27/15 The Globalization of the International Space Station Abstract Space exploration was born out of the intense competition between the two great superpowers of the 20th century. The space race was a byproduct of the arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union. Both sides devoted immense resources and manpower to attempt to surpass the other in astronautical achievement. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the approach towards space exploration changed dramatically. What began as a fierce competition between major powers became a partnership involving many nations working together. Space exploration projects, like the International Space Station, are only feasible through international joint effort, and because of this have helped to foster more cooperative relations between countries – not only diplomatically, but also economically. Introduction In 1986, the USSR launched its space station Mir in orbit. NASA proposed to construct a permanently manned orbiting space station in response. The US began building the space station Freedom, working with Canada, several European countries, and Japan as partners in the endeavor. Just as work on Freedom began, however, the Soviet Union collapsed. This presented an opportunity for the US to work with Russia in space rather than compete with them. Freedom was reengineered into the new International ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Space Station History Ever since Apollo 11, when the US landed on the moon other countries thought about getting into ¨The Space Race¨. On April 19, 1971, the Soviet Union launched the first Space Station (Redd). As the soviets continued to send space stations into orbit, the US was working on a project. In 1984 President Ronald Reagan called for a space program that would include participation with the US allies. Two years later they made the idea of a space station and Reagan called it Freedom (Angelo 239). The building and the evolution of the International Space Station is one of the most important accomplishments in our planet's scientific history and brought the US together with other nations. The International Space Station is 357.5 feet long, which is as big as a football field. It weighs about 1 million pounds on earth. Inside it has about 32,000 cubic feet of space, or equal to the space in a boeing 747 (Garcia). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They planed 3 phases to finish the building of the ISS. During the first phase, 2 modules were launched with a few other elements. Until the first phase was complete, 7 american astronauts were staying the the Russian space station the Mir. The first phase ended in 1998. The second phase was the core of the ISS. It was to start putting together all of the pieces for the ISS to operate. The astronauts had to construct the station in space while in orbit (Angelo). In the third phase the ISS was completed. From February 2001 to October 2003, seven more crews were brought up to the ISS to conduct more construction. The U.S. Destiny lab was connected to the Unity, adding rooms for scientists to conduct their research in zero gravity. An Italian made module, served as a ¨moving van¨ carried supplies, experiments, equipment to and from the space station and the shuttle. Russians added a docking port for space shuttles. • 9. Radio Stations Of New Zealand There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus, announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station 'Mai FM' to New Zealand Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. ' First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years, but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no ... • 11. Central Station Film Analysis Central Station Film Analysis In the film Central Station (Central do Brasil), Walter Salles presents the characters as on a journey to self–discovery. It is a film about identity. Central Station is a melodrama of transformation based on an anomalous–duo comprising of Dora, a jaded retired schoolteacher, and Josué, a nine year–old boy, who embark on a cross–country journey in search of the boy's father upon the unfortunate death of his mother. The film presents its analysts with many possible interpretations and significations due to its combination of different themes, visual allusions and narrative elements. Central do Brasil film can be interpreted in three ways: as an extended metaphor on the writing process and a narration of personal stories and experiences, as a figurative journey of Brazilian search for its identity depicted in Dora's transformation and Josué's quest for his roots, and as a theological allegory inviting a "theological reading of humans struggling to maintain a relationship to an absent God" (Bowman 1). Through a detailed analysis film's content, production, and reception, this paper interprets Central do Brasil as an allegory representing the pursuit for identity and transformation. The first scene of the movie opens with long shots and tracking shots of multitudes of Brazilians streaming and forcing their way in and out of the Rio de Janeiro train's doors and windows scrambling for sitting and standing spaces, juxtaposed with cut edits of medium ... • 13. International Space Station ( Iss ) On November 20th, 1998, the first piece of the International Space Station was launched into space. The first piece of the International Space Station, named Zarya, provided the station with propulsion, guidance, battery power, fuel storage, and docking capabilities. The International Space Station has over one hundred parts to it. The International Space Station's length is that of a football field's. The International Space Station currently has six crewmembers on board, three Russians, two Americans, and one Japanese. The International Space Station is uniting fifteen different nations and five different space programs. The International Space Station (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits the Earth and serves as a research facility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientists on board spend each and every day doing research about space and about Earth 's features such as clouds and the surrounding atmosphere. The ISS is the only research station for scientists in space. This is the main reason for them leading space exploration. Some of the research that the ISS does has to do with microgravity and the effects space has on the human body. The ISS allows the scientists to do research that they could not do anywhere else. There are three different labs on board the ISS, which enables the scientists of the different nations to do their work in peace if desired. The International Space Station is designed for nations to come together and try to give the world more knowledge then it already has. All of the scientists on board conduct experiments that couldn't be conducted on Earth. Most of the experiments have to do with gravity, specifically microgravity. However, the ISS is always working on new projects. You can never be sure what project the scientists will be working on that day. There is one way, and this is by watching the scientists through a live feed coming from the space station and being broadcasted online. You are able to watch this feed and see over the shoulders of the scientists. The International Space Station is currently working on different kind of projects. Some projects would include experiments with microgravity, which is the very weak gravity that you would endure if you were on an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Launch of a Women’s Radio Station in the City of... This case study looks at the launch of a women's radio station in the city of Herat, Afghanistan, in the year 2003. It follows four Afghan women journalists' struggles in balancing the demands of a highly conservative culture on the one hand, and the objectives of their Canadian journalism trainers on the other. Kamal explains that Media development takes on many different forms in different areas of the world. Rather than being a force for sustaining difference, the media is deliberately employed by media development organisations as a vehicle for challenging unequal gender relations. Women's rights and social justice are promoted in media content, and women's participation is often a precondition for funding for media projects. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the radio station had officially been granted a licence from the Ministry of Information and Culture in Kabul, Ismail Khan's power base in the west was very strong, and the central government had very little power to enforce its policies in Herat. As a result, during the process of setting up the radio station, there was much concern when Ismail Khan chose not to offer any written guarantee that the operation would receive his sanction. He was, however, an advocate of women's education. By describing the women's radio station as a tool for women's instruction and culture, and inviting the Canadian ambassador to Afghanistan to the radio station's launch, Radio Sahar was able to receive Ismail Khan's last minute support. Radio Sahar was launched in October 2003. The women usually had very little time to prepare the shows; they would use the time available to them during the playing of songs or pre–packaged programmes to plan for the next day (and on all– too–frequent bad days, for the next half hour) of radio broadcasts. The designated host would pre– script introductions to shows when she could, and practise excerpts of poetry to declaim on the air, while the designated 'helpers' would call and invite guests to lecture, or participate in occasional roundtables. • 22. The Station Nightclub Fire Explosion The Station nightclub fire occurred on February 20, 2003, in West Warwick, RI. The fourth deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history, a blaze at The Station nightclub in W. Warwick, RI, on February 20, 2003. The fire was caused by pyrotechnics set off by the tour manager of the evening 's headlining band Great White, which ignited flammable sound insulation polyurethane foam in the walls and ceilings surrounding the stage. By this time, the nightclub 's fire alarm had been activated, and although there were four possible exits, most people headed for the front door through which they had entered. The rapidly moving fire with intense black smoke engulfed the club in less than 6 minutes. Video footage of the fire shows its ignition, rapid growth, the heavy smoke quickly made escape impossible, and the exit blockage that further hindered evacuation. The ensuing stampede led to a crush in the narrow hallway leading to that exit, quickly blocking the exit completely and resulting in numerous deaths and injuries among the patrons and staff. The toxic smoke, heat and the stampede of people toward the exits killed 100; 230 were injured and another 132 escaped uninjured. A total of 462 people were in the club, even though the club 's official licensed capacity was 404 In the days after the fire, there were considerable efforts to assign and avoid blame on the part of the band, the nightclub owners, the manufacturers and distributors of the foam material and pyrotechnics, and ... I frequently ride the subways to travel to Manhattan and the stations I have come across in the past such as 42nd street Time Square, 34th street Herald Square, and 14th street Union Square all appeared to be accessible to disabled people who use wheelchairs. I wanted to explore four train station in Brooklyn both busy and non–busy stations to see how accessible they are. The first Brooklyn train station that I visited was the Broadway Junction train station. This station is located on Fulton Street and Vansiderdan Avenue, the border of East New York. This station serves the A,C,J, L, and Z trains. Broadway Junction station is one of the busiest stations in Brooklyn. I arrived to this station via bus during morning rush hour. Immediately I noticed one step in order to get into the station. As in all stations there was metro card machines and tollbooth clerk. There was also a gate that the clerk buzzed if someone needed to pass. There were two stairwells, Manhattan bound and Coney Island bound. There was no elevator in sight. • 26. Penn Station Preservation Battle According to a culture article published in Life magazine, "One of the enduring cultural battles fought in the Unites States – and in countless other countries, as well – over the years involves the forces of "progress" arrayed against proponents of "tradition." In this conflict, advocates of progress are generally seen as forward–thinking optimists or greed–driven destroyers of all that is good and noble in the culture, while traditionalists are characterized as either bastions of reason and good taste or hopelessly outdated relics who really ought to get out of the way and let the rest of us move ahead." This theory can be related to the Penn Station 1963 Preservation battle, which is considered as the founding event of historic preservation battles in NYC. In the end, the proponents of progress won the argument; in 1963, the three year demolition project of this historical site began. However, both sides of this progress vs. tradition argument have valid points that should be recognized. Argument for the demolition of Penn Station in 1963 A.J. Greenough, President of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, wrote in a letter to the New York Times in 1962. In this letter, he stated, "does it make any sense to attempt to preserve a building merely as a "monument" when it no longer serves the utilitarian needs for which it was erected?" This was the pretense used for the demolition of the "monument" known as Penn Station in 1963. Economic concerns played a huge role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The start of measurements was in Shopra Elkhiema electrical power station, Figure 1 shows the noise spectra measured at control rooms, laboratories and offices within frequency range of 16–250Hz. The low frequency noises that causes complaints in control rooms, laboratories and offices is usually generated from the air conditioning or ventilation system, turbines, transformers and water pumps which presents in the station. Table 3 shows the measurement parameters selected for the study of low frequency noise in station. The acoustic pressure at 50 Hz is due to air conditioning which is audible especially in the control room because it exceeds 50dB. A Mars Colony Vs Living Space Station Carina Salcedo 1339611 ESS 102 A Living in a Mars Colony vs Living Space Station Summary of science fiction story: My science fiction paper will be set in the not too distant future. Pollution and global warming have made Earth nearly uninhabitable and humanity needs a new home. While many look to Mars as the best hope, others feel it poses too many challenges and that humanity needs more than one chance at a new start. These people are building a large space station in orbit around Earth intended for . Two small crews are sent out, one to Mars and the other to the new space station, to decide where the future of humanity will lie. The major topics of research will be space habitability and the effects of long term space flight. introduction: There are many challenges to overcome before a permanent human settlement can be established in space or on Mars. Many of these challenges overlap, but each destination provides a unique twist on human expansion beyond Earth. This paper will examine the difficulties associated with maintaining a human presence in each location. What has been done to establish a permanent space station: Thanks to the International Space Station, we know a great deal about the effects of life in space on the human body and how to meet the needs of life in space. The problems of supplying power, water, and food have already been solved. Power is supplied to the ISS via 2,500 square meters of solar cells (Taranovich, 2014). Of course, as the station ... • 35. The Market And Economic Conditions For Buying And... Introduction Interested in near future business ideas, Cousin Edgar is considering buying two gasoline (gas) stations. Gasoline is a fuel that, he believes, most American consumers will continue to use for the foreseeable future and anticipates that the gasoline prices will continue moderately stable. The business planning will evaluate the market and economic conditions for buying and operating the two gas stations. The evaluation will be inclusive of Edgars' expectation of his gas stations' basic economic conditions such as supply and demand, elasticity, costs of production, pricing, and normal economic profit/loss. Cousin Edgar does believe that the opportunity for a healthy profit on the sale of convenience items at each station could complement the gas stations' business profits. Determinants of Demand There is a demand for the availability of gas stations that offer not only fuel retailing but also food items for the consumers' convenience. Edgar is aware that his retail gas station business could offer complementary items to enhance the gas stations' revenues. Preliminary review of this business idea recognized that the national average of fuel prices has been declining since the end of 2014, http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/. The determinants for gasoline are transportation needs, income, and consumers' lifestyles. Transportation in most U.S. cities use gasoline–fueled vehicles and few have alternatives in fueling. Grand Central Station : New York Name Professor's name Course Date Grand Central Station 42nd Street, New York Abstract The Grand Central Station or officially the Grand Central Terminal is one of the most remarkable structures in the United States. It was built in New York City when railway transport was in its heydays. The magnificent structure was built in an effort to pronounce the thriving status of the nation's financial and cultural capital. The Grand Central Station was more than an aesthetic structure. The beautiful façade covers the practical and innovative design and engineering that complete the structure. The station was, therefore, designed with an aim of merging elegance with efficiency. It could achieve the efficiency of providing transport to the many residents and visitors of the city, while reflecting New York's restless energy and style. The Influence of Culture on the Construction and Its Contribution to the Built Environment The terminal was a result of efforts of two schools of thought. The first was led by New Yorkers that felt that the city was the cultural capital of the nation and as such, it deserved to have a significant landmark. The second was led by City Beautiful, a movement that had considerable influence in the city and wanted to transform it into a capital of architectural excellence. Therefore, the building of the Grand Central Station was able to fulfill both desires. The terminal that was built on 42nd Street in the city would revolutionize the transport system ... The age demographic represented was between age thirty and fifty. Many of which were dressed in business attire, although some more casual than others. In my first two observations, I did not interview commuters, but merely observed the environment and spoke with the manager of the cafe within the train station. He explained that the majority of the commuters that he sees on a regular basis are young executives and businessmen who live in Wheaton and work in Chicago. With only a few exceptions, the commuters awaited the train with their hands and eyes glued to their smart phones, avoiding eye contact with one another and being generally disengaged with the environment. While discussing with me, they often held their phones near their face giving it occasional glances, indicating that their priority lied with the virtual reality rather than the reality of the train station. • 51. The Causes And Impacts Of The International Space Station The International Space Station commonly known as the (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits around Earth. This space station serves as a home for the crews of astronauts and cosmonauts. The space station is also a unique science laboratory. Several nations such as Canada, Japan, the Russian Federation, the United States, and eleven Member States of the European Space Agency (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) worked together to build and use this space station. The space station is made of parts that were assembled by astronauts, in space itself. NASA is using this space station to learn more about the living and working conditions in space. These discoveries will help make it possible for them to find out if it is feasible to send humans farther into space than ever done in the past. Political: The International Space Station was first considered in the waning years of the Cold War. A space station called Mir was prepared to be launched by the Soviet Union, which went into orbit in 1986. The United States wanted to match its rival.During his 1984 State of the Union address, President Ronald Regan announced his plans for a U.S led project. For this reason my cousin Edger is seriously considering purchasing two gas stations to increase his economical profits. I have been hired as a consultant for edger to assist him with analyzing the gas station industry and help him determine the best optimal decision. It is importance to consider the following when making a gas station purchase: location, if a convenience store will be beneficial, and if a franchise or being independent is the best route. Determinants Demand Determinants 1. Location–competition A company's location is a very important factor. Location is a key component to a successful and profitable organization. When considering a location for a gas station it is important that buyer considers the demand. The buyer must take into consideration the customers wants and needs and all possible competition. The satellite is expected to re–enter the earth's atmosphere on or around April 1, 2018. Scientists are unable to predict where exactly it will land on earth, however they don't expect it to be a danger to anyone because most of the space station will burn before any debris reach the ground and it is smaller than most space stations. Essay about Station Fire Synopsis In West Warwick Rhode Island, on February 20th, 2003, during the performance of the band Great White, a fire broke out that eventually claimed the lives of 100 people and injured an additional 200. The band's tour manager arranged for, and ignited pyrotechnic props, large fireworks designed to display a shower of sparks. The sparks ignited foam soundproofing near stage. The fire spread quickly. Most were killed either in the crush to exit the building or overcome by fumes while trying to find an exit. The owners were cited for several violations including expired fire extinguishers and some that needed to be hung along with gasoline stored inside the building. In his statements to police, Laroque says that the critical violation that he was concerned about was the exit door near the stage. It had a second inner door that did not have panic hardware attached and opened into the showroom. They had been previously cited and had removed the door to pass follow–up inspections only to replace it shortly after. The occupancy capacity for the Station is also up for debate. Benefit Of The International Space Station Benefits of the International Space Station to Earth Space is a place where no ground can be felt, sound can't be heard, and every direction is endless darkness. There are people who spend their lives studying space and how it differs from Earth. With the help of experts from 15 nations, The International Space Station (ISS) has been built. The space station travels in our orbit at 17,500 miles per hour and orbits the earth every ninety minutes. The ISS gives scientists a better understanding of how life works in zero–gravity. The space station was not always there. It took about thirteen years to complete, and it all started in 1984. "On January 25, 1984, President Ronald Reagan's State of the Union Address directed the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to build an international space station within the next 10 years." (History and Timeline). That was the first time anyone had ever heard of a space station and they had no idea what it could be used for. In November of 1998, Russia launched the Russian Zarya control module into orbit which the first piece of the ISS. (History and Timeline) Technology was not the greatest back then so it took another two years for the station to be suitable for people to live on it. It is not easy to get parts and payloads to the space station. To get a shuttle up to the ISS, scientists must make extreme calculations and time every move made precisely. to match the speed and position of the space station. The first crew ... • 77. How To Build Space Station Although it would hard to donate time and money to build space station in space on mars or on the moon. they need to build a space station on the moon and get a picture of it that way people on earth know where it is and maybe we can see it from earth in a telescope. First and foremost, if they do build a space station wherever they are in space but the question is how much is it going to cost for them to build it who are they going to send up there to build it for them because there are some older men that are construction workers there are some older men that would not go up there and work just for that. In addition, there are astronauts that have to waste money and gas just to fly up there and back it is going to be bad if something goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 79. The International Space Station ( Iss ) Essay We have dreamt of spaceflight since ancient times. Humans have developed and thought of many ways to acquire this immense feat and it wasn't till the 20th century mankind were able to build rockets powerful enough to overcome the force of gravity. Since then, we've successfully sent mankind to the moon, rovers to mars and space probes deep into the reaches of our solar system. Nations have striven to advance and attain great heights in the field of space exploration. The constant competitiveness between USA and USSR during the cold war led to many major breakthroughs in the history of space exploration beginning with USSR launching the first international space station and USA successfully landing a human on the moon. The international space station (ISS) stands as the basis of how international collaboration can affect space exploration. Even though some nations are unwilling to work together, space exploration provides a platform for nations to form relationships that benefits one another and create beneficial relationships with each other. International cooperation has the potential to provide significant benefits to all participants as well as help develop space programs. Such cooperation can provide benefits in the form of monetary efficiency, programmatic and political sustainability, and workforce stability over a period of time to those countries who chose to approach it as mutually beneficial undertaking. International cooperation must be an essential partaking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 81. Argumentative Essay About Space Station In the near future, a station will be needed to do what Earth can no longer to provide for us in the future. With the growing population of 200,000 people to this planet every day and 70 million more people every year, food is the ever–growing need. But how can we support the growing human species on Earth? The answer in short is we can't by the year 2100 the United Nations predicts that 11 billion people will exist on Earth (World Population Balance 2017). This in turn unless corrected by stop having kids, would create death rates rise through famine, disease, and war. Another solution is to outsource our population to other planets, which is already planned in our close future. But the best place for our species is space. Need space ... Conducting this method of a hybrid power system would meet the demands on a growing station. Fission power system wouldn't be any of a radioactive hazard until system power–up this would entitle of a safe system install. A backup computer operated system to help maintain the reactor by allowing the system to response to power grid load and power system thermal load. This would provide a safe operating temperature that would be based on a negative temperature band feedback. This would cause less potential damage caused by thermal stress on the reactor (Angelo 2017). Battery system would be based on the ideal of the Tesla Power Wall. This battery would contain the battery pack, invertor and the liquid cooling loop (Tesla 2017). The batteries would be connected in series to provide enough output for a twenty–four output. This will in a case where reactor power will need to be brought online from a down system or emergency. If in an emergency the nuclear reactor compartment will be evacuated and ejected from the station to provide safety for the station. In this time, the station will operate low power and depend on battery and solar panels. A dispatch team will investigate the reactor to see if recoverability can be taken. Batteries will be cycled on and off to maintain optimal performance of system life using a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
