1. Interpretive Essay Topics
Crafting an interpretive essay on the topic of "Interpretive Essay Topics" presents a unique
challenge. First and foremost, the very nature of interpretation demands a deep understanding of
the subject matter. This requires extensive research, critical thinking, and the ability to synthesize
complex ideas into coherent arguments.
Moreover, selecting an appropriate topic within the broader theme of interpretive essays adds
another layer of difficulty. The chosen topic must be sufficiently nuanced to allow for in-depth
analysis, yet accessible enough to engage readers and provoke thoughtful discussion.
Furthermore, navigating the balance between personal interpretation and scholarly analysis can
be daunting. While the essay should reflect the author's unique perspective, it must also be
grounded in evidence and supported by reputable sources.
Additionally, effectively structuring the essay to present a cohesive argument while
incorporating various interpretations and perspectives requires careful planning and organization.
In conclusion, tackling an interpretive essay on this subject demands a combination of research,
critical thinking, and writing skills. It is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor that offers
opportunities for intellectual growth and exploration.

2. Avon Case Analysis Essay
Avon Corporation In order to begin to understand the industry in which Avon
functions as well as the specifics around the introduction of the new EAS drive, I used
the 5Cs analysis to outline the company s current situation. Situation Analysis via the
5Cs:
Company * Avon manufactured a number of electrical products * Sold products to
both end users and OEMs * $6M in sales annually of the AVDC drives, lost sales to
EAS drives Collaborators * Distributors and OEMs В Avon could establish many
more relationships once they can compete in more than just the AVDC drives, and
can address the more price sensitive side of the market Customers * Three types of
adjustable speed drives: MAS, EAS and AVDC, with different applications and price

This could indicate the presence of two markets, one very price sensitive and a much
less price sensitive В high end niche but smaller market. After taking the derivative,
the P = ВЅ MC + 3560. However, due to the shape of the graph and its poor fit to
the linear regression, I split the data in two portions. According to the market
analysis, the more price sensitive (MAS) end of the market is the largest segment
and a price of $4400 produces the largest UCM (Exhibit 1.) I repeated the regression
again with prices from $3750 to $5000 only. The trend line is now a much closer fit
than previously and the new derivative equation is P = ВЅ MC + 2895.
To calculate optimal pricing I used MC outlined in the case as based on volume of
drives produced weekly. Fixed costs of plant and equipment were not included in this
analysis although are later evaluated for breakeven time frame.
Quantity 200 units/week 100 units/week 50 units/week 30 units/week
MC $2995 $3594 $4193 $4500
Price $4393 $4692 $4992 $5145
However, it is not clear from the above where the contribution margin is greatest and
whether Avon should use the penetration strategy at a price close to the current MAS
price, or focus on the niche high end market and price close to the current EAS price.
Looking at the UCM analysis which
3. The Urban Setting Of Pompeii
Introduction Ancient Pompeii was a planned city, like countless other Roman cities,
military camps and forts. Roman colonies founded on open field sites display
Roman grid planning, or Centuriation, at its most elaborate such as at Cesena,
Padua, and Florence. Here, at Pompeii, a famous Italian town in antiquity because
of its excellent preservation caused by the volcanic explosion of Mt. Vesuvius
during the first century AD. The streets, canals, agriculture plots and public spaces
were laid out along geometric lines and these striations are suggestive of an ordered
arrangement reflected by the regular layout of a square grid, made famous by the
Romans. However, unlike in the sites listed above, Pompeii exists as a unique
example of Roman urban planningas it incorporates ideas of traditional grid style
planning, but also more organic forms as well. In this assessment of the urban
setting of Pompeii, there will be a brief historical overview of the cityin terms of
urban designand its rediscovery, followed by an analysis describing the importance of
the domestic architecture, proceeding to evolution of the development and layout of
the urban landscape and it affected the social fabric of the town.
History of the Pompeiian Urban Setting Pompeii, whose heritage was originally
Greek, had become overrun by the Samnites in the fifth Century BC and even at that
this point had a plethora of urban buildings that predate Rome by several centuries.

The crusades failed in their chief goal the conquest of the holy lands they also left

this attack was bloody and horrific.
The crusades were more negative than positive because there were many innocent
people were killed because of their religion. In document 1 it states In Europe,
crusaders sometimes turned their fury against jews, massacring entire communities.

5. Mars Curiosity
Should humans attempt to establish a permanent colony on Mars? There have
many theories and scientific discoveries proven that there is life on Mars. On
August of 2012 a rover was landed on Mars and today it s been nearly three years
since the rover has landed for scientific discoveries. The Mars Science Laboratory
and its rover centerpiece, Curiosity has been one of the most ambitious missions by
NASA. When NASA launched this mission, they wanted to see if there was some
life on this red barren planet. If facts are proven then human should make an attempt
to establish a permanent colony, if life actually existed.
When Curiosity was launched it went through of tough time to enter the atmosphere,
and even hard time landing. NASA watched the landing through television and
when they found out that it landed okay and it was safe from danger, the mission
could begin. August 2012 was a time where all these theories were put to a test, to
see if any of it was true or is true. Mars Curiosity: Facts and Information , by

The late 19th and early 20th century saw massive Han Chinese migration into the
Xinjiang province following an attempted nationalist movement of the Uyghur
people in creating an East Turkestan nation. As of 2010, Han Chinese make up
nearly 40% of the population, up from less than 10% in 1920 (Spencer, 305).
Xinjiang s situation is often compared to that of Tibet, which has had it s own
nationalist movements, seen as seperatist movements by the Chinese government and
has had varying degrees of international support. Like in Tibet, the Uyghurs in
Xinjiang have seen severe government crackdowns on popular movements. Xinjiang
has been a focal point of ethnic tension in China for the past several decades. Much
of the unrest has taken the form of terrorist attacks on Han Chinese population
centers or Chinese landmarks, such as the 2008 suicide bombing attempt on a China
Southern Airlines flight (Davis, 2008), and a series of knife attacks in railroad
stations and markets across Xinjiang and further south in Hebei province, which also
has a sizable Uyghur population. Much of this unrest has been attributed to the
Global Jihadi Movement by the Chinese government. As the Uyghur population is
majority Muslim and reside in Central Asia, they are seen as susceptible to radical
Islam. The concept of terrorism has previously been linked to faith, ethnicity and
nationalism by anthropologists like Cynthia Mahmood, who in her book

The Giant Slayer One important lesson that my teachers and friends from Saline
Christian Academy taught me was that no matter the obstacle in life whether in
school, work, or in the world, nothing is impossible with Christ. Goals are
achievable, challenges are accepted, and dreams come true with faith and hard work.
Our theme my senior year was Face your Giant , and I faced my giant with the people

Our theme, Face your Giant , was inspired by the Biblical story of David and Goliath.

Every year we pick a new theme for that team. Our theme last year was Face your

that we had to stand up and face. Our school was small, so unlike larger schools
our school did not have all the players on the bench, our winning was entirely up to
this small group. Many teams we had to face were bigger and more athletic. We
were a young team. Other than myself, and one junior, the team consisted of four
fourteen year old girls, and one thirteen year old. We had to rely and trust each other,

ABSTRACT The car industry has constantly provided us the consumer with a wide
range of choices and varieties to suit our needs, but with the vast amount of
competition how do car manufacturers attract our attention. Unique designs,
impressive technology, price and customer service are all the areas consumers look
for in a car, to meet these demands car manufactures need to constantly come up with
new ideas to stay ahead of other competitors, introducing creative ideas which are

Managing innovation effectively can turn companies around dramatically, allowing
companies to be ahead of its competitors. Introducing new technologies and products
will help businesses attract customers and provide a unique selling point. It can also
help cut costs along with raising profits. Effective innovation allows for new
opportunities and may lead companies getting a larger market share and may even
break companies into new markets. Good innovation can also increase employee
motivation and moral creating an efficient working environment.
However having a good idea doesn t mean a company is innovative, making the
idea work effectively so that it brings value to the business is successful
innovation. Furthermore innovation can also propose risks and if not carefully
executed innovation may harm the business. New ideas need to be carefully
executed after in depth research, if this is not done correctly a new idea is likely to
fail incurring unnecessary costs and falling profits. It may also result in competitors
taking advantage of a failed idea making a business vulnerable losing its clients as
they may begin to look elsewhere.
Ultimately innovation is very important it is a strategy that needs to be implemented
with a lot of thought and analysis.

Knowledge in the making of History
History can come alive in the eyes of the listener. Behold, for what the history has to
represent to those. George Macaulay Trevelyan (1876 1962) a British Historian
quotes, Every true history must force us to remember that the past was once as real
as the Present and as uncertain as the future.
The quote has a lot of impact, as it states the truth. To remember the past is memories,
the present shall soon be the past and memories too, and the future is something that
will come in time with its own story to write. The quote to me means, that there is
always history being made and going to be made. That no one shall forget the history

History is what keeps the mind sharp and alive, as those retell past experiences. It
is all history, that all have lived, shared, and wrote down. For it is what keeps the
world full of knowledge, and to know the past. History is the doorway to a whole
new world full of accomplishments. Studying history leads one to find out that the
past events are all not the same, that there were hardships after war to fight for,
slavery, other countries trying to take control. When one looks around, thou shall
see there is history everywhere. History is always in the making of the eyes of the
beholder who is living to tell the details. If there was no history, then what would one
know about past cultivations or circumstances? What would there be to pass on?
History is knowing not only about what happens in the textbooks, but also family
history legacy. History has so much more to it, then just the textbooks. History is
knowledge in the making, and it will keep going on, because history is what defines
who, what, where, when, why, and how, that one is.

12. A Study On Childhood Cancer
Background
A study was conducted in Sierra Vista, Arizona and Churchill County, Nevada
concerning an increase in childhood cancer cases between the age of 0.8 and 12.8
years old.
Between the two locations, 14 children with Leukemia were chosen to take place in
this study.
The children were compared based off of demographics, urinary and blood levels
(metals,
tungsten, pesticides, etc.) as well as location of residence compared to the rest of the
U.S.
Population. Variables were used in the determination of whether or not environmental
exposure
was the cause of the increase in cancer related cases among children and to determine
if this was
indeed a cancer cluster. The results indicated that these findings were not a cancer
cluster, but
yet individual cancer cases.
Discussion
The statistical test that was done for table 3 was the geometric mean in order to
compare
the three groups. This type of test takes the average of a set of numbers. It is derived
by taking
the nth root of the product of n numbers. The geometric means of urinary levels of
tungsten in
Sierra Vista, AZ and Churchill County, NV were compared with the levels in the U.S.
population. The test determined that only 20% of the children in AZ had higher
levels of
tungsten and about half had levels below the national average. The data for Sierra

14. A Brief Biography of Ivan the Terrible
Ivan IV Vasilyevich (1530 1584), was the first of two children of Basil III and
Elena Glinskaya. Ivan came into the world on August 25, 1530. Nearly a year after
this Ivan s father died when he was only three. Basil had died due to a small, little
pimple on his thigh that had developed into a deadly sore. Basil requested at his
deathbed that his son Ivan would become the ruler of Russiawhen he became a man
at age 15. Once Basil died the boyars took over Russia, denying Ivan s right to the
throne. Ivan s mother then with other trusted boyars took over the ruling party.
Elena was able to successfully rule Russia for four years, until she died suddenly in
1538, apparently from poisoning, leaving eight year old Ivan an orphan. They had
ended and that Ivan had complete power. On Sunday, January 16, 1547, Ivan was
crowned czar in Moscow s lavish Cathedral of the Assumption. Ivan soon married
Anastasia Romanovna Zakharyina Yurueva. Anastasia bore him six children of
whom only two survived infancy. At times Ivan was very devote; he used to throw
himself before the icons, banging his head against the floor. It resulted in a callosity
at his forehead. Once Ivan even did a public confession of his sins in Moscow.
During the beginning of Ivan s reign, the administrative functions of the government
were handled by two brothers of Ivan s mother, Prince Yuri Glinsky and Prince
Mikhail Glinsky abused their position in the government, mistreating the boyars and
the citizens. Ivan vowed to
15. The National School Lunch Program Essay
Introduction In the United States many citizens face hunger, starvation and
malnutrition on a daily basis. This food insecurity affects millions of Americans.
Food insecurity is caused when Americans don t have enough money to purchase
food for themselves and their family. When children experience hunger if affects
them both physically and psychologically. Children who are denied an adequate
diet are at a greater risk of not reaching their full potential as individuals.
Undernourished youngsters have trouble concentrating and bonding with other
children and are more likely to suffer illnesses resulting in school absences.
(Karger, p 371) It is important for children to meet their full potential in order for
society to continue thriving into the future. If children are not receiving an adequate
education because they have an empty stomach, then they will not continue to
higher education or they will do poorly. In order to combat hunger in children the
federal government responded with several major programs. Two of the programs
the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program
(SBP) are targeted towards school age children. These programs provide students
with breakfast and lunch while they are at school. The Policy The National School
Lunch Program(NSLP) is a federally funded program. The purpose of the program is
to provide school age children with a nutritious meal in the middle of their day.

16. Troilus and Cressida Commentary
Act I, Scene III of Troilus and Cressida by Shakespeare features members from the
Greek army. From lines 22 to 54, Nestor further applies a previous speech by
Agamemnon. The condition of the Greek army is stressed, as the war is not going
the way the Greeks would like. This is a dire situation in the Greek camp, and
these speeches aim to rally the troops to fight back in this war with the Trojans.
This excerpt is significant in that there is a good use of literary techniques to
demonstrate the importance of the war, and key themes are portrayed in this
passage. In Troilus and Cressida, Shakespeare expresses the importance of themes of
order and struggle through the use of literary devices such as metaphors, word choice,
tone, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fate was a significant theme in the play, and the use of capitalization illustrated
this importance. This passage is conveyed with a somber tone to get across the
point that what the Greeks and Trojans were faced with was in fact an important
situation. In the midst of war, it was vital for the soldiers to have a serious attitude.
This is demonstrated when Nestor says Doth valor s show and valor s worth
divide. (I:III: 46) This statement has a great meaning in that it indicates that
courageous looks and courageous actions are different in times of struggle. In
essence, he is saying that it does not matter for one to look brave, if his actions do
not display audacity. The war was not something to take loosely, and to simply look
like a smart soldier means nothing without the action to back it up. The tone used in
the excerpt goes along with the feeling of the war, and therefore the entire play, as
the characters constantly had to take what they were given and rise above it,
overcoming adversity. Shakespeare s incorporation of varying perspectives in this
excerpt has an added meaning of how different people can convey the same idea in
different ways. Following the speech given by Agamemnon, which was pretty much
straightforward, Nestor illustrated the same ideas in more figurative terms. It is
important to see Nestor s interpretation of these words,
17. The Applications Of The Iot
Whether one is a student or a teacher, he/she will not go through a school day
without being exposed to a device connected to the Internet. The applications of the
IoT in education are endless, and the results are extremely favorable for the student,
teacher, and the university. For example, the emergence of the IoT allows schools to
enhance access to information, keep track of key information and resources, and
improve the safety of their campuses [5]. Professors can spend anywhere from 12 14
hours in a day teaching, working with individual students, and/or grading assignments
and tests. The surge in connected IoT devices does not require professors to manually
grade assignments; therefore, they are provided extra time to use as they please.
Also, devices connected to the cloud allow professors to gather information on their
students; this data can then be used for two things. First, the data acknowledges
which students require the most individual attention, need, and care. Second, teachers
can adjust their teaching strategies or lesson plans for future classes by analyzing the
received data. From a student standpoint, IoT devices and applications allow the
student to capture notes quickly and effectively, eliminating the time to manually
write the notes; this allows the student to focus on the lecture that is being presented
[5]. The transportation sector can also be loosely connected from an education
standpoint. Using IoT devices, students can keep track of buses and
18. Harms Of Social Networks On Society
Harms of Social Networks While social networking does have value, it also has
tremendous potential for negative influences in everyday society. The harm
caused by social networking has skyrocketed over the last decade. There are no
regulations to the content that can be posted or the immediate contact one can
have with a stranger, leading to dangerous situations. This is a rising concern for
the parents of young children as well as all who are part of social networks. The
growing population has become overwhelmingly focused on the world of media
and technology; most could not solve a simple math question, much less have a
personal conversation with someone. While our schools are being downsized, the
Facebook population is growing each and every day. A solution must be found
before the doors of schools are closed, the interaction with one another face to face
lessens, and the lives of teens with a good future are destroyed. There have been
many solutions set up to overcome these obstacles, for example; blocking certain
posts, privacy settings, and under age logs in denials. Fortunately, these have
worked in some cases. The summer of 2010, Facebook shot up in their members
with more than 500 million people. Even Twitter, where the posts must be 140
character or fewer has reached 140 million members (Clemmit 751). Because of the
increasing popularity of social networks, a decline is starting to be seen in everyday
personal interaction with others. The dominance that
19. Characteristics Of Legal Positivism
There are two approaches that can be adopted as to what would amount to a legal
system. On the one hand are theories that treat the concepts of law and legal
systems having certain moral dimensions on this view, a body of rules might be
said to count as a legal system only if it is aimed at the common good or
enforcement of justice. The other approach, which is a characteristic of legal
positivism, offers an account of law and legal systems that is morally neutral in
character. Legal systems are characterized on this view, by the existence of certain
types of institutional arrangements rather than by moral purposes they may or may
not serve.
The starting point for Fuller s theory is the suggestion that formal characterizations of
human institutions, independently of their purpose, must be illusory and inadequate.
In other words, for the better understanding of concepts one must know their purpose.
In Fuller s opinion, the characteristic features of legal systems that have provided the
focus for legal positivist as such is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
L. A. Hart, the concept of law need not be understood by reference to any moral
standard or purpose. Law, in Hart s view, can be used for many different purposes,
some of them good and some bad. If one had to describe a particular purpose which
was a necessary feature of law, it would have to be something highly general and
morally neutral such as the provisions of rules for the guidance of conduct .
However, this is not really self explanatory or fully intelligible and requires a further
explanation. The natural law tradition of thought would supplement such an
explanation of law s purpose with an account of how rules serve justice or the
common good o other values: once one has seen how the provision of rules
overcomes certain problems inherent in the human condition, one has understood
laws nature. Although, for Hart it is not that the establishment of rules lacks a point,
that it may serve huge diversity of different

and one artist will have been an Abstract Expressionist. In discussing the artists

The painting includes a woman and a man with a house in the background. The
woman is clothed in appears to be an apron and she has a look on her face that
resembles a look someone has when they are mad. The man is clothed in overalls
and holding a pitchfork as if telling the viewer to go to work. The house is of Gothic
architecture with flowers on the porch that is meant to represent the idea if you want
something you have to work for it.
Purpose of Artwork The Great Depression caused artists to create images that
depicted a society of individuals who were hard workers. Images were set in an
atmosphere that was, both, recognizable and relatable. Art was being created by all
races therefore the government realized the impact it was having and they sought to
promote social reform. During this time industry executives wanted to convey a
message to society that they had the workers best interest at heart. Artists used
murals to depict images of trade, industry, and mill work. These workers were
influenced by the murals because it was something that made them feel like they
were respected. This respect had a positive impact and therefore was a contributing
factor to social reform.
Conclusion
Creations of art during The Great Depression couldn t have been more perfect than
the works by Maynard Dixon and Grant Wood. In a style dubbed social realism
Maynard Dixon created Springtime on Bear Mountain which depicted flat land in the

by the goal of staying in office for another term. The more years these officials hold
office for, the more power, reputation, and money they earn. But after too many terms
in the same position they lose the common public interest (if they ever had it to start),
and holding their office becomes strictly for the money and the power. The public
buys into their campaigns and slogans, and they continually get voted in, but
consistently fail to make impressionable changes.
Career politicians break down the structure in our government in ways even an
enemy could not: They create a constant power vacuum of superficial platforms and
un kept responsibilities, to fulfill their duties in office for the best interest of the
public. They promise more action with more time, and in return they raise taxes to
fund filler government programs. Arguments for term limits vary from as long as ten
years to down to just two. Our country s debt has skyrocketed in the last decade, and
it s not just the cyclical nature of the economy. It is the funding of government
programs that are being started by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

23. Baldwin Wallace Case Study
The University of Baldwin Wallace, as I view it as being very close knit liberal

who is a member of a Greek organization on campus or the exact number of the

The uncertainty of not knowing who has ties to Greek life or is a member being

This location may vary and can change at a moment s notice. The method I would use
to help notify the members of my group that the drop was ready for pick up is to post
inspirational messages on post it stamps across campus in various places such as
the MACS building, The Union, Kamm Hall, and Bonds. I would also make sure
to signal the member that he or she is looking at the correct message, by applying a
small check mark or X on the message. The goal of these messages is to look
normal to the everyday person, but to the members of my group, they would see
the code and when they enter it to a vigenere cipher to decrypt the regular alphabet
message to get the desired message. The message that the member would receive
from breaking the cipher would be a password to a program pre installed on every
USB used, the member would enter the correct password and would be granted
access to the file sharing program that will allow them to grab an important file or
to upload for other users. The main concern with this is that the Greek life system
may crack the encrypted text and try to enter a password. So, the way that I would
counteract this would be to set a time to pick up the information and notify my
group of the time limit, because the program would either lock up after a certain
time or it would if possible would either delete itself from the USB or move the
program to a secondary dead drop location in case if a location is exposed and to
also protect the members from being caught. The one major threat of my method
would be the adverse weather conditions that

Wormwood
My dad and I enjoyed the book thoroughly. He thought there was a funny sense of
humor and found the insight into the minds of demons intriguing. I wasn t quite as
amused, but I found how interesting it is to look inside a demon s head. The whole
book was very imaginative and the short chapters allowed us both to stay engaged.
He thought it was interesting to see how susceptible we are to the demon s
strategy, and how they can sneak up on us and catch us on unawares.
Unfortunately for me I can relate that to my life which can get to whole new level
creepy. I personally don t like the idea of a demon sneaking up on me. My dad

25. Schindler s List by Steven Spielberg
Good morning/afternoon, today I will be analysing a scene from Steven Spielberg
s master piece film Schindler s List. Movie extraordinaire Steven Spielberg, who is
a world renown director of countless memorable films, show cases his incredible
skill and compelling power towards the audience, without using any dialogue in the
most pivotal character development scene in Schindler s List. Referred too, by the
audience as The girl in red .
Before I delve in to the depths of this scene and why it is so significant to the film, it
is important I outline the story of Schindler s list. This film is all about Oskar
Schindler; a successful business man, womanizer and member of the Nazi party. A
true story, about a man making a living using Jewish workers in factories, producing
anything from pots and pans too brass tank ammunition shells, during the height of
WW2. Throughout the start of the film Schindler s humanity is questionable
leaving to audience to ponder whether or not he is a hero or just another Nazi using
the Jewish people as an easy and free work force. This all changes about a third of
the way through the film, when the audience witnesses our questionable hero s
fundamental change of heart for his Jewish working force and as discovered later on
in the film, he spends more money than he can make trying to save them.
What the audience witnesses, is of course the scene I am analysing. During a horse
ride with Schindler s partner, he stops on top of a hill looking down on a

Supreme Court of Canada convicts serial killer Robert Pickton of second degree

v. Pickton would be R. v. Ranger and R. v. Suzack. R. v. Ranger is a case that
demonstrates the theories of liability. In Ranger s case, the accused was charged
with the murder of his ex girlfriend and sister, in which the accused claims that his
cousin was the one who committed the crime. The Crown relied on two theories
that: either the accused killed both the victims himself with the help from his
cousin, or the accused s cousin murdered the victims with the help of the accused.
The trial judge also told the jury that they would still find the accused guilty even
if they were not present at the event as an aider or abettor (para. 89). The accused
was convicted of first degree murder. The different theories of liability in this case is
not whether or not the accused was physically present at the scene, but the fact that
the accused could have had the evil intention as an aider or abettor to the crime;
those who are associated is guilty of the attempt to commit the crime. Similarly, in R.
v. Suzack, the appellants were charged with the murder of an officer on duty. Both
testified against each other, claiming that the other person was the one who pulled the
fatal shot on the officer. Both appellants claimed that they had no actual intention of
killing the officer; the Crown took the position of convicting both appellants with the
same crime, as co perpetrators (para. 1). In the case of Suzack, there was not a need

What do you think about when you hear The Great Depression? Some might say the
worst economic time in the United States of America. The Great Depression was
one of the longest and innermost economic downturn in the world of history
between the years of 1929 and 1939. Also, The Great Depression led to the Federal
Government having a more involved role in America s economy, this was done
through the creation of Franklin D. Roosevelts New DealLegislation, which turned
out to be effective because, he helped the American people find more jobs, he created
social security, and many more beneficial acts. On the other hand, The Great

Many Americans went wild investing beyond their needs. They were investing
with money they didn t have. Investors had to pay ten percent of the total value of
stocks at the time of buying. The rest they could pay in installments. The stock
market could not be stabilized. There were huge amount of money being borrowed
out of the stock market. There were huge number of new banks that were cropping
up every single day. They didn t have any rules telling them the amount of reserves
that was allowed to be loaned out. They also didn t have any regulations to
determine the minimum capital required to start up a bank. The banks were closing
faster than they were opening. The situations became worse when the stock market

the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was set up. The purpose of the
SEC was to protect investors from dangerous or illegal financial practices or fraud,
by requiring full and accurate financial disclosure by companies offering stocks,

(The Importance of Labor and Labor unions 1800 1900) Prior to the American Civil
War in 1861 much of American workforce was completed by slaves brought from
Africa. Slave labor was used mostly in southern agriculture. Working conditions for
slaves were dismal at best with inadequate housing, lack of food, resources and
broken families. The quality of life for slaves was seldom taken into account by
slave owners as slaves were seen as property rather than people or employees. After
the Unions victory however the newly freed slaves desired to live on their own on
their own land and work for themselves. In January 1865 General William T. Sherman

was not a new idea however their impact on social change from this point forward
made the most significant changes. In 1869, a labor union known as the Knights of
Labor sought to defend the common worker from poor compensation and to improve
working conditions for the working class. The idea was to literally hold the employer

the 2nd industrial revolution brought about an enormous surge in jobs in
manufacturing and farming. This uptick in production in all sectors and the lack of
an income tax made many leaders in business extremely wealthy. Workers believed
that the distribution of the wealth was not fair and demanded they receive their fair

1. Differing perspectives affect our views of compensation. It does not mean the
same thing to everyone. A person s view can differ depending on whether you look
at compensation from the perspective of a member of society, a stockholder, a
manager, or an employee. Everyone is different. For example, an employee may
have a different idea of what compensation is when compared to a stockholder. An
employee may see compensation as a return in exchange between their employer
and themselves, as an entitlement for being an employee of the company, or as a
reward for a job well done. A stockholder on the other hand would have a different
point of view. Stockholders are interested in how employees are paid and some
believe that using stock to pay employees creates a sense of ownership that will
improve performance which will in turn increase stockholder wealth. Additionally,
compensation becomes a great interest to stockholders when it comes to
compensating the CEO.

32. War Takes Over Everything in Walt Whitmanв
Ђ™s Poem,
Drum Taps
The overall theme in Walt Whitman s Drum Taps is about the way war consumes
everything and monopolizes every facet of life; particularly the land the war is fought
on. When analyzing the poem, the first stanza talks about the movement of war from
the farms, the second stanza talks about the progression of warfrom the farm to the
city. In stanza three this journey continues through the battlefield, through the halls of
power and finally into the homes, moving from the public to private spheres of life.
Throughout the entire poem there is an emphasized pulse of drums that beats within
the lines. This pulse of drums resonates throughout the entire poem and prompts me
to wonder how Whitman intended to utilize this mechanism. Furthermore, I want to
uncover if the sounds of these drums is symbolic in some way, and if they are, then
I wonder if this symbolism represents a positive view or negative view on war.
My first interpretation is that these drums represent Whitman s negative perspective
on war. I feel that the use of the pulse of drums throughout the poem acts as a
mechanism that Whitman uses in order to discourage war. I feel that these sounds are
symbolic of the dire news at the time that consisted of the battles. It seems that
Whitman is addressing this pulse of drums in attempt to highlight the effect this war
will have on the country. In this poem, I see the clear cry for battle as a cry by
someone who is naГЇve and does not yet know what the ultimate cost of war

The History of, and Impact of, Photography on our World
Photography is a process frequently used in areas of media, art, and science as well
as practical everyday use. It is used to inform society of different issues, used to
document a wide range of things and is used to capture everyday memories for the
years to come. It is used everywhere in today s society and through technology has
advanced tremendously since its beginnings.
The earliest cameras were simple devices that did not capture an image but merely
projected an image onto a surface. It was basically a large pinhole camera in the form
of a darkened room or booth. These were used by artists as early as the 16th century.
These were known as Camera Obscuras. They then ... Show more content on

It has even branched out into the digital realm allowing endless possibilities to the
world of photography.
Photography revolutionized the world in ways we can t even imagine. Imagery is
such an important part of our everyday lives and photography has created a
convenient way to convey an image. Before photography came about the only way
of having a permanent image of a person was to have a portrait painted. The only
way of creating an image to show the scenery and landscape of a certain era was to
have it painted or drawn. Nowadays we can take a snapshot and years later people
can see the world as it was today. Photo s have changed the world of journalism,
creating a way for people to actually see what is going on, rather then just hearing
about it.
Today we use photography frequently in our everyday lives and we are constantly
surrounded by images that would not have been possible without photography. It s
considered a hobby for some, a business for others. Photography is a huge money
making industry, from people taking pictures to sell to magazines to portrait
photographers taking happy snaps of families at their best. Photography is used as
a form of identification, showing us exactly how we are and proving we are who
we say. It is used to sell products and advertise almost anything you can think of. It s
also used as a journalistic tool, to send a message to the world and inform others. It

The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite

and it maintains its core business until now. The main benefits of having a search
engine include quick results for intended searches, as search engines extract
information from the web and display in an organized manner.
Google quickly became the most popular search engine due to several reasons.
Firstly, this is due to speed of delivering search results. When it first launched, Google

36. A Interview At An Interview
Shortly after the submission of my application, I received an email inviting me to
the interview that would be conducted in company s office in London. Overall, in
my opinion, I did my best in terms of the preparation. I researched the company s
history, read about its most popular products and familiarized myself with the recent
industry and company s news (Burke and Thurgood 2007). A week prior to the
interviewdate I attended an interview preparation session organized by the Careers
Office which, as noted by Spears (1979), was supposed to help me feel more
comfortable during the actual interview. As a result, I had, what Bandura (1982)
would call a high level of self efficacy, meaning that I hold an opinion that I would
succeed in an interview.
Turning attention to the actual interview, it was conducted face to face on
company s premises and my interviewer was a middle aged white woman. From the
first seconds of the interview she had an open body language and she maintained a
good eye contact. Armstrong (2012) indicates that such behaviour helps to
establish the good rapport with the applicant and it was certainly true in my case. It
was a structured employment interview as I was asked a set of prepared questions
(Levashina et al. 2014) that explored if I possessed skills and competencies required
for the job position. As the interviewer followed the script, it led to the consistency in
information received, implying more accurate selection decision (Garcia et al. 2008).

In the 2000 United States Presidential election, the close pre election polls showed
the election could be won by either the Republican or the Democrat Party. Both
Parties had two strong candidates, with a handful of other third party candidates,
including Green Party and Reform Party representatives. As I watched the results of
the 2000 presidential election, I felt bad for Vice President Albert Gore, Jr. The
Presidency seemed to be well within Governor George W. Bushs grasp. The
television news networks were showing a big lead for Bush across the country. I
turned the television off in my office, and I advised my Soldiers to get back to
work. My Soldiers and I were stationed overseas in the Republic of Korea. We were
thirteen hours ahead of the Eastern Time zone in the United States. We worked for
the Commanding General for all United States Troops in Korea. The General often
spoke about the election, but never let on which candidate got his vote. When I
turned on the news at home that same evening, I was shocked to learn the
presidency had not been decided. It seemed Gore rebounded across the country;
however the total vote count in some states is too close to call. The 2000
Presidential election was important to me because the last time a Bush was in
office, I found myself overseas as a part of a Multinational Coalition as the United
States had declared war on the country of Iraq. In the year 2000, the peninsula of
Korea had been in a delicate state with

39. Ancient Egyptian Art And Contribution To Late Mesolithic
Art
There are many different art styles around the world that developed in various
ways. Ancient Egyptian art is around 5 thousand years old, and it is a major
contributor to late Mesolithic Art. It arose and took shape in the civilization of the
Nile Valley. Ancient Egyptian art reached a high level in painting and sculpture,
and was both extremely stylized and symbolic. Most of the Egyptian sculptures
that have been well preserved were initially made for temples and/or tombs.
Egyptian sculpture and all Egyptian art was based on the belief in a life after death.
The body of the pharaoh was carefully preserved, and certain goods were buried
with him in the Pyramids of Giza to provide for his needs forever. Life size and
even much larger statues, carved in slate, alabaster, and limestone, were as regular
and simple in shape as the tombs themselves. These statues were replicas of the
rulers, the nobles, and the gods worshiped by the Egyptians, and were put in temples
and burial chambers. Scenes engraved and painted in the tombs or on temple walls
literally described Egyptian life. Eleanor Barton, in The History of Sculpture, states,
The Egyptians often combined features from various creatures to symbolize ideas.
For example, the human head of the pharaoh Khafre is added to the crouching figure
of a lion to form the Great Sphinx. This composition suggests the combination of
human intelligence and animal strength. Egyptian sculptors always presented clear
ideas. The pharaoh or

41. Recycling Is The Method Of Regaining Recycling Essay
Recycling is the method of regaining, reprocessing, and reusing materials that would
otherwise be thrown away (Opposing Viewpoints in Context 2014). The most
commonly recycled materials include paper, glass, plastic, and metals. Materials
may be used to make more of its original product or to make something entirely new.
For example, recycled aluminum cans are often made into new cans, while recycled
class may be made into paving material. Recyclingdoes not always save money
immediately, it provides long lasting benefits because it conserves natural
resources while saving energy and reducing pollution. Recycling isn t a new
concept in the modern era, humans have always been finding new uses for items.
However, large scale recycling is a fairly recent trend that gained widespread
support in the 1970s when people became more aware of their environmental
impact. In this essay, we will be reviewing arguments made by three writers from
different backgrounds and their views of recycling. We will analyze what does and
doesn t work in their arguments, and if they properly are using ethos, pathos, and
logic. Afterwards, I will give my own rebuttal from a perspective of a college student.
Recycling is a complicated progression that has been developing throughout the
century, and while it falters at times, it is moving towards a better and less wasteful
future.
The first argument I will be assessing is by Stiv Wilson, who is a journalist and
policy director for the 5 Gyres

Another very important aspect that must be considered during the analysis of the
portrait of Ann Whitley Russell is color. In this portrait the artist tends to use a
narrow array of colors that are bland and monotonous. The artist uses the same
colors of black, white, brown, grey and red throughout the entire piece. The
background is incredibly dull and the shades of brown get darker as it moves
further away from her head. In this portrait the red is only bright and exciting
color, it is found used for the plain velvet looking chair, the red accents on the cloth
draped over the chair, the stone in the center of her necklace and the thin line of
lipstick on Ann Whitley Russell s lips. The black of the sitters dress contrasts her
pale white skin and due to the incredibly dull background color more attention is
given to her. By using these colors the artist shows how although Ann Whitley
Russell is a woman of great wealth, she is a plain woman and instead of
embellishing her with vibrant colors he focused on maintaining the sitters true
essence. Additionally, while analyzing the portrait of Lady Frances Knowles the
importance of color is also used however it is to express different meanings. It is
easy to see that the artist of this piece finds color very important due to the vast
color pallet he uses in order to contrast the colors
43. Music Therapy ( Mt )
For most, music plays an integral role in life. Whether it s putting a playlist on to
get hyped up for a daily workout, or shuffling through an Adele album to get through
a bad break up. In short, music is connected to our mood. Henceforth, it should come
as no surprise that music therapy (MT) has been used in various forms of rehab,
specifically in terms of AutismSpectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a condition masked
with impairments to social functioning, speech, and language along with unusual
behaviors such as fixations and repetitive movements (Boso et al., 2007). Therapy
associated with ASD has usually been associated with speech fixation therapy or
occupational and physical activity/challenged based therapy, to name a few, however

In a study conducted by LaGasse in 2004 looked to measure the effect of music
therapy when conducted as a group to see if the social skills of children with ASD
would change, compared to a regular social skills group. The study employed
seventeen participants with an age range of 6 to 9 years old. The groups engaged
in 10 sessions, twice a week, with a schedule of a welcome exercise, followed by a
rotation of sensory and social experiences and finally ended with a farewell
exercise. The social experiences specifically looked at promoting eye contact,
communication and joint attention (LaGasse, 2014). Exercises included passing a
ball amongst the group, board games, and telling of jokes to the group. The
experience of music to half of the groups was done in a way that would be similar
to the nonmusical groups, such as music making instead of play a game or using
music to help complete a social interaction (LaGasse, 2014). Results found that
specifically after finishing all ten sessions, parents of children who received music
based therapy reported large increases in not only eye contact situations, but also in
length of time. While eye gaze did increase overall, LaGasse found that it increased
among peers but decreased amongst adults, explaining it could be due to the
facilitators shifting for a more peer to peer interaction. Results from LaGasse s study
were able to show initial evidence those social skills such as joint attention and eye
contact could be
44. Cow s Milk Bad
Milk is Bad for Long Term Health Drinking milk is one of the oldest American
traditions. Commercials all over the country promote milk and dairy products as a
part of the nutritious daily diet. Calcium is the most important nutrient for humans,
and it is found in milk and dairy products. Dairy products, obviously are derived
from cows. A game changer is in place. What happens if research proves dairy
products are causing more harm than benefit? Cow s milk can cause chronic
problems that are not expected.
Humans and cows are different in so many ways. One example of this is that
humans and the domestic cat are the only mammals that continue to drink milk
after weaning ( Milk ). A mother s breast milk, which is more nutritious for humans
when compared to cows milk, is not an item that will be found on the shelves at a
grocery store. If a mother s breast milk is more fit for humans to drink, then why are
humans continuing to drink cow s milk? Also, cows have an all natural diet, for the
most part. A cow drinks water, eats hay, and sleeps on the ground on a daily basis. At
times, cows might be injected with some form of antibiotic, but pretty much live
naturally. Because milk is a natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
L Milk contains high amounts of cholesterol and saturated fats, which leads to high
blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, heart problems, and more. All of these disorders are
at alarming levels in the United States and the milk consumption is the highest in
America. See the connection? The nutrients present in cow s milk can be found in
other forms. Although these forms may not include all of the nutrients found in
milk, it is better than consuming a lot of bad nutrients in one glass of milk.
Vegetables, fish, legumes, and many other foods combined can provide the nutrients
and calcium milk does ( Mik ). P Also, if the consumption of dairy products
decreases, animal cruelty towards cows will decrease as
45. The Death Penalty Is Not A Light Sentence
In the movie The Purge, America is bombarded with crime and over populated
correctional institutions; the government has endorsed a yearly 12 hour period in
which any criminal action including homicide gets to be legitimate. The police can t
be called. Help of any kind is suspended. It is one night when society attempts to
manage itself without laws. Would you live peacefully in a society that has to change
its laws to placate anarchist, murderers, and criminals? To live behind the façade of
a safe community, counting down the days till the Purge comes again. This is not a
third world country, there are legislations, and enforcements built in order to maintain
structure.

Some of the reasons for being pro Capital Punishment include accountability,
consequences, level of crime versus the punishment, closure, and more humane
methods of execution.
There is legislation in place to maintain order and safety of the public. Without this
legislation there is a risk for anarchy, an uncivilized way of life where only the
strong survive and balance ceases to exist. Criminals should not go unpunished.
What message does that send to future offenders? If you commit a crime you
should be held accountable for your actions. Our society is structured with a
judicial system and law enforcement to apprehend and prosecute people who break
those laws. Individuals are raised with an understanding of right and wrong based
on familial culture and a parent s sense of morality. However, there is a higher code
of ethical principles based on the rights and responsibilities that are imposed by
society. As an adult we have the knowledge and foresight to understand the
ramifications of our actions. With the knowledge of morality we have an obligation
to make the correct choices or be subjected to the punishment based on those choices.
There is no excuse for murder and the consequences for taking a life should amount
to having your life taken from you. The term lex talionis (eye for an eye, Internet)

46. The Shortcomings of the Articles of Confederation
The years following the American Revolution, better known as the Critical Period,
were some of the most vulnerable moments in the extensive history of the United
States. The Critical Period is infamous for a post war recession, disorganization and
competition of states, as well as a total lack of unity about the nation. The Articles of
Confederation, ratified during the onset of this tumultuous period, added new
dimension to early Americans idea of national government. The Articles formed a
loosely united country under a highly restricted federal government. This apparent
aversion of strong central government was rooted in the former colonists fear of a
sequel to their monarchial horror that was England. Some believe that the Articles...

Five years earlier, in a letter from the Rhode Island Assembly to Congress the
assembly concluded that taxation on imported goods creates inequality between the
commercial and the agrarian societies of America (Document 1). The Rhode Island
Assembly brings up the idea that state governments were allowed to tax freely
without congressional regulation, while Congress posed to levy importation taxes
geared towards the Northern, more commercial part of America. This letter speaks to
the injustices of taxation, and taxation was the main reason for Shays s Rebellion.
Shays s Rebellion caused that unjust and disorganized means of taxation further
exemplifies the failure that was the Articles of Confederation. The final reason why
the Articles of Confederation created an ineffective government is inadequate foreign
affairs. Prior to the revolution, the thirteen colonies were not united as they did not
need to be they were all there for the purpose and betterment of Great Britain. As the
colonists won their independence, almost every state began producing a different
type of currency, untracked and unregulated by the new federal government. This
total disunity left the states in competition over exports with one another. This
competition left the country as a whole weak, and other countries perception of us the
same. In the table that compares the value of exports to Great Britain to the
population of the nation displays

Best Western a chain of hotels that was established in 1946 has recently upgraded
logos. They upgrade from a standard two dimensional logo to a spiffy three
dimensional logo. The change surprised most although the new logo isn t horrible
according to writers. The logo is very nice and neat as well as, very well thought
through. Best Westerns logo change is a perfect example of how a company s
logo, the image of the company, can affect the company. Best Westerns new logo
has a vibrant color scheme. The two colors used in the logo are white and blue. The
scheme was said to pull the company together by Best Westerns press release. The
color scheme is a good combination because the white space allows the blue to stand
out. These colors really
48. Silent Manipulation Alex Proyas’ film I, Robot
From the moment humans are born, they are shaped by the world around them
and chances are that the media plays a huge role in shaping their identity. To the
music they listen to, to fashion trends, to their beliefs, the news outlets and
television shows could be held responsible. In 2004, the media had a much greater
influence over American citizens because of the historical context of the time.
Alex Proyas film I, Robot had taken advantage of the fact that people had become
so easily influenced by the media. Set in the year 2035, a robotics company named
US Robotics has engulfed American life to the point where every household has a
robot, and citizens have become dependent on their help. Sonny, a robot
programmed with the ability to think, feel and have dreams enables a robot fearing
detective named Del Spooner to see through the lies of the corporation. Through the
use of Sonny s character development, subtle advertisement sequences, and distinct
film choices such as the context of specific scenes, Proyas is able to portray the
suppression of thought and individuality in a futuristic society told what to think and
feel through US Robotics media propaganda. Through this, Proyas is indirectly
criticizing the 2004 audience in which was being told what to think and how to feel
through the various media outlets that would report on the political campaigns
happening at the time as well as the fear of the ongoing war with Iraq. At one point,
Sonny becomes captured by the police
49. Two Scavengers In A Truck Analysis
In the poems Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes by
Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Nothings Changed By Tatamkhulu Afrika, both poets
present their feelings towards how nothing will change and how unequal our society
is through past experiences and observations. Ferlinghetti presents social inequality
through his observation of the contrast between two different classes of people in
San Francisco during 1950 s. However, Afirka s presents his idea and feeling of
racial inequality through sharp images of what he observes when he goes back to his
home in District Six, Cape Town after the Apartheid has ended and the consequences
and aftereffects. Both poets effectively contrast and respond to their feelings of social
inequality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New, upmarket, haute cuisine , working man s cafe . In stanza three and six, the
poet uses contrast to exhibit one of the many ways the whites and blacks are
different. New, upmarket, haute cuisine , working man s cafe . The poet provides
the reader an image on how differently they dine. In a way it adds to how society is
already messed up because the language the poet uses, it is obvious that the
restaurant for the whites ONLY is very sophisticated and the restaurant screams I
m rich and it is clearly shown on the tone of the language used, the poet seems as if
he is spitting the words out with a bitter sound. On the other hand, the working
man s cafe is a place where it is described as more comfortable and the tone of the
language used is more peaceful. The way the poet expresses his feelings towards
both the whites only restaurant and the working man s cafe shows that he is much
more comfortable with eating at a place he has eaten for as long as he remembers.
In a lot of ways this is what society has become in our world today because the poet
understands and knows that most people would want to eat in a more clean
restaurant rather than in a place where it is for working people. Taking this idea, the
poet creates a dimension for the reader to imagine themselves in both places and see
which one they feel more comfortable in and it shows the reader that the poet
50. Beowulf Is A Hero
Have you ever thought about what a hero means to you? To me, a hero is someone
who is courageous and who is admired for the brave accomplishments one has done.
Beowulf is the perfect example of a hero. He was brave, selfless, and humble. My
grandfather is also a good example of a hero, because he too, is selfless and humble.
Beowulf is one of the bravest heroes that I ve heard of. He is also a herothat is
courageous. There was once a time when he made the decision to go to battle,
however he left many men behind. He chose to go fight alone when he had the
option to have his men help him defeat Grendel. Beowulf is not only courageous,
but he is a brave soul. He shows us how brave he is by striving to do whatever he
can to keep his people safe. He would do, without a doubt, anything to protect his
people, and that is one of his biggest qualities. Being brave and courageous aren t
Beowulf s only qualities. He is selfless. When Hrothgar dies, he leaves all his good
to Beowulf. When he has these goods in his possession, he holds on to them until
he dies. When Beowulf eventually passes, he shows his selflessness by giving all
the money and treasure to his people. He did this because he wanted to die
knowing he helped his people. Beowulf is a humble man. He shows us how
humble he is when he goes to fight Grendel. When Beowulf decides to go to battle
with Grendel, he chooses to fight him alone. He wants to fight him man to man,
with an even battle. He fights Grendel with nothing but himself. He doesn t have his
armor, a sword, or even anything at all to fight against him with. Beowulf was the
type of man that was okay with dying knowing he would still be famous. He chose
to put his life into the hands of Godso if the God s thought it was his time to pass,
that was his time, and he was okay with that. Beowulf isn t the only hero out there.
Some people have their own heroes they look up to. For myself, my hero is my
Grandfather. His name is Kent Lewis, however I call him Pawpaw. He is a well
known man for both good and bad. Today he is known for the great man he has
become throughout the years. He is a man that strives to be a better man than he was
yesterday. My grandfather, like Beowulf, is selfless.
51. The Searchers By John Ford
John Ford s 1956 film, The Searchers, is a classic Western tale set in the staked
plains, post Civil War era. Like most of John Ford s Western films, The Searchers
is also filmed in Monument Valley, Arizona/Utah. John Ford first introduces Ethan
Edwards (John Wayne) returning on horseback to his brother, Aaron Edwards s
(Walter Coy) house three years after the Civil War. Ethan is introduced to Martin
Pawley (Jeffery Hunter), the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. The film
moves forward when Rev. Captain Clayton (Ward Bond) volunteers Ethan, Marty,
and a group of men to search for the Jorgensen s missing cattle. The search turns its
tracks when the men realize that the Edwards family have been killed by the
Comanche Indians, and Debbie (Natalie Wood) and Lucy (Pippa Scott) are taken by
Scar. Although Ethan is the anti hero, him and Marty are the protagonists of The
Searchers. Both Ethan and Marty s lives are flipped upside down and are now on a
journey to save Debbie and Lucy. The antagonist, Scar, is possibly considered Ethan
s alter ego because they share several similarities. Throughout the film, Ethan and
Marty face many challenges accepting their background and issues. The overall
meaning of the film is to let go of the past and accept what the future has to offer;
John Fords use of paradigm, style, and themes drives the overall meaning throughout
the film.
Notably, John Ford s paradigm moves the overall meaning of the film by the structure
of the events which take
52. Analysis Of Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson
Sometimes, problems can just stare at the one who s having them. Given all of the
possible solutions, the problems will stare hard until it hurts, maybe even to the
point where one could become a totally different person. In the novel Speak, author
Laurie Halse Anderson gives a quick snap into this crucial reality by moving into
main character Melinda s perspective. Anderson uses an inanimate object as a way
to represent problems that just won t look away. Anderson tells a whole story
through one object; a mirror. Melinda refuses to look into her own reflection after
the incident at the party, she is always hiding or covering her mirrors. Hiding her
reflection symbolizes Melinda hiding her problems. Looking into the mirror, she
stares right at her flaws, bringing her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the cleanup of her closet, Melinda straightforwardly narrates, [The mirror]
is screwed to the wall, so I cover it with a Maya Angelou poster that the librarian
gave me (Anderson 50). She covered the mirror with a picture of Maya Angelou,
who went through the same thing as Melinda at age seven. She covered the mirror
with that poster because she doesn t want to see herself, nor be herself. She wants
to be someone like Maya, therefore covering the mirror with her face to see her
instead of herself. Considering the fact that Melinda covers the mirror, it is obvious
she does not want to face her problems head on in the one place she actually feels
safe. If she left the mirror untouched, she would have had to constantly look into the
mirror, which ends up looking into her worries, fears, and mishaps. After progressing
throughout the year, Melinda takes
53. Colombia s Failure To Build A Panama Canal
In 1901, the US negotiated with Britain to construct a canal in Nicaragua or
Panama, in order to make the voyage between Atlantic and Pacific Oceans much
smoother. Although the negotiations were successful and plans to build this canal
through Panama were permitted by the Senate, Colombia owned the land, and was
unwilling to give it away so easily. Only after the US lent aid to a Panamanian
Revolution, much to Colombia s dismay, did Colombia finally accept the terms of
agreement with the Hay Bunau Varilla Treaty in 1903. This gave the US control
over the canal for $10 million along with an annual payment of $250,000. The canal
was finally complete in 1914, and produced beneficial results, such as shortening the

Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive look at the following faiths: Buddhism,
Judaism, Baha i, and Christianity. The reader will find that Buddhism is more of a
philosophy than a religion that focuses on the mind as being the creator of illness and
health. The reader will also find that Judaism, Baha i, and Christianity are all
religions that believe in one God, the creator of all. This paper lists various
components that each of these faiths may use at one time or another to effect healing
including prayer, meditation, chanting, the use of healers, etc. This paper also defines
what is important to people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1). Judaism focuses more on actions than on beliefs. In Judaism, health equals
wholeness. Mind, body, and spirit are all interrelated. Physical illness is believed
to have spiritual and psychological effects while spiritual or emotional suffering
manifests as physiological symptoms (James, M., 2009). Illness is viewed by
Judaism as a part of life and can strike anyone at any time. Jewish law requires that
healing be actively sought and there is a rabbinic dictum that says you should get
the best medical care wherever you can (James, M., 2009, p. 2). Healing is
accomplished through appropriate medical care but also through prayer, reciting
of psalms, and visitation. The Misheberach, is a prayer for healing. It asks for
healing of the spirit and healing of the body for all who are ill. This prayer is recited
during the Torah service but also at an ill person s bedside. Prayers and the reciting
of psalms are not seen as asking for a cure. Instead they are expressions of hope for
whatever form healing may take (James, M., 2009, p. 2). Visitation in the Jewish
tradition is called bikur cholim, in Hebrew. It is a religious obligation or mitzvah.
The Jewish community is supposed to comfort and care for the sick and those who
do this are considered messengers of God. When we visit the sick, we take away a
small piece of their illness (James, M., 2009, p. 3).
